Until one Friday service we had where the theme was something related to anointing, (can't remember well )... Anyways, in this service she got that encounter she had been looking for only that it came in the form of her being drunk in ceaseless tongues for over 5 hours. Our senior pastor had to do his own prayer to thank God for her encounter and ask him to tone it down a bit so that she could go home😂 Our pastor always tells us that we should be careful what we ask, cause many times God is happy to see us wanting to participate and he'll expressly show how happy he is by giving surplus of what we asked for. Another example, which is an even more funny one is the time we did a church 5 days prayer retreat. One of our members had been praying for one God to open his eyes to see the things of the spirit... God did and it didn't take 2 days for bro to start praying that God should close it back🤣😭

I used to briefly judge short film competitions, and this is great: pithy, scary, and a great performance from the lead. Simple and so effective. Very much in keeping with cosmic horror without the obvious tentacle monsters.
This is incredible - probably some of the most powerful cosmic horror I've seen, in such a raw and personal form. Also, as an avid 40k fan, I imagine this is what happens when the Gods notice you...
I loved it. When you invest so much into an idea that exists solely in your mind, the moment you cry for it to reveal itself you realize you're really blind.
The cinematography is great. I love how the actress feel angry and disbelieved in the same time, before the climax. And the deity for sure, is a one hell of a deity
@@MattSears I've watched Toby, Tabitha and The Sky. For their respective horror sub-genres, they are well-made. I like 'Tabitha' the most, particularly because of the build-up, how you 'double' your mother in same scene, and the unexpected ending. The murder scene looks disturbing although there's no visual of it. But I have to credit 'The Sky' for its almost-ethereal CGI and VFX
It amazes me how many of these short stories ,here on YT, are far more better than Hollywood's attempts. For the last 10 or so years, Hollywood had been doing " JUMP SCARE " films, which i found very enjoyable, BACK THEN, but after awhile it became to predictable and common place. We need more Horror like THE VOID and THE MIST. There's a few others that are escaping me st the moment.
Such gorgeous filming and clipping! I think the only thing I'd change about the whole thing is the ending, it would be much more terrifying if she didn't end up "old"/petrified in this way, but instead opened her eyes which now had a slightly changed iris, and either said something to the effect of "I see what I must do now" (or simply didn't speak at all) and then got up and walk out of camera -presumably up to no good, with no real closure as to what that might be.
this was unbelievably great. At first i had the impression she was just a whinging old woman, but wow, what a twist at the end. great special effects too.

Yes I want this too ... someone give matt all the funding he needs so he can make a feature length version of his trailers "The Gate" and "The Anomoly" .... let's get seriously into the weeds of cosmic dread and other dimensional terror and body horror .... matts leading the charge 👍🏻💪🏻

@@thecosmiclovecraftian Hello fellow Lovecraftian fan. I so enjoyed the trailer for "The gate" somehow my mind starting to go "we shouldn´t be here" and that is so freaking scary. 100% Agree with you, Matt is leading the charge. We need honest and scary cosmic horrors. A question, No need to answer if you don´t want to, but... what do you feel about "nihilistic" horrors? Not really sure, by the way, if it is a true term in horror, but the feeling of it "that everything is going to (bliiip) and so on" it gets me in a way. Sorry for the long text and late reply. Stay safe.
@@pekinoboI didn't know what nihilistic horror meant so I looked it up and found this definition "Nihilism is the view that there are no values; that, in the grand scheme of things nothing we do is important, and everything we hold dear will be swallowed by a gaping, cold void" If this is correct, then yes this kind of horror really gets me too, it's terrifying, and I can spend way too much time sometimes thinking about how everything and everyone we love will be gone some day in the next 80 ish years, ..... I can't even explain why I love cosmic horror and that feeling of dread so much ... and look for films that depict that feeling of utter despair and Foreboding.... possibly because I know its a safe dread, and it's not in the real world... and then my mind starts questioning whether it could all be real and lovecraft was mentally ill because he knew all this stuff he wrote of was based on knowledge he had ...... it's a hell of a can of worms for your mind to open
This deserves way more credit. The cosmic horror vibe was here perfectly, if there’s more made from this I’d watch it no questions ask. When she’s begging that she’s scared I knew it was about to get serious.

