Great to get out - growing up in eastern Canada with a Father that was an avid hunter and fisherman that took us camping, hunting and trapping a lot cultivated a love of being in the places like you feature in your videos. I ended up working offshore international and working with a lot of UK personnel - they would always ask me if there were a lot of bears and yes, there are but we never think about it when we are out camping or fishing. Like you said - depends on where you grow up, more likely to have a car accident driving down the freeway then being attacked by an animal.
Thank you for the pictures and the words of wisdom Mike. Yes the wilderness soothes, repairs and makes us forget what is sick in society. I live in France and I have been exploring the Pyrénées for ever. Off the beaten trails. I agree that humans and not bears are the real causes of anxiety at night. But Samivel, the writer, explorer and graphic designer used to say that the higher you climb, the fewer chances you have to encounter a psychopath. So there is hope ...

Mike. I lost track of your content around the time you were playing with new channel name ideas.. Glad I stumbled on this. The Jeep is a beast!! Cheers from Canada
This is the second of your videos that I’ve watched and thoroughly enjoyed. I also enjoy solo camping in my home state of Washington. One has to be careful because we have both types of bear. (Black and brown) and both can be quite dangerous. Add wolves and mountain lions and I never go out alone without my firearm. As you said, I’m more worried about people so I look for the most remote places to vehicle and moto camp. I do many of the same things you do to make myself more comfortable. While I’m sitting and enjoying the fire I always have my back to a tree, my vehicle or some mountain side to be cautious. I let my friends and family know where and when I’ll be back and say my prayers for a safe trip. I absolutely love solo camping and exploring and will never stop. Cheers brother. Thanks for watching and glady you like the videos. I can imagine that with that kind of wildlife you have to be careful. It's all pretty shy around here. I've only ever seen one bear and found wolf tracks. The one critter I am scared of meeting is the wolverine. There are a lot of them here. It sounds like we're kindred spirits. Solo camping is in my blood and I absolutely love it. Thanks for tuning in

Always glad to see a new video from you but also good to see that you take parts of each trip just for your enjoyment. Keep safe and stay well.
That was a lot of fun, thanks for taking the time to share. I was most impressed by the performance of your machine in that bog. I'm not really a jeep guy, in fact I cant stand them but I'll watch anything with you, Mike. We fell in love with your MCQbushcraft channel many years ago... And you're right about people, when we camp, we carry bear spray everywhere and not necessarily because of bears. Glad you weren't murdered.
Appreciate you watching and thanks for the comment. It seemed to plug through the bog quite well. I'm thinking of buying a small bear spray can for any possible encounters, man or beast. It's not bears I worry about really. I was out camping yesterday and there were bear tracks and shit that were probably from the previous evening. I'm sure the bear left the area when it heard me but the two lagged predator is more curious

Great video Mike. Looks like we got the old MCQ back again albeit with a Bic lighter and a diesel heater, I don't mind that ! The bulges and the bogs of the eternal abyss didn't stop the old Jeep. Regards to all Sandy

