- In this tutorial I show you step by step how to cover your grey's or do a root touch up on your own hair at home using eSalon’a custom at hone color kit. This color has great gray coverage and with a pro colorist customizing your color you’re sure to end up with the right color.
Here's a link to my very own eSalon page where YOU can get a custom hair color for just $15: (eSalon had to raise the cost from $10 due to production costs. $15 is still an incredible deal)

THANK YOU! My wife asked if I'd like to color her roots - challenge accepted! We found your video, watched it twice, and I followed your tutorial. I had to improvise on that tool you used: I bought a 1" nylon-bristle paint brush, and trimmed the bristles so they flexed but still had some grab. I used a chopstick to separate the layers. Applied store-bought L'Oreal and nailed the color. It turned out great! She's so stoked, I'm relieved.
That’s so funny! I’m happy your items worked! That’s love!
Good job!
...and you saved $60+ !
@@KR_Herbert More like $90 or so.
Mmmmmm help, please! I'm having the same issues as your wife :( I'm terrified to attempt lol
(HINT: COMMERCIAL ENDS AT 4:01)
She looks exactly the same before and after
Thank you lol but seriously :)
Thank you!
It’s obvious you’re a professional from how straight your sections are! I highlighted my hair yesterday and the sectioning is way harder than it looks lol
I’m assuming maybe you got a Demi-permanent color matching your exact root color just to cover grays? Because I see literally no difference. 🤔
This video is to show application technique and show coverage and even saturation. And for me to cover my grays lol! I'm not actually trying to change my root color but to match my base so it’s not meant to look particularly different, just touched up! Using a random box color would likely lead you down the wrong path so instead by using eSalons custom color, you'll get the right color for YOUR hair, and not just what i'm using for mine. I really hope this video helps you guys. xx
ellebangs what color is it that u use ?
I just wanted to know because my root is so similar to yours and i have a lot of Grey hairs too🤷🤦😂
Mine was $10 it was $27???
Did you follow the link? It worked for other people
I actually didn’t even pick my own, I took the quiz like everyone else - but it was close to a 6N
It looks exactly the same after she colored it. Did I miss something???
I know right? That is what I’m thinking when I watch it
Shes using a grey coverage product, try age beautiful mix it with 10 or 20 ion developer. ( I've been doing my roots that way. ) I'm just here to look at other people's technics.
I've gone from red to blonde to periwinkle (faded out to blonde) now it's Lilac. Age beautiful is a hair stripping product also use for lighting roots. It's less damaging than using bleach.
Half of the video is all nonsense talking.
In the beginning of the video (pre-tutorial), she says "I colored my hair yesterday," so her hair's already done at that point. Hope this helps!
Watched this twice and then followed along. Other than the back being harder to section & do, my results were fantastic! Thanks so much for this tutorial❣️
It’s lockdown 3 in Ireland & UK for 3 months! My grey is hideous, thank you Sylvia for the amazing technique on how to do roots and leave the blonde balayage. My hairdresser told me the Loreal Inoa shade so I’ll buy it and try 🙏
Thank you, thank you❤
I just forwarded this to my mom. Just last night, she told me she needed to get her hair greys covered. I told her to buy a kit and do it herself. Sadly, she's never dyed her own hair before. So I just saw this upload of your's in my notifications, and forwarded it to her. She replied that your video was great, and she felt at ease about doing it herself, and needing to force my stepdad to help her LOL😁 Thank you, again 😘❤ Stay safe 💕
c0502 I’m sure she can do her grays with a box dye from the grocery store. My mom does it all the time.
@@lookgorgeous4life713
Being her first time EVER attempting to dye her own hair, she had no clue how to do it herself. So this video gave her an idea on the process, and yes, she'll be buying a hair dying kit from the drugstore 🙂
For stubborn gray hair, add heat (use a bag over your hair, or sit out in the sun- if it’s warm out).
Omgggg thank you so much for your videos!!!! I touched up my own highlights following your routine and it actually turned out gorgeous thank you !!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜
much needed! my roots are outgrowing my headbands. Thank you for the discount also.
She finally gets to the point at 4:06
Thanks, just touched up my roots today after seeing your video....and not doing it myself in.....forever. It worked great! Thanks
Thank you for this video. I just touched up my roots for the first time and I used eSalon per your recommendation and I am totally in love ❤❤❤❤. Thank you again 😘.
