I just got one of these after years of doing a tap dance with other amplifiers, I always wanted a Marshall but thought I couldn't afford one. I am blown away by the feel and touch sensitivity of this BEAST, with ANY guitar. The clean channel is my favorite, but the gain is unbelievable hands down best deal and amplifier for the money IN MY OPINION, because this is the sound I have always wanted. This model is so underappreciated and let's just keep it that way, at least until I get another one. Excellent demo, cheers.
I have 2 of these heads- 1 stock (sans tubes) and one modded. I love them both. To me there's only been one amp more versatile (Supro Galaxy), but it doesn't have the overall tone and balls this one does. Underrated amp for sure.
I swear.. if I could only have one amp, it would be the JCM 2000 DSL 100. I've had one since 2007 and it never ceases to amaze me how good it sounds! I play everything from jazz to country to blues and classic rock to metal... and the DSL does em all just great. I also have a JCM 800 2203x which gives me equally great results! Nice clip btw... your R0 sounds sweet! :)
@@Gma7788 I sold this amp sometime back but there was no lack of bottom end. It all depends upon the type of music you are looking to play. For all around rock amp there is a reason these are on so many back lines
My JCM2000 has been my go-to amp since I found it used about five years ago. It has stayed while other amps (EVH, ENGL, Peavey, Blackstar, Fender) have come and gone. The local amp tech says mine is the best Marshall in terms of quality and tone that he's ever played. Just retubed with Svetlana pre and Tung-Sol power tubes. Clean channel is crisp and clear, overdrive and gain are rich and organic. The import DSL 100H is not bad either. In fact, Gary Holt of Exodus and Slayer uses them onstage.
+Patrick Giles Yes, these are killer amp heads, no doubt about that. However, maybe you should be more hesitant to knock the Blackstar off your list. I have all the best amps and heads marshall makes, however, that Blackstar HT100 Venue Stage 100 Watt Head is a MONSTER ON STEROIDS, and then some. I purchased one several months ago, and truth be told, I find myself spending more enjoyable time plugged into that beast than in my '72 Plexi. Seriously. Plugged straight into the amp is sonically outstanding, but, don't fuck around and put an equalizer in front of that bitch, cause I swear it'll give you a boner. Check one out when you get an opportunity!
schuldiner7567 I have two EVH's. I choose the Blackstar over them. I'm not some 16 year old kid either. I'm 70 and was a studio musician with Capital Records for many years, and am an electronic technician. I learned amps and sound under Bear Owlsley back in the 60's. These Blackstars are getting better and better.
Well the EVH isn't as general purpose as those general purpose amps are. It's exclusive to the full EVH setup. Once a player uses all EVH product, those amps come alive and are doing things which NO other amp does.
I'm sorry but this new import DSL100 is a far better head than the old JCMs. It sounds much better and has more features and certainly a lot more reliable.
I just got my 2000 back from the shop and holy shit!! I think it sounds better than my JCM800! These amps get a bad wrap bc anything pre 2006 has a bad defect where when the power tubes get too hot it melts the num 5 pin and warps the circuit board. If anyone is having problems with their 2000, check the serial number, if it's before 06 and you're having problems, you probably need a new circuit board ($300 from Marshall plus shipping = not worth it for most.)
my friend has a jcm 2000 dsl , made 2009 , i want to buy it ,he says the amp is all right now, but im afraid it could be the same problem, over hotting or disoldering some pieces in the future, what do you say about it?
jimmy hendrixx It's made in 2009 so it shouldn't have that problem. If you knock on the top of the amp and you hear a rattling noise or some extra fuzz then it's time to change the tubes. That's the only problem that can happen when you buy a 100%working tube amp.:)
Tamas i read these amps have some problem with the ohm selector , loop effects jacks and circuit board , do you know something about this? i really like the jcm 2000 dsl sound and my friend has one m 2009 , i want to buy it, but all the coments confuse and afraid me , i appreciate your opinion
Not true. These heads give you every tone in the marshall line and the deep switch really adds tone to your sound. Tsl heads very thin sound not these ones.
Good demo...great amp. This DSL100 and the Gibby LP are in good hands here...therefore sounds great.... as does My DSL100 ! In my opinion,BEST Marshall ever for tones and versatility....not so much for dependability until you get the bugs out on some of these, then your set to go "long Time". Don't bias them at 90ma per side ! Mine is best at 70ma / side. Longer tube life and great tone.
Hi, I know the pitfalls with 90ma biasing regarding too hot for PCB board etc, but I've re-biased mine to about 78ma after fitting new tubes. Sounds good but very treble heavy now. Just wondered, did you not find running yours colder at 70ma made your amp sound even brighter, or is it the golden number? One thing I noticed, the bias does go up after about an hours worth of playing.
I bought this amp a few months ago. It has tremendous power. I had a JCM800 50W head in 1991. It had a good sound but the JCM2000 alot more choices and reverb. I like it alot better.
3:35 I removed the reverb (zero) ....but it was channel B (Lead 2) Presence(12?) Bass(12) Middle(12) Treble(12) Deep switch (off) Tone Shift (off) Volume (9-10?) Gain( 12-1-2hours?) ....usually I put in a new amp for me all at 12:00 and then change the taste, so the Gain,Presents first...
Hi mate what were your eq settings? Have you done any mods? I find that I can’t switch between the 2 channels without changing eq! If I get the green channel sounding great the red sounds thin and weak! But then I get the red channel screaming and sounding amazing only to switch back to a muddy, bassy mess on green channel. Both channels sound amazing on their own........
Today I use quite different amplifiers (Marshall 2203 ,YJM100, Plexi,Friedman ВE100 Splawn,Fortin) but when I adjust the equalizer I use ears and the sound of the guitar wood ... in marshall it's the easiest to put the frequency knobs for 12 hours and twist on the taste
+motorheadbanger90 The dsl100h has a resonance control knob instead of a "deep" switch. It is also switchable down to 50 watts. If I can find one for under $500 I'd love one!

So what IS the philosophy of this vid? Cause you ain't using any old marshall and Gibson sonic adjusting technique. Not 1! If you're the only person hearing the amp in person then you've got no choice, you must have that presence knob at or around zero on the setting. I can tell your presence setting is way up! That's BaD sound. From there, you should be using the middle or the neck pickup on that Gibson 70% of the time. And you should be backing off the treble at the guitars tone control. Once you realise the EQ section needs to be adjusted away from the Marshall setting of '5,5,5' then you'll find that the amp has the power to completely reverse the tone of the bridge pickup, if you want to do that sonic effect. You can make the bass notes super powerful from the treble pickup. But you've then gotta answer the question of, "Why do you do that to the sound"?This amp has lots of bottom end power, and huge sonic separation sound from all other instruments, it really is a marvel! After 17 years, I'm STILL learning about this amp. A les Paul is an old design, so too is the marshall stack. You've really gotta go back in time and learn about these things cause they predate your life, but are new versions of the old famous items. It's amazing that you're still sticking to these old things. Van Halen really did cross the les Paul with a strat and then cut off ALL the excessive weight from the product. A new future has opened up for us all to try! Which future will you choose?
