I discovered this 1966 Impala four door hardtop at a small town North Dakota farm auction. It's been off the road since 1988 and has seen better days. Let's see if we can get the 283 and Powerglide to live once again! This car has found a new home and is no longer for sale! As always, thanks for watching!

Does that mean if you ever "cross the pond" Mr. M. that Duff will have his own little piece of the UK to whizz on? 😆
Something like that!
I dub thee,,Master of thumbs!!!
I LOVE Established Titles! The wife and I "became" Lord and Lady Clark for her birthday this year. Glad to see Lord Duff getting the notariety he deserves!
Had to pick me up my Lordship. Very nice.
Thank-you for making me smile while I go through hard times. MUCH APPRIEATED.
Any time!
A year later, feel better? Greetings from Montreal.
I thank you and Duff for always making great content
Our pleasure!
@@MortskeRepair the DUFFSTER needs own channel, next thing youll knowhell want his own place DOGHOUSE GARAGE
Ooh!! That’s what you should’ve named the second channel! Dog house garage! Or duffs dog house! Or duffs dog house garage!
I love the content and I love Duff!

Sitting here with anticipation hoping the best,, to unlock this 283. Cheering you on,, awesome story , I'll never go back to television.
Thanks again.. from western Canada
Much appreciated Robert!
@@MortskeRepair I am smiling ... Because of your reply..
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that ever thinks of stuff like who ate the first mushroom or which ones are good to eat which ones are bad
Deep thoughts!
Perfect candidate for a two door post conversion. Show old DD speed shop how it's done.
If we didnt' have 784 other projects already.
Just go buy a 2 door there are many still out there and if you don't believe me check this link outua-cam.com/video/uP5PjknjxBc/v-deo.html
Yes! That would be 😎👍
Too bad about this one. I agree, put her up 4 sale and move on to the next one. Thanks for showing us what the problem was! Thanks for the Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the diagnostic teardown. That is one of the few things that will keep a SBC from running. At least you didn't have to pull the starter. Good luck this hunting season. Hopefully Duff stays out of the fecals for you. He was definitely not impressed after his bath!! We appreciate the time and effort you put into keeping us all entertained!
Love it when you cut to the clip of you gently tapping the valve on that flat head and it breaks. Still makes me smile every time.
“This is the dumbest, amazing thing I’ve done for a day and a half” needs to be a t shirt. 😂
Haha, we'll work on it!
Yes that would be a awesome shirt...
I'd buy that
@@MortskeRepair I definitely agree! I'd rock that shirt! I'm a dirty worker, so it'd be nice to see it on a black shirt...or better yet, a hoodie!
@@MortskeRepair given the weather for a guy who moved back to Montana after 20years in one desert or another A hoodie would be golden.
Man, ND must be absolutely stacked with classic cars.... seems like every week you find a new one.
I'm taking a hint from Duff and just doing Duff things today. Mortske in the morning and Puddin in the evening. And that's not a bad day.
Lord Duff and a kilt in ND would be a chilly situation. Thanks for another great Mortske Monday! Good luck and thanks to the editing department 🐾🍺
NO doubt!
It's so rare to see a flywheel cover on any old car. I'm liking that 63 in the background. Those mid 60s Chevrolet rear frame rails rust out. Thanks for the video 👍
Mondays are always great with a Mortske video! You e been on a Roll with these old Chevy s! Hi Duff
More to come!
I'm almost 80 years old the 283 was the most screaming motor that you could make out of an old hot rod
The best part of watching your catalog of videos...... I am reminded that you got a new shop! Congratulations 🎉
Seriously, I have enjoyed the reruns.
Thank you so much 😊
I can tell it's a 66 because of the way that it is...but thanks for the taillight info!
Always enjoy both channels!
Right on
Despite the engine was not a total loss, still worth picking up. Definitely that valve broke a long long time back.
Hate to see that 66 had a bad engine. Like to see anything
from the year I was born run again. This car has a great body
style. Cheers to you Mortske! 🍻 -Al
Good Morning Mr Mortske and Duff
Mornin Robby
Greetings from Scotland 🏴 great channel Mortske and Lord Duff. Come over the Atlantic for a visit and we’ll rustle up some serious critters for you both.