Excellent advice mate .. 2 legged predators are a problem here in the USA in my case a nice piece of equipment is nigh vision it’s pricey but its super cool when u can see in the dark and have that advantage. We goobers have that advantage of being able to own long rifles and extend mags im sure it will scare most people that didnt grow around them. But in my case its for my protection and my family’s. Mike i have to say if i ever get to meet you ima get you some Mexican beers i cant with the tea 😂sorry
I use to have a nice gen 2 on top of one of my guns in the UK. Sold that gear a while back and I always regretted it. Its useful stuff and I always enjoyed watching the girls in the apartment next door stripping off and running around thier garden drunk. Its great that you can carry a weapon. Makes you feel more prepared for sure. Haha I don't really dink but I can't live without tea mate 😅
I couldn't agree more regarding humans, they petrify me, I'd be happy to never see another one! I have no issues with wildlife though. Thank you for sharing your trips Mike, I appreciate the effort involved with filming and editing. You're somewhat of a lifeline imo. As far as humans go I'd be very happy to have you around.
They videos are all still on UA-cam just under the old channel. UA-cam didn't like hunting so they basically trashed the channel and blured parts of videos out and made it all pretty crap. Shame really but thank you for stopping by and watching again!
Its a PVC ducting for ventilation in 76mm. I bought it online in Sweden. Its not heat rated though to be connected right next to the diesel heater as its max temp is 80c. I almost killed myself using it as it was slowly burning and filling the tent with smoke but I had all the windows open so I didn't die. I still use the duct but I have about 50cm of thermal duct first directly connected to the diesel heater which can handle much higher temps, then I have the flexible duct after it. Obviously carbon monoxide and fire alarm installed now as they arrived the following week. Personally I would look for something better than can handle temps of at least 100c
Oh their out here alright. Uncle Time seems to have kicked it into 5th gear since having a child and father weathers been pretty kind the last few months! Thanks for watching.
They are very good engines but they need some work to get them performing well in my opinion. I've modified mine quite a bit and the heads are not the originals.
I would frame stiffern the rear and use some tie in brackets inside the frame to attach the bumper too. Frame stifferners across the whole jeep along with a box rocker replacement makes a massive difference.
There were a few trees here and there and I would have doubled the length of my winch using the recovery strap. First thought I would have probably reversed if possible and tried again with more speed lol. Looks like that track gets used a lot as there were tracks on tracks next to tracks which made it way harder to stay on line.
Speaking of your other channel, do you plan on uploading to it again? I ask because I didn't know about this channel until a month ago. Just curious. Thanks for the great content from Colorado.
I doubt I will ever upload there again. The channel basically got black listed, hacked and youtube demonitised almost everything on there because of the hunting and field dressing content. My jeep content also didn't go down well on there. I'm pretty happy uploading on here and starting again, combining everything I enjoy about the outdoors. Appreciate you watching and thanks for the comment
Glad someone asked this question as I was wondering the same thing. Really missed Mike when the other channel disappeared and only recently found this one! I really enjoy your content Mike, regardless of which channel it's on👍
@@WorkshoptoWilderness I just hope you or UA-cam never remove those videos. I still like to go back and watch them. Tons of good info and great adventures.
@@mrwes100 That was more of the point. Here in the PNW of the US bears and other predators are a real thing so bear spray while hiking is a must. As you say my daughters also use it for two legged predators as well. I have not been sprayed with it but know some park rangers who got some on them standing down wind and say it is the most excruciating thing that has ever happened to them.
@@rsvp6 I carry bear spray here in New England, as we have an over abundance of black bears. I had several encounters, but they typically run off scared. It’s the bears coming into the neighborhoods you need to watch out for, they are not afraid of humans.
It's so strange you debunked one of my favorite videos , that camping and hinting trip you did in Wales. And very very lol for the lighter comment "... well I came with the car..." Evolving throughout life with your relationship with nature and the world is the only way and abnormal it would have been to keep making feathersticks for a living .. Great video although I wouldn't have plowed through that mud to get to a better camping spot , you never know what could have happened and it was avoidable . Keep safe
