“Many” of his fans did not call Chester a coward. Whoever called Chester a coward is no fan.
Sadly, that's not true. At least not in the case Larry is using it. Somebody can appreciate someone's work and art without necessarily treating the individual with much respect. I wish they would, but it isn't a necessity.
Dustin Hertel absolutely Son
Mookie why do people call him a coward?
My dad is a fan of Linkin Park, yet he still thought people who takes their own lives are idiotic and selfish cowards, I guess he must be including Chester for that matter,
and the sad thing is that he wants to stick to that opinion of his and doesn't care what others think about depressed people taking their own lives. I really wish he could understand the pain of those people, but he will most likely not, because he's quite stubborn when it comes to opinions and arguments.
I also happen to be one of those who suffered a hard depression last year and I was really close taking my own life as well, but my dad kept lashing out on me by saying his own opinion instead of actually understanding me and just tell me right away that he was worried of me.
@Adam Cederblad That's sad, when it comes to mental health issues people that never had it before just never made the experience how it feels like, so they have no idea what it is like. People often makes the same big mistake to relate everything in their life to themself, they only can imagine someone's other life from their own perspective of life. But yea that's not how it works, everyone is and feels different, some people just have a hard time to understand that.
He had a beautiful wife who loved him, five children, was a millionare who was adored by many, and he STILL killed himself. If that doesn´t convince people that depression is real and a mental illness that some people just can´t escape from, I don´t know what will. RIP Chester.
Good point. Many people skip right over that part.
😢
@@mikemontgomery5649 ppl need to look at the mental part not just the physical and what the persons surroundings are.
He had 7 children.
It is real. Depression is a very serious problem and just antidepressants do not fix the problem. It has a lot to do with your mood and dealing with everyday stuff. And you can look as normal as can be and inside you are a mess. I know this and it stinks that some feel like ending their life is the answer. It's not.
Being able to take your own life is far from being a Coward... as someone with suicidal thoughts I can assure you that. The only reason I didn't do it is because it's scary... and I'm not brave enough to do it.
I miss Chriss, Chester, Kurt... and many others... and I wish they were actual cowards coz that way they would still be here making great music.
I agree 💯
I am glad you found the strength to fight through it. Not everyone is so lucky
Nah man, neither living with pain nor dying from pain is brave/cowardly. I hope some day we stop labeling some brave and the others cowardly and start empathic help to who need it. Pain isn't beautiful, pain doesn't "make you stronger" like some say. Pain is there to remind you that something is wrong and needs help to be fixed. Not to punish yourself by trying to deal with it, to "overcome" it so you become supposedly stronger, not to stop your own breath. I've been battling with mental problems for two decades, tried suicide and glad it didn't work, still am working on it. What I've learned until now is, there is no right way to deal with emotional pain because you are not supposed to deal with it by yourself in the first place. You need to get help.
ive thought about that alot and it is really tough and scary its probably the scariest thing ever. biggest fear, but one thing ive not said to ppl or some friends is im afraid of death, like im afraid of dying, even if i was going to a happy place or not, me as a christian i do wanna get to heaven but im scared to just die of old age or some other way.
There is nothing brave in committing suicide. Bravery is in facing your demons
What a perfect answer by corey...Loved it
Yeah i agree... perfect answer. So true.
Man, Corey Is smarter than I think
I feel like that was very disrespectful to bring the topic of chester bennington in that approach and instantly ask corey why he did it
SoutherlyTag67 Yeah it was pretty abrupt. “He was a good friend of mine..” “He killed himself. Any idea why?” That was almost TMZ level insensitivity.
Larry King has always been a to-the-point interviewer. He doesn't dodge topics or skirt them - he comes out and asks you. Which is sometimes the absolute BEST way to get someones true feeling on a matter. By skirting a topic, you give the interviewee time to prepare for the loaded question that is coming. By using Larry's approach, you prevent this and get the raw, unfiltered feedback in the moment.
This is one of the reasons Larry has been such a powerful and successful interviewer.
ColdPhront3 old people are like that
Quite insensitive, yeah.
If they had switch positions, and Corey asked in that approach, I bet he would be offended.