Another outstanding piece from Mr. Sears! The moment she opened her eyes was the same moment I had to turn on my lights! You consistently cast the best actors and somehow manage to tell stories that are not only deeply relatable but also profoundly true. The horror in your films feels so authentic because it comes from a place we've all experienced. Each scene, though brief, is powerful and resonates with the connection between life and fear. Simply incredible! Bravo!
It was fine af .... totally fire 🔥❤️. I love it ❤️. I remember reading something similar to this in a Lovecraft's story. I forgot the name of the story, but in that too, there was a human who could see into the darkness and the beings who lived in that darkness, but one day a creature or a god stared right back at him and from that point on his life changed. Thank you for bringing such a nice story into live action. ❤️🔥
The fact that makes it scary is it makes you wonder whats really out there whats beyond this small world we live in it opens up your curiosity but you will never get to see it humans cant even make it past the moon without countless tries so we may never get to see what lurks in the dark cold abyss of outer space.
@@ReneeSe-entertainer-actress of course!! and I even noticed you played a shorter screentime role in The Sky, but I enjoyed your appearance in that film nonetheless! you clearly have a tendency of being featured in amazing horror works, and I trust for good reason too! 🖤
Nice short film! :) The monolith and the surroundings gave me Lovecraft-country vibes, reminding me of the setting for 'The Dunwich Horror' and 'Colour Out of Space,' and that den with the trees that the monolith was in felt appropriately isolated and alone for what happens. :) The way the veins in the eyes MOVED like they were worms squirming around inside the eyeballs quite unnerved me. The overwhelming sound you used, the sheer UNSETTLING sight of that black maw opening up in the heart of that otherwise-beautiful nebula and spreading out at the edges to consume it, the way it looks inside like we're entering a gateway to Hell itself... It gave me 'Nope' (2022) rodeo abduction scene vibes. And "entering from Hell" vibes aside, the whole sequence even before it turned dark really made me feel like we're so small and helpless, like when seeing the wider universe in this way we are as leaves blown along by the wind. That sequence of yours really has made me wonder if written literature really can convey the same sense of raw terror and dread and panic in cosmic horror that this live-action version does. You made the woman out to be quite a horror genre-typical Asshole Victim when she started getting sarcastic and snarky with whatever Old One she was praying to, and I figured in that moment that the thing was answering her prayer to PUNISH her - she and others like her were kept from the truth as a blessing. :)
Thanks so much for watching and this awesome response!! Really appreciate the time you took to write this. I also really like your interpretation of the ending - hiding the truth as a blessing, is a really nice take!! I wasn't originally thinking of the deity/god as particularly vengeful, it's more that just simply being in the presence of something so beyond our reality and understanding is enough to tear her apart mentally and physically. But, I like to leave my films open to be interpretation because it's always really nice to hear peoples different responses!
You are capable of knowing these things as in order for God to truly be God He must be perfect in all His ways, without the capacity for lying because to lie is to promise something that one either cannot deliver or has no intention of actually delivering. Neither of these things can be true of God since there is no thing that He is not capable of doing and for Him to promise something that He never actually had the intention of doing would mean that there is some level of bitterness in Him which would make Him incomplete within Himself, which is impossible because a being which is perfect in all of His ways cannot be lacking something internally which would cause Him to delight in the suffering of one of His created beings.
@@seandevine3695 "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many."- Romans 5: 12-15 Next grievance?
as a fervent admirer of cosmic and lovecraftian horror, i very much appreciated the focused, well-acted simplicity of this piece. however, i was a bit disappointed by how the ending was delivered (i.e., the visual transformation). the exquisite promise of this genre is that there are realities too vast and incomprehensible to be held within our feeble human minds, no matter how wise and powerful we imagine ourselves to be. this concept alone is enough to instil profound existential terror; forcible exposure to their awful, naked forms are sure to crush the soul and drive one mad. to deliver this dreadful unto a newly-grieving widow, her heart laid bare as she pleads with her until-now-unchallenged source of spiritual strength, is traumatic and terrifying in itself, without need of crude visual reinforcement. in her hour of greatest need, her faith has been confirmed outright as she is touched by the hand of god.... only to discover that god is in truth utterly incomprehensible, bitterly cold... and terrifyingly malevolent. perhaps a bit of abject terror and bleeding-from-the-ears would have sufficed. regardless, good job.
Cheers! Yeah I could have held back a little on the physical effects a little. I'm a big fan of body horror also so wanted to infuse a little of that in there too. Quite often cosmic horror and body horror seem to go hand in hand. Originally The God was going to have even more of a presence in this world, but it started diluting the idea a bit so I stripped that back. But I did like the idea of seeing something so terrifying/powerful that it has a drastic physical effect. But you're right, it could have worked either way.

