I love this exercise you've taken the time to share with us. It's such a refreshing take on UA-cam photographers. I especially like your "reasoning out loud" on your thinking and process...love your stuff, Omar! Thank you so much! BTW, gotta love using an older DSLR.
Just purchased 5dMark ii. My first full frame. So excited, can’t wait to get it
Omar, I love your walks around New York. Have never been there myself - but feel that I can feel the city when I follow your story and your photos. I know I'll be coming to NYC one day - but until then thank you so much for your 'being a tourist in NYC' 🙏
Thanks so much!!
Great video, loved the format and the feel of it, brilliant Omar !
Great vid Omar. I enjoy hearing your thought process with the photos ❤️
Great video and images Omar. Really great point about using specific cameras that slow you down for more considered and purposeful composition.
I definitely enjoy the more abstract and intricate shots in this video! Cool to see your style evolving!
Really liked the slices of New York shots with the 135 and that first photo with the umbrellas! Excited to see what else you come up with.
Thanks this is is great. I watch all your videos and they are always informative and entertaining, but it's quite special to hear frank comments about what you shot, why you shot it, and what worked / didn't work in each case. I walk around my own city, Cape Town, shooting similar 'slice of life' scenes and I often wonder what it is about a scene that attracts me and what makes the resulting photo successful or not, so I found your comments on your own process and photos just really cool. Thanks for the weekly education and inspiration!
Thanks appreciate it!!!! Slice of life’s the way to go
Great video, appreciate you putting this together! I recently picked up a 5D Mk II to use with my canon lens that I've only been using on my Fuji X-H1 body with adapter.
Never owned a full frame canon body, so should be fun to see what this body can do to help extend my photography capabilities!
Some really good photos.. My favourites is the old couple and the man and the gorilla 😅 and I also love the b&w ot the park at 3.20, very tranquil scene 😊
Such a cool video with which to start my day! Inspirational to be sure!
Inspiring video! Pete Souza too loves using 35/135mm lens combo.
Wonderful pics and great explanations/ stories - thanks a lot for that!
great edutainment!
Omar, I admire your work and enjoy it immensely. You are a good and funny story teller. keep up you good work.
I love your concept of taking a “slice” of a scene. I’m going to try that next time I’m out and about.
Sorry. It’s copyright OG. 🤨
Just got my 5d mark 2. Can’t believe how much I love the old machinery great video!
Nice one Omar. Everyone can relate to individual aspects of everything you spoke about in this vid. For me it was when you said "I've gotta go... someone's coming" 🤔😄 its a testament to how self conscious we can be when out with our cameras.
Great images... as always.
Cheers 🍻🥂 🍻
Haha. Big group of people
The 5D2 is a great camera. Loved it!
Great video Omar. Nice pictures and story telling. I still have my 5dmkiii since it came out. Its a dinosaur now. It was in the shelf since i bought the eos r 3 yrs ago. But a few months ago i grabbed it again and in still loving the simplicity of an old gear. Keep up the good work
Fantastic.... loved the shot with the kids and the fog shot. What a great city to photograph in ...
Love the idea of slices and painting ideas. A 135mm in the city. Great stuff . Thanks again for being out there.
Very fun watch, Omar.
Looking at your shots reminded me that I haven't had my 135mm on my FF Nikon in a while, been on a wide angle kick. That selective framing and compression in nice.
Super. Wow the "filmic" quality, maybe I just forgot what the color and texture of NYC is. But, yes, I clicked because I had the 5D mkII. So this was a special pleasure watching through your lens, thanks. Really liked the vlog and the things you said about your feelings per image. Here again, I title all my images, as I see the gist of my process to finished image has become a tale. I'm more the artsy photo taker, and understood your images look very painterly, or at least I get it, the steps back you've taken to create a scene. Wonderful video, thanks.........
Thanks so much!! Titles 🤔 hmmmm
Love it dude and in tune with your photos, observations and vibe. Totally get the feeling having lived in London and always wanting to avoid the tourist zombies! :) Weirdly, I subscribed on the back of researching monitors, enjoying your shtick! Saw this as I wanna switch things up and have so much vintage EF adapted glass I wanna get 5D DSLR to slow down and enjoy... peace bro!
You got some great shots i Omar. I enjoyed the video a lot.
Great shots !!! Makes me want to go back to NYC :) :) THANKYOU
I'm picking up one of these because the price is so good! Your video was my final push to get one, I love your channel :)
Very peacefull video, kinda contrasting with the description of the town you made ^^
I think the mk II is very good to render this kind of photography, without over editing the files in post (indeed you have to take time to setup your shots), which you are mastering here !
