I laughed at that! I keep imagining Quasimoto coming up to Esmeralda and Phoebus Who are in love, Quasimodo comes up to both of them and embraces them both and then start singing and they both try to comfort him. They take him away with them and they all leave France together.
I started tearing up when I actually listened to Quasimodo's lyrics, everyone is feeling hopeful for the future but Quasimodo has never felt more alone
agree, kinda looking back at this play i thought it was kind of messed up. they legit forgot about poor quasi. he has been abused his whole life by that monster frollo, who because of neglect led him to a bad hunchback at age 20 and hardly able to speak and hard of hearing. They are just going to leave him behind to be abused the rest of his life, i don't think any of the characters brought him up again in the play. Now i know they are on the run but couldn't they have told him to come with them like the movie. makes you think did they ever truly care for him or was he just the deformed freak who was a last resort to help phebos. You would think the gypsy's would show pitty on him since they were hated like him.
he was abused by frollo and Esmeralda the only person Who ever cared four him betrayed him by falling in love with someone else. makes me think did they truly care about quasi? or did they use him for someone else to fall in love with Esmeralda? like, did she only befriend him so she could fall in love? at least in the movie, that she did fall in love with someone else she asked if he should come with her to evacuate France. though he declined, at least she cared for him. hear, she doesn’t do that so I’m starting to question did she really care for the man? o
@@theenergetichopecat7006 but Esmerelda did not feel for Quasi like that. It's not a betrayal, it's a friendship, she's not obligated to love him. I kind of like how this is played in the animated one a bit more because they juxtapose Quasi's love vs Frollo's lust. Quasi sees her as an angel, propping her up on a pedestal as something to be revered, which is unfair for her. Frollo sees her as an object to possess, and a demon, which is horrifying. Both do not see her as a person, though. One is less than, one is more than. Quasi, however, eventually grows as he realizes Esmerelda is a human and she has a freedom to choose. Sadly she did not choose him. It hurts but he discovers the love of the people to accept him and learns to respect Esmerelda's wishes. The play downplayed the love aspect, and focused more on racial genocide of a people and how it can manifest into horror. But leaves us with a glimmer of hope when we see the townspeople taking on Quasi's form at the ending to demonstrate there can be a better tomorrow, but lamenting that it is sometimes paved in the blood of the good.
Hearing Clopin's verse makes you feel something. That he has to say "Again, must roam" makes you have to wonder how often they've had to uproot everything to run.
yeah and take into account that he is in love with his Esmeralda his woman is in love with someone else! When he starts singing it just breaks my heart because he knows what’s going on and he is all on his own! He loves to pretend but when reality slaps him! When it slapped him, he is depressed!
+ Marni Stone Makes you wish that you could somehow pair the two up. They're both musical characters based off on Victor Hugo novel characters. There's already something in common with the both of them, besides the fact they both got friend-zoned real bad.
+ lunarlena Okay that is a good question to ask. Taking place in the same country, and being created by the same author probably won't being enough. They both do come from different time periods in France too, so that can make it a bit a harder to tell for sure.
yes! His voice when he belts out the word stone and hold it for a long long time! I guess Quasimodo loves the belt out every single one of his lyrics! His voice is so loud in this musical. I love it! And it makes him sound older.
This song leaves you an aching mess. First your heart's rubbed raw with Quasimodo's pain of unrequited love (ouch, we've all been there, buddy), and then it's stabbed straight through with the "Romanis again must roam" line. Gods damn, Disney, what are you doing?
And Quasimodo has a way of making you feel his pain! His voice is so emotional sometimes! You just wanna give the guy a big hug don’t you? I feel the same way as well.
@@theenergetichopecat7006 Well, Walt Disney did say, "For every laugh, there should be a tear." His personal opinion on how tearjerking and heartwarming moments should be equally balanced.

I saw the show at La Jolla Playhouse and when that line came up my heart winced at how poignant and still sadly true it is. This was immediately followed by me feeling completely inadequate as a writer in the presence of such a perfectly-worded lyric. Seriously, Stephen Schwartz is a bloody genius.
