- Just when I thought I've mastered Spanish and a "native" accent, my teacher brings me back to reality! This is based on true events (for the most part lol). And as for as the whole "GRINGO" thing is concerned, this video is more focused on the "gringo" accent, and not so much on what, or who is considered one. Thanks for viewing!
By the way, if you want to take Spanish classes with my friend Karen, here's a link to get you started! Make sure to tell her that "Freedom" sent you! • Learn Spanish with Kar...
😁😁😁***Also, if you speak Spanish and live in the areas of Charlotte (NC), Miami (FL), or Virginia Beach (VA) and you want to participate in a skit, hit me up!

I'm going to be totally honest here it kind of sounds a little bit brazilian more than gringo
#iLLzWiLLs Agreed yYstLe
100% agree. It was starting to have the flowiness that I hear in other countries like the Dominican Republic.
I once met an old guy who used to be a trucker that drove from Mexico to the USA. He spoke very fluent Spanish I was impressed. We had a full friendly conversation in Spanish.
Lmao yep
Me, a brazilian, seeing the video: Actually, it is not that bad...
Me, reading the comment: Oh...

To all English speakers who are learning Spanish, don’t worry about having an accent as long as things are understandable. This also applies for any language. Keep working hard to expand your vocabulary!

I'm a Norwegian who grew up in Spain and since I came back to Norway a few years ago I can't get rid of those small details that make me not sound like a native, I ended up embracing my accent as a strong part of my personality and something that makes you stand out in an interesting way, that's what you gotta do.
Omg this made me laugh 😂
As a gringo... this is my worst nightmare! 😅
James Avery Yes, I did this skit in reaction to actual real life interactions I’ve had with some of my Spanish teachers. So I definitely see your perspective 😂 👍🏽.

Sounding like a gringo is not a problem, the real problem are verbs conjugation times and modes... and proper vocabulary
@@ericsmidt6923 As a spanish speaker I think those aspects you mentioned are more important that not sounding like a "gringo". I don't care if they sound gringo as long as they express themselves well with some fluency.
Very funny. 🤣 But in all seriousness, having an accent is cool as long as your pronunciation is good. And he sounded REALLY good. I understood everything.
Well, thanks for that Morenita. It’s easier for me to “pull it off” when there’s a script and I have the ability to cut, edit, re-do, etc haha. In real life, it’s still a bit of a struggle, but I’m trying to re-dedicate more time to actually advance. I notice that you’re also in the process of improving your Spanish. IMO to me he didn't sound that gringo. His accent reminds me of how Haitians speak Spanish in Dominican republic.
I know this is a funny video and it is, but I feel compelled to say that there is nothing wrong with having an accent. I actually find it very charming when people have accents, especially when those people are speaking a language that was once upon a time, foreign to them.
That person put time and effort in to learning the language! It always warms my heart and makes me want to thank them.
I say this as a French Canadian, and I love it when people speak French with me. No matter how accented your french is, or whether it's your 2nd or 3rd language, don't be intimidated, keep going! I imagine the same applies for most Spanish speakers.
tl;dr There is nothing wrong with sound like a gringo! It's a part of who you are! Your accent will soften with time, but even then, to lose your accent would be to lose a part of who you are! Don't stress about it too much.
A very heartfelt response. Thank you for your input Stephane 😌🙂

@@Catu52 Are you sure, bro? An actual Brazilian told me I was wrong. Tread lightly. 🤣
This is why I'm terrified to speak Spanish out loud
Yeah, at one point I found myself getting almost a lil too proud of how “natural” sounding I was, like a native, in my mind. When reality hit, it brought everything back to earth 😂. However, I do realize that the far majority of Spanish speakers actually do appreciate the fact that you are at least trying and taking the time to learn a language that’s not your own. You can’t be terrified to speak because the longer you delay in speaking, the longer you will take to actually see results and progress. At worst, you should at least try recording yourself speaking and critiquing it, and improving that way...

I love when Americans have an accent while speaking Spanish, it is a cute accent honestly. Since I'm from PR and being an American territory, most people at least understand English, so hearing someone go through all the trouble of learning Spanish is really cool and appreciated.

My Spanish professor held me back after class one time to ask me why tf I have an argentine accent. I've never been so complimented in my life.
Haha, I took a couple years of German and when I talked to some real Germans in a pub they thought I had a Bavarian accent. Maybe that's where my German teacher was from?

In the U.S. you have people from many other countries and all of them have distinctive accents.
Obviously, if someone from the U.S. learns another language they'll sound "from the U.S." when they speak. It's just normal.
That's why you learn accents
There will always be some sorta accent. However in the case of the video the accent was very very heavy though, I’ve heard people from the US talk Spanish with virtually no accent so it’s possible to mask it.
@@mr.equity1120 its very possible to mask your gringo accent, enough time studying the accent you want to learn while practicing it then is possible, I'm from south africa but my wife says you'd never I wasn't from méxico when I speak Spanish

I know that I have a strong gringo accent but I learned a lot from playing online video games with my friends in Mexico. One time I played with a group of people from Spain and they were calling me la mexicana even though they knew where I was from. They said it was because I spoke like a Mexican. Yeah my family hasn't been fluent for a while. I have one tia who's an ESL teacher and that's it. It's the trouble with having been north for so long I guess. I'm so tired of people asking me to translate at jobs and having to explain that not every latino speaks Spanish at home.

I used to literally have anxiety about speaking Spanish when I first learned. I was afraid of offending native speakers by not saying things correctly. I'm fluent now, still mess up sometimes, but they don't care! They like that you made an honest effort to learn their language!
That’s been my experience as well! I just came back from Cuba, and I didn’t run into anyone who spoke English, so I had no choice but to give a go in Spanish. And yes, even though I made some mistakes, they appreciated me giving all I had to communicate with them in their language 🙌🏾.
I loved this haha, but although you can easily tell when someone is not a native Spanish speaker I'm amazed when someone gets this fluent! I think it's ok to have some accent, with time it might become more natural but the important thing is to get to communicate with others
There’s a difference between accent and pronunciation. Accents don’t matter, but pronunciation is important to be understood. Funny video btw lol
You’re definitely correct about the distinct difference in having an “accent” and pronouncing words in a bad manner. Thanks for you input and taking time to watch the vid!

We used to listen to and read along with Spanish audiobooks in my high school Spanish class (they were all either children's book or made to be simple for Spanish classes).

Lol so I was born in Spain (Cadiz) moved to the U.S with my American mother and Spanish father at the age of 12, totally stopped speaking Spanish (I learned both languages at the same time as a kid) moved to Madrid at the age of 21.
So many people said I had an American accent, but I and others noticed that the more I lived in Spain, the more I sounded native. I want to say my brain still had the language down, but maybe it was looking for the information in English? IDK but el acento Andaluz sale de vez en quando xD