That was wonderful - thank you.
Nice shots, my friend
Only been to NY once in December and Bryant park was an ice skating rink. Fabulous place. Stop and eat there, lots of people gathered around (pre-COVID days).
I was only in NY 2 weeks (I live in Australia) so obviously I don't know NY but when people ask what's good about NY my answer is NY. It's just the whole thing, the whole place, the vibe..... amazing place; at least for a tourist. I keep my DSLR for the whole optical viewfinder experience as well; alongside my mirrorless camera with it's EVF. They're both great, just different. Love them both.
Great photography BTW Omar, as always.
I need to get to Australia one day
Seeing your photos from this trip I'm seeing the use of the 60-30-10 color rule and even a 70-30 split color use.
I recently watched a video explaining the use of this in cinematography and set production.
The psychology behind it is really interesting and you may or may not be aware of it.
Loving your updated style making for engaging imagery that tells a story in a single scene.
hey can you link the video? :D
@@gameongtx sure, it's this one...
ua-cam.com/video/CYRyaY-9F_g/v-deo.html
The 135L was my absolute favorite Canon lens!!!
I love you disclose the mm/iso/f/ss
Saul Leiter - no slouch - often used long lenses for his street photography
Excellent - you did well handheld with the 135/35 combo on the Mark II. And great narration.
That picture with window mannequins and the Amazon guy reflects perfectly the whole essence of our consumer society. Perfectly nice picture of the form, but when you peel off that nice looking surface, you get the picture which is not so pleasant. Street photography that brings a message. Perfectly done!
Love these photos! The mark2 is still a special camera, there’s something about the color and contrast
as a lifelong neh yawker, thank you for the effort and sharing. i was at B&H last week, and I made several pix (MSG), that look a whole lot like yours! i am an appreciative subscriber. thumbs up.
Omar... you're my favorite youtuber!!! Thank you for all you do... If you haven't tried a 5D mk1, you really should. With so much emphasis on megapixels these days, it produces amazing photos, and at only 12 Megs. The pics are arguably better than the mk2. But most importantly the photos are a joy to look at. Have a great weekend!
Edit... I should have said favorite photographer/youtuber because you're fantastic at both... And I should've prefaced with that I own a 5D mk2, too. Both great. I'll have to get my feet wet with a Nikon someday.
I have the Nikon D700! 12mp too!
please don't raise prices for Mark 1)
I love the 5D mkll: very similar colours to the RP IMO.
I converted mine with a custom split screen for manual focussing and I shoot old Olympus and Mamiya lenses.
Nice video !!! Really enjoyed it !!! Thanks !!!
At 0:44 you had just been passing my workplace. I would have said hello if I saw you and invited you in to our Edward Munch Photo exhibit.
Love hearing your thoughts about the story behind each shot. I wish I was brave enough to do that with mine. Maybe someday :)
Excellent shots! I'm still at that stage where half my decent shots are cropped to really make the composition shine through. I want to get to a point where most of my final compositions are made in camera, rather than realised later on.
Well the photo with the delivery guy and the mannequin 👌best shot of the day
Best thing about the 5D Mark II, is swapping in the manual focus screen and shooting with manual lenses. I use my 5Dii mostly with my Voigtlander 40/2 SLIIs or Contax CY lenses. The camera is much better balanced as opposed to adapting nose heavy mirrorless cameras.
I really enjoy my 6D for all the reasons you appreciate your 5D Mk2, although I specifically went for the 6 over that 5.
I’m wanting the 40mm pancake next, and probably the old 100mm; 135 as a focal length was always a little too odd for me.
I recently got an excellent condition super low shutter count 5DmkII for $220. I'm loving the feel and images that come out of it. That big comfy Canon experience!