I never get hair color but twice a year or so get highlights and would love to do a home. Thanks. 💕💕💕
Impressive how much the hair dye matched your root color! Great video! Very helpful! I definitely need to try this company.💛
💖💖💖Thanks for sharing lovely!!!!! I’ve learned so much from watching your videos and I’m so happy with my formula which is the you showed on one of your videos. I followed every step and I am in love with my hair!!! Luv ya!!!!💖💖💖
Sorry but l don't see any result....🤔🤔🤔
This was to show the application technique. Maybe I shoulda showed a close-up after like I did the before to make it more obvious. It definitely covered all my greys though which is what matters.
@@Ellebangs I opened before and after side by side and there is no difference. Love the technique of application but isn't it a waste of a product (COLOR???) since it doesn't change anything?
Hi, does this colour eservice only deliver to the US and Europe? I’m in NZ
Am Raw I am a professional stylist and yes it did def change her root colour (which is all she was wanting to do). She looked almost a 7 level ash before because of the grey Regrowth and it was a definite warm brown approx level 5 in technical terms. I hope this helps you understand better.
I like her videos, short and to the point.
I think she just wanted to cover her grey.
When she lifted the crown it was super warm
It’s really just a boost for the Amateur.
We may have a lot of corrective color
Keeping us busy, fingers crossed.
Thanks for the link! I can't wait for the kit to arrive.
Thank you so much for this. I ordered through your link. So excited in these crazy times!
Is it just me or does her hair magically section itself when she pulls it up, partitions are so good 😊
I had to watch this for my mum.I literally had no idea how to root her hair thank you for making this video
This was awesome! Great tutorial .Thanks for illustrating how to cover the roots!
Love it. I am planning to follow your tutorial tomorrow. I bought my colors for the first time at Sally. My roots are 5,5 months old, and I want to give my hair some shine and color the grays. I have a high hopes. We shall see. I love your videos. New subscriber here.
This was great thanks .. your lighting is really good. I followed your simple tutorial and I feel like I look decent again👌🌝✌💖
Best wishes and stay safe and well xx
Just ordered mine!!! Thank you Silvia!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I gave a thumbs up and subscribed 😀. I love your root touch up technique!! I will emulate that tomorrow when I do my hair.
To be honest- your hair's color was the same at the end of the video as what you started out with. But... it looked in great shape. When I do mine, I leave in for a lot longer than the package says. I am dealing with greys, so I have to. Thanks ellebangs!
thanks to you i dye my root successfully at home followed your instructions and not having hair dye to my scalp. 😍😍
I followed your baby lights tutorial and it went perfectly! Thankyou 💕
Easy to do baby lights? I want to try that soon
It came out beautiful, Sylvia!! Thank you for sharing this video with us!! 💖
Omg I’m ordering me one 🙌🏻💕 Ty gorgeous for sharing and giving us a demonstration on how to color hair /bleach at home 🔥
FYI hope it turned out ok- after three times using Esalon my hair noticeably started to fall out- I’ve switched and it has stopped. I was using permanent dark golden blonde
You make everything look so easy!
After your root application, did you put anything on the rest of your hair? ex. Toner, ect?
Thanks Sylvia.
Why everybody gets soooo concerned for HER COLOR RESULTS! If none of you requires the same color she uses probably! Her video is amazing! Since all this pandemic started I rely on her video every month doing roots by myself, I follow her super easy technique to apply color, its so easy and the results are perfect!
Thank you Elle! Just place my order for my color..I really like that it's personalized for you.
Joei Zaragoza Root shadow it on wet hair :-) you will be amazed at the blend! Plus it does looks much natural
Good and faithful Sylvia! Thank you 🙏 for doing this video!!! My daughter gets married May 2nd and my roots a screaming for a touch up.
Awesome video! Thank you so much! I think I’m going to give it a try!
I just love your hair colour!! 💗
Loved this ! I will be trying this myself it seems so easy !and what a great deal !
frazee1 do it on wet hair! I did that and looks so professional!
Question. I have balayage and baby lights. I just need to touch my roots in between color appointments. When I rinse out my root color how do you prevent it from getting on your current highlights
Love your videos Could you tell me why when i put a level 7 or 8 ash to cover too yellow highlights it wont cover just looks gold ... so frustrated I am a level 7ish medium ash blonde natural with too thick yellow highlights and trying to cover some up Any help would be much appreciated I have a cupboard of products and no results
Hi Elle! I am seeking your advice. So I tried to mix equal parts permanent dye in shade 8N with 10 volume (tried to make it 1.5 to 1.5 ounces) and applied it to my roots for a root tap. Anyway, this colour did not lift/lighten the colour of my dark roots (but did cover some of my greys coming in at least), so i am thinking in 4 weeks I will try a lighter shade - 9N for the root tap and/or try putting in some babylights, particularly around the front of my face to lighten things up.
