My Dad bought this guitar around 2019. I’ve seen his comment somewhere in this thread he bought this exact guitar although his comment says he bought it from someone in Liverpool. literally have it on my knee as I’m writing this. He sadly passed away in April 2022 and so I have inherited it. It is a beautiful example of a classic 80s metal guitar. Growing up in the 80s I learned to play on a charvel 4. This guitar is just magnificent!
Hey Gary, so cool to see you carrying on the legacy and checking in on our video of what is now YOUR awesome guitar. Very sorry to hear about the loss of your father, but I hope his guitar brings you joy every time you see it and pick it up 🤘
I had this exact one in red but with floyd rose and jackson active pickup system. sorry i ever sold it. it was hands down one of the best guitars I ever owned. always in tune and played fabulous.
I had the model 3 in white pearl metallic from about 87-88, it was $650 new, played amazingly smooth, licensed Floyd Rose Jackson trem. and Jackson J-90 HB with black EMG style covers and two S.coil's, satin neck, rosewood fretboard, dot inlay (made from shark tooth) always stayed in tune even doing the Jack Butler whammy bar shake...lol, the metallic had a hint of blue to it, wish I still had it.
I own one plum colour myself. Bought it on eBay like 16 years ago for $499. I upgraded it with many parts from floyroseugrades with a Takeuchi TRS-101 bridge Set a 18V circuitery with EMG's and installed an EVH D-TUNA to get to drop-D real quick. Those guitars are killing it!
The paint was called 'Ferrari Red'. I own two original 1987 Model 6's, both unmodified. One a 'Cobalt Blue' (bought new in '87), the other 'Ferrari Red' (bought from eBay in 2002), both with the Floyd Rose licensed tremolo locking system, and original chainsaw cases. Will never sell them!
I just got myself a Model 6 from 1987 and I have to say mine is even better looking than this one! original pickups and floyd trem on mine. In fact its 100% original! Also Ferrari Red. Best guitar I've ever played and it sounds like a banshee. Thanks for showing these awesome guitars to look at while I made my way into having my own.
This could have been made in 1985 and shipped very early 1986. The model 6 I had ,was fitted with a Jackson version of the Floyd Rose which had very brittle knife edges, so I fitted a Schaller made Floyd, with the hardend steel pivot screws the tuning was rock solid even though it had the behind the nut string lock. This was in late 1986 or very early 1987. The pickups were Jackson's own brand. The rear control knob was a parametric EQ,the middle one a master tone and the volume was nearest the bridge humbucker.
No this is an '86. The model series Charvels debuted in '86 and they all had Kahlers. In 1987 they started using the Jackson JT6 tremolo, which is what you're referring to.
I don't know how much this guitar sold for but it was a steal any way you look at it. The Charvel "Model" series began in 1986 and ran through 1988. All of the serial numbers began with a "C" followed by a 6 digit number. The first number represents the last number of the production year. In this case it is a 6, meaning 1986. The following numbers of 00050 mean that this guitar was #50 off the production line in 1986. I own this exact guitar with only two differences. On mine the pickup selection switches are black instead of silver and still has the original pickups. Serial #C601999
I have the white one with Kahler but without sharkfin. I'm looking to replace the bridge though because it's a bit rusty and it's gnawing away at mij strings because the rollers on the saddle are somewhat corroded and because of that have some sharp edges I think. I think it's a Kahler 2300 pro. Is there any new bridge I can replace it with without having to drill or do routing work?
@@dnadeau819 they’re not as consistent. I’ve had 2 USA soloists an 86 SL1 and custom shop SL2h the few MIJ Charvels I’ve had were not in the same league at all. I have a 94 Kelly Pro MIJ that has the ebony feet board mop shark fin inlays and Jackson logo and Schaller bridge that’s been upgraded to Seymour Duncan’s and that is better than the charvels as well.
That is a bad ass guitar. Back in the early 1990s I had a Charvel 650xl. One of the best guitars I have ever owned. Fell on hard times and pawned it. Im so mad at myself. My buddy has a Charvel 750xl archtop its bad ass too
Cool guitar...let me know when you want to sell it. This guitar went "missing" when I shipped it to a very disappointed buyer in Israel who never got it. The guitar magically shows up at the Cash Converters pawn shop in Brighton where the guy said he bought it at the "lost in the post" auction for pennies. Apparently this Liverpool guy bought it from him. The guitar originally belonged to Rob Logan in Cambridge who runs the Jackson Made In USA page on Facebook
@@EssexRecordingStudios Thanks for the info on the guitar,I hope the guitar was insured and whatever money was recovered. This all adds to the history of the guitar.I once owned one of these back in the 80s and always regretted selling it,so i will be hanging onto this one ,but i will bear you in mind if i ever decide to sell. The video is excellent and could not believe my eyes when i saw it.It came with that case as well.
@@CrowemagModelWorks I wasn't talking quality wise between an SLX and Model 6... I was talking about precisely what you mentioned; a Soloist Custom design... but with a rosewood (laurel) fretboard and cheaper licensed Floyd Rose. You're preaching to the choir about the early Japanese Charvels... I was there during that era.
I have a model 6, a professional rhoads from the 90's "charvel factory" , and a pcs rhoads. The main difference on the pcs vs the pro (hardware aside) is fret end nibs.
I just bought a Japanese model 6 in white for £499 which included the hard case. The body has one large chip and some smaller chips on it. But I'm going to get it restored. Its missing a trem arm for the Floyd so I'm going to need one of those. I'm lucky in that there are some good guitar luthiers in my city and one just happens to be the guy who works on Mark Knopfler's guitars though I have no idea how much the repair is going to cost.
@@kranen1 The 750xl also had different tonewoods if you got a solid color or the transparent version. IMO, the trans mahogany versions sound warmer and more LP like.
Hey dude thanks for watching! To answer your question, no it's pretty high volume here and people tend to change the strings, tuning and action to their liking anyway. That plus most of my guitars are shipped to the other side of the planet with the tension relieved on the neck to prevent any headstock snaps, so in general it's good to do a setup anyway when you get it.
these where made by hondo in japan not a usa guitar even though they say ft worth texas the necks are so thin the truss rods break through the back of the neck
Quality is going through the roof for the money. What rock have you been living under ??? Indonesia, Korea, Mexico has been putting out quality. A lot of that 80s and ninety's gear was over rated, overpriced and grossly underperformed. Modern guitars seem to have better frets and setups. Even cheap guitars are great platforms.A lot of cheap guitars in the 80 and 90s weren't even solid wood or tone wood.
It is a generalization to be sure, but these guitars when in the hands of working or dedicated players seem to have significant wear and battle scars. I have 2 guitars I have owned for over 30 years, and as careful as I have been with them they have their share of dings and bangs. As a working guitarist I found it incredibly difficult to keep these fiddles in perfect shape. Not for lack of trying either. Guitars that stay in their case tend to look like this example. As has been my experience.