In the US human beings are becoming more of a problem. Campers and trailer people are easy marks for hit and run city criminals. It is so sad to have to worry about your camp when you are out hiking or fishing.
Ah that sounds terrible but I can imagine that happening. Nothing worse than worrying about camp when your miles away. I get that here sometimes when I'm in tourist destinations but fortunately no issues yet. Thanks for watching
Yep. If people around us seen decent we'll put stuff in the tent and lock it, generally they will leave your camp alone if they can't walk in and just grab something (acting like they belong). If people are dodgy we will leave the tent locked with loooong stakes, but pack everything else back into the vehicle if we go fishing all day.
Yeah, the problem in the US is that everyone can carry weapons on them. So when you get robbed they will most likely be armed, which means you have to be armed. So now it’s about who shoots who 1st. In the UK, it would be less likely to escalate to killing each other.
There are bears, some wolves and those wolverines which to be honest are the last things I want to meet. Some small cats but nothing like a mountain lion. Its mostly bear and elk I think could be a problem depending on the time of year etc...
Mike, thanks for sharing another trip. I find all the enhancements you have made to the Jeep fascinating and am really taken with the flexibility of the large Swedish griddle type cooking system your utilising as I share your aversion to washing up lots of pans. I noticed you using one of your Field Masters which I was never quick enough to buy when they were sold. I know that Lee passed after his terrible accident and wondered if you had thought about asking Sandy or another expert to make some more of your design out of the RWL 34. I would love to have one and am sure am not the only one ? Best, John
Hey John, i never did approach anyone else about making a field master. I don't know if they would agree to it and it just didn't feel right in a way. Poor Lee, he was a great guy. The cooking system is working really well and I'm liking the lack of washing up along with its versatility. It can be a bit of a gas hog and it's a slower cooking experience, but with the liquid white gas it's working much better than cans.
Hi Mike, would you mind if I approached another knife maker Emberleaf Workshops, who I have discovered make knives in RWL34 to ask if they would make me one of your design Field Masters. Nothing fancy just totally functional with a kydex horizontal sheath ? If you would rather I didn’t I totally understand.. Best John
Bit of a sausage fest out there in the wilderness Mike. Should take some of that patreon cash and hire a model to come with you. Could dress up in a skimpy mosquito costume and test the integrity of your new tent walls. Don't forget the extra lights!
Too many sausages to be honest. Mind you looking at the bushcraft space on UA-cam now there are some interesting thumbnails of rather lightly dressed ladies racking up view counts in the millions. I guess its a good lure.
@@WorkshoptoWilderness Btw, about diesel-heater and the carbon-monoxide detector. That is very wise investment, i'll give you one example of what can happen. I recently build my diesel heater in to a box, logically i put the intakes on one side and the exhaust on the other side. After 30 min of running the system lost power, bad contact in the cigarette lighter connector. This stops the fans and the combustion stops, but because of the heat diesel is now creating heavy white smoke. Any how when that happens there is smoke coming out from the combustion intake and because it was on the same side as clean air intake diesel smoke came in to the tent for a few seconds, enough to fill it with smoke. This might have happened when i was sleeping and i would have been inhaling that smoke for a while. Might be wise to see how one's system is reacting to power loss and always have a carbon-monoxide detector.
I'm glad I bought one. I also installed a fire alarm inside the diesel heater box. Did a little test with some burning material on the exhaust with the box shut and the alarm went off. The monoxide detector is such a peace of mind. Hopefully I can sleep easy now. Appreciate the heads up on it, good example on the unit failure also, I've had something similar happen when I used it to heat the garage.
Yeah the old diesels are loud engines. Lots of chattering, mechanical noise and grunting. The snorkel and exhaust make it all much louder. I would like to make it quieter by building a new exhaust. I actually love the sound of the old diesel engines personally, just quieter would be cool
This has to be the cleanest XJ on UA-cam

