  • A 10 day canoe & camping adventure into Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area in July 2017. Had a great time fishing with my father and sister.
    Our route was: Mudro Lake - Fourtown - Boot - Fairy - Gun - Gull - Thunder - Beartrap Lake. Then back again.
    We caught a bunch of fish, mostly Walleye and Smallmouth Bass. Saw a female moose too!

    This short video reminds me of so much fun I had as a junior in high school. Myself, a principal, science teacher and 9 other kids went up for 2 weeks. At the time we stayed a night in Ely Minnesota and then canoed 32 miles in the boundary waters. We stopped by a lady's cabin named Dorothy. She was an amazing women. We had some very strong rootbeer that she made with ice from the lake she lived on. We could only have 1 since they were almost as strong as regular beer. She was the midway point for our journey. As a young high schooler that trip left me wanting to go again. Although I haven't been back I've thought about it often. For anybody that has a chance please go you won't regret it. Thanks again for sharing.

    I've been all over the world. The BWCA is my favorite place on this earth. Not simply because I am a Minnesotan, but because it is a very serene place. A chance to disconnect from the world and be a part of nature undisturbed. Moose, bears, skunks, chipmunks, etc. They all live differently up there versus the hustle and bustle of city life. I cant wait until the next trip I get. As soon as I am able to retire this is where I want to be! Great video guys !!!

    I’m going there in July this year, and looking at this video I know it’s going to be quite great. I’m going to have to portage with bigger canoes though, haha.

    Great video! Looks like y'all had fun and enjoyed the Land. Thanks for posting your experience and getting people excited about Nature, and demonstrating how to treat it with respect.

    Great video of my neck of the woods. The BWCA is a great place to disconnect. You never have time to worry about text messages or emails. You worry about getting up, making a fire, cooking food, going fishing and doing it all over again before you pack up and leave. You worry about the wind direction more than anything.
    I will say though that living off the land is a little misleading. While certain months there can be some wild edibles, planning to live for days off of them and fish is a bad idea. There’s no guarantee of either.

  • @scottengh1175
    @scottengh1175 4 роки тому +1

    Nice. Nice looking family. Recommend carrying canoes last on portages. Better visibility with packs. So you can see where you're going and learn the portage trail first. The canoe is the lighter carry now, too.

    • @thomasholliday4159
      @thomasholliday4159 3 роки тому

      That is true. More than likely learned by experience. Our first time we went from east bearskin to crocodile lake and thought it would be a good idea to carry everything inside the canoe while two people carry it up. WRONG IDEA! Again it really is about the experience and learning. Next time we did not do the same thing. Great tip though. Regardless of the issues, at least you are in nature having fun. NOT ON FACEBOOK!!! LOL

    • @rogerberg8798
      @rogerberg8798 5 років тому +1

      No on a canoe trip the extra weight is minor because you paddle 90% of the time you travel so might as well have some privacy

    When I went to the bnoundary waters with my dad, and my friend and her dad, I was trolling off the back of the boat, since it was the end of a day and we wanted to find a campsite for the night, so we didn't have much time to stop and fish, and I caught a 38 inch pike just trolling. I'm only 13, and had never caught such a big fish, and I was scared so I gave the rod to my dad once i reeled it in and he tried to take it off but the thing was stubborn, so it wouldn't get off and ended up running with the hook still in its mouth. :( SUCH. A. FUN. TRIP.

    This looks great! Going to be there this summer. I am wondering did you only fish for the dinner plate in the evening before dinner? If not what did you do to keep the fish fresh if you caught one you wanted to keep and we’re not ready to cook it in the next hour? I assume you had no cooler.

    I read about this wonderland in a National Geographic book, now I saw this. I'm in looooooove . . .
    So, what happens if you canoe north instead of east? Is Border Patrol of either country waiting to cite or jail you, or is that even monitored?

      If you want to do a wilderness overnight trip between May and September your going to have to have an overnight paddle permit. Your also going to need a Minnesota fishing license. To start out your research for your trip you can start by going to the Superior National Forest Website also to reserve your permit you will need an account with www.recreation.gov.
      If you want to learn more you can go to www.bwca.com and www.ely.org. If your not ready for the wilderness trip there are plenty of semi primitive places to camp where you can have a wonderful experience. Hope this helps you.
