Way back when, Gossow was my first encounter with female growls. So I still hold her in the highest of regards, thus my favourite. That said, Tatiana and Courtney are both really talented vocalists as well!

Many commentators talk about the range of the voice, comparing vocalists performing compositions using growl. But it doesn't really matter, it's not a conservatory stage)). Angela created the very concept of "Arch Enemy", this group will always be associated with the name of Angela Gossow, with her presentation, with her energy. Yes, they had a wonderful Johan, and now they have an equally beautiful Alissa, but it was Angela who truly brought the band worldwide fame. She has created an atmosphere around herself that allows all former team members to continue to communicate well, which happens very rarely and testifies to her talent as a manager. Her contribution to the promotion of female vocals in MDM cannot be overestimated. Yes, she was not the first, but it was under her influence that many skeptics changed their minds. She continues to work hard, leading several bands, bringing joy to their fans. Angela is really a living legend, and it's impossible to refute that.
I have to laugh at so many other channels on UA-cam reacting to (primarily) Jinjer or Spiritbox and going, "WTF! Women can't do that! This can't be real!" then acting like females doing extreme vocals are something new. I first saw Angela Gossow in the mid-'90s and she wasn't even the first. Glad to see the ladies finally getting the respect they're due in these genres. Great job, Z! Stay safe everyone. Cheers.

Recién aparece esta sugerencia.. soy de Argentina, tuve el honor de ser banda telonera de arch enemy en tres oportunidades.❤ Angela fue es y será inspiración de muchísimas mujeres que se animaron a subir un escenario, haciendo este estilo de música.
Ella fue mi inspiración Por lo cual hace más de 21 años que estoy cantando Death metal. De hecho tengo el único tributo a arch Enemy desde hace 12 años con conocimiento incluso de la misma banda sueca.
Lamentablemente Para mí fue una muy mala elección poner a Alissa Cómo reemplazo de Angela,NO Por qué se llama la cantante, por el contrario, ,Alissa tiene una voz increíble y muy versátil, pero para mi gusto No es la vocalista para arch enemy. Le falta toda esa brutalidad, y ese poder qué a Angela le sobraba. Comprendo perfectamente que es por una cuestión de marketing, una "cara bonita', fresca, joven, pero sobre todo una voz que "no molesta" atrae nuevos seguidores y es mucho más comercial.
Gracias a Angela, quién no ha sido la primera pero sí la más popular, Se abrieron las puertas a una nueva y a una nota nueva generación de vocalistas femeninas del estilo.
NO estoy de acuerdo, PARA NADA, en que Melissa cross es una gran coach, 🤌🏻, para mí ella simplemente como decimos en nuestro país, es una "vende humo"Realmente no enseña NADA nuevo, ni entrena vocalistas desde CERO. Ademas verla ,es como ver un Barman, que no toma alcohol , o un tatuador SIN tatuajes . Es realmente MALA ,PURA PUBLICIDAD. Dejen de darle camara

Great reaction and explanation! Earned the sub. Been a fan of Archenemy for years, and I'm very partial to Angela Gossow over Alissa as the lead singer. She's nearly in a league of her own when it comes to growling with only Tatiana from Jinjer right there.

@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach You know, I do not know how to explain in words the difference between the vocals and the energy of Angela Gossow and Alyssa White-Gluz. Maybe my cat knows about it. He watches the video with Angela very cautiously, exclusively from under the couch. And when Alissa sings, he lies quite calmly next to the TV)) It's a pity that he can't speak and won't be able to tell you what's going on))

So you want a list of more female growlers?
1 sticking to Arch Enemy Alissa White-Gluz but its worth mentioning her full range isnt used there. If you want that check her former band The Agonist (song Panophobia or Thank you Pain).
2 Vicky Psarakis is the new singer from The Agonist and also has a nice range imrpoving with every album (song In Vertigo).
3 Courtney Laplante from Spiritbox you might start with Blessed Be or Rule of Nines then do Holy Roller.
4 Melissa Bonny has various appearences but her band Rage of Light might be the go to. Songs to choose from are Mechanicals, "I can, i will" and the Amon Amarth Cover Twitlight of the Thundergod.
5 Otep Shamaya from Otep song Ghost Flowers
6 and someone you wouldnt expect here Floor Jansen song Yours is an empty hope by Nightwish live at Wembley

PS: Floor is listed last because the other bands have there focus on this stuff where Nightwish is symphonic metal. Otherwise she and Allisa are my two favorites.

Something way different i like to add since she is under everyones radar but was a big talent Aleah Stanbridge from Trees of Eternity a realy soft and haunting voice. Sadly lost to Cancer. If you find the time A Million Tears, Sinking Ships and Gallows Bird are my absolute favorites allthough the complete album is a master piece.

@@masestero Well, the terms "better" and "worse" are often only personal preference viewpoints. Let's say they are different and you like Alyssa more than Vicky. That's OK. As I said, my list is not complete by no means at all.

I learned a lot from this video.
Angela Gossow is the single greatest vocalist that has ever existed in recorded history. Like....by lightyears, no one even comes close to her. She is in a category all her own. It will likely remain that way forever, but I'd be pleasantly surprised to be wrong if it happens in my lifetime. Unpopular opinion here, but I'd say second is easily Jack Black. People sleep on him just because he is goofy and does silly songs. There's a reason he won a Grammy for best metal performance. That man is an absolutely legend in his own time. I would then argue third is a little-known vocalist (relatively speaking compared to the other two) called Priscilla Serano. Her ability to transition between melodic and growl is essentially unmatched in my opinion.

You might want to check out a band named Crisis. Album is Deathshead Extermination from around '96. Probably one of the first female growlers, but also had quite a range.
First female growler i heard. Karyn Crisis has been in several projects, but her current one is Gospel of the Witches.

It could've been Som Pluijmers, but sadly she retired so early :|
But I really love Els Prins from Sister of Suffocation. She comes from pop/rock, but her growls are deep, with great range and they'll only get better in the years to come.

Rachel did one album with the french Metal band Eths. She worked with them after Candice left. Rachel is really good. 👍
Great reaction. Some less well-known recommendations for female growlers: Konvent - an all-female Swedish death metal band and Anormality - as far as I can tell one of the first bands to have a true false chord female growler. Genre is technical death metal, so no for the faint-hearted but really incredible vocals.

The newest and most popular at UA-cam is the female Japanese band hanabie. The growls and screams on yukina is amazing. And that is a little strange how small and cute she is. You should definitely to a reaction to hanabie and yukina. They have one live clip released to their hit "pardon me i have to go now". Otherwise I would recommend "tousou" or "we love sweets". One of the most popular bands on UA-cam at the moment.

@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach i worked with both angela and alyssa for the band. they are both amazing. alyssa is my homegirl, she comes from where i am and i got to hear her on her older band The Agonist (maybe you could do a reaction on it).
I prefer Angela but I have no right to diss the new singer because the new singer was hand picked by Angela. I don't want to say anything bad about Angela's pick.
If you want some powerful female growls I recommend looking up ESCAPE THE FATE - Guillotine (Cover by Lauren Babic and Linzey Rae). They’re excellent.