Its called a Muurikka and they come in cast iron (like mine) steel and of all shapes and sizes. Ive just made a video on mine and it will be up tomorrow.
how do you install a camera near a tire like that, bro, if I see it, it's cool, it's also different from other UA-camrs, so it can be clearer, right?
It's a gopro in a waterproof case with an attachment on the bumper. I put a couple of them around the underside of the Jeep. Appreciate you watching!
Thanks for watching mate and the comment. Nice to know the videos do some good. Some dodgy characters out there for sure.

It's from a company called Function.

I used to watch the old channel and was looking for one you did about Coastal camping in the UK. What ever happened to all those vids?
They videos are all still on UA-cam just under the old channel. UA-cam didn't like hunting so they basically trashed the channel and blured parts of videos out and made it all pretty crap. Shame really but thank you for stopping by and watching again!
Great video Mike. Do you have a video about you tire carrier set up?
ua-cam.com/video/tzQ5O36MPWU/v-deo.html - I think in this video I show how it works and assembled it.
Thinks Mike.
I swear every Brit has the same Tesco snap tub full of Yorkshire tea bags lol
Hey,
what kind of hoses Do you usw for your diesel heater?
Search for some and yours Looks flexibel for a good storage
Greetings from germany
Is “Father Weather” a thing out in those parts? And would that make it “Uncle Time”?
Oh their out here alright. Uncle Time seems to have kicked it into 5th gear since having a child and father weathers been pretty kind the last few months!
Thanks for watching.
2,5 td is ok ? I've heard those engines are problematic... sth with splited engine heads ?
They are very good engines but they need some work to get them performing well in my opinion. I've modified mine quite a bit and the heads are not the originals.
Hi!
Are those ZJ seats??
Any tips on reinforcing the back of the frame planning on adding lots of weight in the future so I gotta start strong
I would frame stiffern the rear and use some tie in brackets inside the frame to attach the bumper too. Frame stifferners across the whole jeep along with a box rocker replacement makes a massive difference.
Just curious, to how you would have got,out of there if you did get bogged, with little to winch off, jeep was pulling quite hard!
There were a few trees here and there and I would have doubled the length of my winch using the recovery strap. First thought I would have probably reversed if possible and tried again with more speed lol.
Looks like that track gets used a lot as there were tracks on tracks next to tracks which made it way harder to stay on line.
my father used to say that drier than a popcorn fart
Speaking of your other channel, do you plan on uploading to it again? I ask because I didn't know about this channel until a month ago. Just curious. Thanks for the great content from Colorado.
I doubt I will ever upload there again. The channel basically got black listed, hacked and youtube demonitised almost everything on there because of the hunting and field dressing content.
My jeep content also didn't go down well on there.
I'm pretty happy uploading on here and starting again, combining everything I enjoy about the outdoors. Appreciate you watching and thanks for the comment
@@WorkshoptoWilderness UA-cam sucks. Without guys like you, they'd be broke.
First bushcrafter I ever watched. 🙌
Nice
the way we here in the States drive through mud is .
1: drink a bunch of beer.
2: go full send until you make it or break it .
just sayin
Thats another alternative haha 😄.
Is this forest in the UK??
No it's in the North of Sweden. Probably places like this in Scotland
Can you use bear spray in Sweden?
Yeah pretty sure you can order it online. Probably should buy a can
Works good on two legged predators too. 😉
And very very lol for the lighter comment "... well I came with the car..."
Evolving throughout life with your relationship with nature and the world is the only way and abnormal it would have been to keep making feathersticks for a living ..
2A
@@fpartidafpartida Those are folks that illegally carry. Not law abiding citizens practicing their right under the 2nd amendment.

Круто, однака не знаю английский, но смотреть было интересно.))
What tire pressure do you run ?
Hey I replied on the other comment.
are there bears or mountain lions or any kind of animals that could harm you in those woods where you are camping ?
Best John
No problem John, if they want to contact me for more info my email its info@mcqbushcraft.co.uk
What’s your other channel called ?

Bit of a sausage fest out there in the wilderness Mike. Should take some of that patreon cash and hire a model to come with you. Could dress up in a skimpy mosquito costume and test the integrity of your new tent walls. Don't forget the extra lights!
Too many sausages to be honest. Mind you looking at the bushcraft space on UA-cam now there are some interesting thumbnails of rather lightly dressed ladies racking up view counts in the millions. I guess its a good lure.
9:30 😂
I think you earned the comfort of a lighter Mike. But please don't slowly move towards campervans and matching track suits, that'll break many hearts!
🤣 I will try not too. There was a time when a 4wd van tempted me but I'm quids into the jeep now. Appreciate you watching
Yes, I'm way more alert to humans than animals in the woods.
The most dangerous living thing in the woods is a human with mental problems. I'll take a Black bear any day.
Yeah absolutely!
your jeep is to noisy not only does it sounds horrible but makes it hard to hear you sometimes
Yeah the old diesels are loud engines. Lots of chattering, mechanical noise and grunting. The snorkel and exhaust make it all much louder. I would like to make it quieter by building a new exhaust.
I actually love the sound of the old diesel engines personally, just quieter would be cool
I know all about rattly diesel engines I have Colorado very rattly when cold but much better when warmed up. @@WorkshoptoWilderness
