The girls are just not delivering these classics anymore 😢
Hingis has the graceful hands i have ever seen. She could adjust the racket like feather duster. Hats off for her talent😊😊
The greatest comeback, god i miss Jennifer on tour
Most painful match for Martina ever after RG 99
Yes, but Martina is still one of the all time Greats...Jennifer had nerves of steel.
Great Theatre..
J C Last Slam Win & Last Time in A Slam Final..
Martina Last Time in A Singles - Slam Final..
First Retirement February 3rd - 20002..
Second Retirement From Singles 2007..
The match was amazing, I remember watched this match live on TV.
During that time i never expect this match become last grand slam final for both.
amazing comeback from Jennifer! I really thought Martina was going to take the title!
And I miss Steffi 😭
Comeback? Crowd was supporting her beyond her talent. Capriati was favorite for Aussies and I witnessed it.
Jennifer had a tremendous career. 3 slam finals and 1 olympic final, winning all 4 over Hingis, Clijsters, and Graf. Spent some time as number one as well. She hit the ball so solidly and cleanly. Never afraid to play anyone anywhere...as evidenced by her heated H2H with Serena. They had some clashes....as did Jennifer and Monica. Legend.
JenCap won only 14 titles in her career.
She profited in the early 00s from the weak competition on slower surfaces (Graf gone, Sanchez over the hill, Hingis mentally destroyed after FO 99, Henin not yet there).
@@carrerau7138 You make yourself look foolish as usual. You don't do your research and tell lies.
The top 10 at the time of this match:
1 Capriati
2 Davenport
3 Venus Williams
4 Hingis
5 Clijisters
6 Serena Williams
7 Henin
8 Maursemo
9 Dokic
10 Seles
Nine of the top ten were former or future number one players. Weak competition? LMAO. You're uneducated and still bitter because Jen embarrassed Graf badly at the Olympics, denying her an historic second gold. Stop making every conversation about Graf. She is not the center of the universe. Jen is not the most accomplished of course, but she grabbed the opportunities when they presented themselves and was a tremendous competitor. She won every one of the matches that counted the most in her career, and over some legitimate competition. Get a life.
@@jm7804 Hingis mentally done, Graf and (prime) Sanchez gone, Henin still maturing, Serena not yet Superserena, Seles a walking wreck, Venus and Davenport fast court specialists.
A window of opportunity for Jenny. Kudos that she took it.
@@carrerau7138 You further embarrass yourself. Your lack of tennis IQ is staggering, as is your habitual lying.
@@carrerau7138 Monica beat up Steffi pretty good. Poor Steffi. 😆
I was at this match and it was so so so hot by the end. Had to be over 115 on the court
Peak of summer ,ofc. PM J. Howard was there on this day to watch the match.
Or 40 degrees, as we say in the 21st century
So many bad calls against Martina...I wish Hawkeye was implemented back then.
What a match! Jennifer Capriati - "courage under fire"
Chanda Rubin vs Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario 1996 QF please👏
This belonged to Martina. She deserved to have another title...She was a superior player overall.
Mentaly she was not superior to Jennifer, and that is what played the major role here i think.
she had weak serve and forehand
Uh.. Jennifer won.
Yeah Martina should have won this like 6-2 6-0. She was up 5-1 in the 1st, and 4-0 in the 2nd. Just didn't have the confidence, or belief, it seemed, to close it out. Heartbreaking match. Good win for Jen. Her past wins over Hingis psychologically won this one for her.
@@THEmortal_jason I feel you. I remembered watching this as a kid and crying 😭
Jennifer Capriati, if you knew her story, did all she could to overcome her difficult years and time away from the game of Tennis. She is an inspiration, a fighter and an overall champion. Tennis will not be the same without her, and it was a pleasure to support Jen, when she played and when she took time away to sort herself out.
