- Diet is incredibly important for preventing chronic illnesses such as dementia. The gut nourishes the entire body and is the key to good health. As a GI doc my approach to preventing dementia would include optimizing everyone's diet. Although the MIND diet isn't as trendy as some of the other diets, it has way more evidence supporting its benefits.