Because of how our stage was set, the gypsies were looking at each other before going on stage close to the end of this song. The last night was awful because we all were listening and UNDERSTOOD. This entire experience was a miracle in itself. Being Clopin was an absolute honor and would love to be in this production again
I freaking miss being in theater. I still remember having like double vision at the end of the play, literally my brain seeing what was happening in front of me but also superimposed real walls, a real city, and a wild tangle of emotions. I remember esmeralda's death bringing actual tears to my eyes. Every night, and even some of the days leading up to opening night. I remember feeling giddy from the tavern scene, feeling fear when i was "caught" as the pickpocket, the determination and frustration in the esmeralda song, and all of that. When watching this on stage I started bawling when Quasimodo started singing. It hurt so bad to see him watching the only person who cares about him with someone else. Q,-Q,
yeah it hurts my heart to see his friend Esmeralda with somebody else because she was the only person who truly cared for him and yet she found love with someone else. And he was on his own. He is the man who is forever alone.
I did remember this was a song that was cut out of the film, because they felt the scene was focusing too much on Pheobus and Esmerelda than on Quasimodo. Though it looks like they fixed it by placing the reprise of Heaven's Light.
There's still a video of the deleted scene available on UA-cam. Pretty much everyone in the comments for it is talking about how sappy it was (and also how it didn't make much sense since the gypsies were all just dancing and enjoying themselves even though Frollo was coming), and about half of the comments also talk about how it was fixed in the musical since instead of partying, the gypsies are still preparing to leave.
they fixed it by putting Quasimodo‘s lament in the song it works! If there is to be a live action remake of this film they should put this song in along with the heavens light reprise within the song. Genius. This is a genius idea the song should be in the movie. The way it is no changes. And it works too.
yes when he starts singing he runs to Esmeralda and takes her In his arms and holds her as he sings. I don’t know why that image always pops into my head. My brain is crazy.
My school is putting on this show and I’m a freshman new to acting and this is the first scene where I’ve ever felt like I was really my character and felt the real emotions that they would feel
It was technically written in the 90s when the movie was being made but they ultimately shelved it until this stage version so it still retains that classic Disney Renaissance sound.
This would've made a good song to place after "A Guy Like You." Especially when Esmeralda tends Pheobus' wounds: *Esmeralda:* You're either the single bravest soldier I've ever met... or the craziest. *Phoebus:* _Ex_-soldier, remember? Why is it, whenever we meet, I end up bleeding? *Esmeralda:* You're lucky. That arrow almost missed your heart. *Phoebus:* I'm not so sure it _didn't._ And just when the feels go up, the whinnying of Frollo's horse is heard in the distance. That means it's time for the Gypsy to scram and for Quasi to "stash the stiff."
DarthWill3 i think it would have be perfect when Phoebus is kissing Esmeralda, Quasimodo is lokking away and then (in Disney film) starts a piece of heaven light
I know, the captain thinks his friend for his help and then says without his help I would never have found my way here. And then here we are nearly strangers from two worlds that I’ve rarely met in the song starts. And then it has Quasimodo lamenting about how he will never be loved. And the song would be the same as it is in a musical.
"Romanis again must roam.. Could there be a country kinder to our race?" As a second generation immigrant, I've never really felt I belong anywhere really. Not in the country I was born and raised in and definitely not in the country where my parents came from. I'm a stranger in both worlds.
THATS IT PEOPLE!! THATS THE END OF THE MUSICAL PHOEBUS AND ESMERALDA ESCAPE WITH THE GYPSIES QUASIMODO STAYS CONTENT WITH HIS MEMORIES OF HER AND THE OUTSIDE WORLD THIS IS TOTALLY THE END
No, Quasimodo escape with the gypsies together, and he found his true love at last (another gypsy girl)!! that's the end.😍😍 ps: no, im not american and my english isnt good. sorry :)
@ Esmeralda, yes! That’s what I was thinking. Quasimodo leaves with Esmeralda and goes to a new cord of miracles with her. Esmeralda and her people escape, Quasimodo find true love with Esmeralda, and her boyfriend find true love with someone else, judge Frolo works in the church as the Archdeacon, he continues his job as if nothing happened. Everybody in Paris goes back to being normal, and everyone lives happily ever after, but it’s kind of sad because now Quasimodo has to leave his home and at the church, but at least he’s got friends now. Everyone lives tragically but happily ever after the end. I love that ending! I wish the musical had that ending instead of the books ending. The books ending makes me wanna cry. This ending to hunchback is almost like a fiddler on the roof kind of ending. Do you know how in fiddler, everybody leaves? Because they were persecuted, same thing with the hunchback of Notre Dame, same ending. And I think it would be much much much better than everybody dying in the end.
