One of the greatest bands (band leaders) to showcase the Brecker Bros. the whole band is killer too. This Heavy Metal Bebop era is my favourite Michael Brecker period. Thanks so much for posting.
Halelujah! Bob Moses surely brings us to the Promised Land with how he tunes and operates his kit... He's making that little (18''?) Sonor setup sound like Neil Peart on a world tour...- A;so the Galper MDing ,arks him out as the successor to Horace Siler... that tempo is easy for his alternate hands style... Superb post I keep coming back to
now I know why every jazz drummers story's got bob moses in it. this is the first solo I've ever heard from him. I'm on tenor so I came to the vid for brecker but damn... I didn't realise this bob moses shaped so much of what I hear from the drummer at the jazz club when their heavy on the set. he contributed ALOT!
Wow! This is so fucking great!!! Great to see old friends Mike Brecker and Bobby Moses in full attack mode. Randy too. Hal put together a wailing ensemble.
This video is so cool to see Michael Brecker playing on a Otto link metal mouthpiece. I knew he did but I had never saw any video's of him playing on a link.
Malcolm 'Molly' Duncan purportedly gave that double ring Link mouthpiece to Mike Brecker. I wonder what tip size it was and where it is now? It is not with the archived material, whatever it sounds great, the missing funky Brecker Link.
I've heard Bob Moses on Pat Metheny's record and have CDs where he plays with Emily Remler. Bob Moses always sounds smore like a percussionist than a drummer.
At 27-/28-years of age, Mike was already a "killer" tenor Jazzician, although not quite yet emerged in the spirituality and nuances of 'Trane. Later, having accomplished that, Michael became his "own" man - tonally and stylistically. He, however, had never abandoned the 'Trane in him, entirely. But why would he have? How could he have? John was always present in and within his "Trane" of thoughts. Voila the Band! All *****
That is some hot shit music. Sophisticated syncopated to an incredible lebel of timing and perfection. Thanx! Bet you didn't know I played the trombone from 8 yrs. Old and still have a silver slide trombone ? And Whitson was the first chair trumpet and was the best trumpet player around and then blew it off to become world class athlete. The guy who played for Cadillac Bob was 2nd chair behind Don Juan.
I was in the audience that night and remember the sax-scene in Berlin was shaken profoundly by what they witnessed from that skinny kid from NYC. This is a rare example about Michaels excellent playing before the BreckerBrothers-boom while, as Bill Milkowskys new bio points out, Michael was involved in substance abuse.
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had heard them sooner!

An Otto Link

Normally, a long drum solo will get you bored. Not this time.
