- Kindle. She is a good CO I guess (not in ethics, though). ...I just realized Kindle is also the name of those electronical things. Weird, eh? Her theme certainly is unique and I like it.
I only realized how useful Kindle can be now that I'm playing DS again. She packs a punch on buildings! Although, I always knew Urban Blight was ANNOYING!
Well, enjoy the music!

@@MrMoron-qn5rx Well, Kindle, you sure are an odd woman, but you fight a good battle.
HELP!!! THE CITIES ARE GOING THROUGH A REVOLUTION!!
No, Von Bolt, that’s just the Urban Blight.
HELP, HEEEELLLLLPPPPPPP!!!
Fun fact: Candy/Kindle is French, in the French version her CO power is called 'révolution' .
So every time she pops urban blight it's a revolution in every city. AW devs were well versed in French memes it would seem.
or a vague historical awareness of their extremely bloody history, yeah
Wonder if the CO power had a less.. child-friendly name in the West during development before being named Urban Blight

You know youtube hyper censors comments now, right?
"Look at all that Urban Blight that isn't there." Kindle after Sasha used her CO power
@Aziria Shingen I was trying to make a Phineas and Ferb reference.
Let's be real. *"Urban Blight"* is probably one of the best names for a CO power yet. It just feels so evocative. She's a high ranking socialite, clearly unconcerned with the "commoners" who make up most of the city. Yet she's also clearly poised and knowledgeable on what makes cities, and especially their people, tick. I didn't think of it until reading another comment on here, but her Urban Blight can be expressed as her manipulating politics and people, feeding on their urban decay, until they riot and attack their occupants. Perhaps she is targeting the inevitable urban decay that happens in poorly managed cities. Empty homes, trashed streets, angry people ready to violently attack those they believe are their oppressors. This decay, in fact, blight she emphasises on the cities is also representative of Black Hole's plans to drain the planet, of which she is instrumental in due to her rank in the Bolt Guard. It's flavourful, a representation of not only Kindle but even Black Hole.
Combine this with her music, which is bleak and feels very urban. It's not a simple battle melody like say, Jake. It's complex, it feels bleak and depressing, yet also high and upbeat. That specific instrument, which you can hear at 0:17 (you know the one) is the most magnificent part. It feels like you're listening to a dystopian mega-city, a mega-city of which Kindle would clearly be a high ranking member, apathetic to the struggles of the common people, much like how she acts. Yet when a threat to her power comes, she will manipulate the people into rioting against them.
Overall, Kindle is one of my absolute favourite COs from this perspective.
Or you know, she rallies her simps to make your life worse
That's a good interpretation of it. Playing off manipulating people in cities, if I could make my own CO, it'd be a guy who's rebelling against Black Hole, turning citizens into fighters. His regular power would turn two random enemy properties neutral and give a mediocre boost to attack and defensive power, but his super CO power would instantly turn two random enemy-owned properties to his side and have a much bigger stat boost, both of these obviously excluding HQ buildings. I had the idea of calling his power "Sabotage" or something, but the super power would be called "Uprising". His ground units would get a 10% firepower boost on terrain with 2 or more stars, but 10% firepower reduction on terrain with 1 or no stars to emphasize a guerrilla war, and enemies that go onto his properties take 1 damage per turn to emphasize active, violent resistance against Black Hole. I wish there was a way to design CO's and use them in custom games.
@@JohnnyJohnJohnson If I may, better names for that second power would be 'Open Revolt'.
Could be, Nintendo games have often hidden meanings and layers... However she might just have some special forces or snipers units ready to make traps and ambushes in cities
@@java20422 I prefer my interpretation personally, but yeah, it could just be snipers.
We live in a society.
In a High Society
I love how hopeless this theme sounds, it just lets you know kindle is a cold hearted ruthless foe that means business and won’t hesitate to bury you if she gets a chance
Kindle is fabulous.
Specially her Alt costume
Ya
Why does her attitude remind me of Kagura from Inuyasha though?
Actually, if Kindle has a voice actor in the Advance Wars: Dual Strike Remaster like Reboot Camp it should be whoever voiced her. I don't remember her name but she would be PERFECT for the role.
Just make her sound more spoiled, snarky and make her have a *slight* French accent.
I hope AWDS gets remade next. This song would sound absolutely fantastic with a modern remix.
I really don't want to find out how WayForward's composers would butcher this theme in particular. It already has so much going on and is easily the most sophisticated of Dual Strike's music along with "It's a Wrap!", it doesn't need much more than a new paintjob (higher quality instrumentation and real instruments rather than the soundfont replicants of them).
I fear it might get the Hawke treatment and lose a lot of its intensity tbh.
Aww man, my favorite ost in the whole franchise. I love that electro industrial style with an oriental touch
Dubai music
Couldn't tell you how many times I went in for a final push on the enemy base holing up in all their surrounding cities completely forgetting which CO I was playing against.
That jingle at the start is the perfect turn opener.
Her casual outfit looks so much better especially the hair :D
This song always evokes the idea in my head of those tacky megaprojects that oil barons love building like Dubai or whatever the fuck The Line is