@@adw6894 it's not about being loving. What the OP meant is that you can't see the face of God, or of a god, and live, or even stay the same. Specially in cosmic horror, people who'd become aware of the existence of gods would go insane or die horrible deaths.
@@doomedarts That's god's fault. Killing someone just because they see your face? What kind of cruel thing would do that? No respect to cruelty
Beautiful, gut-wrenching work as always, Matt. I wish more people would explore the horror that stems from not knowing which is worse: There being no God or there being a God who judges us. Thank you for also giving us a behind-the-scenes peek! Love your work, keep it up!
Thank you!! You're more than welcome. It's a very scary thought for sure, I think the former scares me more. Glad you enjoyed the BTS too. Always working on new stuff so hopefully won't be too long before the next piece!
The second, definitely the second.
It isn't good or evil it's chaos , Azathoth is so powerful that looking into it is pure madness to a human there is no morality with cosmic horror only humans losing thier sanity becaus ether cannot handle such an uncomphrehendable being , Azathoth is like a supermassive black hole that destroys and consumes everything in its path and cares nothing for personal ideology or belief just as the universe cares nothing for us either it feels nothing it simply exists and is Chaos itself !

Thanks so much for your comment about my acting :)
Not me at 4:02 snapping and clapping at the screen, screaming 'That's what you wanted!' and knocking my drink over. Holy crow. This is TERRIFYING. 👏👏🌹🌹 Brav-o. Seriously. That was really great. 10/10 recommend to anyone skimming the comments.

Love cosmic horror and I love indie films. They just do it best
Thank you! I'm hoping you're counting this as one of them. Ha.
i LOVE this. no jumpscares, just so, so much creepiness and unease
Be careful for what you ask for, you just might get it! Excellent story!

Really cool. The cinematography, the sound, everything. Epic.
I used to briefly judge short film competitions, and this is great: pithy, scary, and a great performance from the lead. Simple and so effective. Very much in keeping with cosmic horror without the obvious tentacle monsters.
As a fellow filmmaker, I really enjoy your short films. Well done and I hope to see more. Subscribed!
Amazing! Everything from the camera work to the sound. Pitch perfect!
Thank you! Was great fun making this. Mike score was amazing, it'll be out on Spotify soon.
Wow! That was fantastic! So is the other short from this film maker, The Sky.
The Sky, Tabitha and many others :)
This is incredible - probably some of the most powerful cosmic horror I've seen, in such a raw and personal form.
Also, as an avid 40k fan, I imagine this is what happens when the Gods notice you...
Pretty Sure it was khorn 😂 or a New chaos god thinking so you mortal want so See something that crusehs you
I loved it. When you invest so much into an idea that exists solely in your mind, the moment you cry for it to reveal itself you realize you're really blind.
I like this because in a way it evokes the idea of Ghatanathoa from Lovecraftian horror where gazing upon it freezes you into a living mummy
First real cosmic horror short movie I have found on YT. Thank you < 3 Awesome work!
Love this soo much. amazing work
The cinematography is great. I love how the actress feel angry and disbelieved in the same time, before the climax. And the deity for sure, is a one hell of a deity

