LIMONCELLO RECIPE | Italian Nonna making the Best Limoncello in the World
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 гру 2024
- Limoncello is a beloved Italian liqueur that has gained worldwide fame for its tangy, refreshing taste. Made using just three simple ingredients. My Nonna’s family recipe will transport you to the sunny Mediterranean coast with just one sip.
Moreover, the intense citrus flavor of fresh lemons blends perfectly with the sweetness of sugar and the kick of alcohol. Additionally, resulting in a delightful explosion of taste in your mouth.
Whether you enjoy it on its own, as an after-dinner digestif, or mixed into a refreshing cocktail. Lastly, limoncello is a must-try for anyone who appreciates the finer things in life.

It's always such a treat to watch your nonna in your videos. Her voice is so sooothing!
I’ve been extracting my first ever batch of limoncello for over a month now and have searched the Internet far and wide for an authentic Italian how-to guide to finish the final steps. You two are great and this is the best instruction I’ve found, thank you!
I tried it, strictly after your recipe, and what shall I say.... I will never buy Limoncello in a store. Always made by myself. It tastes absolutely fantastic. Mille mille grazie
Love it! It cracks me up that my Italian Grandma used to serve us kids limencello after dinner! She kept it in the freezer, but of course it didn't freeze. Lol. It's only as an adult that I realize what a strong liquor it is! 😂 I can't believe my parents let us have some. She served in in tiny glass cups. Too funny. We loved it! : ) Great memories.
Oh wow, such great memories ❤️ thank you for sharing
That is parenting the ethnic way, the best way. Teach your children to drink responsible and they will remember for life!
@@cynthiakeller5954 I have never seen a drunk Italian. They drink so often but only something small like a glas of vine or a shot. Now when I was in England.... LOL!
@@aldee2787 Lager louts are the best, lol!

It looks fantastic Nonna! And that limoncello cream is WOW! 😍
So for 1 liter of 95% alcohol and 1.5 liters of water, what does that bring the percentage down to?
I didn’t get it about the cream. Instead of water to use 1,5 liters of milk? Or cream?
Ayyy, didn't expect to see you here! I baked your chocolate cake a few years ago and loved it! 🤗
@@jastew1971 38%

I've tried this at home and the taste is much better than I even thought! Thanks for the recipe ❤️
Great to hear!😍
What a wonderful grandma to have! Long live, Nonna!
My mom, who died at almost 100, was the youngest child to parents who were first generation immigrants from Italy when they were teenagers! It always made me so fascinated in her background. In fact, my sister is on a two week tour of Italy right now! (I'm so jealous!) She bought limoncello while there, so I've decided to make it homemade to give as a Christmas gift this year!
Not only do I I think the recipe is wonderful, I think the relationship you have with your Nonna is even more wonderful.
Thank you very much❤️ I love her
How did I stumble onto this video?!?! I LOVE nona! She reminds me of my abuelita!!
Great recipe; I am going to make limoncello cream with my next batch! Thank you both, so much!
You might appreciate this story - my daughter has been allowed a small amount of limoncello at home on special occasions since she was in high school, so she knows what it is, and enjoys it. She's chosen never to be much of a drinker, she's controlled, introverted, and thoughtful by nature.
When she was in college, she was able to study for a semester in Rome with about a dozen fellow students from her US Midwest college, which she loved! There was a small family restaurant on the ground floor of the building where all their flats were; they often ate meals there, mothered over by the nonna who ran the place.
About halfway through the semester, the students were celebrating some milestone, and the nonna gifted them each a small glass of house/homemade limoncello. Being American college students, they assumed the small glass meant "shots" and slammed each glass down before my daughter could instruct them on how to savor the treat! After she explained their mistake, and soothed their host explaining their ignorance, my daughter bought a second round of limoncello so they could savor the drink. The students enjoyed this so much, two more students bought two more rounds...
My daughter's fellow students discovered that, when tipsy, my daughter sings like a rowdy sailor and gives hugs without reservation! The nonna was so pleased that this six foot tall nordic blonde had an appreciation for limoncello that she mothered her all the more, the rest of their visit!
I love this story!❤
This is my go-to limoncello recipe! It’s perfect. I get requests from friends for it anytime I make it. I only wish my papa was still alive to taste it (he’s from Padova). Mille grazie a te e tua nonna!
What alcohol do you use/ where do you find it? Thank you!
What kind of alcohol did you use ?
Awwww the interaction between the two is authentic
thank you so much ❤
I can confirm this is the best recipe if followed exactly as she does it. We had limoncello wherever we went in Italy, including Amalfi, and I honestly think this recipe was better than what we had there.
What would give to try that limoncello--last time I had it was in Positano a decade ago. I vowed I would only have it again in Italy. Your nonna is adorable, love you interaction with her!
You can see the love between you two, it's beautiful!