You know, I think I realize why kindles theme is my favorite of the new black hole cos from dual strike. Koal and jugger have good themes don’t get me wrong, but kindle’s is the only one which has an element of dispaor and makes me feel like there’s an actual threat at hand, which considering this is a war is something I should feel more often. I mean sure advance wars has a colorful lighthearted theme, but that doesn’t change the fact that if you lose and black hole wins the whole world will get desiccated to give von bolt eternal life. So yeah, I kind of want music that conveys that despair when I fight them
Great theme. I love the opening. The CO irritated me no end in the Campaign, but she's got some pretty useful abilities.
Honestly, the idea that she can incite violent riots against her enemies at will is terrifying. Does she have some form of ESP? Does she utilize some kind of airborne pathogen to drive citizens into a bloodlust? I wish the AW series got into the darker bits of details without getting super edgy like DoR did.
Insert Name Here she has the stuff from kingsmen lol either that or bombs are planted on all the cities as she preps her power
I'd say she manipulates politics or something.
While we're on the subject, how is Olaf capable of just summoning a snowstorm at will?
@@davidgeorge1943 They have superpowers, Sturm drops meteors, depending on how you look at it, Andy straight up revives people and lets not forget Drake summoning a fucking Tsunami
@@irispaiva or Hawke summoning... whatever is his storm
Love her. Also part of the super unfun tag pair of Kindle/Sasha. It's like you just want to make people tear their hair out.
You've just given me a very sadistic idea...
-Play as Kindle/Sasha.
-Play on high funds against anyone else.
-Spam Black Bombs.
-Spam Urban Blight to sap unit HP (in conjunction with the Black Bombs) and spam Market Crash to deny enemy CO powers as much as possible.
-Spam MD tanks, Mechs and throw in some Anti-Air and Artillery for good measure.
-Build Fighters and Bombers (on occasion).
Maybe do some other stuff too... just to piss them off.
Mwahahahaha. 👿
Stalingrad but it's evil Marge Simpson
seriously, those Urban buffs are super annoying.
" Ketchup tipped asparagus "
I just imagined Kindle saying her lines with Marge Simpson's voice lmao
You'd never have convinced me you could do pouty-lipped duckface on an AW game until I saw Kindle. For whatever reason the look just works for her. Plus she has the personality to match.
This is actually one of my five favorite CO themes ever. Strangely I could imagine it being used in a runway show.
Reminds me of Adder's theme plus Lash's theme.
Kenneth Ligutom Or a racing game :D
+MessengerOfDreams The interesting thing about this song is that not a single part sounds the same, so the song doesn't as old as other songs do.
+Ian Leather Not true. There are a lot of Advance Wars songs that keep on moving. Sasha's theme is more diverse than this one.
sigurdtheblue Sorry for confusing you sir Sigurd, I meant to say that most of the dual strike CO themes keep on moving. Personally, I think the most under rated of any of the CO themes is Grimm's, it's just so energetic!
She had a pretty badass personality and I love how she argues with hawke and lash and even her own right men, koal and juggar
bad ass personliaty? she literally goes "aha aha ha" every time she speaks. even when losing. the most annoying and dumb character in AW to date
Badass my ass, the only badass here is Hawke cause he gives no fucks about anything.
if i were gonna fancast her, Gemma Chan (Minn-Erva from Captain Marvel) should become Kindle
My point still stands lmao, the worst part I just realised is the Piperunner Lab Map where at the start she praised Piperunner, taking all the credit from Lash saying that it was her magnificent design, idea, concept and firepower and everything. Then when she loses, she blames Lash for making Piperunner a Mediocre and more expensive Rocket Launcher. Hawke is really the only badass, doesnt mess with his opponents and want a serious fighting challenge, thinks a strategy before attacking his opponents or defending his fortresses, respects his own opponents himself, when he lost in The Great Sea battle, he simply just faked his own death, blamed no one and let the soldiers do whatever they please. After Sturm's defeat at the Final Front, he suddenly appeared in the last second, kills Sturm to take rule of Black Hole, doesn't give fucks about his opponents surviving and just says he liked all of their performances and left. Come Dual Strike, he only appeared once as an opponent, as a means to defend the Piperunner map and a fodder, he lost then left, when he found out about Von Bolt he just simply left with Lash without any fear or anything, teamed up with the Allied Nations, when they won, he didn't even celebrate and simply went on his way, the second time they won, if Jake didnt shot Von Bolt will pull a Sturm but Hawke just simply stopped him and presumably died, if Jake shot the chair, he was impressed and while Von Bolt tried the same thing, Hawke was still impressed by this act himself. He lived like a badass who cares nothing but himself, loves power and powerful opponents and killed the Two Main Bosses of the game. True definition of a badass, compared to some city fashion queen who is extremely delusional and finger points everyone when she loses.
That part at 0:48 is like cocaine for my ears.
Even the prettiest rose has thorns!!
"Everyone else is the proletariat, and baby I'm the bourgeoisie. Look it up, Joe!"
It's been a charmed life...
Holy shit that's like the second time I've realised Phineas and Ferb referenced Marx.
AKA: Get out of the city or you'll be sorry.
Even the prettiest rose has thorns
Also don't stand right next to the city or her +80% firepower unit will outright delete yours.
Also also don't stand two or more tiles away from the city or she'll cap it and surround the capturing Infantry with other units, stealing your city.
I love how much synergy her powers have. And after Urban Blight spam took over many of your cities, High Society rolls in and delivers the Coup de Grace to your army.