Yes. It is always insensitive (and, according to mental health experts, something we shouldn't do) to ask why someone died by suicide; but to do that instantly after Corey said they were good friends is even worse. Someone in the replies here told you he always does that and it brings a raw response, but imo being respectful to both the person interviewed and the subject matter is way more important.
Unless you've walked in his shoes , Yep. So true!! No one has right to judge someone you don't know what they are dealing with or going through.
Yeah, people think they know everything about someone's life. And they dont.
That's what his songs are about!, he tried to message all of us about this. Some people just don't listen, we do. Sometimes lyrics are serious.
Yep ! I totally agree
My stepfather, raised me since I was 2 years old hung himself in rehab. None of us knew he was an addict and none of us knew he was fighting depression. I was angry and called him a coward. Not long after, I was diagnosed with severe depression. I walk those shoes to this day. I've attempted suicide without even thinking. If you don't battle it, you can't understand it. Pure and simple. Just be there for people.
weak fatehr , weak child ...... do it .. we dont give a damn about the weak
@@truitons you obviously don't care for spelling either.
That all seems super rough and my condolences😢
You doing any better now?
Depression is no joke. I feel for anyone who suffers from it. Corey said it best.
Chester was no coward. I've suffered from severe depression and to this day I still struggle. Chester's songs were his way of describing his pain and Crawlin and Numb are two which saved me from the brink. Unless you have suffered from mental illness you will never know what this man went through. A legend in every way and someone who I will never forget and who still helps me daily. Credit to Corey aswell, definitely a true friend to Chester. Depression is an awfu!,awful illness.
tayron27 Stay strong, brother.
Never Let The Devil Enter Your Mind
i totally agree..i suffer depression for years i was yet a kid when it started
I would add that people Who suffer from mental illness can still not understand each other. mental illnesses are a spectrum and differ from intensity also people are not the same and don't have the same resources . That's why I feel even someone with depression can't judge another for not coping as well they do
I can relate i suffer from severe Depression too since my teens & my entire young adulthood
Corey Taylor well said so true people dk till then been in those shoes r.i.p best lead singernof all time Chester love ya man rock it in heaven
Larry King sucks at asking question, i dont think he did any research, just asking questions from cards the producer gave him, its so disrespectful the way he talks, Rip Chester Bennington
Many of his fans DID NOT call him a coward. That was biased. If anything the LP community is stronger than ever and there have been tributes all around the world.
Make sure to separate your opinion and separate it from LP fans. Because we think of Chester very fondly and are grateful.
MikeRetrotech90 you must be blind because Linkin Park’s social media has a vast majority of support. Also Chester’s wife and Mike wife are now mental illness activists educating people about it. I’m right you just dont want to admit it.
Also let’s look at the bigger picture. What Larry said was unprofessional and ignorant. That was my point period. This isn’t about you and I disagreeing, it’s about being able to classify victims of suicide as mentally ill and not cowards. Period.
Yes. Of course, there were people calling him a coward, but those were a small minority.
I guess that when you are looking for something, you're gonna find it everywhere. Larry King (or, rather, whoever wrote his questions; I doubt he went on fan forums to do research himself) wanted something sensationalist to say, something controversial to ask Corey about, so they convinced themselves it's true.
rip Chester, hope youre in a better place now im sorry you suffered so much...youre always in my heart and soul and your music is my fuel in my life and in my depressive times it helps me so much..thank you Corey for your words, youre rigght i totally agree
You call Chester a coward, and you call every single one of us who fight the fight cowards. That man fought for so long, he saved so many of us (myself included, he will always be a hero! RIP Chester!
To me having gone this far carrying the weight of depression.. I mean that guy had strong will and cared for living until it became too heavy on him. He sought help, tried to find someone that understands him fully. Just like the song goes: i tried so hard and got so far... But in the end it doesn't even matter. Brilliant man.. RIP Chester and thanks for the strong lyrics and beautiful music..
I would never call Chester a “coward”. He was brave, and fought as long as he could. He just couldn’t manage any longer.