Anyway, my question for you is that when I did the root tape with 8N perm dye I got some it unfortunately on a couple small strands the none-root part (so the blonde stuff) and it turned it a bit purple. This happened on a small amount of strands near the front of my face. I am wondering what you would recommend to correct this issue. Should I just try highlighting those strands with bleach mixed with 20 developer? Please advise. Thank you!
Loved your video on how to cut your own hair and also the video on how to cut your man's hair. I followed along to both of those and the end products were a success!! :)
Hey There! I’ve done my roots before while having extensions in. I found that the tape ins don’t last as long. Is there something I’m doing wrong?
This video was the highligth of my week. Thank you so much. It would be nice to know, which color formular you would have used to mix. Because now I don´t have the time to order and only the salon products at home....
Thank you for your help , I just got my first kit but a paid 23 dollars , not ten , and I am going one shade darker my hair is previously done in a salon any suggestions ?
Thank You so much! I have never touched up my grey before and you made it sooooo very easy to do! Maybe I'll go to Beauty School! ha! all my love and good wishes and prayers to YOU! Diana (loveitpretty)
I’m so happy I really needed this video...... love you Sylvia lol I’m ur age n have grey hair too eewwww lol ❤️💗💗💕💕.... yes I wanna virtual consultation....... omg so happy for this video 🌸
This was spot on, i loved it!!!👌😘
When you rinse out how did you keep the dark color you put on your roots from changing your blonde portion..it still looks very lite,??
Well, my girlfriend made me do this. And I really messed it up despite watching your video. I am a Butcher by trade, don't know why she thought I'd be able to pull this off LOL oh well. At least while she's crying upstairs I can have some free time in the garage.
So easy!..... Not waiting till lockdown, going to buy colour this week its 40 %off... Thank you 👍😘
Thanks for the video! But the ends are getting the root colour when I wash. Any suggestion to prevent that issue??
If i want to add some lowlights show i do roots wash out then, or should i do it at same time
Thank you thank you! I don't know if I have the courage to do this...concerned it'd turn out terribly. Hair has 2 shades of blonde & ash blonde @ the roots. My root color has grown out about 2 1/2 inches, so not looking so great right now.
This was verrry helpful! ⚡️
They wouldn’t let me go lighter with that kit. There was no option for brightening or coloring bleached section. Did I miss something?
Pastor Madeline The bleaches section would be considered another color. You would need to do two colors, on for the bleached and one for the roots.
Typically with hair dye you can only lift 1-2 shades of your natural (root) color. Bleached sections can be refreshed with colored shampoos or toners.
İm a mom for two babies who is 18month and 4month, it is really hard to find time to go to the hair dresser to stay at least two hours, because there is no one can look after them except dady, today i found your channel and i love your videos even your hair colour and style it looks nice, im gonna do myself at home now
Thank you for all your tutorials! When I first saw your videos, you looked familiar and then realized I watched your Monat videos. I’m not an active rep but I use Renew Shampoo, IRT Conditioner and the IRT treatment spray. Which conditioner do you use?
Your hair looks amazing, you always do such an incredible job :) thank you for sharing these videos!
I have a question not really about roots. I made a mistale in dying my hair light ash brown. I have jetblack hair. I blught another box, same box. If I dye it again with the same shade, will my hair turn brown? And how many days before I csn color my hair again to do this
Oh and I hope you’re staying safe!! Would love to go see you soon!!
Would u recommend buying 2 kits so we can do a patch test first?
Just ordered my box! And the hilight kit too
Thank you so much this video was a blessing
Love your videos. Been following your tips for 2 yrs... I get so many compliments on my blonde tones. Can you recommend a pair of shears? I want to start to do a basic at home trim- thanks.
Would you recommend a toner after color? Does esalon offer toner? Thank You!
Soooooo to cover gray roots and it is actually growing through gray - am I using demi or perm color for roots, plus how the heck do I prevent it from running through my blonde??
I I tried to dye my hair at home and the roots are much brassier then the previously dyed lengths can I bleach my roots then dye them to match? I already tried using an ash blonde on the roots but it didn’t help.
Beautiful love all your information!
Do you have any videos on lightening the roots to ash brown without bleach?