Except for that one terrible line call against Serena at the 2004 US Open, which Capriati acknowledged later. No respect for a player that has a win-at-all-cost attitude at the expense of good sportsmanship. Similar to Henin's hand incident against Serena at the FO. At least the Capriati match ushered in the age of line call reviews in the form of the challenge system.
Remember watching this live. Great match from 2 great players! Glad that Jenni had the success she did when he came back, and Martina will be remembered as one of the greatest naturals ever.
Martina is the best.
Classic, it's too bad the women's game, don't play like this anymore, or they quit, the heat is real and the exhaustion is real and these are true champions
i love JC that girls forehand and never quit attitude rocks miss watching her
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ loved them both
I love Martina HIngis so much she is so charismatic and pure beautiness and she was so close to the title.....it was so hart to watch her suffer because of the heat .....Martina deserved this title
This is my second-favorite Hingis match.
Glad that Chucky is gone.
@@carrerau7138 Whats wrong with you? Always so hateful against this beautiful woman?
@@derhinko2359 Hingis has a nasty character. A black soul. Period.
@@carrerau7138 yours doesn't seem to be good.
@@marekhoyahoja6547 Are you a Putin fan?
Hingis needed to be in better shape. She lost a lot of big matches because she ran out of gas. This one, the 99 French, the 2000 US Open SF against Venus. Her game relied on a lot of precision and she needed to in position to execute her brilliant shots -- not at all unlike her namesake, Martina Navratilova. But unlike the other Martina, she didn't put in the off court work to do that.
The 1999 French broke Martina Hingis mentally. It was truly astonishing to witness.
I only agree in slams. Look at her records in 1999-2000.
@@fabriceborioli4032 Shorter tournaments. Fewer matches.
@@fabriceborioli4032true but that’s what the history books remember. As of now, both Pliskova and Swiatek won 16 career titles. I don’t think there’s even a debate on who’s the best of the two ^^
@@tshifhiwaramatswana6862sad but true.
Hingis choked. Plain and simple. It had been a while since she’d won a major. She had lost the last three GS finals she had been in.
the chair umpire should have overuled the line judge. martina didn t make foot faults
Aussie crowd was tilted towards JC like cyclops.
Jennifer Capriati was indeed the queen of tennis in 2002.
2001. Serena won 3 slams after this in 2002.
1:16:14 is this Mr Carson?
Carson?
And they draw in the fans, it obvious ..
I could never STAND Hingis. So happy Jennifer pulled this one out. When Hingis was winning a match she always acted all cocky and as soon as she started losing there was NO FIGHT or drive in her game. No grit, no determination, just a head case that acted like she didn't care which is a "LOSER'S LIMP". She was arrogant and I just couldn't stand the way she carried herself or acted and there are VERY FEW women's players that I have ever felt that way about.
Okay, Martina you always thought winning by ugly could be the way, but you failed! You never ever left your heart on the court like the true champions did, so in this match, even if you got all the opportunities! Players like Jennifer, Steffi and Monica and a few more went a different way and that will remain! The heart was the key, not the arrogance! Congratulations Jennifer Capriati!
Martinas passion was always tennis and she played this with her full heart and with her brain.....she was so smart her weakness was that she hasnt got the power than other girls like Capriati or the Williams sisters
Passion, I agree and it might be like that. Truly. But not for the right circumstances! Heart, never! Just look at the RG final against Steffi! She thought to can get over decisions of the chair umpire, played services from underneath. Went to the opponent side, got up to umpire stule, left the court after losing? What kind of heart is this? Never heard of true champion the same! Sorry , she just smuggled through!
OH MY GOSH....somebody else that saw EXACTLY WHAT I SAW about HIngis!! YES!! PERFECTLY STATED. As soon as she started losing a match she always acted like she didn't care. No heart, no drive no grit or fight, just a LOSER! I couldn't have written a better commentary! PERFECT!
Thanks dear, never got a response like yours. And it's still true. 😊
Hingis spoiled