Thanks David!
That square body style of the 66 has always appealed to me
Thanks for all your hard work on this project guys!!
Much appreciated
Lord Duff Mortske, we salute you!
When seatbelts became mandatory, lap belts was required by Jan 1st 66 on cars and Jan 1st 68 on pickups. Useless knowledge 😀 Thanks for another one Mortske
Enjoyed the content 👍👍
There's something about a 283 with a powerslide low and go. I had a 65 for a while back in the 80s, even though you weren't going to break any land speed records, it sounded pretty radical going down the highway.
Lord Duff kinda has a ring to it 🍺👍🐕
Thanks for the info JIm!
Thank you for sharing and the appreciation to your subs
Thanks for watching!
My 1st Car was a 66' Chevy Belair (2) Dr. 283 (2) Barrel Powerglide.Manual Steering&Brakes
Man you always find the good stuff! I like all the 60's model impalas, but the '63 is my favorite for a few reasons and the '65 hardtop is my dream car to build and the '67 hardtop Is great as well.
Someone might wanna rebuild that 283..
If it were mine , Id sell it .
Those old chev small blocks are worth saving....for some ppl.
My dad had a 65 Impala with a 283.
Traded it in for a new 69 Impala with a 327.
My old man love both motors...
both are getting hard to come by anymore
@@MortskeRepair
If we knew then what we know now...
You better send that 283 to DD Speed Shop. He's gonna need it for his Biscayne !
haha
Just a tip: If you spill oil on your concrete, Keep a bag of cement handy and dust it over the spill you have mainly cleaned up and let it sit overnight, and sweep it up with a stiff broom.
Interesting
My dad hD shop in 60s,70s and to clean concrete, nothing works better than h2o and dry laundry soap, scrub it water will rinse it away, clean and simple 😀
Sell it to someone that loves it, because I would hate to see you lose the shop! Good luck with the bird hunt!
Happy Mortske Monday! Great video! Unfortunately you can't win 'em all. Was good to see you show what what the issue was. Loved the hunting content and I hope you and Laird Duff-a-lupagus get some ditch rats soon. Keep up the good work sir! 🍻😎
All hail Lord Duff! He seems to be happy about his new title.
Even though the interior need replacing, I would do one of 2 things: 1. Overhaul the current block and heads or 2. see about a remanufacture block and heads. Then fix the floors and get it a new pant job. In the long run, someone will be happy and proud to own the piece of history. It was built when I graduated high school. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos.
I’d do a shade tree rebuild, and just drive it. Great video, as always!
I think the next guy is going to get a great car! I’m with you on this! You gotta love it to put that much effort into getting it back on the road!
I would either sell it as is or repair this engine. Why bother with another engine big block or whatever. Thanks for taking it apart and showing us the deal. Happy bird hunting. Rich- NJ
Good morning Mortimer
howdy
Found your channel through OBS Chevy video's and been subbed for a couple months now, and you've quickly become one of my top 3 car UA-camrs, I dig the humor and references😂 also Duffs definitely my favorite copilot😂
Awesome, thank you!
no doubt he's min my top 2
That was a tough nut to crack. Didn't expect a broken valve but I guess they can't all run and drive, without a bunch more work anyway. Thanks for the video, really appreciate the time and effort!
Our pleasure!
Thanks for the memories my mom had a same one white paint with blue interior
Very cool!
No camel humps on the 283 from the factory. They used a 58cc head with 1.72 intake and a 1.50 exhaust. We used to open up the intakes to 1.94 and deck them to get about 55cc and use them on asphalt strictly stock engines.
Interesting
@@MortskeRepair The Power Pack heads on that 283 & with the 4 barrel gives her some more Horse Torques.
I'm definitely jealous you got a model A, hopefully one of these days I can get one and fix it up
Hope to see some video on the Model A coupe.I had a rodded 2dr sedan in the seventies. Sold it because the wife sad it was'nt safe. Should have dumpted the wife instead.
