'In a Place of Miracles' Animatic (The Hunchback of Notre Dame Musical)

- This is the only HoND animatic that I made this year-as it was made by request from Florica Anderson, one of my subscribers. (Keep in mind, this doesn't mean I'm going to heed to every and any request that comes my way.) I had an overall good time re-acquainting myself with the creatively fun (as well as painfully tedious) process of making these-to say nothing of the problems that can arise out of trying to render them! XD
This song, similar to 'Someday', was originally written for the animated film, and is part of a scene that was ultimately deleted for some fairly obvious reasons (not to do with the quality of the song itself): • Video It was reworked in for the musical so that it can fit better with the flow of the story, and it's a very nice song that gives a scene showcasing the more humane parts of the gypsies (or rather Romani, as is more politically correct), after their whimsically macabre song about executing intruders. And in my case, this is the only animatic I've done to feature Clopin, who is a fan favorite. The downside to this song is that this is the part of the story where poor Quasimodo gets his heart broken.
This video is not sponsored. This video was made for non-profit purposes, as I do not own the rights to the music or the character designs. This was all a fan project made out of love for the animated film and the musical.

I remember as a kid, Quasimodo. I walked up to a disabled person & gave him a hug. I now work with people with various disabilities.
If Disney ever makes a live action remake,
They better add this. That’d be a miracle
I'm kind of hoping they combine the Disney movie and the stage musical a little.
This is the only movie I want them to remake.

It's interesting that in most adaptation esmeralda is a gypsy but in the book she's "adopted " by them. (Tecnically they kidnaped her)
Also worth noting, I feel, is a small nod to the original novel at 0:57 with the guy handling a bell manequin that is used to test pick-pocketing skills on newcomers to the Romani culture.
Also with noting, not all Romani were pickpots. Very dangerous to equate such a thing to an entire culture. Even this movie shows that mentality is unhealthy.

So glad I found the musical version of HoND - one of the best Disney's in my opinion, for certain reasons. This song makes me bawl my eyes out everytime. The longing for a place to belong, a place of freedom, somewhere where we can love and be loved and live in realized hope. Just beautiful and heart-breaking. Thanks!
“In a Place of Miracles” was not one of the stage play songs that particularly stood out to me, for some reason. So I do not have much to say about the song itself, other than how I like the Heaven’s Light reprise from the animated film being incorporated into it. Nonetheless, the visuals do once again add some nice atmosphere and made it interesting to check the song out again.

Your animation is lovely, but as to the song itself I prefer the deleted scene version from the film. This version is hard to follow due to Quasimodo singing his own song in the background. The only part I kinda like is the gypsies singing about finding somewhere they'll be welcome.
The deleted scene version is sappy and has a unicorn in it.
This is far superior.

He was singing a reprise to Heaven’s Light, which in this case, talks about his heartbreak.
Fun fact: this was the deleted song in the movie because the creators thought it was disconnected with the story.
Yup. And it's not hard to see why. It was a song where they were all celebrating being together, apparently having forgotten the sense of urgency of Frollo attacking at dawn. The way it was reworked in for the musical makes much more sense, and makes the song better for it, as it gives a sense of solemness at the prospect of the Romas having to leave, while still retaining the theme of togetherness.