@@MattSears My pleasure :)
This was amazing! Wish it were longer!
Amazing and outstanding performance of the Actress! she really portrayed the feeling of watching the abyss
Thank you. I really enjoyed making this film.
Action/Consequences at it's finest, truly incredible
When you stare into the dark, it stares back.
this was unbelievably great. At first i had the impression she was just a whinging old woman, but wow, what a twist at the end. great special effects too.
Yooooooo that was AWESOME!!!!!!
this was beautifully shot! keep making cosmic horror!
To be honest, with that attitude she had it coming.
Yes! I was thinking about what have happened to your channel a few days ago and now - this one drops. Love it. i so wish someone could give you loads of money to do a long/longer/full lenght movie. Untill that happens; Thank You Matt Sears for giving us horror and excellent visuals.
I'm still here! That's the dream , working hard to make it happen! Until then i'll be uploading more work here, hopefully the next one won't be quite so late. Thanks for following my work and watching, really appreciate the support.
@@MattSears "Live your dream, but stay awake" as Momoko would say. I would like to ask if you have any plans of, like, putting out a DVD/BluRay with all your shorts and possible behind the scenes and so on? I really admire your visual style and hope to see more. Stay safe and Thank You.
Stay safe.
@@pekinoboI didn't know what nihilistic horror meant so I looked it up and found this definition
"Nihilism is the view that there are no values; that, in the grand scheme of things nothing we do is important, and everything we hold dear will be swallowed by a gaping, cold void"
If this is correct, then yes this kind of horror really gets me too, it's terrifying, and I can spend way too much time sometimes thinking about how everything and everyone we love will be gone some day in the next 80 ish years, ..... I can't even explain why I love cosmic horror and that feeling of dread so much ... and look for films that depict that feeling of utter despair and Foreboding.... possibly because I know its a safe dread, and it's not in the real world... and then my mind starts questioning whether it could all be real and lovecraft was mentally ill because he knew all this stuff he wrote of was based on knowledge he had ...... it's a hell of a can of worms for your mind to open
beautiful camera angles and super gloomy atmosphere. Very captivating! Absolutely lovecraft would sends his regards.
Thank you very much! It's quite easy to create something gloomy filming in the UK haha. Tim did a great job on the cinematography.

Bravo!

Lol, now there's a film I would like to see!
Thank you! Really glad you enjoyed it. It's a really fascinating thought, I find myself quite drawn to the otherwordly.
There's a 1963 film called "X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes" that has a similar plot.
The fact that makes it scary is it makes you wonder whats really out there whats beyond this small world we live in it opens up your curiosity but you will never get to see it humans cant even make it past the moon without countless tries so we may never get to see what lurks in the dark cold abyss of outer space.
AHHH i love this woman's acting!! she's so good! watched Tabitha first, and when i saw her pop up in this video, i KNEW it was gonna be good!

The monolith and the surroundings gave me Lovecraft-country vibes, reminding me of the setting for 'The Dunwich Horror' and 'Colour Out of Space,' and that den with the trees that the monolith was in felt appropriately isolated and alone for what happens.
So did it kill her? Or did it just show itself and she went crazy as a result.@@MattSears
This is the problem. If you're praying to a higher power, you're not capable of knowing what it is or if it lies to you.
You are right just like people think they are praying to god when in reality they have no idea what they are doing if they do it
You are capable of knowing these things as in order for God to truly be God He must be perfect in all His ways, without the capacity for lying because to lie is to promise something that one either cannot deliver or has no intention of actually delivering.

That was great! Once again, well done and thank you, mr Sears!
What a great visually and emotional short.
as a fervent admirer of cosmic and lovecraftian horror, i very much appreciated the focused, well-acted simplicity of this piece. however, i was a bit disappointed by how the ending was delivered (i.e., the visual transformation). the exquisite promise of this genre is that there are realities too vast and incomprehensible to be held within our feeble human minds, no matter how wise and powerful we imagine ourselves to be.
this concept alone is enough to instil profound existential terror; forcible exposure to their awful, naked forms are sure to crush the soul and drive one mad. to deliver this dreadful unto a newly-grieving widow, her heart laid bare as she pleads with her until-now-unchallenged source of spiritual strength, is traumatic and terrifying in itself, without need of crude visual reinforcement.
in her hour of greatest need, her faith has been confirmed outright as she is touched by the hand of god.... only to discover that god is in truth utterly incomprehensible, bitterly cold... and terrifyingly malevolent.
perhaps a bit of abject terror and bleeding-from-the-ears would have sufficed. regardless, good job.
I dont understand why this man isn't directing films for theaters, while James Wan is allowed to produce mediocre garbage. how can we change this?
