For my vegan homies: you can replace the chicken with oyster mushrooms! They shred really well and taste delicious.
I had wondered about a vegan alternative, thanks !
True. Palestinian creator Plant-based Arab has a version of this on IG
I will try with jackfruit today
@@arkadiuszosiecki9851 omg please share after you've tried them! I'm so curious if this will work as well. I love jackfruit as a meat alternative!
@@pyroryx I used canned green one and did it as in the video and it works. For me for sure. I marinated for about an hour though.
As a Jewish American, I think it is absolutely important for me and others like me to experience Palestinian culture through their food, and as a method of standing in solidarity with a people who are being brutally oppressed by multiple regimes. May peace prosper.
🫡 well said!
While at it, experience Sudanese, Iranian and Syrian food as well. Then ask yourself what they all have in common. May common sense prosper.
greetings from egypt just dropping in to say that i always show people around me the nice comments and actions of jewish people like you so they see its not all as they see on TVs, you help fighting real anti semetism unlike what some say, stay safe and thanks

As a person who lost friends in the October 7 bombing of a musical festival, both Islamic and Jewish friends I feel that it is important to take a step back and not bring politics into this. Look at both sides please.. these people were at a festival of music. Hamas bombed them, they also abducted them. Some abducted have come home many have not, particularly women and children. others have been beheaded publicly. Both sides are suffering because radical extremists have chosen, yes chosen to use citizens as targeted collateral. To me that is unacceptable from either side. Islam does not accept homosexuality, it also states from Mohammad that women can be beaten by their husbands and fathers. This is way to complicated to just say , eating a meal, that I have eaten for over 50 years is a political statement. Please remember all of these people no matter what religion or creed are people. They are all someones child, parent, cousin etc. Please remember this when you state your stand .. Many people lost family from both sides, there is no right here.
This looks delicious! I can’t wait to try this recipe. FREE PALESTINE! 🇵🇸
I appear to be in possession of a lot onions, sumac and bit of chicken... Its time to make this.
Gotta use them left overs 😮
What a beautiful idea to share Palestinian culture through food with our friends here on the other side of the world. I love that. I’m in.
As a Palestinien this is definitely my favorite childhood dish , you did it amazingly ❤❤

I'm a butcher and this recipe looks like a great basis for a chicken sausage, love your work.
YES! Sign me up.
My guy!! If you figure out a good recipe that stays moist, let me know and I might make a video on it!
I think chicken will dry out in a sausage, it needs a more fatty meat
chicken thighs are quite fatty and they would work@@vacantplanet

I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your courageous efforts in using your platform to shed light on the ongoing crisis of genocide in Palestine. Your dedication to raising awareness and advocating for justice is truly inspiring. By speaking out against injustice, you are making a meaningful difference in the lives of countless individuals affected by this tragedy. Your bravery and compassion serve as a beacon of hope in these challenging times. بوسة للي ربت / ربوا ولا تزعل 😆
Thank you, but it's not bravery. I'm safe at home and have plenty to eat, millions don't. Silence in the face of all that is complicity.
This!!! Thank you for raising awareness.
You're a real one @@MiddleEats, as a Palestinian it's so nice to see your unequivocal support, not 'both sides'ing things and speaking out regardless of the impact that has on your sponsors etc. Thank you!

