Even Norwegian Halibut are viking warriors that''ll only go down after 4 spears and a knife to the head. That fish now swims through the Halls of Valhalla
Nice vid, but it's sad to see such big halibuts being killed in 2017/2018.. I'm from Sweden and many of us travel to Norway each year fishing for halibut, and for halibut bigger than 130cm it's always C&R to maintain the population, and we never bring them up into the boat because of the risk of spinal injuries. This is not easy for you to know, and the camp owners should have told you this. But have it in mind when traveling to new places.. and also have it in mind in your own country. Big fish are important.
In times when humans did not have big numbers it must have been amazing. I dream of days of amazing harmonic hunting. Being in tune and being able to harvest these amazing creatures, but alas, there is just too many of us it is sad 😑 cool video tho, that must take serious skill to do! How old do you think that fish was?
There is no mentioning of this in the video, but I suspect it would be a major party spoiler: There is a legal maximum limit for tourists bringning fish out of Norway. The limit is set at 20 kilogram/person for those visiting registered tourist-fishing camps. Fishing outside registered fishing-camps the limit is 10 kilogram/person. At the moment the fines for breaking the export limits are set at NOK8.000(EUR800) + NOK200(EUR20)/kilogram of fish exceeding the limit. I suspect the fines will be raising sharply in the years to come...
And most registered fishing camp have a maximum size on halibut, usally around 130cm witch is around 30kg. So everyting below 80cm or above 130cm go back in the Sea. Even the fish industry in Norway throw back big halibuts, even if they are dead. I think they can get a fine if they bring them back.
@@DanielMann No law. But I know a few camps that do tell their klients to try and release big fish above 130ish cm. 130+ fish is a good fish for reproduction. And they dont taste very good if they get bigger. I'm an angler though, easier to release. :) Nice video! You really got the scenery on point, it's hard to do!
@@DanielMann haha I do, and I know.. But u get my point? I have around 18kg left from my trip this year, we released 156cm, and kept some around 110 and the bigest 136cm. Got a total of 30 halibut, and kept 7. Angling though.
When I saw him lose that second fish with your gun I couldn't believe it. I feel like he was in over his head a bit to be after fish that big. Glad it worked out. Great channel!
If you will, please convey my appreciation to your friend Guiliano, for the idea of his tomato-based sauce with scallops. As a chef, I thought it looked easy, quick, and flavorful, but had NO idea how wonderful it actually is!! From now on, that's going to be a staple on any of our dives for either scallops or crabs!! So I'm sending high compliments to Guiliano from one chef to another! Eccezionale!! e molte grazie
Living up at kings beach on the sunny coast and have taken up spearfishing. Loving these videos! Its awesome that there is some locals getting out around the world and it's even better that you're sharing the footage of these epic adventures! Heading to El Nido in the Philippines in Feb and can hopefully get some footage of my own. Thanks for the vids! Maybe see you up on the coast one day!!
Wow that halibut is like the honey badger of the sea😂. It just doesn't give a shit that it got a spear near it's head. But if the human comes close, it'll be like "hell nah" and ran away.
I've watched a couple of your vids now after they popped up on my recommended bar, and I would say you make amazing videos, but these are insane movies. You can clearly tell how much time and effort are put into them. And I can't wait to see what else is in store, you've got yourself a new sub and you definitely deserve a lot more!
Bryson & Myself have dived around the Gold Coast and SEQLD for a long time and will always be a special place of familiarity. It’s also an awesome place to dive - not much you can’t spear there. I’ve been in London for the last two years so missing the warm Gold Coast waters that’s for sure. Still some cool diving this part of the world, just not warm diving!
I live on the goldie, fish that sea way and surf spit/straddie. literally been there everyday of this week love it! water is amazing right now, seen some big big pelagic's arnd too! Cold water aint for me bro, but hope your loving it over it there! great vids btw!

Great job telling the story of an awesome trip. You'll get your big halibut next time man! Speaking of which, be sure let me know if you need another diver when you go back! I'll film haha
Just subscribed and can't wait for more! Beautiful video and very well produced! As your channel grows you're going to get more attention and with that will come people who don't understand what you're doing and will show hate. Ignore them. Keep doing what you're doing. Fish on!
Minke Whale too (that's what was on the barbecue at the end), conservation wise they are of an 'least concern' species, but that won't last too long when more tourists turn up after watching videos like this.
Thanks for sharing this. I live not far from there. Hope to one day to get a halibut like you guys got. Saw one once, but didnt have a big enough speargun then.
This video is absolutely INSANNEEE!!!

Production quality like this is way better than most multi million subscriber channels! The fact that you're only at 3k shocked me
Thanks Giovanni, I guess my problem is I don’t upload frequently enough.
I thought I was watching a multi million sub channel before I saw this comment,
Too kind!
Ditto on that Giovanni !
So real you can feel it .
whaaat, the channel's only at 3k by the time this was uploaded??? daaaamn insane production quality
Gets shot twice through the head and still kicking. Holy shit.

Not only that, these old and big predators accumulate a lot of other stuff like mercury in their body, as they are pretty far up in the food chain.
I also wondered why they had urge to kill so many of them...
Kick ass video! Loved the story and the way you guys work the camera. Looks like a bang up trip!
Cheers Jon!

you really shouldnt fish for halibut because its an endangered animal

that is not true, at least not in norway. they were many years ago, but certainly not now
Samuel Song I agree and what ' s more, I don't think you're allowed to kill halibuts this size mearly for catch n' release
yh better to let those spawn more i think it should be illegal to kill halibuts for like a couple of years so they can re populate
Samuel Song please look it up. In Norway, the population of atlantic hallibut is listed as sustainable and it is actually going up.
This editing is awesome.
Thanks copperman!