Kindle's powers are insane. Definetly tier 1.

She’s gonna pay!
Very unique theme and a very cool one! Hectic, chaotic but beautiful, elegant, interestingly some Near East vibes even, some electronic stuff. There's a lot going on in this theme and all of it is amazing. Also I like Kindle's design a lot, very aesthetically pleasing to me. It's good that Kindle is not strictly beautiful, it would've been banal, but yes, she's exotic at best (someone said it perfectly: "fish face" xD). Also Kindle fits her a lot better than Candy, bleh, that's vulgar.
In the Japanese version, she’s literally called “Candle”.
@@apocalypseofplush That's good as well!
She is my favorite villain in this series. Fun to play as and play against, fun music theme, and even fun story to read.

No problemo. Always happy to service.
Yeah. Pretty glad to find a (high) qualitiy extended version of this, then again 1 song out of 20 suddenly only 10 instead of 20 minutes. Aaaargh
I would have to say, out of all the COs themes, this is my favourite.
Always a joy turning her units into Kindling (I'm sorry, the pun was irresistible). I need to play this again. They need to make another Advance Wars game. Same with Golden Sun. So many great series from the GBA died on the DS.
Nintendo rebooted AW1 and AW2 on the switch
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES~!!! GOLDENSUN was ALSO AMAZING.
@@reaperincess It was, and it desperately needs a new entry. The fact that the series as a whole just ended on a cliffhanger... TWELVE YEARS AGO... kind of pisses me off.
@@prince_nocturne I wholeheartedly agree... Who was your favorite character?
@@reaperincess Hard to say, really. I kind of have an odd liking for Alex and all his nonsense machinations. Satoros is pretty interesting, too, plus his theme is a banger. I like that Jenna doesn't take shit from anyone, which is nice.
Probably one of my favourite themes in Dual Strike. Even though I never, ever played Kindle. I might main her just for the theme...
I ended up maining Kindle, she's very fun.
@@TheGloriousLobsterEmperor she definitely is!
That +40% fire power from cities is such a good passive to have.
And she is also one of the few new character additions in Dual Strike that feel like they were properly thought out beforehand - she is super strong on cities, so to counter that you either avoid all cities (in which case she has an easier time capturing them and deals a massive blow with her SCOP), or to block them by putting your own units on top (in which case she can use her COP to drive them off again).
Around cities anything you do against her feels like a lose-lose situation.
Love how you replied yourself 4 years later and telling us you main her now, also yeah her theme it's awesome
@@Jozhir What can I say? I'm committed.
This makes me wonder where she was going when she said she wanted to go to Paris... Or she meant Green Earth?

