*I am NOT a hairdresser, and I do not claim to be a professional when it comes to coloring hair. This is just a video of how I color my hair myself. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, or you have never colored your hair yourself, I definitely suggest that you not try this at home, and go to a salon! :)
Thank you so much for watching! XOXO Alix - Навчання та стиль
I'm an original blonde and dyed it black so I get you girl. It's annoying.
@Ocean Sky Love your handle name, Ocean Sky! You must live on the coast..
DUDE. I relate to this soo hard. I was also born naturally blonde and it just does not resonate with me. I love my hair dark and my roots grow so fast. My biggest pet peeve is people thinking I’m bald when it’s really just my natural roots growing in 😂 So this was super refreshing to see that others deal with this as well. Thank you 🙏 💕
Omg YES! The struggle is so real lol 😩🤣💗
"Normally I can see regrowth within a few days of coloring my hair"- that statement touched my soul. It bugs the hell out of me too.
Its funny how blonde people want to dye their hair dark and people with dark hair want to dye their hair blonde
Not really funny
@Sum.K ok karen who broke you
.
I think people like to experiment different things feels good sometimes
@Desert Moon lee yess ik
Thank you! Thank you! You made this video simple and now I'm not scared to do this at home instead of waiting in between hair colors at the salon!
When its quarantine time because of corona virus and all salons are closed, this is a helpfull video
yess same not for me but I'm doing my mom's hair
@@iv3414 Me too - usually go every 4 weeks to have my roots done. Years since I've done it myself as I always end up accidentally staining something in the bathroom
Absolutely!
Same doing my mom’s hair 🤣
@@ArtsyRainy 😂my mom's like if you do this right now I can save money in the future
Thank you for the easy and straight forward video! When I color my hair I apply Vaseline to the skin around my hairline so that it doesn’t dye my forehead! ❤️
lol her natural hair color is the color i dye my hair into, and her deep black shade is actually my natural hair color
Theea M Isn’t that always the way? Curly haired girls want straight hair, straight hair girls want curly... etc., etc., etc.,
We all want what we don't have!
I love dark hair and blue eyes! I’m so jealous!
Thank you so much for the tips I've been doing a whole head root touch up your way is easier faster and can do it more often love it thank you very much 😘❤️
Thank you for watching! 💗 glad you found it helpful
Thank you so much, Alix, for this video! I am learning how to do my own hair at home, and now I know how to do my brows as well!
So happy to help! Xoxo
I hate regrowth too! Im same, i do mine in home whenever roots show where its noticeable, and go to salon like every once a while, my hair grows kinda slow. Thanks for this video! Helps to do it more better!
Hey thank you so so much! I haven’t had my roots done since last March. Goldwell products are really good and I just wanted to be sure to use them properly 💕💕💕
This was a very helpful video. I have never, ever colored my hair at home. My mom never did either. So I had zero frame of reference. Due to Covid-19, my salon has been closed for weeks. But they were good enough to offer clients who were interested root touch up kits to do at home. I was down with that. So they mixed up my color formula in 2 small containers. I had to combine them together in a small bowl. The kit also included a brush and 2 pages of directions. But I wanted to see a video too. I needed that visual since I had never done this before. I looked around and saw whole head hair color videos, squeezing color onto your hair from a tube videos. But I needed a root touch up video using a brush. And thankfully I found your video. It was very informative, my hair came out great, and I told my salon to reference this video in their directions to clients. Thank you so much for posting this.
Thank you SO much for sharing my video with your clients! I've seen many salons (including the one I work at) putting together at-home kits for clients, which is amazing. I'm so glad I could help! 💗
@@AlixGibbs seriously, your video was the best. Worked like a charm.
This helped me so much, Im taking class in cosmetology and hopefully this helped in the long run
What a great idea for ur brows .I usually use a tiny slanted makeup brow brush but I’m gonna try the disposable mascara wand this time
Thanks for sharing, my roots are white 😩 and my highlights get too caught up with color. I usually have to cover my roots every ten days. You had great ideas how to accomplish this and even included eyebrows. I didn’t know Sally’s carried that color remover. Thanks so much, great video!
Yes the dark hair suits you well with your light eyes. How do you feel about clairol root touch up?
I never tried it, but my mom uses it and she loves it!
I use it, and it’s amazing!
Agreed, that's what I do too.
Thank you! I’ve been thinking of coloring my own roots. This helped :)
THIS WAS SO HELPFUL girl!!! I have light brown roots and I also color my hair with 4n but was using 20 v bc that's what the color suggested but my roots were turning almost orangey brown and not blending. SO I just picked up 10 v and I'm going to give it a go🤞💜🤞💜🤞💜🤞
Hope it went well! 💗
Thank you for sharing, Alix. I think I can do this! Light a candle for me!
