    Thanks, you've convinced me to just buy one...

      Yes. It is a lot of work and testing is a must.
      Make sure to test the one you buy as well to ensure it actually works.

      Ya, I tried that, and it didn't work at all. Bought a supposedly popular item from Amazon, it didn't do anything. Need to be very careful, there's a lot of garbage products out there that don't work. Make sure you thoroughly test any product you buy for this application...

    To shield well, the metal on a faraday box does not need to be thick or many layers. You need an elastic conductive seal gasket. (Think of blocking air or water.) But not tiny holes but slits are the real problem, because even if narrow, the gap makes wavelength shorter than it pass through.
    Thus build an elastic conductive seal gasket. Professional shielding doors or old TV tuner cases have a row of tiny copper contact springs (like tines) around the entire gap. But an easier way to build this is gluing conductive metal mesh shielding tape over a strip of window insulation foam tape (silicone is most durable, others may decompose by touching metal). I used this inside my PC bigtower to shield the door rims.
    A faraday box will also help to protect your data media (e.g. USB stick, portable harddrives) against EMP by the now coming nuclear war or a nearby lightning strike. Important is that they only work when closed and no cables etc. is sticking out.

      So your devices will survive the nuclear war but you'll be dead. Fantastic!

    Can I just use a small cooking pot with metal lid?

      Depends how well the lid seals and what metal and how thick the metal is. You can always just test the pot out yourself to see.

    what if we just take the batterie out ?

    • @FrakkingCreations
      @FrakkingCreations  25 днів тому +2

      That would work too. Just make sure when you store the battery in your pocket, or wherever, that it doesn't short circuit when the bottom and sides/top touch metal objects nearby. This will deplete/damage the battery or cause it to heat up.
      Alternatively, some FOBs now have a disable feature that you can use to turn the FOB off until you need it. This may be good enough for your needs. Just make sure to turn all FOBs off.
      For example, some Mercedes FOBs can be turned of by double pressing the Lock button quickly. To turn on again, just tap any of the buttons again.
      On the other hand, some BMW FOBs will auto turn off when no motion is detected. This may not work as well especially when you are out and about, like at the mall. You are moving around so when does it turn off? Relay attacks can also happen when you are out. Someone could follow you and transmit your FOB signals to a second thief at your vehicle, which allows them to start it and drive off.

    What a stupid useless counterproductive piece of technology. A system that hackers can easily get into unless you keep it a box or pouch that you have to carry around, then open to get the key out, then put away at journeys end. Where's the benefit ?

    • @FrakkingCreations

      Keyless entry was created for convenience at the cost of security when they don't implement it securely.
