  • This is sort of a candle making crash course for beginners to get you headed on the right track. We overview the supplies/materials, candle making process, testing, and some other important tips. This is NOT a tutorial. However, there are several of those here on this channel. This video is more of a Candle Making 101 type ... sort of a playful lecture. So sit back, take notes, and watch multiple times if you'd like. Its best to get the basics fundamentals in your head before just diving right in.

    Your candle math formula is the best! And should be learned by anyone attempting to make a candle. Its a crucial step in knowing how much wax and fo to use in your candle! Wade is the best teacher and makes it understandable. Im so glad I found Wade and his videos when I began researching the process in 2019. I watched all his videoa and took notes. Reqatched when I didnt grasp something. Ordered some supplies and when I pouredmy 1st candle itwas near perfect! No wax wasted, great ht and ct! Wade's videos and teaching saved me money, no wasted supplies, and reduced the stress when first starting out in the world of candle making! Im forever grateful to Wade! Thank you Wade for all that you do! Youre a blessing for sure! ❤

    Wade you are heaven scent (lol) for me. I was all over the candle world, testing fragrance oils, wicks, jars and went crazy the 1st year. Now I’m in the second year and your advice to step back, breathe and reset was the best advice I heard. I slowed down and restarted and now, my candles are burning great, minimal soot and I’ve made a lot of progress, all because of you. Thanks and keep up the wonderful work.

    Just a quick note ... If you're in the UK (and most of Europe) you can't sell candles that have been made up of more than one preexisting fragrance oil without it going through lab tests and have the stamp of approval. Rules on this are far more relaxed in the US.

    It would be nice to have a video on packaging, labels, I'm in Canada, but to know where you recommend customizing boxes, is it worth it, label qualities, textured labels, etc. Jars... do you prefer clear or amber... how do you know which scents to bring in... where do you market research what your customers want... candle science explains scents by state, but we have none of this in Canada. Love your videos.

    I have soooooo many different waxes …. Wanted to do soy but soy is not giving me hot throw, so went on to coconut apricot blend and on and on and on. By watching your videos I think im using the wrong wicks. I’m using eco wicks and getting NO HOT THROW at all. Nothing but burning candle smell. Think the eco wicks burn to hot. So here I go down the rabbit hole again, going to order the cdn sample pack from your site. Wish me luck.

    Wade I have a question about container lids. I bought the Pewter Daisy lids off of CS. I didn't think about this earlier but I realized the lids have big holes as part of their design. I'm wondering if the candles with this kind of lid won't need any other structure to block the candle from being exposed to air? Like can I just leave the candles with hole-y lid and nothing else? The dust and stuff won't cause issue?

    Good morning 😊
    I have been testing Palm wax and was wondering if you have ever used it.
    Here's my issue, it appears that when my pillar candle is ready the bottom always has a big gap that you can't see until you try removing it from the mold, then it just crumbles when I push it out😢
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ❤
    Thank you

      I wouldn't, because it is a fire hazard. For the safest candle, only a wick/clip, wax and fragrance should be inside the vessel.

      He shows mica powder in this video. You could use mica powders and colorants to get the effect you want. I'm no expert but I'm betting he got a video on using mica in candies.

    For wick testing, could I fill a tray with wax and place wicks to figure out the diameter they will cover?🤔

    • @BlackTieBarn
      @BlackTieBarn  8 місяців тому +2

      You can but doesn't really give you a super solid answer because the vessel type and size makes a difference. Traps in heat for example. But it can give you a rough starting point

    when you make an 8 oz candle it only holds 6~oz of wax, so when you go to label it and sell it, Do you label it as a 6oz candle or an 8 oz candle ? it would be 6 right? not 100%
