    Wow, you really do get lost when you have an opinion about something you did not investigate thoroughly. Spirulina is one of the best researched superfoods. And although there are some issues with side-effects, especially from low quality products, there are many clinical trials that clearly show a lot of potential health benefits. Our channel features one spirulina video that highlights the top 6 spirulina benefits based on clinical studies, and more will come as we continue to research this incredible superfood (and others).

    The truth about spirulina? All he has said is it's expensive and used to colour blue smarties! Oh and that it's not that useful as a food/supplement either...Well this came up right behind a Dr Berg video title 'Why do astronauts take spirulina?' Because NASA concluded that the nutrient value of 1Kg of the stuff equates to 1000Kg of fruits & vegetables....

  • @artisticmike

    He said himself that spirulina is very high in chlorophyll. But says that it's only good for hay fever to a small degree. Though if you search chlorophyll you will see that it is excellent at removing toxins from the body. Toxins in the body are the cause of many diseases and why people feel bad.

    • @Stephend005
      @Stephend005 2 роки тому +3

      I take both spirulina and chlorella but this comment has a few problems the main one being the sentence "if you search you will see". Medical professionals do not base their comments of Google searches of health vlogs. They are giving a professional opinion and unless their comment can be backed up by large scale random controlled trials or meta-analysis then you shouldn't be making a comment as a professional. By research studies I do not mean some trial that studied 10-50 people, it is the breadth of research and the overall consensus. Hunting a picking does not count.

    • @artisticmike
      @artisticmike 2 роки тому +6

      @@Stephend005 Just because you may only use google to search does not mean that is what I meant when I said search. Though google pulls up some good articles as well. I search medical journals, pubmed and ncbi. There are many articles there that speak of the studied benefits of spirulina. This doctor said in so many words that spirulina is basically useless, and I don't think any study shows that to be true. So whether or not there are many studies that meet all of your requirements, he was still talking out of place. He could have said it is Unknown as to whether or not it has these benefits. But even if he did have a study meeting your requirements proving it is useless, large studies are often funded by pharmaceutical companies, which have no interest proving a cheap(relative to their meds) herb can heal or greatly benefit people. I don't fault him for not claiming spirulina has wonderful benefits, rather for suggesting that does not have much of any benefit.

    • @Stephend005
      @Stephend005 2 роки тому

      @@artisticmike the trouble you’re going to run into here with the assumptions you have made about me is you do not know anything about me. You don’t know that I am a qualified and registered health care professional who reads peer reviewed journals everyday since my work has subscriptions to basically all of them. We also have weekly journal club meetings where we all discuss as a group different research we have found and critique it for conflicts of interest and methodologies. I personally like these supplements and take both spirulina and chlorella, but more broadly I have a huge problem with people cherry picking their research. Just being able to find something that supports your view isn’t good enough. It’s the consensus across that board that is important across all the research that meets a good standard.
      EDIT- not saying you are doing that, but the wording in your original comment implied it. Either way cheers to good health friend.

    “There’s no difference between natural or synthetic…”
    Hilarious! In that one sentence this chemist demonstrates he has no idea what the words nutrition and natural mean.
    Of course all molecules are the same! But nutrition is all about how molecules work TOGETHER within nature to produce their effects! You can change ONE atom of a molecule and you’ll get a completely different molecule producing drastically different results. Plus, there is no logical way to know, before you observe them, exactly how two molecules or compounds are going to react together or that might happen in an impurity is accidentally introduced. That’s what makes nutrition do hard to figure out.
    It’s astounding a man with a Ph.D can be so ignorant. The problem is he thinks having a Ph.D in one subject makes him an expert in two others: nutrition and medicine.
    This is a clear demonstration of the arrogance of modern scientistry (science as a profession); that they believe if you tear something apart and separate all its parts from one another you can understand how the whole works together. That’s nonsense. All of nature is a SYSTEM, as fine-tuned of the universe at the moment of the Big Bang. Nutrition perhaps even more so!
    I don’t know what the truth is about spirulina. But the one thing I do know is, he is wrong.

      This guy makes twists the arm of science. It's true it doesn't matter the origin of a compound but here he is comparing different compounds, phycocyanin is actually a protein, which we can digest and break down and has a lot of potential beneficial effects. There is no synthetic phycocyanin, we don't make proteins in a lab such a thing is very very difficult to do, we rely on biological systems to make phycocyanin. Most blue food dyes are smaller organic molecules (organic meaning containing carbon) these compounds are man made and therefore no biological system in history has ever had to deal with them. We don't know what effects these compounds will have on human health in the long term, these small compounds are more akin to the signalling compounds in our bodies like hormones, which who know what receptors they are binding to and interacting with.

    If you came looking for spirulina benefits, keep looking cause you will get a referral to a pharmaceutical product. Start with the 1970’s NASA studies of this product for the space program. Effective range of this industry schill is precisely zero meters.

    I'm goning to be lazy (since the Doctor himself was so lazy he even failed to mention it) and not post you a link to them, but there are multiple science papers about positive health benefits of spirulina.
    High price is unfortunate but it comes from a difficulty of growing it at large scales - it is however extremly easy and cheap to grow for own use in a fishtank but I never did it myself so no details here.

      Spirulina, per 1 Tbsp serving has 4 grams of protein, 0 Cholesterol, is high in vitamin A like 400%, and 11% Iron. Whey protein per 1 cup serving has 2.1 grams of protein, 5mg cholesterol, 0 vitamin A, 0 iron. Spirulina $12 on the low end $25 on the high end for 32 servings. Whey protein $ 22 low end $89 high end for 30 servings. Spirulina wins. More protein per serving, plus more goods in every serving. Actual cost for spirulina and whey protein are about the same. And, Spirulina is the only vegetable source of B12. “Spirulina is the only vegetable source of vitamin B12 having two and half times more than meat” ~ Mathur M. (2018) Bioactive Molecules of Spirulina: A Food Supplement. In: Mérillon JM., Ramawat K. (eds) Bioactive Molecules in Food. Reference Series in Phytochemistry. Springer, Cham

      @@rickcastillo9466 Whey protein doesn't have 2.1 grams per cup. It has 13 grams of protein per serving, and 208g of protein in a cup.
      The nutrition label that pops up on a google search uses data automatically collected from websites to try and fill out the nutrition forms. Their script got confused between a scoop of unknown size and a cup, and went with a cup.

    Thank you for creating this informative video. I have been considering growing spirulina on my own, but have been worried about the purity of the culture (which I have no way to verify on my own). My second concern is the nutrients that need to be added to the solution regularly. Specifically the list below.
    NaCl
    CaCl2.2H2O
    KNO3
    NaNO3
    FeSO4
    EDTA (Na)
    K2SO4
    MgSO4・7H2O
    NaHCO3
    K2HPO4
    A5 micronutrient (H3BO3, MnCl2.4H2O, ZnSO4.4H2O Na2MoO4,CuSO4.5H2O)

    I consumed it in smoothie form twice (1 tsp). The first time, I was nauseous. The second time, I was puking until I had nothing left except bile. Then, later that night I had really bad cramps, diarrhea and fecal incontinence. So horrible. NEVER. NEVER AGAIN.
    I don't understand people saying they had it for years and swear by it. Different strokes for different folks. 🤷🏽‍♀️

      Your body is detoxing. Can't blame a product that is flushing waste out of the body, change your diet instead. Eat a fruit only diet and if you get the same results then your lymphatic system is congested and you need a detox.
