People are afraid of aliens because stories tell us that the first thing they do is cut us open. We think that's horrible and monstrous, yet when watching this animation, I think we can all agree that the curiosity of humanity would lead us to do exactly the same.
It's like in Lovecraft's Mountains of Madness. The human explorers think the Elder Things are dead and vivisect them. Then they awake and, seeing what the humans did, the Elder Things do the same to them.
@@noahgreer1497 if You’re a God Of Chaos (Hastur, Not You) dedicated to bringing misery into this universe I guess there’s no such thing as “Vacation”…
Ive never been so captured by a narrated story before - am normally a visual person but this does an exquisite job at keeping you hooked from start to finish
Starting with the description of the monsters by saying they are indescribable while describing some of their features still is truly the most lovecraft thing ever, hats off to you good sir, this story is a work of pure art and as a lovecraft fan, I approve.
This cosmic horror-inspired video was a captivating descent into the abyss of the unknown. The eerie visuals and haunting atmosphere transported me to a realm where reality itself seemed to unravel. A true homage to H.P. Lovecraft's cosmic dread!
The storyteller has the best deep and ominous voice that really puts you in the mood. Everything works together very well to make it an enjoyably scary experience.
I felt bad for the patient, he never attacked them or killed anyone. He just existed, but at least he saw some forms of compassion. Either that or it was to play nice so his mask could get taken off
My first thought when the prisoners back was revealed was: “I quess they found out how he breathes”. But in all seriousness, I love cosmic horror. This video has amazing narration and great pacing! Your(?) voice is a great match with horror type stories as well!
I like this. It hits all the right notes of Lovecraftian horror without an explanation or names for these unknowable or anchient abominations. I think that's the best way to write cosmic horror.
This narration is the one I've enjoyed the most of every other audiobook! The slower pace and pitch of the voice really immerses the listener in the eerie story 😌♥️
I mean, other than defending itself and leaving, what did the Man From The Sea do? It basically got abducted and tortured, so its reaction was understandable.
Without the video’s illustrations one can almost paint a near identical picture in one’s mind of the happenings within this story, based on the very fabric of our own trauma and fear. Very very well written and very well articulated.
This is one of my favorite horror shorts about one of my favorite cosmic entities. And I really like the design of the King in this one. I've always pictured him as having a humanoid shape, but his robes and mask hiding a completely inhuman anatomy. Having the mask break away and set it free is a great story telling mechanic
No joke, every description of the stranger makes me think the narrator horribly rude. Also the Stranger has a very appropriate reaction to medical malpractice
Hastur, came to us... From the deepest parts of the darkness in space... And... He came to fulfill his wish... Raising the dead to serve, in the army that will rip this universe to shreds... Yes, the time will come for that, and may the dead raise, and smell the incense!
Along the shore the cloud waves break, The twin suns sink behind the lake, The shadows lengthen In Carcosa. This is ridiculously well done, and touches on one of my absolutely favorite cosmic horror entities. I'm gonna go watch it a few more times.
I'm sitting at an airport restaurant with my headphones on listening to this when the server taps me on the shoulder to deliver my food. I jumped so violently that I scared her as well as myself.
This was absolutely DELICIOUS. I really enjoyed the story and the animation made it even better. I'm really stopping by to praise the storyline today. It hit my favorite spots of cosmic horror Thank you very much for this
This would make a great, expanded comics story. LMK: have your people call my people.. ;) Or better still, call David Finch! The creature designs at the end were VERY GOOD!
Man this is what I needed. I'm tired of storytelling videos that have overstimulating videos playing that have nothing to do with the story. At least relate it to the subject.
This is absolutely incredible! Amazing work here creating all this, the story you've made is great and I just loved the images you made to go alongside - the one of the man ripping open his mask is just phenomenal.
I had a phase where all I wanted to do was read H.P. Lovecraft and horror stories but got busy with school work, this definitely got me back into that phase!
Wow, I really enjoyed this! From the artwork, to the story, to the narrator's voice. It really embodies the Lovecraftian horror of encountering something extremely powerful, and the inability to comprehend it. And also how it was all indifferent chance. In a vast ocean, this "Man from the Sea" stumbled upon a spec of life, that could set it free.
This truly amazing the music and art really gives you a sense of dread, and the narration is really haunting. This gives me inspiration to finish my own Lovecraftian story thanks
Even knowing about several horrror stories and such like this, nothing brought more terror and fear to the idea of large dark bodies of water then Shadow Slave, with a combination of the dark sea and LO49
In story I'm writing main character is a sort of nyarlathotep, only good thing about him is him preventing the Azathoth like figure from consuming the world, of course he does it for self gratification, establishing cult around himself, remaking the people and environment in his image, crawling towards singularity, but his own indulgent nature prevents him from turning his victims into mindless automatons. I didn't even start by writing a lovecraftian story, characters over time grew into the lovecraftian molds.
2:57 Real talk, if I was working in a military base's infirmary and saw _that_ on our new prisoner, I'd probably just drop my tools, walk straight to the mess, nick a couple bottles of whiskey and a chair, and walk to the opposite end of the island to get wasted until this all blows over, all the while whistling the chorus of _"Fuck This Shit, I'm Out"_ by The Theme Song. At least if I got black-out drunk, the liquor would somewhat dull my perceptions and memory formation to whatever impossible madness is about to go down. And if anyone tried to impede, threaten, or reprimand me, I would not give a damn to anything short of a squad of MPs training their guns on me. Hell, being thrown in the brig for insubordination or desertion would probably be the second safest place to be when the shit inevitably hits the fan.