Great thing to share such a brilliant thought…appreciated. I love my Nikon DSLR and i do not want to leave it for any reason. Is it that much difficult to understand the correct exposure on a DSLR, while taking photos? Is it a big deal? I used a Nikon z and canon r6 but still i recommend a DSLR for photography. Important thing is framing and composition.Type of view finder and display are secondary. Sensor capacity is big deal I believe.
i love your videos Omar! Been watching you for months now. Would be awesome if you could also review like old professional cameras that can still rock today. Like the canon 5d classic or the canon 1d, 1ds, 5ds serieses. please!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
I did just that a few days ago :) I went for an extensive two-day shoot and even though I had my Z fc with an 18-400mm, I ended up doing the entire shoot with my D800E and a 20mm 1.8 prime. The autofocus made me pull my hair at times and I found myself on several occasions manually focusing to get the shot as many shots were in low light. The challenge of composing with a fixed and wide field of view added to the enjoinment of the experience. My 5D MKII is on hiatus for now as I sold all of my Canon glass when I decided to make Nikon my system of choice back in 2020; however, it still holds a special place in my heart as the first full frame prosumer DSLR ever and I learned shooting manual and honing my photography skills with it back in 2011. There are many shots that I hold dear from this body and my first wedding shoot ever was using the 5D MKII. The only reason I don't shoot with it anymore is the high ISO noise and the comparatively low dynamic range, other than that, the body is fantastic even to this day and if you install a Magic Lantern CFW the jump in video capabilities is jaw-dropping!
I’m enjoying your video. I am considering purchasing the 5DmII and want to do street photography so I wanted to see if it was good for that. Anyway, I loved a lot of your shots but really liked the pizza shop with the bikes in front and the person eating inside. And the shot of people eating lunch or just sitting outside of GCS the balding guy in the pic looks like George Castanza, very NYC! 😀
It's amazing. The only thing is the AF sometimes misses more shots than the modern cameras. But the images are beautiful.
Wonderful pictures. I will be in nyc in this year. Hopefully it works.
The photo of nuns just brilliant!
5:39. Check the Nike swoosh, the smile on the box and dat swooshing thing on the back of the jacket 😊
The windows photo at 8:05 in b&w is very nice 👌
the whole thing of slowing you down is actually what I've been doing with my own gere the last few weeks. I got myself the very first X100 from 2011, a camera that is old, slow, but somehow has wonderful colors.
I'm usually using an X-T2 as my main camera setup, but by getting a few film simulation recipes, disabling the rear screen, and shooting JPEG only through the OVF, this has been a wonderful and fulfilling experience for sure.
If you haven't triend one of those cameras, they are kinda cheap and they are what gets the closest to "digital film photography" if that makes any sense, both in look and user experience. I don't what the special sauce about that sensor, but damn are the images coming out of it nice
Look at what you have done now ....your making me miss my 5DM2 ....LOL
Very Cool...fun to watch
That was fun!
humble man!
What a great photo walk. Maybe one day we will run into each other! Bronx here!!!
This is very Amazing
I just got the canon 135 this week from mpb and unfortunately I don’t think the manual focus works ☹️. Gosh now I want a big old 5D., and those cool looking board games! Lol. Really cool shots of NY.
So. I have been looking at the 5D II for years. I've always wanted one of these DLSR's. This video did it for me. So yesterday I purchased from a fantastic Facebooker (is that a real thing?) a beautifully looked after body and today I grabbed my favourite focal length...50mm. Very happy.
I love it. Enjoy!!
Great again! What do you like more: Nikon D700 or Canon 5 D 2?
Thanks
Karl
Hey Omar!! Thank you so much for your info and your spirit. I've been hooked on your channel for the last month as I'm upgrading and starting to shoot more professionally. I recently got the Fuji Xt3 which I just returned to B&H with some autofocus issues... and not I'm diving even more into my research and reconsidering. I'm a 100 lb woman with small hands!! You have gotten me interested in the Nikon Z6 ii and while I can't get anywhere soon to actually handle the camera I am considering going for it. I am curious if you or anyone here has any advice or recommendations for a smaller person with smaller hands in terms of the larger more capable setups. I may just have to make it work for me.... Thanks so much! Colleen
BW with full contrast straight from 5d mkii is amazing no need to process after with raw you will jave colour version anyway
Love the 5dmk2, the image it produces is absolutely lovely, but I find it too heavy for everyday street photography. I prefer to use an original 6D on the street, but will take the 5dmk2 out for a spin after watching this. I like the way you are relaxed about your street photography. THAT to me, is what street should be about!… 🙏🏿
Hey! I have watched a couple of your videos and first of all I just want to say that I am really enjoying them, made me laugh a couple of times and I had a pretty rough time lately so thanks a lot! You are so genuine and relaxed and I just enjoy it a lot.