Hope it went well! 💗
Such great tips! Thank you so much!!!
Your hair is so pretty! Thanks for sharing, I can’t wait to do mine at home.. I have the opposite hair, I’m born with black hair.. lol
I sort of have the same issue with my roots haha. The Clairol 2bb root recover works so well and I even shampooed when it says to just rinse and the colour was still vibrant.
Let’s just hope it lasts
Super easy to understand, thank you! If you happen to see this question and respond, that would be awesome: if you're covering grey hair at the roots do you use a 10 or 20 developer? My hair is naturally dark and I have colored it a 2VV shade that lightened it a bit. I used 20 developer due to the grey hairs. I was going to stick with the 20 developer because of the greys and the little bit of lightening that occured so everything matches, but I figured I'd ask. I assume because your hair is lighter and you're darkening it you can use the lower volume developer to minimize damage?
Thank you again for sharing the video.
This is exactly how I do mine with ion dark brown. What do you use to get your hair so shiny? It’s so pretty!
Good to know that I'm not the only one who dies her her as soon as the roots ar coming out. I just must wait a bit longer, as it is not a great idea to overlap with bleach. I actually love dying an bleaching my hair so I'm having the hardest time waiting lol
oml same
Great job! Very helpful. Will try this. Thanks.
Nice video, thank you! What do you do if you want your natural hair back? I want to go black soo badly but I know that I want to go back to blonde again someday.
I have the same issue. Thank you so much for the video. This helps so much.
Helpful to see a video for blondes. Me too, and I colour medium or light brown. Have been using Clairol Natural Instincts, $10/box. I haven't tried the root touch up product yet, but might. It would seem a waste to use a whole box just to do roots after 2 weeks. I'm fine doing the box every month though. Any advice on Clairol's semi-permanent root touch up on blonde roots? I've seen that it doesn't work on grey.
Thank you. My wife is making me do this to her. Wish me luck:)
Super helpful during during quarantine!
I was looking at the products you listed below and was wondering how much of this you would recommend to buy if you’re wanting to dye all your hair from blonde to brown/black and you have super thick hair?? ☺️
Love your hair, thank you for the tutorial. I also do my front hairline last.
Thank you so much! Your dark color is my natural color but I get a few grays come in. I am an esthetician at a spa/ salon and I try and watch the girls but like you I don’t want to bug them to color me all the time lol. Thanks for the tips!☺️
💗💗💗
thank you for this !! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thank you for your video. What do you do to keep the length of your hair from fading?
This was very helpful, thank you so much!
So glad! Xoxo
Hi ! How many days prior to colouring should I wash my hair ?
You look gorgeous in the color you chose!
Great idea about the mascara wand!
Thinking of dyeing my hair a wild color before summer break rolls around and seeing how my parents react to dyed hair
Yessss! Do it girl!
Your hair is so shiny..can I ask what you use please ,? Thank you for the root touch up tutorial ..
How do you keep your hair so glossy and fresh looking? For some reason my dye always fades and looks dull and I have to dye my full head of hair to refresh it
Love the black! Exotic and stunning!
Great video. You are very good at this type of video. Do more!
Thanks!! Very helpful!!
Thanks! Really helped.
Hey Alix! I used to have black hair and I miss it. I’m naturally light ashy brown and my roots were a hassle too. Do these products make your hair dry? That was my problem with maintaining black hair. It got super dry and going back blonde made it even more damaged. But I’m always trying to find a way to maintain black hair while getting my hair healthy again!
I use the agora color ..I use light ash brown ..20 vol ..the color does come out more like a dark brown ..I dont get why my gray come out brassy ????? Any advice???
This video has been soooo helpful, thank you!! One question I have - do you do the back bottom section of your hair? If I have my hair up the hair line round my neck can be seen, so should I do that too? Do you?
Honestly I don’t usually because I don’t wear my hair up that often and if I do my roots for some reason in the back aren’t THAT noticeable. But if you do, I would deff suggest doing the back! 💗
Thank you so much...I have waited as long as I can...I need these gray roots to go away :-)
This video helped me so much! Thank you. Also, you are gorgeous.
💗💗💗
Can I ask two questions??
So anything higher than 10 vol lifts the hair and not just deposits it?
Also, please tell me your lip color here it's beautiful!
My hair turned too dark DIY. Bought a lighter color, now I have caramel roots and still dark hair. Grey roots lighter my thought.
Should I brush light brown on the roots , then, in 2 weeks do a fine cap bleaching to break up the block colour ?
