- I'M BACK! Sort of. These next few profiles are going to be supplementing my on-going Breaking Dawn recap over on the community I manage. Why bother recapping anything if you aren't going to be as thorough as possible, eh?

Meyer does know how to make a good villain. The problem is that she adores the bad guys (Bella, the Cullens, the Werewolves, etc.) and malines the good guys (the Volturi and Leah)! She refuses to give common inches to character that are obviously in the right.
It's even more blatant in The Host when she demands that we love the genocidal Souls over the subjugated humans, all while ignoring the all the other species they destroyed!
Hey merv, I know this is very late but what happened to doing James, Victoria and Laurant's profile? Did something happen?
You keep giving me more reasons to hate Twilight. I didn't think that was possible. I never would have picked up on that Eleazor fail, and such a big fail it was! This shit cracks me up. xD
I have a question Mervin: why can't Meyer make actual good guys? Why are all her "good" guys monsters?
I recall writing about characters who were, in hindsight, obsessed with sex when I was in my teens because it was adult and edgy and mature. Now, I think one of the biggest signs of immaturity is an obsession with sex and adult themes.
It's completely understandable in a 14-year old fanfic author, but in a 30+ mother of three(?) ... I don't know and I don't want to speculate.
I can buy taking Tanya and her 'sisters' longer to adjust to the animal blood diet. They need to wean themselves off human blood and onto animal blood but there would be times when they'd crave it and give in to those cravings.
I did always wonder about why people called Meyer an idiot for the 'vegetarian vampire' thing. It made sense to me. Good call there Merv.
I'm sorry, but if these people were really born in 1000 A.D., they should be much shorter that 5'5''-6''
There was no independent Slovakia until 20th century. The Slovak nationalist movement is like... 18th century thing.
It makes no sense for them to be "Slovak". They don't identify as such. And they have Russian names. I guess Smeyer randomly poked into a globe and picked a country.
When a fanfic writer manages to write better and more sympathetic heroic monster characters who have done bad things than a published author...

Modern Slovakia was technically part of Hungary from the 11th century until the end of WWI.
Vasili is apparently a variant of Vasiliy, the Russian form of Basil.
The Denalis sexing guys to death reminds me of True Facts About the Mantis. "Stay alive? Get laid. Stay alive? Get laid."

And I thought the southern vamp stuff was around the American Civil War. Or am I just confused?
Cool, I never thought I would get to call my country's proud tradition of having bar brawls that consist exclusively of bitch slapping a martial art. :-)

Well, according to Wikipedia, anyway.
Technically "martial arts" can apply to any form of combat. In addition, pretty much every race and country on the planet has its own form of combat arts. The Irish have a form of martial arts based around stickfighting. Kate could easily have taken up whatever they had.
The tae kwon do student in me insisted I point that out. It's possible I misunderstood your headdesking.

You are not confused--the Southern Vampire Wars are still on-going. However, by the time of the Civil War, they had calmed down to the point that the Volturi ignored them. They were intense well before the Civil War, but not during.

And the Goddamned Hole makes a reappearance! 'Cause everyone so missed that thing.
Another thing is that once again she really does a bad job of making the Volturi into villains. Even if you judge their actions based on Meyerpire morality, the law against Immortal Children is still very reasonable. They only killed Sasha for breaking that one law and let the others live because they had nothing to do with it. These are not the actions of villains.

I wonder why do they drink blood in the first place? They have no metabolism and don't starve to death, and apparently not having blood don't affect their abilities in any way or form so what is it contributing to? what is it sustaining??