@habibieats there is the truth and there is a lie, we all know the truth alhamdulillah
my heart goes out to all the people in the Gaza strip during this struggle for survival. I wish I could do more than just send my prayers!
My heart goes out to those hostages as well
Justice and good recipes! What a combo.Going to experiment with veg options. May all peoples but especially those in Palestine soon be able to enjoy the great good fortune and human right of nourishing food.
Thank you Obi and Salma. Even after almost 6 months you have not ceased to utilize your platform to advocate for justice. Amazing work as usual.
love to see you sharing Palestinian culture, it really deserves the attention. thank you for all that you do!
If you don't like wars, don't start a war.
@@ceooflonelinessinc.267If you don't like the entire world as enemies, behave better. Can I even say that without being censored?
That's why I wrote if you don't like the natur of war, don't start a war.
@@ceooflonelinessinc.267 Who started the war? israel that have been killing palestinians since 1948 or hamas who were founded in 1989?
So, I had all of the ingredients to make this but the saj, but I DID have eggroll wrappers. Musakhan eggrolls were had for dinner tonight (in the air fryer).
Thank you so much for your continued support of Palestine. Their genocide cannot continue.
wait egg roll wrappers sound like they’d make a brilliant fusion dish- will try that, thank u
Please understand what the word genocide means and read up about WWII. My uncle liberated Belsen. His father was Muslim (ie, my grandfather). Look to Iran.
@@azbeaux Genocide is officially defined as the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.
Is that not what the IDF is not-so-secretly attempting to do to the Palestinians?
Legit the furthest from the truth u can be.. Sad @@ashleys637
@@ashleys637 Oh you mean like when Hamas attacked and killed 1200 innocent civilians on October 7? Or do you mean their written and public declaration that they want to ‘annihilate’ all ‘Jews’. The IDF gives warning so that civilians can remove themselves to safe spaces instead of being used as human shields by their own Hamas leadership. If the IDF wanted to murder Palestinian civilians they would not give them warnings to flee.
thank you so much for making this video and voicing your support for Palestine!!
Amazing dish I will be making it soon. May our Palestinian brothers and sisters soon be free ❤
Holy crap, just made the onions and chicken. The most unique and foreign (at least to my palate) flavour i think I’ve ever tasted. You weren’t kidding when you said tangy. Now that Ive got the onion and chicken under my belt I’m looking forward to trying it wrapped in the markook with the tahini yogurt dipping sauce. Love your channel and love your support of Palestine. Thank you!
This looks delicious! Thank you for sharing more Palestinians recipes ❤️
I really appreciate the way you presented the point about Palestine. No inflammatory remarks or strong opinions, just stated UN-supported evidence of forced famine and took a humanitarian approach. I’ve loved this channel for a long time, but this made me respect the hell out of you even more. Cheers, can’t wait to try this amazing looking recipe!
Beautiful food and I love this video! I live in the USA and there is a lot of Sumac growing wild near me. I can just go pick it in the fall. For anyone looking to do that, be sure it is the Red Sumac only! Thank you for sharing! Palestine needs to be free and safe!
Thank you for sharing. ❤ I feel sad viewing this unique and beautiful recipe while so many Palestinian's are suffering. 😢
Just made musakhan rolls last night with beautiful last harvest falastini olive oil!! Couldn't find markook though so I had to settle for tortillas 😭 I'll be making your pasta negresco recipe today 😊
Much love and solidarity to our brothers and sisters in Gaza ✊️❤️🇵🇸
Where do you get ur olive oil?
@sarahgates6947 I got a huge 16 L container from Al Ard products. I'm not sure if they still have olive oil from last year's harvest, but I'd recommend trying their products. The olive oil was insane - so fruity and peppery and so fresh there's even a slight spice/burn to it when you eat it. Cannot recommend it enough if they still have the 2023 harvest oil - I was literally licking the oil off my hands
@@lailakuziez7782 Thank you. Appreciate you sharing.
I had the honor to try truly fresh high-grafe olive oil at a restaurant I worked at... I couldn't believe the difference.
I feel like markook should be easy enough to make (well, smaller versions), but I feel like a couple sheets of phyllo dough (with brushed oil between) would be better than tortillas. Not the easiest stuff to work with though!
I loved your musakhan fattah recipe so much, and this sounds even more delicious. I’ll admit that I originally thought the quantity of onions and sumac in your recipe was crazy, but I trusted you and ended up with a spectacular dish that I’ve made multiple times. Thank you for sharing the recipe. Food is the best way to share the story of a culture I think, and there’s no better time than now to share this story.
It sounds crazy yeah, but given how weak sumac seems to be as a spice it's pretty required. I think subbing in lemon and balsamic vinegar would require a lot less of those than the spice.
I had a student who brought these to à potluck xmas lunch at school. The usual pizza and chicken nuggets were more popular so I was left with them. Fell in love with them. So glad I found your video so I can have them again
Thank you Obi and Salma, for highlighting traditional Palestinians cuisine and for your consistent support raising awareness about Gaza. I always love your recipes, but this one is probably my favorite one so far 😊
I had some left over turkey, this gave me a good baseline for my lunch. Thank you for sharing it :)

Thanks so much for continuing to spread Palestinian culture. I can't wait to try these out, they look very easy! I foraged some sumac a little while back and this looks like a perfect way to use it. Ramadan Mubarak
Thanks, doing this tonight! 🇵🇸
Thank you for sharing this. I have never eaten it before. I’ve just finished making the sauce while I wait for the rolls to crisp up. It smells divine! We just ate a little sample of what didn’t end up in a roll. Delicious! Especially with the sauce. It really is the perfect combination.

Totally picked up Sofretna before I even got to the point in the video where you mentioned it. Was looking for more links to give more help with aid for Gaza and saw it. So happy that part of the proceeds will go to that. It's absolutely needed.