Thank you! It was very useful.
this is SO helpful thank you. it looks like in balding when my light blonde hair grows in
Trust me, I know the struggle girl 😫🤣
Also, I haven't been doing my eyebrows with it. I've been using a separate $20. eyebrow dye, but am not satisfied with it. I have been warned against using hair dye on my eyebrows, I'm afraid of them turning orange... but would it be successful with the semi-permanent 6a I use?
Brown henna dye works really well for eyebrows
lol I thought most people just touched up their roots every 2-3 weeks. I also dyed my naturally sandy blonde/light brown hair black and I touch up my roots every three weeks at most because I can’t stand root growth but I just thought that was a normal thing
I’ve seen some people go like 6-8 weeks! But I’m the same way, 3 weeks is the absolute longest I’ll go lol
NEW SUBSCRIBER!!’ I too have blonde hair and dye it dark!! I hate paying $45 to cover my roots every two weeks.
Its $69.84 for me-
Thanks for the video! What lashes do you wear they're so pretty! ❤🙂
I believe in this video I'm wearing koko lashes in "Misha" 💗
My hair is also naturally light & it's dyed dark. I hate that my hair has to grow so fast because when my roots come in it starts to look like I'm balding if you see me from afar 🙃
What's a good brand of "gloss" for the hair? (Salon or drugstore).
Kristin Ess hair gloss! It’s so good. Target sells it. They have black iris, a brown gloss, a clear gloss, and a red gloss I believe.
@@marisarowley3075 Thank you both. I will definitely try.
Thank you!
Hey just one question. I have seen other videos where they hairdresser puts water into the colour mix. Is there a reason for that? My hair is dark and I would be doing a grey roots touch up. Thanks 😊
Hmm not sure, I never heard of that to be honest
do you ever go over your lenghts with the colour or do you just always do your roots? my dark hair colour fades so quickly and just doesn’t want to stay in my hair😭
Nastja years ago when I colored my hair I felt the same way, that the color faded on my ends so I used to literally put it through out my whole hair. But now I just do my roots and although the rest of my hair fades a teeny bit, I like how it looks because it looks like a subtle balayage lol. You can use a dark glaze (that you put all over your hair) that’s used to freshen up your color and it isn’t damaging on your hair like a permanent color is. Hope that helps!
Ok so what if I Have dark hair and red highlights , (or is it lowlights ) and my grey is coming in the roots every 4 weeks , Im 60, How would I add dark and not ruin the red??
so you don’t have to use a color filler before putting the dark brown color?
Thank you❤️
Best to the point demo of how to touch up roots. The intro was a bit long( she is long winded) however she is great at demonstrating the proper technique! Thank you Alix for the great video demo.
Thank you! 💗
looks very natural with brow coloured at end to match. Too many have dark hair with brows too light
such a great idea to do only part of the hair. the hardest part for me is to get the root even with the rest of the hair, very often it looks lighter or darker than the rest of the hair and it is horrible. I wonder what is the secret...maybe timing? your roots came out perfectly
I totally get what you mean, and it may be hard to tell, but the top of my hair was always a little bit darker then the middle/ends. I actually don't mind and I like it because it gives it more of a subtle ombre look
Oh my god, you are the only other blond I know of that dyes their hair black. I've been doing it fro so long the roots don;t really bother me as much anymore.
Thank you!!!!!
I only used 10 volume. My hair is lighter at the roots now. What did I do wrong
My hair is like dirty blonde but brown tone and I have curly hair so my hair looks darker but once my mom straightened my hair and it was like honey blonde or red/light brown so yea ...... also I have brown eyes it’s rare for a blonde to have brown eyes so I’m lucky ☺️
Looks great!!! What shampoo and conditioner do you use?
Also, what's a good brand of "gloss" for the hair? (Salon or drugstore).
My roots always come out lighter even though it’s the same color as I did before. I even went a shade darker so it could look uniform but still the same result. Please help !
So idk if this helps but maybe try using a higher vol developer only on your roots. When you color your hair each time it opens the cuticle and it'll be more porous. Your "roots" are new growth and they're nowhere near as porousas what you had already colored thus it would be lighter. Hope this helps! :)
HI.. I need to colour my whole hair, + the roots.
How long do you suggest to do the Roots before adding the colour to the rest of the hair?
Kristina Suh you don’t do the roots until the color grows out, you should color your whole head first
You start with coloring the roots and work to the rest of your hair, they will naturally set longer than the rest as you’re doing them first :) x
Can you use 10 volume developer?? i have been using 20 vol. with Redkin Chormatices, i use 6nn and 8nn to equal parts of 20 volume developer. someone told me use 7nn but its way to light on my roots for some reason 🤔🤷♀️
And it is REDKIN ALSO .