So glad to see this video! I love the limoncello from Positano when I visited there five years ago. I have tried to make my own limoncello but didn't come out right. This sounds like a very authentic recipe! I trust grandma, period! The colour looks just like the ones I saw in Positano. Cannot wait to try it again. Not sure if I can get the grain liquor from my local store. Last time I used Grey Goose vodka, followed a recipe on UA-cam.
Anche io! I too haven't had Limoncello since i was in Sorrento and capri over 20 years ago now, we brought a bottle home from the factory in Sorrento and I vowed to myself when I bought my house in Australia i'd plant Meyer lemons and make my own, well the plants have been in for 2 years now and I have fruit beginning to form, very exciting times!
This is fabulous! I made it last year and here I am again.😊What a precious video made with your Nonna that we all can enjoy. Love hearing the Italian language. Thank you!
We followed your recipe exactly. It was very strong so we added an additional recipe of simple sugar and it's now perfect for our taste. It made 3 liters of limoncello. Thank you for the recipe! We love your channel, Vincenzo! Your Nonna is precious!
Really? I thought 1.5l of water to 1l of alcohool would make it too weak. I was thinking about lowering the water+sugar ratio. But based on your comment, I think I'll follow the recipe to the letter.
@@hugotipple a friend of mine follows the recipe precisely and loves it. There's nothing wrong with the original recipe, it's just strong!
It's SO strong!!!! Yes, this is my issue now too, but I think I will follow the advices to add an additional simple sugar.
I studied abroad in Roma and absolutely fell in love with Italy and its people and food. I love limoncello and just finished making your Nonna's recipe today, Molto delizioso. Invio amore a te e alla tua famiglia da St. Paul Minnesota. Grazie e buon natale.

Ciao! Sono Calabrese. Watching this warmed my heart. I miss my nonna so much. Thank you
I´ve been doing la nonna´s recipe for a couple of years now and everytime is a delight. Love it!
Wonderful! 😍
So you don't use the juice from the lemon as I've seen recipes where they do
@@coolerkin Nope, no lemon juice for my limoncello. I've seen some recipes that do too but the taste from lemon juice is just so diferent from the lemon essence you get from the peel. I want the pure limoncello and crema di limoncello.
I use the leftover lemon juice for lemonade and mojitos, or even lemon pie cream, so everything is used. And after I make the limoncello, I use to leftover peels to make Italian Ice
@@cipher1144 thanks for the tips...
Also lots off recipes saying use vodka...
As easier to find than the aclchol hear in the UK!!
What kind do you use??
@@coolerkin My pleasure!
And yes, I use vodka too since its easier to get where I'm at as well. I use Eristoff for mine, a cheap but pure russian vodka, but any vodka should work as long as its taste is pure. Now, since vidka has a lower alcoholic grade (around 40), I left the peels on the alcohol for longer. 30 days is enough. And use less water/milk, 1:1 alcohol to water for limoncello, and 1:1.3 alcohol to milk for crema di limoncello. Some water/milk gets lost in the boiling process ofc but thats expected. Leaving my limoncello with around 20 degrees of alcohol (you can use an online calculator for this), which is just about what I've seen comercial limoncellos have
I bought some limoncello from a distillery (paid a fortune) and didn’t like it. I then made this a recipe and I absolutely love it! It has a wonderful lemon flavor, it’s kind of creamy… It’s a winner!
Just finished my first batch. Mixing the infusion with the simple syrup and watching it cloud up was so cool. Tested the batch as well and it’s amazing. Thank you!
Nonna really making the best limoncello, glad you liked it!

Hello, we just visited Italy a few weeks ago and loved the Limoncello that we had there. I have never seen limoncello sold in the stores here in the U.S. (atleast where we live) so I am going to make it using your Nona’s recipe. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe.