I also have a question, I have just started shooting again and I'm trying out different cameras. Most of the are a couple of years old. I have been trying Sony Nex 5, canon g9x mark ii, canon g12 and Lumix lx5. One thing that annoys me a bit is when I am shooting in low light, now to the question. Could you mention maybe 1 or 2 cameras that are good in low light? Im thinking about selling 1 or 2 cameras and buy a good camera that is also decent in low light but its like a jungle out there so its so hard just to "pick" one.
Sorry for the long message:)
Hey there, I was waiting for your video, I didn’t know about this park, Hopefully I get to see it ,did you take any pictures with the Nikon Z6ii?
My first full frame camera. It has sentimental value and can't bring myself to sell it.
Appears to be alot of love for the 5dmxx series from canon......looking into a 5dsr have you used it?
I’d love to meet up if you find yourself out wandering in the city again soon. I’ve been out more and more as it’s getting warmer.
good images
Good stuff. Would be kind of cool to go out with a modern and a 15+ year old camera and shoot the same scenes side by side to see what the difference really is.
Great video. To bad I gave away my DSLR. Would be fun to try it out after a few years with only mirrorless.
Isn't 5Dii a darn huge camera for NYC tourist these day?? 😮😮😌
But you got so many great photos w it 👍😁
This is a fantastic exercise.
Recently i pick up this camera. After years with mirrorless to grab picture with dslr something that bother me the most is focus accuracy. With fix lens, i can calibrate with the body, but with zoom lens i cant calibrate every focal range. And end up use live view most. Maybe i need to purchase lens from sigma or tamron with dock, before eyeing mirrorless again.
Man, you brought out the "big boy," the DSLR!
So fun.
Genial, no pude verlo tranquilo, por qué estoy muy ocupado, pero me gustó mucho.
Glad you didn’t get robbed.
Man if there were any Canon I'd buy it'd be the 5D Mark II or D30, yes the 3mp one. I'll never forget a girl I met back in 2006 using the original 5D. We nearly swapped cameras at her studio. I had and still use a Nikon D200 but something about her images in studio I was amazed by. Fast forward years later and many cameras later, it wasn't the camera but that damn Canon 50mm 1.4 👌🏾
Back when there was no pixel or camera brand war 😌 good times. I still only had the kit lens at the time. To help on her shoot I'd actually ended up giving her a wireless trigger, talk about happy. She'd actually given me a job to work with a few models and a young actor that day.
Much better idea than walking & talking 👏
I hope to see you take a Nikon D700 on a similar outing sometime in the future.
6:06 Bernie Sanders 😂
I have a sony a6000 with sigma 30mm 1.4 and i think buying 5d mark 2 for photos but and not sure jejeje
Bonjour Omar très belles photos ! je suis français et je reviens tout juste d'un court voyage à New York. J'ai beaucoup d'appareils photo et parmi ceux-ci, j'ai un CANON 5D ii. What are the lenses you have used for your pictures please? best regards from France (i will come back to NY on july) ^^
what is your lens brands and models
Hm I'm really thinking of getting an old 5D Mark II while waiting for modern full-frame mirrorless cameras to cool down in price...
Helpful video sharing your thought process. Did you shoot jpeg or raw for this set?
Both. Most were raw edits some jpegs. Depends on highlights shadows and white balance
@@ogonzilla Thanks. With my 10D I like SOOC jpegs but with 5D II I prefer raw. It is all so subjective.
What camera did you vlog with?
Sony ZV1
Carrying a rig that but digital, reminded me about lots of lenses, too many and no fixed viewpoint. Better the 50mm and all similar and cohesive. My opinion only. Smaller is better. Like how big are these images? Really. Not a criticism but observation. I quit that way back in late 60's. Smaller lighter faster and able to get closer.. Your framings are good. I NEVER use word 'compose' except for food shots. Go back, one lens, yes! The 50mm. Work harder. It's never casual! We are not casual but determined to nail images. Look forward to more.. All best. Yup! I am old..
Filmed on a Sony huh?! Ya feelin' ok Omar?
Why would anyone sink money into a new crop sensor camera when you can get full frame on tech that's a little older and ten times as good for a fraction of the price? The only advantage the new stuff has over cameras like the 5D, 5D MkII, and 6D are cAmErA FeAtUrEs that make taking pictures slightly easier. And if you really want a bargain that will peel your ears back, check out the used market on the 7D, it's embarrassing how astoundingly good the 7D is for the price you can currently get one for, it really is the ultimate cropped sensor camera.
Nex time you slice into those bikes try to get everything in focus to see if an interesting pattern emerges.
Great tour!👍
Im not sure if they’re nuns
