i think it’s super interesting how booktube and the bookish-side of the internet in general has sort of imposed the idea that there is one singular reading of a book… if you found satire and humor in the secret history chandler, then it’s certainly satirical! don’t let other people’s readings influence how valid you found your own feelings about the story 🫶🏻
This is honestly the most impressive TBR tackle I've seen 😆 I barely have the ballz to read even 1 of my longest books on my TBR let alone 5! You are a queen ⭐️
Chandler this was sooo good! You’ve made me want to reread TWOK. I’m so happy two of my favs were hits. I can confirm that TWOK is the weakest book in this series it gets soooooo much more complex and the characters omg
I read The Secret History in 1992 and was forever a Donna Tartt fan. Though I didn't care for The Little Friend, I remain committed. The Goldfinch was beautiful.
Personally, I'd recommend loving and leaving the Name of the Wind as a standalone. Book 2 deviates from where I thought the story was going and is clearly a middle book in a series. While I personally loved still being in the world, it opens up a thousand more questions and plot points. Seeing as book 3 probably will never see the light of day, and book 1 concludes pretty well - I'd just leave it there.
That's how I feel about it too. I read The Name of the Wind years ago. I've heard so many negative things about book 2 that I won't read it unless (and until) book 3 comes out. Which is looking like never.
I loved The Name of the Wind too, which I read about ten years ago, and I agree you should just leave it at that. Never read book 2 because of book 3 never being released…and I also don’t think it ever will be, which is a shame for the entire trilogy not to be finished since I had high hopes for it to be amazing…
So glad you enjoyed Way of Kings! Thanks for spending so much time talking about this chonky book. Looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the series.
I finished The Way of Kings a few days ago and went on to read Words of Radiance in 3 DAYS! I DEVOURED IT! I was actually incapable of putting it down! You need to get into Words of Radiance! It is so good!! Such an epic experience! The fact this video has 20 minutes devoted to The Way of Kings and the Stormlight Archive.. um... YES! SO MUCH YES!
the queens of innis lear is one of my favorite books of all time 😭 but its def not one thats for everyone. i’m glad you found books that you enjoyed in this video!!
i feel like this is the first time i've heard someone on youtube talk about the secret history like this!!! it is goofy!! it is satirical!!! and it is wildly different from the overall tone that dark academia seems to be leaning lately. nothing will top that for me
This was such a fun video I’m so glad you liked the way of kings! It was the first epic fantasy I read and I feel like it kinda changed my life. And I’ve never been drawn to the name of the wind but after hearing you talk about it I have to add it to my tbr
The name of the wind was a book I picked up specifically bc I was like I don’t think I like adult fantasy, and then I read that beauty and it’s one of my all time favorites
My fantasy book loving heart is thriving! Also we had like the exact same thoughts on all 3 fantasies (aside from queens of Innis Lear, I haven’t read it lol)
WoK spoilers The sequence when Kaladin and Bridge 4 decided to go back and save Dalinar and Adolin broke me into a million pieces. I was getting my hair done and reading on my kindle at the time and LITTERAL sobbing with how much I just loved it and WoR just gets even better! Amazing and definitely a HUGE SANDERFAN!!
The way I was leaning in watching your footage on The Way of Kings! That book has one of my favorite prologues ever! I was hooked! As someone who has read the book twice and is planning another reread in anticipation of reading book 4, I was impressed by your recall of the characters and plot! I am so glad you liked it. I was afraid of how the hard-core Brandon Sanderson fans would have come for you! I hope you continue on because I believe most people's favorite in the series is book 2.
I'm so glad you loved The Way of Kings!! My husband and I buddy read the first book and finished it the other week. He started the Words of Radiance immediately after and I just started it yesterday and I'm loving this world and these characters so much. Can't wait to hear more of your thoughts!
I'm actually happy for you that you didn't hate "The Secret History" because do I think it's the best thing since sliced bread? No, but it's not trash either it's just wacky and weird 😂
I'm so glad you liked the Name of the Wind! I just read that earlier this year as well and I thought it was great. That's the only one on your list I've read though. The Way of Kings is on my TBR but I'm so intimidated by the length of the Stormlight Archive as a whole, and I generally like to binge-read series, so I just haven't picked it up yet.
