ZEKE!! #11!! He's my favorite player, past or present, of all time!!! I literally learned how to play basketball by watching him growing up. Skills, leadership, and above all, HEART!! He had it all!!
Magic Johnson wished he had the skills of Isiah. Magic had the greatest collection of talent in NBA history. At 6-9, you CANNOT find film showing Magic ever blocking the shot of 6-1 Isiah, but you can find plenty of film of Isiah just schooling Magic.
I used to think Isiah was No. 2 PG to Magic, until I saw the two playing on the same court. When the Pistons played the Lakers, Isiah was usually the best player on the court.
Forgotten detail: for this one season only, Thomas wore that strange two-row "ISIAH THOMAS" nameplate on his jersey. His former Indiana U teammate Jim Thomas (no relation) had been invited to training camp, so Isiah started wearing his full name on his jersey. He kept that look even though Jim Thomas didn't make the team. There were no other Johnsons on the Pistons that year, but Vinnie started wearing a VINNIE JOHNSON nameplate as well.
I remember this game and series like it was yesterday. People forget that the Pistons had to get through the Hawks and the Bucks before their battles with the Celtics and the Bulls
Exactly, the Hawks and Bucks were tough, physical teams. They never complained about the physical play from the Pistons like Chicago would later because they were as physical as the Pistons.
All I got to say is everybody always taking about who the Goat is .Well for me Isiah Lord Thomas (Zeke) is my Goat period when u grow up in Detroit and see him play just awesome The thing I wish is that more people outside of Detroit Give him The credit he is due because he turned a bum team around and turned it into a powerhouse and who else can say they Beat Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, and Magic Johnson all in the same years for the money
Considering he went to the NBA Finals three straight times after 87, what does that tell you? If 25 points a game was winning basketball, he would have done it. Instead, he cultivated a team.
The Celtics bucks game was going on at the same time. That game went into overtime. So stupid of cbs not to do a doubleheader or at least let TBS carry a game that day if they didn’t wanna run two games here
In 86-87 the sports media were hyping the Hawks had a chance to dethrone the Celtics. The Hawks started believing the hype and were looking past Detroit and focusing on Boston.
Isiah's game-winner ended up on the cover of Sports Illustrated "Mr. Clutch" was the headline

dirty
That little dance is basically etched into my mind…Detroit will forever love Zeke.
Man, I remember these games. The Pistons were on the rise!
More Isiah Thomas!!
more on the way for sure!
Isiah Thomas. Greatest player in Pistons history AND the No. 2 greatest PG of all time!
Magic Johnson wished he had the skills of Isiah.

Upload the full game Dominique Wilkins was a hand full for Detroit Pistons
In Game 5, in which the Pistons finished off the Hawks, there were at least five separate fights.
Isiah did the same shot the year before against the Hawks. Difference then was there was still time on clock for the Hawks to score and win the game.

1987 was the last time Isiah averaged over 20 points a game. Points and assists-wise, he peaked in the mid-80s.
That's because he helped Dumars raise his scoring.

Hawks an overlooked squad from the 80s! Pistons, and Celtics were too much for um back then...SMH

@@zt1053 True gatekeeper series. People forget about these Hawks teams.
Mother's Day, 1987, Isiah's mother went to Indiana to accept his college degree.
