- Hey yall so this DIY was not planned at all it was kinda last min 😂 . I was getting a ton of ideas from y'all on pinterest (my Pinterest: Budgetfam ) and I kept seeing fireplaces with pretty original old brick and then I was like dang I want a fireplace so I can have some pretty brick lol but obviously thats not gonna happen so I started looking up diy faux brick and I watched a ton of youtube videos and even read blogs after researching for one whole night ( when I should have been sleeping) I decided to go for it and im so glad I did. Once I get a few new decor peices and finish the shiplap wall its going to look so good . btw this diy was alot harder than i thought only because it takes alot of time to sand and add in the colors to get the desired look .
If your wondering why I didn't buy the contact paper and stick it on its because I would have needed at least 3 rolls because of the way I'd have to cut it to fit in this built in and that can get pricey. So I decided to do it myself on a extreme budget only spending $10 out of pocket 👏😁
Products used:
1. dap drywall compound ( mine was $5 but at walmart its $3.61)
2. metal spatula scraper ? lol $1.00 dollar tree
3. Acrylic paint $2 ( 2 elephant and 2 white )
4. masking tape $1 ( Get thin tape! )
5. Paint brush ( $1 )
6. wipes/ paper towels. If you decide to use a sponge you can a natural sponge from dollar tree in the bath section :)

Thank y'all so much for the sweet comments it means a lot ! Also i just wanted to mention that if your wondering why I painted instead of using the contact paper its because going the contact paper route can be pricey ( I would need three rolls because the way id have to cut it )but also because they don't always adhere correctly to wood surfaces which is what this built in is. But i do think it was totally worth the work !

For future reference... Attach cloth/sponge/whatevs to a paint brush (or anything, really) with a rubber band. Changes hand position and grip. Also...changing the type of application of the paint will create a more variegated finish look. Also...you can add paint to your mud/spackling/joint compound which is helpful in a finish look (also cuts down on your labor and time).
I love the self-taught aspect of your projects. Inspiring...and motivational. Keep it up!