I have to say , first , Chester was An amazing talented person ! Amazing vocalist, good Aura . Never met the man , but through his passion of music and to relay his emotions... we were in a sense best friends . The word coward “ was wrong in this interview. How do you put a label or judge someone who has terminal cancer without having no control ?!... same as depression, it’s a mental cancer that eats your thoughts ! Unless you’re a person who’s dealing with this . You’ll never know anguish . I myself see , fame , money , talent , Beautiful wife , children !.. but it goes to learn that unfortunately there’s more to this life that we are given . The challenges of living life becomes a game . You lose and you win .
who the fuck said that he was coward? go through half of what he dealt with and you'll cry tears so bad.he was and is my idol. he was an amazing person. not a coward. he was stronger than most of fuckall people out there. angel, we miss you ❤
Roshni Rathi a cowardly man that couldn't face life as a millionaire rockstar was stronger than you. That says alot about you. Maybe you should follow in your idols footsteps. Sounds like a coward's way out would be a step up for you.
Eric Laghaifarimani you're nobody to tell me whose footsteps should i follow. so shut up and keep your filthy mind to yourself. i don't need to talk to people like you
Roshni Rathi if you don't need to talk to me, then why are you? Remember, there's no such thing as too many aspirin.
Lots of people, including many in the industry. It's a common refrain around suicide these days, unfortunately.
Dustin Hertel. Because its true
Chester is no coward. Walk a mile in his shoes. He had everything, and sometimes that's not enough to beat depression. Rip your memory will live longer than us all!
its funny how corey is crazy and insane over the top fun in slipknot but in normal day to day life hes a heartwarming sweet guy
He's Is rude , Crazy and fun in Slipknot, But He Is Just a Sweet Guy, It probably was too Sad(More than the fans) for him the Death of Chester , once they were Friends
The cowards after a suicide are those who thought they were friends, but did not notice how much help the suicidal person needed.
If I've had 6 kids, I would have commited suicide too
EximiusDux No, no one's to blame. No one's a coward. Everyone has their own way of dealing with depression and the constant suicidal thoughts. Some deal with it by themselves and hide their pain from everyone else even though they are surrounded by loved ones who would be more than willing to help them. It's a battle within yourself, it's not so simple. It's down to the person to seek help but at the same time when you're in that position, in that frame of mind, you don't think anyone or anything will help.
He was sexually abused as a child! Get the fuck over YOURSELF.. people with trauma/ptsd.. depression/anxiety, major sexual abuse.. DID YOU experience that ? You with your normal 9 to 5 job? Stop your fucking jealousy and realize that MONEY IS NOT THE FUCKING ANSWER.
You have your good childhood memories and you remember them every day. So you cannot know what it feels to remember painful memories every day and try to erase them. You and all other accusers don't have any idea for the pain, anger and disgrace Bennington felt.
So, I repeat - blame the guilty ones not the victim. He tried to live, he has created family, not once but twice... And finally it didn't help. Nor fame/money, neither beautiful wife and children helped.
He didn't move on, he said in an interview he still feels like a young boy. When something so brutal happens to a child, he/she got stuck in that moment forever.
As someone who has suffered depression since my late teens. Constantly battling to try and get some kind of a balance with life is absolutely draining, and at times soul destroying. Calling Chester a coward for taking his own life only confirms for me that a great many people have no real idea just how debilitating deep depression truly is.
They are NOT a coward they want the pain to go away!!!!!!!!!
CHESTER IS NOT A COWARD!
he is humble, caring, kind toward his family, friends and fans.He is so down to earth.
HE IS AN IDOL.
And his suicide maybe is from our fault. We keep asking him to make new song, but we never care how is his feelings?.we never ask him about his problems.
And our ignorance lead him to suicide..bcause he feel like no one really care about him.
That's prob NOT why he killed himself... bc his fans didn't like his new music that is.
i trust Corey Taylor about as far as i can throw him... talented man tho, respect for that.
How can anyone say that's cowardly
As someone who has attempted I know that what he did was not an act of a coward. I didn't succeeded was because I was scared (Its a life long struggle) he was no coward but he was fighting with his mind
RIP Chester! U r still alive and well through your music and memories.🤘
Corey always speaks the truth
People who call others cowards are usually the ones who not been through it. I remember i was bullied for being an anxious kid growing up. And those same people flip their lids during covid cause they started to feel a taste of what i was going through. While i was just strolling through it. Its always easy to point the finger until you are in those shoes.
