  • In July of 2020 we drove from Birmingham, Alabama to Ely, Minnesota to do a 5 day canoe trip in the Boundary Waters. We stopped in Winona, MN to pick up a Merrimack Prospector 16 canoe I ordered a few months earlier and put it to the rest right away. We started at entry point 14 (Little Indian Sioux River) and took out at entry point 16 (Moose River) via Little Indian Sioux River, Upper & Lower Paunes Lakes, Shell Lake, Little Shell Lake, Lynx Lake, Ruby Lake, Hustler Lake, Oyster Lake, Agnes Lake, Nina Moose River, Nina Moose Lake, Moose River, and a day trip to Rocky Lake thrown in. This was my 5th time doing a trip in the Boundary Waters and it is a very special place yo my. It became even more special when I asked the love of my life to marry me as we watched the sunset on Oyster Lake!

    Thanks for the great video. The filming is very good. The Merrimack definitely adds to the whole video. I enjoy the campsite shots a lot. I am glad you found the area. I have done that route several time over the years. I am from Tennessee and have been going since 1969. I have only missed seven summers in all those years.

    Good job on capturing the quietude of the BWCA. Too many load it up with babble and music.

    Planning a trip to the BWCA. Been there before and your videos remind me how enjoyable it is there. Oh, and by the way, great place to propose.

      @@mrgjoe I really love it. It handles great tandem or solo. The trip in this video was my first trip with it. I figured there’s not a better place to break it in and go ahead and get some scratches on it.

      @@ben2thewild I saw that you had picked it up and headed right to the BWCA. Glad to hear you love it and at some point I might have to do exactly what you did. Thanks for the insight!

    How do you like the Prospector 16? I am considering either Merrimack's Prospector or their 17 foot Traveler.

    At about minute 8:40, you stayed at a campsite that had a wonderful beach; Which lake was that? And, Which campsite? Thanks.

    hey great video and congrats! do you recommend this route? also, how were the bugs? was this late or early july? thank you!

    • @ben2thewild
      @ben2thewild  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! It was a fun route but definitely has several long portages. The bugs were definitely not as bad as I expected. We had a couple of portages where they were bad but overall I can’t complain. This was late July.

    How long did it take them to build it, or.. in other words, when did you order your canoe? Or did you just order one that was already in stock?

    • @ben2thewild
      @ben2thewild  4 роки тому

      They typically take 6 weeks to build but they did a huge sale when the pandemic first started and they received a ton of orders so mine took longer. Mine took around 12 weeks.