Quasi i alway like him send i was a little kids and they sould come out with more play like this one maybe make a movie out of the musical that will be very cool
I remember when I first watched this musical I audibly said "this feels out of place and uncomfy" then quasi started singing and it all made sense. Its supposed to feel out of place
For people saying how messed up it was that Phobus, Esmeralda and The other gypsies forget about Quasimodo and act like he doesn’t matter. That’s cause their minds and hearts were elsewhere I’m sure if Frollo hadn’t shown up after, then Esmeralda and Phobos would’ve came back down to earth and invited Quasi to come with them. If not then they are just horrible people.
The directors thought it took the spotlight from Quasimodo and the central conflict. Since it's more a ballad for Phoebus and Esme's love, the had to cut it for diverting too much from the story, I heard.
Andrea Avalos But it'd be so cool to have this Les Mis-esque love triangle, where the love song isn't about the main character. I know that the film came out 20 years ago, but I'd still really like to see this animated by Disney.
Well, if they had worked it into this version it would have worked. But the original version was WAY longer get and didn't include Quasimodo's lyrics or the stuff about racism. Today THIS version would fit seemlessly into the film right after Phoebus tells Esmeralda that Quasimodo led them to the court of miracles just before frollo shows up.
“Romani again must roam…could there be a country kinder to quod race?” Godddammit, of course Stephen Sondheim, member of the tribe, part of the Jewish diaspora, always moving, never settled or safe, longing for a place kinder, for something that lasts,,,,of COURSE he would know how to articulate this perfectly
Starwars101 it was taken from the Disney film because they felt that it took focus off of Quasi and they decided not to do that. I personally think that they could have left the song in the movie considering it would have not taken much focus off Quasi. I know I would have still loved it just the same
This is literally a heart full of love gender swapped! Somebody pointed this out in the UA-cam comments but I’m gonna say it again literally look a heart full of love gender swapped. We have two people in love we have one person who’s gonna die alone and we have one person who thinks that they again must go somewhere else because they’re being treated badly and entire species of people. Their entire species of people are being treated badly so they must go or start a revolution. I said this before and I should say it now. This is like Disney’s Les Miserables. Quasimodo is the person who’s gonna be forever alone! And my heart breaks whenever I hear his lyrics about being alone, he knows Esmeralda doesn’t truly love him back even though he loves her. He knows she’s in love with someone else and it just shatters him completely. And he sings about it. His voice is so resonant and it’s very very beautiful. But his lyrics are so sad! Quasimodo is a tragic hero the most tragic hero that you can ever think of can come across Disney’s repertoire. But at the same time that’s why I love him so much!
Sorry. But all i hear is Esmeralda and Quasimodo singing, for me, THEY'RE the REAL LOVERS. Phoebus will never deserve her, but Quasi does. Quasiralda 😍😍💚❤
yes they deserve one another I love them so much! I would not want anything bad happening to them! They are so fun to watch, and they deserve each other! They should’ve gotten together instead of having that other guy get with Esmeralda and marry her! @ Esmeralda, I agree with your comment 100%, they are the real lovers! They were both outed and outcast and for no reason, and they ended up meeting each other! Why can’t they be together!
i’ll admit, i believe the first half of this song (with context from the show) is probably the weakest point. in the show, phoebus and esmeralda have only three interactions. in the cathedral, where esmeralda is more hostile. in the tavern, where they have a minimal conversation before they decide to kiss. they never really showed /interest/ in each other, so why do they suddenly have a blossoming romance? i still love this song, don’t get me wrong - i couldn’t hate one single song in this show. but, the first half is just sort of weak in my eyes.