Well said . People would think they won the fight Just because they feel situational sadness and get over It when in reality they have no idea what people Who struggle with their mind go through. Even people Who struggle with their mind can't judge , because there Is Always someone Who Is deeper in the void than you.
Every single people thinks they have depression and People Who have HEAVY depressione Just cope with it poorly. That's not true . Those people are Just lucky their mind Is not that unhealthy
I was disappointed but he wasn't a coward. He was a human being with hurt. He was you and me. He was allowed to feel like you and me. He did what you and I have tried difference is, he's in heaven and we're not.
what !? crowardly died ... Whoever said that you don’t know till it happens to you. So disrespectful ... True LP fans would never say that #MakeChesterProud #320depression #Iamthechange
I don’t know how anyone can call people who are suicidal “cowardly” or “selfish”. That’s just pure ignorance to what mental illness is; they have no idea the amount of pain a person has to be in to get to that point. And they’re obviously not in their right mind. Contrary to popular belief, suicide is not a choice, it’s a symptom.
Any fan who says chester was ever a coward is not a fan!!
im a big fan and ive never called him a coward .
I think it was a huge loss to music. And i always felt that really really successful people had some type of mental health issues
people don't seem to really understand what it's like to deal with that kind of issues, as a person who have lost my father, sister and aunt, i feel pretty sad..
Uncle corey you are my hero!
There's no universal fix in all of it. You spend your whole life trying to find what works best for you....... Corey, you said it right!
I personally think his SSRIs and his other meds jacked him up. He was on a cocktail or prescriptions, that the autopsy mostly ignored. Police report listed them near his nightstand.
He got 5 hours of sleep a day on average. Very common side effect of SSRIs. We need to stop acting like the cause of depression is the "stigma" or that meds will cure it. He went to doctors for it. Clearly it didn't work.
He needed a holistic approach. Sunlight. Withdrawal from the meds.
Well said Corey, certain fans don’t realise or recognise the effects of depression, and the weight that burdens the person.
Severe depression can lead to suicide sadly… Chester was and is a blessing, an asset to lyrical / singing artists.
People that called chester a coward are not fans and they're beyond ignorant. Even Corey Taylor understands how he feels even though he dealt with his pain too.
I suppose some of his fans say he was a coward because he has a family and he couldn't man up
Smh people are wicked they blamed him for being a coward how was he a coward for battling one of the hardest things to battle in life RIP Chester you’ll never be forgotten 🙏🏻Man you’ve done great 🙏🏻♥️
Yo Chester should've watched Corey Taylor's n Johanatan Davis's messages on da You Rock Foundation videos on UA-cam before he ended it
Thank you corey!! True iowan heart!!!
"Legend" seems like a stretch...
This is a man! So brave and intelligent. As someone with a mental health diagnosis I want to Thank him.
There is an answer. Jesus.
Legend ?

R.I.P Larry King dude
i'm not mad at him for killing himself, i think we all have the right to do what we want with our lives.
i'm mad that he killed himself and he had kids, the moment you have kids you give up the right to suicide.
no matter how terrible you think life is you ENDURE for your children.
don't put your kids through the agony of finding out that daddy killed himself, don't make them grow up fatherless.
Corey Taylor is so cool .... to 13 year old girls from middle America that have no friends . 😂👎
well.. someone should've told him about anti-depressants.
No amount of antidepressants make you forget about being sexually abused as a child. Antidepressants are not a miracle drug.
Well.... Someone doesn't have any single clue about psychology and psychiatry
whoever suicided him is the coward
Bill Head You do realize that suicide is where one person kills themselves, right?
Fuckin rockstars with the money, the fame and living the dream and still depressed...
Depression doesn't discriminate. That's not how it works.
He was sexually abused as a kid. Yeah I'd still be too. Get a clue.
❤
“Cowardly” isn’t the right word, but I’d say “selfish” is.