Idk if this might be helpful to you my hairdresser told me how to do my hair, which is very blonde but it might also apply to you. She uses majirel by l'oreal, you can order it on amazon look at the color chart for the color you want and then use a developer (20 vol for lifting two tones and 30 for lifting 3 tones). It is a 2:1 ratio. Then just do it from the bottom to the top of the roots. Again, idk if that's helpful to you but it has worked out for me with majirel high lift 1/2 beige + 1/2 neutral with the 30 vol developer.
It depends on what your natural color is. A high lift color might do it but if you super dark you may need bleach. Hilift is great but has limits.
Loreal has some good choices, I've used that to go vibrant red and it didn't ravage my hair.
Great 👍 thank you I’ve just got my esalon root pack so glad you are doing this . 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 my hair is short though never see videos on short hair .
I’m in the uk do you do consulting on Instagram? I’ve just followed you x
Karriepink Mollinator Makes Me Smile I was charged $22.
If I know my Goldwell hair color formula would you be able to point me in the right direction to exactly what I need to purchase to do it at home?
What is the best brand for coloring gray hair? My hair is a level 7. Thank you?
Hey girl thanks for your tutorial 💕🤍 really you look amazing i watch many of your videos..🤩 i have a question plz answer me 😘 i need to do hair color for the roots n greys but also need to bring my highlights up n tap on it too( balayage it) .. which step is first roots coloring or highlights ? Thanks 🙏🏻 I
Very helpful. Off topic what do you have on your fsce to get that light bronze. It looks beautiful on you. I love the 10 doll salon color for 10 doll
Thanks! I just ordered it off your link!
I have very, very resistant gray. Usually have to use NN dye for resistant gray. I wonder if the eSalon would work on me?
I’ve been waiting on you!! ✌🏽😍
Sylvia!! I need you! but I guess this will work my root out growth is like a little over an inch! Can I use a Demi permanent to do my roots?
So I want to bleach a small length of my root regrowth. Any advice I have about 6 months of regrowth but I want to keep my natural hair.
I did try ESalon for my roots and was happy enough but when it came to hilites it seems their bleach/developer would need to be stronger??? by roots are dark and where I have messed around with it my hilites have gone orangey...... I am worried about doing roots and then having to do hilites over new color..
Thankyou so much, this is super helpful.
Which color to use if my natural color is chestunt?thank you❤i prefer of keune color..can you tell me?
1st thanks for sharing I am very excited to try this , I click on the link you posted for the $10 trial but it doesnt give me the deal, it starts with a lot of question and at the end i get the price of $22. And i am doing something wrong? Xoxo
I used esalon and while washing it out, even after i used water to massage my hair, I had major build up that only came out after 10 washes and finally using baking soda to get the rest of the waxy substance.
I want the black roots look with my died gray hair..but cant seem to part it right to get my scalp to look naturally grown in if u get what i mean? I want a balage i guess my hair grows in brown i like dark roots blending into my purposely grey hair ..any tips or video on doing this myself or parts
What color is 6n they don’t have that option and I like the color u used?? Please help
Was it a demi permanent too blend the grays or permanent to fully cover them?
I must be blind, I do not see a difference. Ps...love your channel
This video is to show application technique and show coverage and even saturation. And for me to cover my grays lol! I'm not actually trying to change my root color but to match my base so it’s not meant to look particularly different, just touched up! Hope this helps you too! xx
I needed to see technique. Thanks for sharing!!
Me neither 😂
HahHha me too
Me either, roots still there, but thanks for the demonstration
If your hair rebonded 2yrs ago, can you bleached from root? Thank you.
Can you use the color with foil instead like lowlights if you have very sensitive skin?
How do you keep the color from bleeding into your blond? Every time I do my roots and wash my hair, the color washes over the rest of the hair darkening the blond.
Where did you get your denim jacket? I love the color and distressing and can’t find one like this
This may be a basic question but how do I darken my roots (naturally a copper red and I color roots a neutral level 4) and not bleed that dark color on my lighter brown and blonde pieces when washing out? I’ve failed at this and need help please 😢
I had a question about redken color fusion. I read that you can only use it on virgin hair because it is alkaline. Is there a risk in putting it in hair that has been lightened all over after say, a week?
Sort of off topic, but I can't seem to find hair color that's direct dye only that's in the brown family. I only see fashion colors in the direct dye. Do browns only come in demi-permanent and permanent? TIA!
Great video!!! Thanks a lot 🙏🏻🌺
How it didn’t effect the highlights when you rinse down the dark color over??
I love the color of your hair!