Yeah I always thought that Quasi got screwed in this story. Finds the first person who just might love him and she just goes and friend zones him and goes off with the solider COME ON ESMERELDA!
Phoebus and Esmeralda: We are in love!!!
Quasi: I'm gonna die alone...
Clopin: RACISM!!!!!
LOL I laughed too hard
Banana
Um ok
Marius and Cosette: we are in love
Eponine: I'm on my own :(

Will we find a haven once more?
Where we'll be

yeah it hurts my heart to see his friend Esmeralda with somebody else because she was the only person who truly cared for him and yet she found love with someone else. And he was on his own. He is the man who is forever alone.
"Who looks both laughable and frightening" is the saddest fucking part of this musical
the song was originally taken from the deleted scene from the movie there's a video on UA-cam you guys check it out
That and Someday.
@@BeaufortRyan Someday was meant as a solo for Esmeralda. According to (I think it was) Alan Menken, the song was too emotional for the film.
Right when Esmeralda sings “where the blind can see...” I cry to myself preparing for the rest of the song
And it works too.
my school is doing this musical and everytime we do this song i cant help but cry while singing. such a beautiful song and an underrated musical
Further proof that Alan Menken is magical
1:45 gets me every time *internally dies, while crying, while also being given life*
I started crying at Quasi's part but I lost it more at Clopin's "..kinder to our race" The way his voice kinda breaks ;-;
This is honestly such an underrated song
When Quasi starts to sing ;-;
yes when he starts singing he runs to Esmeralda and takes her In his arms and holds her as he sings. I don’t know why that image always pops into my head. My brain is crazy.
i’ve always imagined that. and then Phoebus comes over to them and puts his arms around them both and sings. n
Praying for paris and her people and for Notre Dame
2:23. So sad, but love the song!!!
an amazing trio.
The final “mi-ra-cles” is the same note progression as the final “bring him home” if anyone cares.
I didn’t know that! That’s cool. As someone with no musical talent, I still think things like that are interesting lol
@@alligatorinavest Once you start noticing things like that you can’t stop 😅
Y'all sleeping on Esmeralda's "All this time I've been certain that my life would be spent alone, and once more, I've pretended not to care."
My school is putting on this show and I’m a freshman new to acting and this is the first scene where I’ve ever felt like I was really my character and felt the real emotions that they would feel
I love this song. It has an 80s retro feel to it.
It was technically written in the 90s when the movie was being made but they ultimately shelved it until this stage version so it still retains that classic Disney Renaissance sound.
This would've made a good song to place after "A Guy Like You." Especially when Esmeralda tends Pheobus' wounds:
*Esmeralda:* You're either the single bravest soldier I've ever met... or the craziest.
*Phoebus:* _Ex_-soldier, remember? Why is it, whenever we meet, I end up bleeding?
*Esmeralda:* You're lucky. That arrow almost missed your heart.
*Phoebus:* I'm not so sure it _didn't._
And just when the feels go up, the whinnying of Frollo's horse is heard in the distance.
And the song would be the same as it is in a musical.
bro who hurt victor hugo so much that he could write two characters like eponine and quasimodo
That’s a great question. Only someone who knows that kind of pain can express it like that.
This song makes me sad not only for quasi but also for the Romani’s and their mistreatment
Everytime I listen to this soundtrack, it makes me feel like this would do great on broadway.
Underrated song
Where's my place of miracles?
What does this sound like? OH RIGHT A HEART FULL OF LOVE LITERALLY BALLING
YEAAH! FUCKING THANK YOU, ALAN! I DIDN'T NEED MY HEART ANYWAY!
"Romanis again must roam.. Could there be a country kinder to our race?"
As a second generation immigrant, I've never really felt I belong anywhere really.
Not in the country I was born and raised in and definitely not in the country where my parents came from.
I'm a stranger in both worlds.
