I'm back after 18 years. In fact, when I saw the video, I felt like I was going back in time. Here, Maria had won her first Grand Slam at just 17 years old. An incredible talent. Serena was then 23 years old. 6 years the difference was between the two then. I miss seeing Maria on the field playing. She will always be in the history of tennis!

Hingis won it at 16, in 1997, and was world number 1 at 16 too. Women don't generally grow much more physically after age 16-18. So a woman can sometimes be the same height and strength at age 16-18 as she is at age 26.

For 11 years in a row, Maria Yuryevna Sharapova was the highest paid female-athlete in the world. It is estimated that she garnered a gross income of $285M dollars since her tennis career began in 2001. Her wealth comes not only from tennis, but also from various brand endorsements and additional business ventures. She is married to a handsome guy and has a son, Theodore. I think 20 years of tennis is more than enough for any woman to have to endure before she retires and is welcomed into the loving arms of her family and friends. I mean, really??

I have followed Sharapova since this match until her retirement. Her game changed so much, some parts of it got worse with time unfortunately, like her serve so much better in this match she seems to be quicker between serves, the wind doesn’t bother her serve, her movement seems better. Not being the best mover, the most agile, the most athletic and not having the most wee rounded game didn’t stop her from doing really well. It is a pity the ending of her career was somewhat overshadowed.

People love to slate Serena but she always looks so happy for her opponents when they beat her in Slam finals. Obviously she's hurt and disappointed... but she puts it to one side and celebrates the other players achievement. That is true class.

Andrew Mark I agree she handled this defeat with class I was sad she didn't win Wimbledon as she is my favourite player but I reckon she looked smoking hot with some of her outfits that she wore on the court in 2004 I had a massive crush on Serena back than.😍😍