Thank you for this absolutely delicious looking recipe, completely new to me. And for your vocal support for the people of Palestine
everybody’s so creative!
This is my absolute favorite dish to cook and eat. I still vividely remember more than 10 years ago eating musakhan in Beirut (homemade) and what happened to me was like what happened to the critic in Ratatouille. Awesome dish and great video.
I appreciate you and i am so excited to try these. 🍉 Thank you for sharing this recipe!
This looks crazy delicious, I really appreciate you opening my culinary eyes to all sorts of dishes and spices with these recipes that I never see anybody else posting.
Thank you for this. I made a version of this tonight. I served it on some home made flatbreads with a yogurt and mint sauce as I didn’t have tahini. It was incredibly tasty.
Thank you for the detail that you go into …. keeping the chicken covered so as not to dry out, slicing it thinly and waiting till the edges brown, it’s this level of detail that really make your recipes a success.
You and I have quite a different definition of ridiculously simple, but I will bookmark and maybe try it sometime in the future.
It is, on the scale of middle eastern food.
@@mohammedabuhijleh1645 Fair enough!
I've been wanting to experiment with new flavors (Sumac especially) and this dish looks like a perfect place to start!
My kids love "finger foods," too and I know they will enjoy this-- especially with the special dip!
Can't wait to make! 😊 ❤
Thank you. The first thing that went through my mind was that Palestinians can't make these. They are starving. I actually feel guilty for watching this knowing that men, women and children are being starved. I am speaking out as a human being with a heart. I'm not Muslim or Jewish, Palestinian or Israeli. I am just an American who believes that everyone should be kind to others. What is going on right now is heinous.
Any human being with a heart regardless of their ethnicity or religion who believes everyone deserves to live freely and treated equally feels the way you do.
As was October 7th. Some of the most barbaric brutality I've ever seen depicted in the modern era.
@@SnowsStorm1 Which tells me you've never seen any conflict, including every time the IDF "mows the lawn" (that is the term they use to mass murder Palestinians), including 2 years prior.
❤
@@SnowsStorm1 Clearly you've never seen footage of the countless wars and atrocities in the modern era until now, nor have you seen any of the footage of the genocide in Gaza. I encourage you to step out of your bubble. There is no comparison between the October 7th attacks and the genocide in Gaza that's been going on since then. Go read up on the continuous atrocities Israel has committed on Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem for decades and you will see how saying the October 7th attacks are as bad as everything the Palestinians have experienced, unless you just simply believe Palestinians aren't as human as Israelis.
These look delicious!! I just bought some sumac, and have been trying to decide how to use it. These rolls look like the perfect place to start. 😋
Thank you for this recipe, Palestinians are our neighbors for hundreds of years~ Ramadan Kareem
So happy you remind people of whats happening in Palestine.
There is less and less coverage in the media and it almost ignores the ongoing massacre of the Palestinian people.
I love your recipes. I love how authentic the recipes are and accessible to everyone!

God give them strength 🙏💙🇵🇸
The sumac made me think the onions were originally red onions lol! this looks lovely, I can't wait to try it! thank you for sharing this integral part of Palestinian culture, and taking a moment to discuss the atrocities being thrust upon the Palestinian people and Palestine as a whole over these long decades and most recently. This looks AMAAAAAAZING and I can't wait to try it. Over the last couple of months, I have been making Palestinian dishes for events...whether it is a Karate tournament party, a bake sale, or just as a gift to drop off to people I know who (due to media misinformation and other such propaganda) support Israel.
If you have not seen Taidgh Hickey's videos here on UA-cam, look them up. Matthew Lieb is another good one.
I forgot to mention that I include a small card with each serving that outlines the situation and provides resources for more information or ways to help. I can go onto my PC later and copy/paste the text on these cards and post it here, if anyone would like to print and pass them out to people. ❤

Thank you very much for sharing this recipe. I did eat these for first time in a Lebanese restaurant, and yes they are very good.
When i started watching this i couldn't take the fact that i didn't have cardamom in my spice cabinet and went straight to Amazon and bought some. I love cardamom... Now i have to get some sumac which i have never tasted or if i did it was as a kid for someone like my uncle... Way to many decades ago. I hope i like it because all the black pepper and cardamom i know that tingles my taste buds....yummy. i gotta try these!

They make these down the street from me. With pickled onion and tahini dressing. The wrap is what really sets it apart

This one is treated as a side dish in restaurants, but I really think it's a full meal ❤ love it

From what i can see, i think filo pastry would also work really well for these rolls? Looks similar in texture potentially
It would work, but brush them all over with butter. The texture of filo is a lot more delicate
At first glance, I thought it was filo pastry! So I was going to ask the same thing. There are no Middle Eastern grocers anywhere near me so I have no way to buy Saj bread. Supermarkets near me have lavash but this looks far too thick. Tortillas also look thick but a reasonable compromise. Maybe double sheets of filo?
@@MisterM2402 yeah double sheet of filo could work, butter between them. Another option is a spring roll wrapper
Brilliant.
