First one is clearly the pre 64, so many indicators, the most obvious being the longer forearm. (The shorter forearm started in 1952). Even without the serial number you can tell it was made in 1950. One year earlier and it would say 30WCF instead of 30-30. One year later and the receiver would be drilled and tapped for a peep site. Both beautiful guns, but I’ll take the pre 64 any day.
@@dadbodoperator2466 I spend a lot of time with old Winchesters. (Mostly the 94). They made many subtle changes over the years, more than most people realize.
The first one (pre-64) has its carrier screw at 5:00 compared to the loading gate screw. Post 64's have a carrier pin and it's in the 6:00 position.
I have a 1964. Finish is rough, but function has always been 100%.

That's awesome! My wife has an 1894 from 1970, so we're lever gun fans.

Post 64 serials started at 2700000. The screws, butt plate, and 17xxxxx serial gave it away. Gorgeous.
A man that knows his guns.
Love my levers. I wouldn't hate owning either. You have an amazing collection.
