I’ve never been clear on quite what the point of this version was; as with all remakes, you want to cash in on a pre-sold name, but it’s not like *Straw Dogs* is a hot piece of intellectual property. As with many of the other horror remakes-*Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Last House on the Left*-they’re better technically, but that sort of misses the point. So many of these 70s pictures were (consciously or not) reactions to social and political upheavals in the Vietnam-era, and removing the context kind of makes them feel pointless. This remake isn’t s terrible film, and it’s technically well-mounted, but it brings nothing new to a movie with, whatever is wrong with it, retained its provocative power decades later.
@IrishMorgenstern Trust, you're the only one. Let's not forget to mention she was running barefoot. Even IF she had on a sport bra, it wouldn't have made her jogging attire any less absurd.
@TheGiantRobot no, it's not....it's a well-known plot point in a old classic film. that would be like saying "Norman's mama is in his head" in Psycho is considered a spoiler.
When you spend money to go see a movie, go into it optimistically and form your own opinion about it. It gets old seeing people come out of a movie talking about how it sucked and that it didn't look good in the previews or reviews.I saw this movie today and I thought it was pretty good. Some fat woman walked out of the movie behind me (out of breath from walking down the stairs) talking about how she hated the underdeveloped characters. If you want better character development read a book.
I Love Straw Dogs Remake I thought it was better the Original, This is Controversial But I really didn’t care for it, The Remake has Great Action, Likable Characters, Great Tension, Great Cast, Well Written, I thought James Marsden, Kate Bosworth, Alexander Skarsgård, James Woods, Dominic Purcell, Laz Alonso, & Walton Goggins did a Great Job, Very Underrated, I would say it’s 1 of my Favorite Thrillers & Films Of 2011, too Bad it bombed Cause it’s a Great Movie IMO
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed how her running attire wasn't even close to practical. In all fairness, had she just worn a sports bra with it, it would have done better.
Wasn’t she on her driveway, on her land? She could’ve ran naked and it would’ve been just fine and acceptable. Practical or not, how can whether or not she wore a bra be up for debate? Only in this narcissistic world. Where everything deserves judgment. SMH
I love TYT. And I even like Ben for the most part, even though he interrupts people way too fucking much. However, how can you do a movie review on a remake without seeing the original?? Seriously, it's unacceptable. This is strike two, after the second video I've watched on this channel.
How can you call yourself a movie reviewer and not have seen the Peckinpah original?! This discussion just sounds silly because many of the scenes and subplots were taken directly from the original.
How in the hell do you not know this is a remake? Home Alone was partly influenced by the original 1971 Straw Dogs during its production. The production designer on H.A. told people they were making a children's version of Straw Dogs.
@americanbiwi Yeah... it's Peckinpah's worst film IMO. Bring Me the Head of Alferdo Garcia is a far more interesting film. Basically Warren Oates >>> Dustin Hoffman.
B.M.T.H.O.A.G. is my favorite Peckinpah, but how is Straw Dogs his worst? Convoy, Osterman Weekend, Killer Elite (which was flat-out unwatchable)? How are those better than Straw Dogs?
Can you explain why people view this one as inferior? Im not attacking your opinion I just dont really get it, as the remak seems to be almost the same plot as the original and most significant events play out the same beat for beat. The only major difference I can tell is the violence feels a little more visceral due to the modern special fx. I guess I just cant seem to see significant differences between the two to warrant one being held in high regard, and the other being seen as an inferior fascimile.
@@burnttoastburt1467 Everything. The acting, production values, script, setting. One is a classic film, the other a poor imitation. It is almost as bad a copy as "The Italian Job".
To be fair, you're then victimising the girl and saying that she was "asking for it" ? Nice man, also if you had seen the film you would realise that she doesn't call him a coward. Watch your shit before you pick shit out to nag.
well she was also running on her own property where she didnt expect anyone to roll up on her
I agree. I have a big fence around my yard so I dress like a hobo in my backyard. No panties or bra doesn't mean I'm asking for anything....
Love that 3-way talk over each other at 6:50 . But what's Christy gonna think of Matt's line at 7:02 ?
Alexander Skarsgard. I'd watch him in pretty much anything
Amen !
David really pissed me off at the end of this film, so did the stupid guy who's daughter went missing.

Ya they wanted to make her look like 💩 on purpose. Mental warfare.
I wonder if this movie should be retitled "The Tea Party vs. Evolved People."
What I can tell what I read about this this Re-make is the The City People & the Country People are shown as a Sterotypes.
Lean nuestra reseña de la nueva versión de “Straw Dogs” en nuestro sitio en español!
dunno why but this movie reminds me of last house on the left
Man, I spent the past hour trying to remember what the name of this movie was. This movie was badass!
How was this shitty watered-down neutered remake "badass"? Have you even bothered watching the original '71 movie?
I love TYT. And I even like Ben for the most part, even though he interrupts people way too fucking much. However, how can you do a movie review on a remake without seeing the original?? Seriously, it's unacceptable. This is strike two, after the second video I've watched on this channel.
I can't wait for Jonathan Kim to review this movie after it has been out for a week.
movie reviews guys that have never seen Straw Dogs?
Talking about women’s rights and demeaning references only to make a demeaning reference. SMH 🙄

me neither
@quaxk thank you i thought it was just me
@GuyFromNewark88 damn it, not again! ah well, I still upvoted you for creativity.
@AudioForAnarchists yeah same here lol
no christy=no fun. although i am glad ben is back
*as
God. I didn't think it was possible to make Peckinpah's movie less appealing.
@GuyFromNewark88 - Arrrgh! I've been anti-Rickrolled!!!
A remake of Straw Dogs? No, no, no...
The remake is superficial and fails to examine the its interesting themes of the original.
rottentomatoes - the worst pace to go for reviews
Its the best place for reviews. If they give a movie a bad review, then you know it's a good movie to watch.
REVIEW RED STAT !!!!!!!
So this is basically an adult version of home alone?
How in the hell do you not know this is a remake? Home Alone was partly influenced by the original 1971 Straw Dogs during its production. The production designer on H.A. told people they were making a children's version of Straw Dogs.
@GuyFromNewark88 Never going to give you up.
@GuyFromNewark88 Fuckin Rick rolls......
Yeah, no thanks. Even Eric Northman coudn't get me to see this shit.
he's freakin gorgeous. I'd watch him do just about anything.
@americanbiwi

@GuyFromNewark88 What? the 12% that know English?
wow rape scene? yup that's a spoiler for me.
Yet another example of a poor remake of an original classic. Why does Hollywood keep doing this? Go and see the original!

Dumb small po-dunk town mentality.

I don't comment trashy Movies, and this one certainly is !!!

Charcaters are all dead these days. Flat lifeless artificial lousy writing, rehashes and spew mean I longer have cable or go to the movies
so this is exactly the same as I spit on your grave? aka one of the worse movies in history.
