- I've always wanted to spearfish in Croatia and after leaving Italy and Slovenia we finally made it here in the northern Adriatic Sea. Limited to shore diving is always a challenge in these places but as always, I don't give up and I'm rewarded for a long swim.

I knew croatia is going to be even more challenging than greece or any other part of mediteranian cuz here the fisherman are very skilled and fishing is a big big part of the culture so it is quite overfished, also it never even had as much fish as in greece to begin with
I actually found Croatia on par with other places in the Mediterranean I have fished. Italy and Greece also have amazing spearfishers. Next video in Croatia there is a bigger fish captured!

In Brasil the name of this tomatoes its Tomate Cereja (Cherry Tomatoes), my favourite way to use them its a confit in olive oil with herbs and garlic as you can use to a huge number of recipes, you can use the flavoured oil to cook or my family fav its with risoto. Thanks for the content and keep diving, in January 24 i will be in the water thanks for inspiration and visit Brasil.

Hey Marin, I know Croatia is quite big but I was wondering if Zadar has some good spots for spear fishing you might know of ? Also for legal think besides the license for 30 days and the bouy are there any other legal things to consider ?
@laurenzuebachs1604 don't know the area unfortunately but there must be great spots there as well, try to find them using Maps, street view and check for sea depth to look for a reachable rocky shore, or as usual from a beach or pier and then fins. Legally just avoid port areas and crowded beaches, that's all.

@jamest9178 I saw that, great fish. Same size as my biggest dentex, also from Spain.
Mediterranean is the best, I just don't watch spearfishing in other seas/oceans because it's like going to the supermarket. I actually used a pole spear lately in Spain and it has been super challenging but also fun, almost would have hit multiple sea breams if only I had developed some aim with it.
@@IvanGreguricOrtolan as someone who has fished in the Med and the Ocean I can say they both have their challenges. Its easy to watch videos from the ocean and see lots of fish and think it’s easy, just like watching videos from the med with large dentex swimming straight up to people in 5m of water. These are only highlights and not the normal.

Danny not sure which way you re taking but if you are driving down the coast intio Greece and then across North Greece into Turkey you should try "Syvota" and "Ammouda" more or less as you enter Greece and then "Kavala" (the little swim to Island just before), Molyvoti and Nea Xili for Dentex and Sea Bream. Those are along the way. Especially Kavala is like 0 detour. If you have more time then Xalkidiki has some even better spots but they are a bit of a detour (1-2 hours). Let me know if you want details on any of these.
Thanks Alex, yes we did drive that way. Spent a few days in Chalkidiki but with all the seasonal closures it was hard to get to any beaches with access to good spots so only octopus. Had a lovely lunch in Kavala on the way to Alexandroupoli before crossing to Turkey. Definitely a place I’d go back to.

Good video and i see you were diving on Krk. I think you still move way to much on the botom for Mediteranian sperfishing so look out for that. I would recomend you to find somewone with a boat next time. There are plenty of good instructors acros Croatia.

This was a holiday with a few hours of spearfishing and a week of bad weather. I was going to go with Daniel Gospic but the bora was too strong to get out. Happy to just get something for dinner!

@@DanielMann Bura (Bora) is good for seabass in shallows (0-5m) even Orada (Gilthead Seabream), You can find them sized from 0,5 - 4,0 kg, depending on the season. You dont need boat, go with car to a beach of Your choice and enjoy. I had some pretty good catches surface stalking, You dont even have to dive 🤣

I've noticed you switched foot pockets from the mares razors, but not blades, was it an easy swap? I have the razor myself and blades but the razor foot pockets are a bit bulky when traveling light. Your new ones look pretty good for that.
I got a new set of blades as well, slightly longer than my previous short version. Well worth the upgrade on the pockets, heaps lighter and very comfortable.

What Australian fish compares to a dentex? So far in the tropics I would say Tuskfish is my favourite. The Med looks so inviting and there doesn't seem to be many sharks.
Not much exactly like it but imagine a hybrid between a green jobfish and snapper. Tuskfish are great eating, my favourite would be red emperors. No sharks to worry about. Extremely rare to see one. I know guys in Italy that have been diving there for 40 years and never seen one.
@@DanielMann one would think that with lesser shark numbers there'd be more fish. But strangely wherever I find big predators I find plentiful fish life.
@Timbuctoo sharks need to eat so if there isn’t many fish, not many sharks.

Dan how long did the drive take to Croatia thinking off doing it in 2024 summer
Depends which way you go but we took our time through France and then Spain for the world championships and then across France again. If your goal is just to get to Croatia, it’s only about 1000 miles or so. You could do a solid drive across France and in to Germany and then stay there for the night and crack on the next day. French toll roads are absolutely savage though. Germany has none and the Austrian vignette is about €16 for a week.

Thanks Manny, I always get this question. The o ring stops the floppers from moving around and getting caught on things, especially when hole hunting or in kelp. Only con is it takes a little longer to reload but not really a problem in the med.

@@Mannyatsea never, it's a loose bit of silicone vs the power of the shaft. Nothing is stopping it from coming off.

Doing a lot of online research, talking to locals or people who have already been to these places. Having a network of spearfishers is very handy. The license in Croatia is a simple online process and you just pay the money. Much better than lots of other countries!

I always get enough sleep, hydration, make a plan before going out and listen to my body and how I’m feeling on the day. Every day is different. Some days 25m dives are easy, some days 15m dives are difficult. I always give myself a really long surface interval when solo and a bit deeper. At least 3X my bottom time.
@@DanielMannthank you for the tips! I dont want to make any advertisement but I heard of freedive recovery vests which can protect you from a blackout. Maybe that is interesting for you :)

Extra virgin is fine to cook with. Almost all of the Mediterranean countries cook with it.

I did it online and it was really easy. You can’t do it on the day you want to dive so make sure you do it the day before.

You need a sea fishing license. It can be done online easily. There are minimum size limits for fish and also closed season for certain species. Google is your friend.

well i would just like to say as Croatian myself that, unlike other videos of yours this feals quite rushed and unfinsihed, i wont commentated on size of dentex, it was legal with law, but in hardest sea to fish, why didnt you ask for help of local spearfishermans help? for example Taras Spearfishing (look him up) best fisherman in mediteran without exaggeration, for a fee takes you with him on a boat and shows you micro location to fish, its just wild to me thats all...
I had plans to dive with Daniel Gospic but the weather didn’t allow for it. I don’t have €200-€400 to spend on a day out spearfishing. I prefer to go with friends or discover things myself. It was a holiday, not a spearfishing trip.

Dear people of the internet, can someone please enlighten me with the question if its still permitted in 2024 to fish with a speargun in croatia? I ve seen one sentence on the official website that begs to differ, but i cant find anything else to that topic, especially since it is still possible to buy licences for "harpoon" fishing. Thanks for your answers in advance.
