"Because everyone is charmed by Carlisle."
It's seriously my head-canon that that's his power. He's Charming. No one can not like him, no matter what he does. He makes people think good of him.

I think she would have done so much better to portray vampires as the ultimate morally grey character. They're both at certain times & take the view of vampires killing & eating humans as what it really is; the food chain. If she had made her mythos where they could die from starving to death from lack of blood, it would have but the vampires in the grey area of the morality scale. It would have made the individual stories of each vampire that more compelling all because of that struggle from going from one species to another & them having their view point on morality & survival changing. She would have been presenting them as both monsters & not monsters at the same time by grappling with that transition & that view point. But, Smeyer isn't that intelligent & she's sure as hell too lazy to do such a thing. Instead, she wants to fit the ones who are actually the good guys with a black hat all because they're telling her vampires what to do.

"We don't even know how old these people are, [...] we know about the Romanians". It's Meyer, she's probably implying hat these primitive people don't have numbers.

Of course! Didn't you know that numbers were invented by the Americans? Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Smeyers believed that...

The outfits that the Amazons are dressed in look more like tribal Africa than South American Natives. Way to go, Smeyer.
Also, as someone on the comm mentioned, maybe SMeyer wanted the Amazons from the Rainforest to be like the Amazons from Classical mythology. Way to go, SMeyer.
Naww, the Amazons wouldn't be the spirits that protect their tribes. That would make it so that the Meyerpires actually give damn about the lowly mortals.

Normally I don't care about causing offense in fiction, but in this case... holy shit. Smeyers has to be one of the most racist, sexist shitty writers out there. :-/

Another problem, in my opinion, is that Meyer never does anything to make the humans UNsympathetic. Most of them are pretty normal people, even if they are caricatures. So to say that the vampires are in the right to commit these horrible acts is even more disturbing.

If it was in the 1940's then Jasper wouldn't have been with them. He and Alice joined the Cullens in 1950.
Also, we are animals. We're just different.

There is one more thing about these Amazons: the actors are not South American natives, at all. If they have some ancestry in that direction, it was a while ago. Furthermore that one illusionists is another example as to how Meyer does not realize how powerful a vampire is. The illusionist would be capable of doing the same thing as Alec would with his power.

The actress playing the South American vampire with the straight hair - the illusionist, actually - is actually a British actress and a regular on the English soap opera Eastenders.

Most of the actors were American or British.

TruthFan I could say that this is surprising, but that would be a lie.

I've seen StormFront posts that were less offensive than this bio.

Honestly, when I first read about these vampires I just assumed Meyer had assumed:
Amazon Warrior Women ie. Queen Otrera and co. = Amazon Rainforest
    You FAIL, Meyer!

honestly didn't think it was possible but I found daenarys and drogo's darthraki wedding in season one of game of thrones was less offensive than the portaryalof these South American natives

One of the first Das Sporking posts I saw was the one that talked about the vampires eating babies. I just... how didn't she notice? HOW?! *blue screen of death*

I think she's only done with this part of the Guide. I'm pretty sure she's going to finish the entire thing once she's done with BD.

I do indeed have a "go humanity" with my writing. I outright portray a vampire's life as having less inherent worth than a human's. I HATE it whenever works of fiction portray their supe of choice being better than humans (vampires, Meyerpires, Greek gods, etc.), so you find the OPPOSITE of that in my works.

    • @everlastingdragon4520

I personally do dislike works portraying humans as super special, but even then I don't put down humanity. At worst, I usually have humans end up stuck in a conflict they didn't ask for because this one dragon/demon/whatever is a prick.

The Romanian coven also had a very stereotypical look to them also. From the thick heavy accents and the circus act clothing. I don't see you complain about that? My guess is that SM wanted her audience to get an idea as to how old and from what culture they were from. Which was very stereotypical. It added a bit of mystery and interest to the characters. I was not offended by the Amazon coven. She did a good job with finding the right actors. But, I would have liked more history on their origins and tribe though.

If you mean their appearance in the movie, back when Mervin reviewed the Romanians the movie version of them hasn't appeared yet.