Thank you !!
i color every 3 weeks because of the gray .
But hair is in great condition .
LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!
Stacye Davies Aw thank you! 💕 I’m no expert but I was told you only need 10 vol to deposit color and that anything higher is used for lightening hair, but I could be wrong. Or maybe they were just talking about my hair specifically? I don’t have grays so I’m only covering blonde virgin hair, so maybe for people with more stubborn roots or grays need a stronger developer? I’m not sure. I know the higher the developer the stronger it is but I‘m sure 20 vol is fine to use it just prob works stronger. Hope that wasn’t too confusing! Lol
@@AlixGibbs Thank you so much sweetie !!!
Yes i have stubborn gray !!! LOL
You are a Doll Face
And i will be watching your channel !!!
😘❤
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
No problem at all! Happy new year to you too! 🥂🎊
@@AlixGibbs 😘❤
Not all brands offer 100% grey. To cover grey I use Sally’s Age beautiful 10vol 4N 40min every two weeks. It looks a natural black and I love this method.
Hey, great video!!! Thanks a bunch. I'm jealous of your natural blond hair, lol. I'm just the opposite; dark brown naturally and *just* dyed to be blond. Any tips to touch up the back roots of your hair yourself?
I have lighter hair now too and the maintenance for lighter hair is obv harder to do yourself at home, but but I’ll keep you posted if I find any!
Im jealous of your dark hair. I’m natural blond and dye roots medium brown every 15-20 days…. It’s very annoying, but I hate blond hair
Thank you for you for this! I’m just about to do mine, I’m definitely not as skilled as you though 🙈
I’m sure it turned out great 💗
I actually did a much better job, I’m glad I watched your video first 😂🙌🏻
Dont you need to use a red filler otherwise if you dye blonde hair dark it turns green?
Have a video of your natural hair color ?
I need to re henna my roots and am terrified of going over where it’s already colored and getting a stripe of darker hair. 😮
Watched this video as i have been selected to perform this task for the GF today. 😂😂😂😂
Regular hair coloring stings my scalp. Is there a organic product that you recommend
Herbatint made in Italy. It does not burn and it is gulten and ammonia free. There’s no strong smell, literally smells like tea. Also with this product you can mix two colours together and does not fade quickly. I use It to colour my natural pale blonde hair a medium golden brown. You can buy it at a whole foods store or amazon, here is the website: www.herbatint.com/en/discover-herbatint’s-colours
Do you have naturally straight hair?
Do you ever have to dye your whole head with that same dark brown? Btw, your hair is so so so pretty!
No, I only do my roots when they grow in
I keep coming back to your video when i need to dye my hair!!🤣 i thuoght, why not just subscribe? I'm sure i can learn a lot from you 😁 Subscribed!!! Thank you!!!
Aw thank you so much! 💗💗💗
i’m a natural red head with my hair dyed dark brown and when my roots grow back, they are so shiny and noticeable and it sucksssss
M Nelson how long have you been dying your roots ? I'm redhead too and I dyed my hair black.. I'm kinda afraid of grey roots ..
Natý Look mine look green ish when they come in lol I’m naturally strawberry blonde red
blonde is so pretty
Thank you so much for putting together this organized video. My stylist is 2 hours away so I’m going rouge!
you didn't do the back of your head for your roots??
pretty girl love you ❤
You are so pretty without makeup.
Nice video
I was always told to only rinse your hair color out, then use color safe conditioner and rinse again. Then don't use shampoo until 24hr later. Most of the the tutorials I see now say shampoo hair then condition after coloring your hair. I would think that would remove too much of the color. I'm very confused now. Anyone have an explanation or what way is better?
Jen P. I get what you’re saying, I always felt like it would remove the color too but I’ve always shampooed after coloring and that’s what we do in the salon I work at
also the color chemicals shouldn't stay on the hair for longer than it takes to process and just rinsing with water doesn't take it out enough.
If you're using a deposit only dye (something with no bleach/developer like Manic Panic, Adore, Arctic Fox, etc) then you shoudn't shampoo as it will strip too much colour and the dye isn't going to harm your hair by staying in there. However, if there's bleach in the dye you're using you definitely want to get that shampooed out so it doesn't continue to harm your hair until your next wash.
I accidentally bought 20 volume will it still work
Yes! I actually use 20 vol now when I do my roots since I’ve started to get a few grays. It’s just a little stronger and good for hair that’s stubborn or doesn’t cover with color easily
