    Many years ago, I had repeated unauthorized entry to my vehicle. I superglue'd razor blades to hook and loop velcro and attached it to the underside of the door handles and hood release. I never had the problem after locating the fingertips (3 in total) and blood down the side of my car door and on the ground. I removed my devices and rinsed the driveway well while giving a fresh wash to the car! Us Marines aren't known to play!😎

    Novell idea, how about a key hole in the door and a key hole in the dash so you have somewhere to put that massive key. Use the key to unlock the car and start it. Forget all this wireless stuff, all it does is make it easier to steal. Pretty tough to steal a car if you cant get into it.

    About 10 yrs ago after a spate of car thefts in the area my mate started putting his dog in the car at night. One night he was awoke to screams and his dog barking, went outide and found big patch of trouser material with a lot of blood on it, dog came back 10 minutes later tail waggy and a big grin on its face. 4 hrs later police came round accusing him of having a dangerous dog. I heard you say you've never heard of people stealing you car while you are shopping and wanted to advise that this is the predominant method that is used in South Africa. The house security out there, especially in the cities, is like Fort Knox, so the easiest place to steal you car is while you are out shopping. Someone follows you carrying what appears to be a laptop bag and this is the signal booster/relay for the key fob signal!

    So many in the comments don't understand - just turn off the keyless entry function. They'll be an option in your car's onboard system to do it. Also worth noting that several manufacturers have now brought out key fobs that deactivate after a given period of rest. Hence, they're inert after resting and can't be bridged. Both our new cars have this functionality.

      A couple weeks ago a car was stolen from a residential car park in the Cressex area. The owner used a Faraday bag. My theory is that the thieves have now upgraded to using a CAN Bus injection attack. They access the CAN bus via the head lights and send a data packet telling the car's computer that the key is present and validated. It then opens all locks and allows the engine to be started by the thieves.
      What can owners do to defend against that?

    They should have 2 factor authentication at least as well as making it impossible to hack the OBD port or CAN bus. It’s negligent engineering and class action lawsuits should be filed to force car makers to get serious about theft prevention.

      @Bryan-fn6lp Brilliant comment.
      1000% agreed. The ongoing car thefts over the past, too many years, needs to be stopped.
      I'm extremely shocked and angry that the car manufacturers haven't nicked this yet. All the info is there in your comment... now, come on, engineers, get this situation to a non-issue!!!
      Too many folks still haven't a clue their car is a high risk for theft.
      Faraday boxes etc stop working after awhile.
      Here in canada the theives are following car owners, copying the key signal, then just scope out the car to find the best time to just take the car.
      You can turn your wheels, add a steering wheel club, add a port lock, install a non gps tracking system and still...if the theives really want your car bad enough...roll up a flatbed to steel it that way.
      This world is so far crazy it never going to right itself....just saying. And yea, I know a few who has their cars stolen.

      It is urban mit. If not ideal connected lid cannot block signal. Wrong the gap is much more smaler than ¼ wave lenght. So for radiowave no gap. Look microwave owen you have glas door but still work like perfect Faraday cage. Door are not galvanic connected with owen. And work. Why?
      On the glas you have printed metal mesh with small holes but much more smaller than ¼ wave lenght. And microwave owen use much higher frequency than key fob also much more stronger signal and no leak at all.
      If someone interested more in this topic need time. Microwave behaviour, microwave instalation this is special science.
      DIY Faraday cage builder often make manny wrong. Thinking they "know how".

    • @RazorStrap

      @@9a3hp Lid gap for a fact does leak RF. I know this from personal testing. Just a small breach in the lid to can connection defeats the key-fob Faraday cage.
      My go to key-fob Faraday cage is half a paper towel tube (about 6") wrapped with several layers of tinfoil that also covers one end. The other end is left open. No lid etc.
      The diameter of the opening combined with the depth makes it an effective and convenient key-fob Faraday cage. Just drop the key-fob in and dump it out when needed. Very simple to construct and use.

    When sleeping, the transponder is OFF and will not respond to "Relay Attacks". To wake it up, just walk towards the car and press Unlock as normal.
    Do this Lock-Lock to your spare key too, the one left in the front hall.

      An on/off switch would be better.
      Signal timing checks to ensure the actual fob is within required range of the vehicle rather than being relayed would be a nice method.
      Another method would be for the fob keyless entry/start features to turn off when the fob is stationary for a few seconds.

    Question:- first tip - if you turn auto unlock off when you come close to the car or by touching the door… how do you start your car? Doesn’t it work the same way?
    When they use those relay units don’t they scan your house for the key to 1. Unlock the car without the key and 2. Start the car without the key?
    Wondering if it’s just stopping them from getting in the car only? As I’m guessing your key still works inside the car?
    Great video though!

      They use the relay to get into the car and then connect to the OBD to program their own fob. The car makers should be able to design the OBD to use an encrypted connection with MFA.

    Security is always a compromise between strength and convenience. The stronger the security the less convenient it is to use it.

    The best free way to keep your car safe, especially on holiday if you have an automatic transmission if you remove an essential MOT required fuse, the horn fuse for example, the car can be started but won't let you take it out of park so can't be driven. There is no way a thief will know why its not shifting gear and they will have to give up.

    • @3litepker
      @3litepker 3 роки тому +1

      I own 3 cars and do it on all of them. Best part is finding the best hiding spot in the car for it. Sadly, the airtags give notifications to the persons phone telling them their location is being seen. Stupid feature apple has introduced because they don’t want them to be used to track people, rather, they want it to track items. Really contradictory because you’d want to track the thief with your item.

    • @spiritzen
      @spiritzen Рік тому +1

      Apple tags start beeping when they think its being used to track someone. A thief can then try and locate it by ear. I do have them in my cars though, useful to track where the wife goes.

  • @JB12132
    @JB12132 2 роки тому +4

    As these are stolen to order along with other brands of this level, thieves will be out an about looking for your vehicle. Once they see you by the road getting your kids in and out or even parked up whilst you're in the shops they stick a tracker under your car. The craze at the moment from multiple car thefts of high-end vehicles in London has involved the simple Apple Air-tag. £30 and on it goes. They sit back and wtch you from their iPhone go about your life and then see where you live. At this point they have worked out your routine with school run etc. and sit in your road and grab the key fob's signal as it has to come out off the protective storage. This is then immediately stored on thier dummy fob and they come back later and take it. My frind had a trackert company that alerted the police and when going to get his car back with £6k worth or wiring as they seeked to blow the car's tracker he was getting to the door and they locked it on him. The police and him looked at each other and were like, yep they have a real front. If you allow notifications on the Find My Phone on an iPhone (see online full processs) Apple made this so they could not be used against you. So an Air Tag works by working off other iPhone signals around it within 30ft to send a signal of its location. It's not a true GPS. However if you have your Find My iPhone set up correctly it alerts you to unidentified trackers that are travelling with you. It's works out they are noit paired with your phone and alert you.

    The best anti-theft system is the IGLA, which requires to touch some switches in sequence once you enter the vehicle, otherwise the car will NOT start, even if the thieves have the key! The other method is to hide a cutoff switch to the fuel pump! Less expensive than an immobiliser systems!
