    To me, this is the promise of a dimension that adds to the musical work of Philip Glass, Steve Reich and John Luther Adams.

    When the strings come in, its like the guitar riff starts to float - but the floating only happens because the torso has been disemboweled - but its all done in a beautiful tone - because of synesthesia

    The first time I heard this I found it hard to sit through, the dissonance made me squirm. It seemed to really walk the line of what could be called music vs just noise. Now I find it fascinating. I’ve listened to it so many times now and get something new from it every time. It sounds like mood swings, or that anxious feeling you get while waiting for an important decision to be made. The tension/relief felt while listening are really amazing.

    Yes, like someone has said earlier, a lot of this is similar to the unreleased Radiohead song, 'Ful Stop'. I think it's also interesting to note that there are a couple of tracks on the Norwegian Wood soundtrack that are very similar to 'the Present Tense', another unreleased RH track.

    Please, if someone knows, I kinda tried to figure out the chords and I came up with this:
    Ebm - D7 5# - Db6 - Cm7 - Bmaj7 is this near ok?

    • @perrogato7484
      @perrogato7484 9 років тому +25

      Well, if you just consider the chord for each 40 notes, yes, but in this case, Jonny is looping the chord Ebm. The intercalated notes between each note of Ebm chord are notes of the chords Dm, Db, Cm, B and Bb. That's just for the first 2 times. The next times, are Ebm, E, F# and Gb :). It's a song in 11/16 signature, repeated 16 times and for the first chords I mentioned, there are 10 notes repeated for times for each chord, except Bb, which is played as a power chord 16 times. Well, that's how I play this song :)

    • @SuperCidalFilms
      @SuperCidalFilms 9 років тому +3

      The loop runs in 11/8 but the bit he plays over the loop is 10/8, making an 11:10 polyrhythm. He's done similar things, a more complicated example can be found in the Norwegian Wood Sountrack.

    I am actually conducting and playing the double bass, and cello, here. I was having am omni kind of day., I only conducted cause it was a paid gig though. I dislike conducting and conductors generally. They should stop waving their hands about in thin air, when they could be doing something like playing a double bass, masturbating, or washing up.

      Did you like the piece?

    • @willzer808
      @willzer808 10 років тому +5

      I just woke up, after dreaming of the name. Hagondy Slick. I looked it up, nothing much to go on. I thought I might have tapped into the collective unconscious, and maybe I have. Weird The piece is ok. I used to write minimalist music when I studied music in college. I dislike college now, so that shades my affection towards things in a bad way. SORRY I've just woken up, I feel odd about that name. C ya.

      He plays arppegi,but he loops a chord to use looper effects(akai headrush E2)
      if you want to know more info,you should to watch the movie that raggadocio B covers the guitar part of this song.

    • @RyanRenteria
      @RyanRenteria 8 років тому +9

      loop an Eb minor chord. then play D minor, Cb major, C minor, B major and Bb major arpeggios against it.
      for the second half its Eb minor with E major and F# major. resolve to Ab major over Eb minor.
      his original loop is 11 beats, and he is playing in 10 beat phrases, so the two phrases phase against each other and eventually match up a few times over the course of the piece.
