I just wanted to say that the vast varieties of Middle Eastern/ Southern Mediterranean/ North African cuisines are my absolute favorite styles of cooking, and I'm just overjoyed that you two are here sharing everyday approaches to those foods. Thank you, friends.
@@annchovy6well im all for people taking a strong stand on important issues but foremost this isn't a political channel, it's about food. South Eastern Asian food is out of this world too, I’ve always said food should bring the world together. How can you be against other countries when everyone makes such amazing food? These need to be your friends, the world needs to have a word with itself! The world has so much to offer all these counties so different to our own.

Thank you so much for providing the world with a delicious recipe like this. Since it is such a regional specialty rarely seen outside of Cairo, Egypt, my family and I are thankful when channels like yours show us amazing new recipes that we would’ve otherwise never seen. Keep up the great work Obi. We love your content.
Glad I discovered your channel and that there’s no obnoxious sexual innuendo in any of your videos! Wish more videos like this! My new fav cooking channel, cheers!
Thank you so much for this recipe. Although I'm Egyptian, I don't live in Cairo. the only place that did this style of shawarma in my area closed a long time ago and and it's all Syrian style shawarma restaurants now. It's been years since I ate this and I can't wait to eat it again without the 3 hours drive.😅❤❤
this shawarma looks so flippin good! I finally got hubby hooked on delicious middle eastern foods, I guarantee he's gonna lose his marbles when I make this.
Delicious! In Turkey last month visiting family; had a “Tantuni”, not sure but perhaps meat is prepared in a similar manner… may be kinda the same I am from west and tantuni is not authentic there but became a super popular fast food option-… as to this recipe I am going to try this! Can’t wait to find out
Hello friend, I rarely ever try any dishes I learn online or even here on yt. To give you an example, I believe hummus is the sole recipe that I might have tried after following here on yt, and after discovering this recipe from you, and learning that you can include orange and lemon peel into a savory dish especially beef, really got me curious. After trying your dish following every step including the tahini sauce, I will tell you that I was just beyond blown away by the flavors I discovered. I generally prepare Pakistani food like their line of BBQs and briyani etc (my own recipes which I tweaked and developed in like 13-14 yrs or more of trial and error), this was one of the very few dishes that I might have ever tried after learning online and man I was completely blown away. Just can't thank you enough for sharing this and having me learn something magical. All the best!
I had a jar of pepperoncini and I included about 10 of those as well in 1kg meat marinade, and they also made a great taste enhancement. I didn't have Arabic 7 spice, but did have Chinese 5 spice which I opened and used for the very first time after being in my cabinet for over a year (only because it also contained allspice LOL), it still generated an excellent flavor. I am now looking to buy Arabic 7 spice blend and next time I prepare your dish, I am sure it would be even better.
This looks perfect for a party I'm hosting soon! I've got a chuck roast just right for it. My favorite Latin American meat dish also uses a citrus marinade, so I'm sure yours will be delicious :) P.S.: the plating in your last video was amazing! It's really improved since the start of the channel :)
this looks awesome i can't wait to try it. everything i have teied from your recipes has been some of the best food ive ever eaten. great channel great chef thank you . and my heart breaks for the people of gaza. i wish the world would get together and have a bbq rather then war.
This is the best sandwich I've seen in a while!! I wanted to grab it through the screen. When I saw the initial street food version I thought it would be a hassle to make, but thanks for simplifying it for home cooks. This has convinced me to try Egyptian food for the first time :)
I made this shawarma and yellow rice for dinner. So happy with how it turned out! Thank you for the recipe and I'm looking forward to trying other dishes with sumac.

i really wanna try this at home, i'm keeping this saved just in case i get the opportunity to do it! and i really wanna thank you for your content, your passion and excitement really shows and it makes me just as thrilled!
Same here. Saved this 6 months ago, attempting to make it today! As I'm typing, the meat is sitting in its marinade and it already looks so good and tempting in that citrus marinade ❤
Damn do these look great, and I have everything to make them except the orange (I have a chuck roast in the freezer and I just made a fresh batch of baharat for hashweh for the upcoming American Thanksgiving). Definitely on the roster for a dinner this week. Thanks again!
I'm making this tonight. I already baked some soft brioche buns and the meat is marinating right now. But instead of the tomato salad I will combine with the pickled red cabbage from the chicken sandwich. This stuff is so addictive.
I cooked this recipe exactly as it is shown in the video and was so excited to try it. I love a good Shawarma and this sounded like a very original take and looked delicious. I have to say that I didn't like the taste at all. It tasted like meat cooked in onion pulp and didn't elevate into an interesting flavor profile. The smell after it is cooked is kind of funky as well so not a dish that I would make if I had guests. Definitely try first before you make it for guests or a party. I will not cook this again but the tahini sauce was great.
by the way//I am Egyptians wife//I do this with my steak/chicken/whole chicken/all meat basically//marinade for a few days add some tahini to it if it's shawarma while cooking//I usually use the juice of a lemon or vinegar instead of the zest//and its yumminess and usually a few garlic cloves//
Nothing beats this shwaermaaaaaaaaaaaa i have eaten many styles this is the best and they call it doner and it`s never as yummy as this on in Egypt with onion, tomatoes and parsley its just amazing,, the other doners are dry and no tomatoes and does not have this juicy amazing taste,, to be honest to me this is the one i was raised on eating and the best !
Appreciate sharing this recipe! I have one question for the cooking method though. Considering shawarma is cooked with fire, wouldn’t it be a better choice to cook your recipe by stir frying in a hot cast iron pan? When you use a pot like you use, doesn’t it boil it first until the meat loses all it’s juice?
For those reading, it basically tastes like a middling sloppy joe, def not traditional shawarma flavor. It's not bad and the meat turns out super tender and the tahini on top is nice but I wouldn't make again; also it's surprisingly bland. As some other people pointed out, it's way too liquidy at the end and you end up boiling the meat. Highly suggest as others did straining your onion mixture post-marinate pre-cook to get red of the excess moisture, at the end of a four hour slow cook I had soup, not stew, and it took an hour on medium-high, not ten minutes, and transferring to a large wide skillet to evaporate out the excess moisture.
ya, one can clearly tell you are obsessed with such food. looks very healthy, esp the sweet soft bread, so people without teeth also can get the cosy feeling of obesity. parts of dead corpses wrapped in plastics, filled into sponge "bread" with lots of mayo. with lots of coke i guess.
I just made this and it's pretty great. I used lean beef and duck fat, messed with the proportions a bit and cooked for almost 2 and a half hours. Still very good indeed.