There are still many out there. You got to be looking if you want one
@@79tazman I bought my 31 Model A 2dr. in 1970.for 900 dollars. It was tagged, but rode like an ox-cart, and had dangerous bump-steer. I re-worked the steering and suspension, and drove it to work daily. Some thing similar would cost several times that today. That's a major hurdle now.
be a great start for someone to put back together or as a roller for parts good stuff as always 👍
Absolutely
Jeff Bradshaw just did a series on a 66 4 door Biscayne with a factory 396, if you don't know who Jeff is check out ElderlyIron.
Show us when you & Lord Duff snag some birdies!! Very entertaining-keep up the good work!!
Good solid 66 Chevy for some one(except for the ripped out frame-rail). Small-block are a dime-a-dozen, so with an engine swap, it will make a good project for some body.
Great point!
When you are working to unstuck a fairly common engine, say a 350. One of the car rescue guys, JW, might take an old dead starter. take the casing off. weld a big spare socket onto the shaft. You will get massive torque and you can even use power tools.
That block is nice. You can get a set of generic MIC aluminum heads for about 500 bucks. One of the rescue guys got almost 300hp out of a 307 that way. Any other solution would have to be much less. You could keep an eye open for a cheap set of heads that look OK. To just replace that one valve it would have to be out of a 283. Unless you have a dead one or know somebody that does it might be hard to source these days. Bandit solutions are interesting to watch. The price of these old cars, even 4 doors is going crazy. Running and driving it's probably worth 2500 bucks. It would be interesting to see what you realize from a project like this. Don't do anything fancy. Just make it safe and nothing falling off and let the next guy "restore" it.
For the floor. I have never seen a video of anyone doing it, but it occured to me a person could use cans for the metal. Small pieces of metal. Easy to shape and fold over itself. Cans are very good metal. A car floor has so many contours anyway. Paint it cheap. What would be the difference?
My day to day excitement, Mortske video's!!!!! 🤪😜😁 popcorn, check, coffee, check.... let's roll the video 💪
1:04:51 250 I6 + 4-speed manual + highway gears. That smallblock V8 would get overhauled and sold off to pay for the repower, and that Powerglide would get donated to Davy Jones where it belongs. Beyond that, some rust repair, air con retrofit, FM radio, and it's a sweet sedan.
My grandmother had a 66 with a 283 .Boy that car was a runner. If I had it I probably would out a big block in it.
The deep grinding noise when you turn the crank is very discerning,,, :-)
My father has a 66 SS. His first car. In the process of restore now. Digging it
Awesome
My grandpa used to work for Buick in the Detroit area. And he brought home a pleasure riser tool cabinet and had the advertisement talking about the pleasure riser shock absorbers as a kid I didn’t realize what pleasure riser meant. Lol!
Thanks Mortske, always great content, even if it is borked! Sorry a bit late! i've been on vacation - still catching up!
Owned many impala’s in 60s and 70s. Few caprices to. Easy to fix , fun to drive.
In early 1990 I found a 1966 2door hard top maroon impala in Mississippi in car trader magazine. It was a 283 3 speed in the floor with a bench seat. The car was in great shape. I bought it from the original owner’s son who was the executor of the old man’s will making me the second owner. Great car.
Sweet ride!
Most Noble Duke Mortske and Right Honorable Lord Duff!
On with the hunt!
I was like " what kinda vehicle is an 870?" then the realization lol , great to see Duff doin what comes natural
I was having the same thoughts.......and I have an 870 three feet from me.
haha
Hey Mortske! When someone says ‘Will it Run?’ in the title, the answer needs to be YES. The entertainment is seeing how you got it to run, and the satisfaction of seeing it run.
You can't win em all... This is reality.
@@MortskeRepair Its not really reality, it’s UA-cam! That’s supposed to be better than reality because reality is too ordinary. But I enjoy what you do.
I'm still waiting for you and Puddin to do another "Dual of the Datsun" vid!!! I swear I watched that vid like 10 times, it never gets old!!!!