This is so cool. A lot of people say these japanese charvels are really well made guitars.
I still have mine that I bought in 86. Will never, ever let it go.
Keep it forever Jerry!
Me too Jerry! Will never let mine go either.
I have a white one of those model 6 with Kahler from 1986. Wonderful guitar.
Very cool! Love them with the Kahler
I had one of these in 87, white with kahler. Was my dream guitar at the time.
So cool! I just got a Model 5 with a Japanese Rising Sun graphic very similar to this. I've got a white Model 4 with a Kahler on our website now
And it’s my dream guitar nowadays hahaha
I had this new but in black. The best guitar I evef owned
I got the exact guitar in black. Found it in an antique store in Florida for 100 with chainsaw case. My favorite for sure!!!
Wow what a steal! My family owns a huge antique store in Florida...hope it wasn't them lol
Vero beach on us1 haha
The individual pickup switches are very cool. Steve

Yep. Had one in pearl white back in 86 myself. Nice guitar, but I sold it and bought a Nightswan.
Nice. The original pickups were awesome . Wish i.could hear it. Cool guitar
Probably even a little more . The popularity is growing 🤫

Gran video!
I had this exact guitar and traded it for an Ovation acoustic. Still kicking myself.
I would have kept the Charvel 😉
Shred machine. I’d love to thrash some riffs on it
It's been said that these charvels MIJ were better than USA soloist
The Charvel 750XLs are still very very nice guitars
Some of them are better than some USA soloists. I've played about 3, owned 2 and 1 of them was better or as good as a very good soloist.
Mostly by people whom have never owned a USA soloist. I have both and there’s no comparison.

Charvel😍
the kahler tremolo was only on the 1986 model. and the early 1987
There is a floyd on my '87 model! Love this guitar.
Always loved the Kahler. More comfortable to rest my wrist on than the Floyd.
This is an '86. By '87 they started coming with the Jackson JT-6 tremolo. This is very close to a modern Indonesian SL3X Soloist.
These stomp the indo Jackson’s. Just as good as US Jackson’s of the day minus the ebony board and German Floyd.
