As an idea for a holy symbol, perhaps he has the only book that survived the burning of the library chained to his belt/armour. You could say that the book is the object that his vows are bound to, it will incinerate upon breaking his vows and when it says he uses his holy symbol for "turn the unholy" or other abilities that involve presenting your symbol, he holds it open in front of him and an incantation appears on the paper? (Also he writes notes in the book, alluding to your choice in "flaws")
Man, I sat down for this video with a straight face, all serious about learning how to build a paladin character. Then you named him Yorek. Yorek. It has a similar pronunciation as "yarak" word in Turkish, which is a slang word for penis. Now I cannot watch this video without cracking up!
Brandon, most of the skills just follow the +2, +3, etc from your ability scores. The ability you use is listed after the name of the skill. IE Acrobatics is your Dex modifier. The exception are those skills you choose to have proficiency based on your background, race, and sometimes class. Those skills get an additional +2 (your proficiency bonus).
Brandon Reyes The ability score modifier chart is on pg 13 but Chapter 7 covers most of it. A lot of these character creation videos cover it well. Another good video series is by Dawnforgedcast--just search "How to create a ....(class).
Chris Drews Once you pick your class, race, and background note which skills you are given or choose by placing a check next to those. Those skills will get an additional +2 proficiency bonus but otherwise you just get the +0, +1, +2 or whatever you rolled up from that chart on pg 13. Nate zipped through them too fast in this video lol.
I made a dex based dual wield Paladin. His higher stats are Dex, Wis & Charisma, uses light martial weapons so I can substitute my Dex mod. He has ridiculous AC and a lot of support through class abilities & spells.
I'm just learning D&D and jumping right into the DM role. My son created a dragonborn paladin, and i was hoping you would show how to level it to lv3. Do you have a video on that? The spells and spell slots are a bit overwhelming for newbies. THANKS NATE!
I have a question that I've been having a lot of trouble finding the answer(s) for. My and my friends just bought D&D and none of us had any prior knowledge of it when we started, so we're essentially teaching ourselves how to play the game. It took hours and a tremendous amount of reading and watching your videos has helped so much so thank you for that. I feel that we were able to fill out most of the Character Sheet, but we don't know how to fill out the Skills section. Can you help us with that? It would be greatly appreciated
Even as a DM, I find it hard sometimes to define Passive Wisdom check. The way I explain is, the higher the number less likely you have roll for the obvious. 10 is base. So, as a DM I have a npc evil aura at a 12, you would have to roll to see if you detect. But if it is a 10, then you auto detect it. Let me know if i am far off.
Neal Doane That certainly is one way to do it. It's really just a matter of choice if a DM wants to make it active or passive. I sometimes get tired of players saying "I want to make a perception check" all the time so I just get in the habit of having my players passive wisdom handy and then I can just tell them "you and you notice a rustling in the bushes to the south" or whatever. Once in a while if a player initiates something by saying "do I see any sign of danger ahead?" I'll have them roll a check. But I often make it passive and tell certain players if they notice anything. It can also speed things up. If I have a monster trying to sneak up on them, I'll roll stealth for the monster and the monster must beat my players' passive perception. If it doesn't I tell the player(s) what they notice. It's really just a matter of preference when to have them roll.
+WASD20 bummer! maybe bring him back sometime? I'm really enjoying your roleplaying in the provokers series, and I imagine you'd do a great job playing this paladin as well!
I would like to see you lvl this character up to lvl 4 I am getting back into d&d after many years and my dm wants me to create a lvl 4 character the group needs a paladin so i chose that but am kind confused on how to fill out to lvl 4. ( HELP )...LOL
+Pancho A. -- In terms of printing, you can try to get your settings up to highest quality in the printer dialog, but some printers are just better than others. Might be time to upgrade!
Hey, so I don't know if you remember me, but I posted a question on your dragonborn rouge creation vid. Now Iv'e finally decided to be a human Paladin. Iv'e been looking through the book(on my computer) and I cant find anything on paladins and stuff. And I don't have any merchandise, and I probably wont any time soon. A hangout/skype call would be great. lol
+TrinityIce -- Anyone wanna help out with a hangout? I'm not able to do that, unfortunately. I'd recommend sticking to the classes/races that are in the free basic rules PDF until you are ready to buy a PHB. Actually, the 5E system reference might have enough info for you: Paladin is on p. 30. media.wizards.com/2016/downloads/SRD-OGL_V1.1.pdf Good luck!
Shane Muse I'd recommend trying the RPG one shot group on facebook. Or check with game/comic/hobby shops in your area if you have any. Roll20 is another online community that might give you some options. Good luck!
Shane Muse Another way to find groups is to check out MeetUp.com and see if there is a RolePlayers group in your city. That's how I found my first group and they've been great in guiding me through the game.
In 5e a Paladin can be any alignment. They are simply someone who has taken some kind of oath. They are often very devout, but not necessarily to a lawful good deity. Times have changed! :)