Whole family can sit and rip darts in that unit! What a peach. Thanks mortske
I picked up a roller in Northern Texas. 2 door SS. 5 years to fully restore the body. Floorboards, trunk deck, and dropped in a 427 fully built. Candy apple red with black stripes. On the back is. Far from stock!
Discovered ahead and put rings and bearings in it. You got a fresh bowl Rapinoe is it in that car you got a personality you know what it is and you know what I’ll do.
The "Oh yeah " moment..then "Oh no" with the flathead was both sad and funny at the same time
All of the emotions
Great have something great to watch this evening
I hope one day you’ll find a ‘67 impala that’s my favorite year
It'd be nice to have. It's one of my wife's dream cars to own.
Mine too!
that's the coolest engine stand I've ever seen. Love the content man. Hi Duff, Lord Duff... a thousand apologies my liege
Good morning Mort, to bad about the 283, would like to have seen it run. But like you said, can't win them all. Great program buddy. 👍 BTW , OLD SPICE. lol
Watching a day late but the cold old Milwaukee don't care... awesome video
Well ya know dogs can hear great. Duffs not sleeping , he’s listening for intruders!!!❤😂 Love the work 👍
@ 21:12 always check your sbc's, could be a score, always loved the 300hp 327s
Got it for scrap value??? Oh well what a shame the motor is a boat anchor. But!!! the body could be braught back over the winter for a tin man with a motor . Thanks for your humor and wry wit ,always a great video on a cold monday , Weve already had our first snow ( six inches ) and a power failure just to make it a disaster . See you on the next one. Stu from Canada,,,
Thanks for watching and commenting Stuart!
My mom's 66 Impala had a 327 with a Quadrajet and Powerglide
Thank you for pulling the heads off

Broke a bunch to find a broken valve. I would flip it as well. And your right. It was not worth it to spend money on a pit.
Your so much better than D&D speed shop. Thank you for sharing Mortske! Hope you and duff get some birds.
Right on
Another great Monday vlog from Yourself and Lord Duff, when is that Impala coming???
Some day
I'm glad to see you used my idea for the boroscope in the cylinder and turning the crank
Congratulations to Duff on his new status!
Wow 🤔🤔🤔 Two door conversation 🤔 Oh sorry that's DD Speed Shop DD Speed Shop 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 No go hunting with Lord Duff 👍🏼🤪 Keep powering mate 🚀🚀
Tell Lord Duff Mortske I said congratulations!!
will do
rebuild the 283, its worth it. she could be a good cruiser. with a little work, you could build a street sleeper. I love those old sleds.
This is by far the most entertaining informative channel on UA-cam makes my monday. Thank u 4 all u do!

I'm the only that prefers ram horn exhaust manifolds over headers? Nice classic you scooped Morty!
I do!
Hahahahaha Well.........That's gong to end the day here at Mortske Repair!!!!

Awesome hunting and harvest shots.
I’d rebuild the ok 283 with a nice set of aluminum heads and cam

Long Live LORD DUFF!!! 😂😂🤣. And that is one heck of a bobcat rig in the opening scene.
Thanks for seeing this one through. I was puzzled by the clunk also :)
I have used Right guard for like 40 years.. if it anit broke don't fix it.. awesome show as always.. thank you..
I gave my friend 2 glass pack in highschool for his 90 f150. he chopped the exhaust off after the manifolds. then flex piped two pipes out the side. one on each side under the door and stuck those glass packs on the end. loudest thing I've ever been in.
Classy!
@@MortskeRepair oh we were extra fancy that day.
Great video glad you posted keep them coming thanks
Will do! Thanks for watching Donnie!
As usual, a very well put together video. Ram horn manifolds and a factory 4 barrel. All it needed was a set of double humps and that would have been worth saving. The engine at least. Better luck next time I guess. Keep up the great videos.
We had a 66 straight 6 three on the tree ,great car in the Montana winter no power to spin the tires so you could plow right through the snow .We had a 65 4 door nova 2 it was supposed to be a straight 6 with the tags saying it was a 6 cylinder factory car , but it came from the factory with a 283 4 barrel and that would move.
Awesome
