    DUDE. I relate to this soo hard. I was also born naturally blonde and it just does not resonate with me. I love my hair dark and my roots grow so fast. My biggest pet peeve is people thinking I’m bald when it’s really just my natural roots growing in 😂 So this was super refreshing to see that others deal with this as well. Thank you 🙏 💕

    This was a very helpful video. I have never, ever colored my hair at home. My mom never did either. So I had zero frame of reference. Due to Covid-19, my salon has been closed for weeks. But they were good enough to offer clients who were interested root touch up kits to do at home. I was down with that. So they mixed up my color formula in 2 small containers. I had to combine them together in a small bowl. The kit also included a brush and 2 pages of directions. But I wanted to see a video too. I needed that visual since I had never done this before. I looked around and saw whole head hair color videos, squeezing color onto your hair from a tube videos. But I needed a root touch up video using a brush. And thankfully I found your video. It was very informative, my hair came out great, and I told my salon to reference this video in their directions to clients. Thank you so much for posting this.

    Super easy to understand, thank you! If you happen to see this question and respond, that would be awesome: if you're covering grey hair at the roots do you use a 10 or 20 developer? My hair is naturally dark and I have colored it a 2VV shade that lightened it a bit. I used 20 developer due to the grey hairs. I was going to stick with the 20 developer because of the greys and the little bit of lightening that occured so everything matches, but I figured I'd ask. I assume because your hair is lighter and you're darkening it you can use the lower volume developer to minimize damage?
    Thank you again for sharing the video.

    Helpful to see a video for blondes. Me too, and I colour medium or light brown. Have been using Clairol Natural Instincts, $10/box. I haven't tried the root touch up product yet, but might. It would seem a waste to use a whole box just to do roots after 2 weeks. I'm fine doing the box every month though. Any advice on Clairol's semi-permanent root touch up on blonde roots? I've seen that it doesn't work on grey.

    Hey Alix! I used to have black hair and I miss it. I’m naturally light ashy brown and my roots were a hassle too. Do these products make your hair dry? • @AlixGibbs
      @AlixGibbs  5 років тому +5

      Nastja years ago when I colored my hair I felt the same way, that the color faded on my ends so I used to literally put it through out my whole hair. But now I just do my roots and although the rest of my hair fades a teeny bit, I like how it looks because it looks like a subtle balayage lol. You can use a dark glaze (that you put all over your hair) that’s used to freshen up your color and it isn’t damaging on your hair like a permanent color is. Hope that helps!

      So idk if this helps but maybe try using a higher vol developer only on your roots. When you color your hair each time it opens the cuticle and it'll be more porous. Your "roots" are new growth and they're nowhere near as porousas what you had already colored thus it would be lighter. Hope this helps! :)

      Stacye Davies Aw thank you! 💕 I’m no expert but I was told you only need 10 vol to deposit color and that anything higher is used for lightening hair, but I could be wrong. Or maybe they were just talking about my hair specifically? I don’t have grays so I’m only covering blonde virgin hair, so maybe for people with more stubborn roots or grays need a stronger developer? I’m not sure. I know the higher the developer the stronger it is but I‘m sure 20 vol is fine to use it just prob works stronger. Hope that wasn’t too confusing! Lol

      Not all brands offer 100% grey. To cover grey I use Sally’s Age beautiful 10vol 4N 40min every two weeks. It looks a natural black and I love this method.

    Hey, great video!!! Thanks a bunch. I'm jealous of your natural blond hair, lol. I'm just the opposite; dark brown naturally and *just* dyed to be blond. Any tips to touch up the back roots of your hair yourself?

    Regular hair coloring stings my scalp. Is there a organic product that you recommend

    • @antidrugs4335
      @antidrugs4335 3 роки тому

      Herbatint made in Italy. It does not burn and it is gulten and ammonia free. There’s no strong smell, literally smells like tea. Also with this product you can mix two colours together and does not fade quickly. I use It to colour my natural pale blonde hair a medium golden brown. You can buy it at a whole foods store or amazon, here is the website: www.herbatint.com/en/discover-herbatint’s-colours

    I was always told to only rinse your hair color out, then use color safe conditioner and rinse again. Then don't use shampoo until 24hr later. Most of the the tutorials I see now say shampoo hair then condition after coloring your hair. I would think that would remove too much of the color. I'm very confused now. Anyone have an explanation or what way is better?

    • @AlixGibbs
      @AlixGibbs  5 років тому

      Jen P. I get what you’re saying, I always felt like it would remove the color too but I’ve always shampooed after coloring and that’s what we do in the salon I work at

      also the color chemicals shouldn't stay on the hair for longer than it takes to process and just rinsing with water doesn't take it out enough.

      If you're using a deposit only dye (something with no bleach/developer like Manic Panic, Adore, Arctic Fox, etc) then you shoudn't shampoo as it will strip too much colour and the dye isn't going to harm your hair by staying in there. However, if there's bleach in the dye you're using you definitely want to get that shampooed out so it doesn't continue to harm your hair until your next wash.

    I accidentally bought 20 volume will it still work

    • @AlixGibbs
      @AlixGibbs  2 роки тому

      Yes! I actually use 20 vol now when I do my roots since I’ve started to get a few grays. It’s just a little stronger and good for hair that’s stubborn or doesn’t cover with color easily
