Thanks for the vid, Mike 👍 Bigfoot isn´t on this continent tho. Early Fenno-Ugric tribes on skis hunted him down, ate him, made little jackets for their children off of the fur.
I'd really love to see you take the 4.0 out on a simple minimalist starter set up. And do a good gear break down of some bare essentials that you think can get some of us out there like you. When the 4.0 is up and going. I love your videos watching from the candian praires.
If you fit an inverter to the starter battery you can rapid charge the modern power stations off the alternator in an hour or so. My son was a pro skier for a bit and we used to run a ski iron with the engine at idle no problems. Obviously no problems if driving. As you trips never seem long enough to be diesel constrained this with induction cooking seems a good solution
That's a very clever hack for quick charging. My winter trips are pretty short, just a few nights at the very most as we have a young family, and I find it hard to be away. Maybe when he's a bit older, he can join me. I would love to do a longer winter adventure, maybe when I have a locker, though!! Thanks for the tips

Induction cooking is neat and I'd love to have an induction cooktop in my house, but for camping.......seems like more hassle than its worth trying to deal with more batteries and power generation.
I've never needed one until late winter when the conditions get like this. I will put in an E locker pretty soon, I think, but it won't be any use until next February, March
Another great video, well done! PM me, I have a spare Spartan locker for the Dana 30 I'll send you to get you by until you figure out your front axle build.
That's extremely generous of you! I've considered running one and just using 2wd in the winter when on the roads. I drive a lot in 2wd anyway, so provided it's not 4h, it should remain unlocked. I can't send PMs on YT because they stopped that service. Perhaps I can give you my email, or you can contact me through Instagram? Info@mcqbushcraft.co.uk
How about heating up the primus bottles in your fridge? If you keep them in the fridge and run a line outside to your stove you would use way less battery than with an induction cooktop?
So certain older volvos had a dana 30 rear with a govenor lock LSD. Which is not ideal, but it acts open until one wheel spins a certain rpm faster. Then it kicks in. Where you are, they should be cheap. If you want something better Id recomend a detroit trutrac
The Jeep has a chrysler 8.25" 29 spline on the back with a track lock. It's just an lsd but they are very good as both wheels always spin together. It's not so good when you don't want to drift, but a 30 on the rear would be a downgrade due to the small ring and Pinion. Thanks for watching
@WorkshoptoWilderness if you decide to get one, look into modifying the govenor system. You can make it engage faster, and not disengage at higher speeds. Theres a video here on yt about it.
Hence my voice over, but they also add massive amounts of traction and can get you much further even in deep snow. Provided the snow isnt too wet. Thanks for watching.

In the snow I haven't been concerned but prior to the summer its been on the back of my mind. I've already discussed it a lot with some mates here. I might have elastic straps holding them against the frame.

Awesome video Mike, so tell me did you get a response from Big Foot by smacking your balls off the side of your tent🤣🤣🤣🤣I about freaking lost it when you said that, I was sipping on some coffee and about spit that shit everywhere, that was funny as hell.
I'm sitting here on my 69th Birthday (Billy No Mates, Wife back in Russia), eating roast chicken, baked potatoes, salad, mayo, bread n butter etc. with a bottle of Merlot and watching you. What can I say, firstly excellent content as always, you really mastered that drone and getting it to fly backwards or camera reversed, no idea about the latest technology, but it works. Reminded me of the drone footage that The Van Life uses. Old Timer Hot Tip here, IF you really want to attract BIGFOOT then you ought to smear vaseline on the outside of your rooftop abode, downwind, the attractive scent will travel for miles (I of course don't know this personally, I got it from some old Alaskan HOMO). Next, I think that I only heard you swear once before in response to HAZE OUTDOORS wind up, but it sounds amusing to hear you swear in your own videos. Lastly, banter aside, serious question. SNOWCHAINS, do they work on when your tires/tyres are deflated or, do you have to inflate back to normal PSI? IF you had a front differential lock, would you have to have snowchains on all four wheels or two, front or back - I ask because my Lada Niva is permanent 4x4 and as yet, I've never needed to use chains, but I don't go off-road where there is such snow as you get - (so far). Thank you.
I weighed it on a full-size scale. It came in at around 2210kg ish with a full tank of fuel. Too heavy, I thought at the time. Subsequently, I've now permanently removed the rooftop tent and its accessories. That's 90kg off the top. I also replaced the drawers in the back with a much lighter build and took out the steel cargo rack. So perhaps in total, I would say 120kg off, BUT I did put in 30kg of batteries, and the new drawers were 25kg, so realistically, I dropped 65kg. So it's around 2145kg fully loaded with 100 litres of diesel. It runs much better without the wind sail on top, plus it's up around 200hp now and near 400nm of torque, so overall, it just feels less heavy.
Torque is 380nm, power 150hp. It's a factory engine we get here in Europe, although not quite stock. I've always been very happy with it as the peak torque curve is around 2000 rpm, so it's never really spinning wheels. They are not good at floatation work but unstoppable when crawling. A turbo swap would help bring in earlier spool up, but we shall see. Thanks for watching