Ooh. That's awesome! I love it!
WASD20 Glad to help!
Wow Nate what a super unique paladin idea. I love it.

Yorek.

Lol
Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him, Horatio. A fellow of infinite jest...
It does kinda sound like "Your dick" when said really fast, so I think it's kinda universal!
Actually, I think you have to use Strength when you throw a javelin.
Jens Heika Simonsen Good catch! Right you are. I thought javelins had the ability ti use STR or DEX, but they don't. STR only.
WASD20 It pays off to read and re-read the Player's Handbook.

Chris Drews Guilty! :D Thanks for helping Brandon out, Chris.
How do you roll for random encounters when there's 100 and how does expertise work
Liked just because the name of this channel. Creative :]
Really cool character, I hope we get to play together
About 6:00, the ability for a bard is CHA as well. I'm planning to play a half-elf bard in an upcoming campaign (urban fantasy setting)

I don’t! I should really make one.
Thanks for the video man!

So, it's been 7 years but uhh...you still need help figuring out those skills?
@@Riflery Don't think they need the help anymore 💀

Thanks a lot for this, very informative
Oh hey, I go in the same order. :)
have you used this charachter in any gameplay?? is there video of it?? I'm super interested in seeing him in game!
+Tyrel Mosley -- I used him in gameplay just once, and while it was recorded by a friend I don't think it will ever see the light of day. Sorry!
+WASD20 bummer! maybe bring him back sometime? I'm really enjoying your roleplaying in the provokers series, and I imagine you'd do a great job playing this paladin as well!
I don't understand the adding of 2 at each characteristics. (From the 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 default to the 17,16, 15, 14, 12 , 10 you have)
OMG thank you so so much! this is a huge help to me +Subcriber
Cool. Thanks!

im new, what is armor class? and how to use it?
Where did you get the numbers for the skills?
Noob question. Do you automatically get class features or do they take feats?
+Jinx Jade You automatically get class features. Feats are separate.
WASD20 Thanks
Do you think you could make an aasimar character?
Probably not. Won't be doing any more character creation vids anytime soon.
Where did you get such a crisp image? Mine always print out fuzzy.
+Pancho A. -- In terms of printing, you can try to get your settings up to highest quality in the printer dialog, but some printers are just better than others. Might be time to upgrade!
Just turns out it was my mistake. I wasn't printing em off the pdf on widards.com, I was using google images.
question: wtf is a copper jackal
But if the paladin is proficient in all amour wouldn’t the AC be 18/20 or am I just being stupid
You don’t add proficiency to armor class. Being proficient with a certain type of armor just means you can wear it without penalty.

I’m making my character a paladin, and they used to be in a cult based off of Scientology

paladin neutral? that's nothing more than a fighter then

Standard array sucks. I am sorry but it does.
Why is your character so broken wtf