Same, I’m third gen.
THATS IT PEOPLE!!
THATS THE END OF THE MUSICAL
PHOEBUS AND ESMERALDA ESCAPE WITH THE GYPSIES
QUASIMODO STAYS CONTENT WITH HIS MEMORIES OF HER AND THE OUTSIDE WORLD
THIS IS TOTALLY THE END
No, Quasimodo escape with the gypsies together, and he found his true love at last (another gypsy girl)!!
that's the end.😍😍
ps: no, im not american and my english isnt good. sorry :)
@@mieshocked1450 it was a better end than i could have ever written
@@mikirin3349 thanks, but who made this musical want us to cry until we die 😔
@@mieshocked1450 fr
It’s okay I’m just violently sobbing
Very “all I ask of you” and the reprise
More like A Heart Full of Love of Les Mis...
1:15 is where i’m sold
Thank God they rewrote this music to this musical
The original is really out of place
I remember when I first watched this musical I audibly said "this feels out of place and uncomfy" then quasi started singing and it all made sense. Its supposed to feel out of place
In the deleted scene, Quasimodo imagined himself undeformed and he looked practically normal! I guess that's what he was supposed to look like. :-(
Quasi's lyrics
It's a cut song from the animated movie!
Quasimodo parts are so heartbreaking omg
Why does this song remind me of "A Heart Full of Love" from Les Miserables
For people saying how messed up it was that Phobus, Esmeralda and The other gypsies forget about Quasimodo and act like he doesn’t matter.
That’s cause their minds and hearts were elsewhere I’m sure if Frollo hadn’t shown up after, then Esmeralda and Phobos would’ve came back down to earth and invited Quasi to come with them. If not then they are just horrible people.
Quasi has my life I’m the very sad third wheel because my bestie took my crush and I’m heartbroken and a third wheel
How and why was this cut from the original movie?
The directors thought it took the spotlight from Quasimodo and the central conflict. Since it's more a ballad for Phoebus and Esme's love, the had to cut it for diverting too much from the story, I heard.
Andrea Avalos But it'd be so cool to have this Les Mis-esque love triangle, where the love song isn't about the main character. I know that the film came out 20 years ago, but I'd still really like to see this animated by Disney.
I will never understand it
Well, if they had worked it into this version it would have worked. But the original version was WAY longer get and didn't include Quasimodo's lyrics or the stuff about racism. Today THIS version would fit seemlessly into the film right after Phoebus tells Esmeralda that Quasimodo led them to the court of miracles just before frollo shows up.
It wasn't cut, it just wasnt made
Can't believe they cut this song out of the movie 😡
“Romani again must roam…could there be a country kinder to quod race?”
Godddammit, of course Stephen Sondheim, member of the tribe, part of the Jewish diaspora, always moving, never settled or safe, longing for a place kinder, for something that lasts,,,,of COURSE he would know how to articulate this perfectly
It was written by Stephen Schwartz.
Why was this song deleted from the Disney film?
Starwars101 it was taken from the Disney film because they felt that it took focus off of Quasi and they decided not to do that. I personally think that they could have left the song in the movie considering it would have not taken much focus off Quasi. I know I would have still loved it just the same
@@zephyrmartin8824 have you heard it that makes guy like you (almost) better
@@theenergetichopecat7006 lmao yes they have chemestry, unlike Esmeralda and Phoebus
This is just ‘A Heart Full of Love’ with the genders reversed O.O
i’ll admit, i believe the first half of this song (with context from the show) is probably the weakest point. in the show, phoebus and esmeralda have only three interactions. in the cathedral, where esmeralda is more hostile. in the tavern, where they have a minimal conversation before they decide to kiss. they never really showed /interest/ in each other, so why do they suddenly have a blossoming romance? i still love this song, don’t get me wrong - i couldn’t hate one single song in this show. but, the first half is just sort of weak in my eyes.
That's fair.
...but then Clopin shows up.
Yeah I always thought that Quasi got screwed in this story. Finds the first person who just might love him and she just goes and friend zones him and goes off with the solider COME ON ESMERELDA!