True tho!
I'm not sure, but maybe it's because this is in "A Minor" ? That always sounded Egyptian to me
She's French.
With all the craziness she has, how cheap Urban Blight is (hell, even High Society isn't that expensive), and her bonuses, I've always wondered if she's actually a stronger CO in Dual Strike than Von Bolt.
She's mid tier due to urban blight being property dependant
@@TeltStory Gotta disagree on that because of not just how cheap it is cost wise, but on how much damage her passive gives. Properties are a lot more than just Cities and your HQ. They're also Bases, Airports, Ports, Missile Silos, and Comm Towers, for instance.
Von Bolt is actually kinda mediocre.
@@TheGloriousLobsterEmperor Von Bolt is a strong CO. He is not overpowered, but he is strong - around the same strength level as Hawke.
The only thing holding him back from being better than Hawke is Ex Machina, which is just outright terrible value for a 10 star cost.
Kindle´s Name in a German AWDS Editon is Candy. I don´t get it.
They changed a ton of Names in all german Advance Wars games - I don't get it either. The orginials probably don't sounded "european enough".
that was in the EU port in general not just Germany. Hawke, Flak, and Lash, were also renamed. going by Maverick, Kat, and Helmut in the EU release
GearShotgun
Thanks for the info. Changing perfectly weird names just seems like a german thing to do :D
Most peoples names on changes in EU version
which is reason why i get confused when people talk about kindle and i thought it was a secret player
In the case of the German versions of the Advance Wars Black Hole trilogy, they were (the PAL version was in general) translated directly from the Japanese version. The US version changed quite a lot, and the German translation was at times more faithful (for example Lash was called Kat in the Japanese version)
People tend to forget this because the JP releases were delayed a lot and think the US version is the original.
Is this a war zone or a rave?
why not both
ITT: smelly unfortunates. Aha ha ha!
In my mind, Kindle was the real villain of DS. Much more antagonistic, tougher to beat, no weaknesses, and the devastating tags with Koal and Jugger - that feeling of dread when the BH tag music has already looped, your army has barely survived, and the CPU swaps Kindle in for the second turn...
Von Bolt sounded like he could barely be bothered most of the time. They should have ditched him and just buffed High Society to also do city damage (or even increased it to 4 or 5HP).
A good counter to Hachi? Maybe.
Why is her hair red?
Lol she is fucking awesome that she could be powerful than Von Bolt.
Urban Blight: 3 stars
Ex Machina: 10 stars
Target range(U.B): 2~60
Target range(E.M): 1~13
Damage is both the same(3)
So Kindle is stronger than Von Bolt
Kindle's power doesn't stop you from moving. That's what makes Ex Machina a game changer and Urban Blight an annoyance.
Urban blight is broken
If you just bought expensive units she will just make you waste more by damaging them
Ex Machina is actually more powerful as it can completely change a course of battle if it hits the right spot. Urban blight...not much of a game changer.
+Lord Rndom I think the Problem is that you never had to fight Von Bolt in a battle where his SCOP could do a lot (in normal campaign) because you always could outnumber/outclass his units in both missions. If six or seven of your infantry/tank units cannot move and you still have 40 units left...you just dont care.
@@LordRndom Ex Machina is predictable and can easily be manipulated. Urban Blight cant,it interrupts your captures and completely screws you out of your turn or interrupting Kindles captures.
Kindle+Jugger=broken team
+TheChoujinVirus psshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. have you ever heard of Kanbei and Sonja?
+Allen Felipe (phoenixderp13) Yep. Battle standard is OP (though when I tested AI battle standard it lost to colin.) 130% and crazy counter-attacks no matter where it finishes.

Quitting the Kindle "feelings" towards Von Bolt, i think she was one of the better characters of DS, she is too charismatic, even if she really wants to k1ll the entire planet.
Tbf the only bad character from DS was Jack, too cringe for my taste