I was so thrilled when I spotted your video. My daughter and I went to Italy in the early 2000's (can't remember the exact year), but while we were there we tried the Limoncello and my goodness we fell in love with that drink, we brought some home but one of the bottles broke, of course we were very sad. Now I can make it and think of the wonderful time we had in Italy!!! Nonna is so adorable, I am also going to try the limoncello cream. Lovely video.
Nonna, I made a test batch today but I was impatient. I bottled after 7 days of steeping and tasted a spoonful during bottling. DELIZIOSO! Grazie a lei!

Where did you find 1 liter bottle of alcohol. All I can find is 750ml (fifth) bottles
@@2010stoof just divide the ingredients by 3/4 ?
@@Cypeq well I'm using 2 bottles (1.5L) so I just multiplied everything by 1.5.

No lemon trees can grow in our cold climate, but the supermarkets are loaded with them, even organic lemons! So I MUST / HAVE TO try this recipe! LOL! Thanks so much for the encouragement my good friend!
Juanelo1946 Be careful with supermarket fruit because they put waxes etc on them to mske them have a longer shelf life. I would suggest giving them a good scrub in hot water before using the rinds in anything. :)
Hi Brissy! I've always washed them lightly before using supermarket fruits but now I'll scrub them! Thanks for the great advice!
Just came from Italy and tasted it for the first time in a restaurant, wow so good I just bought a bottle here in Miami to drink at the beach, so refreshing! But of course Nona's must be amazing, home made. Grazie Nona I will try to make it also!!! 🎉🎉

Great recipe Nonna. Brava! That is exactly how Don & I make it when we have lemons on our tree. Unfortunately, pure alcohol in Australia is much more expensive than Europe. We pay $55.00 for half a litre. It is still worth making as the home made stuff is so much better. Thank you for another wonderful video guys :)
I would love to make these execept I'm not sure what pure alcohol is...
And I thought that the one place on earth that would have accessible alcohol would be Australia. (Just teasing.)
Where do you buy the pure alcohol? I’m in Victoria. I’ve looked and I think it’s really hard to get if not impossible now. Hope I’m wrong.

But how much more sugar? They give the weight in grams of sugar for this.
Is it 10 more grams or 1000 more grams?
@@2010stoof Just add an extra cup and try it and add more as needed until it is to your taste. If Italians are like us Mexicans we don't measure ingredients, we just learn to wing it and get it right ;-)

I am loving this recipe Finishing my third batch
Thank you, it looks delicious. I've never made before but will use your recipe when I do.
Hi Debbie, thank you. Try and I'm sure you'll love it
I'm trying to make limoncello since the stuff sold here in the US isn't anywhere near as good as what I remember in Italy. I must have read a dozen or more recipes online and they all vary wildly on the amount of sugar and water to add. Some seem to add ridiculously high amounts of sugar, or water it down a lot. I don't want mine too sweet and I figured about 30-35% alcohol was a good target. This recipe seems to hit that sweet spot, plus it's got the nonna seal of authenticity. My lemon peel is soaking now, and I'll definitely be following this recipe when it's time to add the sugar+water.
Thank you, amazing recipe. I was wondering what type of water and lemons would you recommend used? I’ve made this 3 times with different types each time and they all taste noticeably different
Thank you so much Richard, I always recommend to use organic lemons, the water uses the one you prefer, I don't know!
Love when your Nonna is in one of your videos. Family times are best times. Cheers my friend.

Dear Nonna, where did you get the pure alcohol and what kind can be used? Can't seem to find it in Germany and I even tried in apothecary :P
Hi Gregor, Nonna uses pure alcohol and she find it at the supermarket. You have to try there
This video is 3 years old, but god I'm happy that I saw it! Say thank you to your grandmother for this wonderful recipe I bought everything for limonchello and will make it tomorrow.
I've got two questions:
- where should alcohol with lemon rest? Fridge or cool place? Because I live in Turkey at the moment and it's always + 30 so I can't find a cool place :)
2- how long can cream limonchello stand? Where should I keep it for it not to go bad?

You can put alcohol with lemons in the fridge if it's too much hot where you're now. Limoncello cream can stand a lot of months in the refrigerator.