I agree with every single word you said about The Priory of the Orange tree. I only finished it because I wasn't bored enough not to. Which is a shame, I has dragons! Ugh...
I've been looking forward to this video! I'm so glad that you liked Way of Kings :D Its sequels are even better, as well as all the other Brandon Sanderson books. Hope you like them too. I would recommend Warbreaker to you, specifically. It's got the most romance of any Brandosando book. Plus, there's a lot of crossover between Warbreaker and the Stormlight Archive. Several main characters from Warbreaker become side characters in Oathbringer.
I have so many books I really really need to get to but listening to you talk about TWoK is really getting my antsy for a reread and it takes a while to get through the books even on rereads ! RIP my tbr... I like this idea of tackling the biggest books. Maybe next year...
Ohh I've never been so early before,, I'm so excited to watch this! Your videos are always so cozy and you really motivate me to read and try new types of books 💗 your I Read 5 series is sooo fun, i find it so entertaining and I keep making up 5 book tbrs inspired by you 💕💕 really excited to see you starting the stormlight archives, I've been eyeing that series too but have been really intimidated by it 😅
I read Name of the Wind in 2015 and felt the same way about it, and I decided I would pick up the second book as soon as we got a date for the third since I was aware people were anxiously waiting. And now...LOL. I haven't picked up Queens of Innis Lear or Secret History yet, but I did have a really good reading experience with Priory of the Orange Tree at the time I read it, although I did not care about the male POV characters. And I recently read TWOK and have fully thrown myself into the series now.
My 5 longest tbr books are - American gods by Neil gaiman, I think it’s over 700 pages but idk - assassins quest by Robin Hobb, but I haven’t read the first 2 lmao - rule of wolves by Leigh bardugo - amber spyglass by Philip Pullman -dreams of gods and monsters by liani Taylor
Yaaaaay I love long chunky fantasies too! I post about things on instagram, and it gets boring because it takes me forever to read them. But I don’t care because they’re my bread and butter. 🖤
I wanted to read Donna Tartt's books up until I watched Bowties & Books' video on the top 12 authors they'd never read, and it made me wonder why so many people celebrate her.
I don't love adult fantasy but Name of the Wind is a 10/10. I've been waiting for the next book to come out for like 7 years though which drives me LITERALLY UP THE WALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL and is why I will NEVER read adult fantasy ever again.
I really really don't want to make a video like this. Because I have so many huuuuuge books still on my TBR 🥲 I read 'Gone with the wind' in 2022 and absolutely hated it. 1000+ pages of pure torture!
Name of the Wind was on my tbr for years, and it wasn't until this beautiful woman at work told me to read it that I finally did lol. she was right tho so
Omfg I actually thought the name of the wind’s main character’s name was actually sweatshirt the half time you were talking about him I was so confused 😭
Calling him "Sweatshirt" is hilarious, but I can't imagine trying to say the name "Kvothe" so many times. I liked Name of the Wind - didn't love it. Kind of had all the same feelings about the writing of the female characters and how they seem less like people and more like accessories to Kvothe's super-awesome greatness. If Kvothe were a real person, I would probably think he was an egotistical little shit. I'd probably say that about most "chosen one" characters though. I kind of feel like this is my year to read The Way of Kings. It's intimidating, and I keep dancing around it, but I already know I'll love it, it'll just be a hell of a time investment.
Seeing this i begggg, has anyone read Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh? Also very long, almost 900 pages, not a fiction tho, a high school romance with a mariana zapata type of slow burn. There is also a second book just as longgg anyway i just need people to read it because i love them lol
like legit sooo good words cannot do it justice, worth every second i spent reading, it has everything, amazing main and side characters and alsoo there will be books about all their friends. i now just have to find something at least close to this good..sighhhhh..
I just started priory and I’m a few chapters in and I’ve been finding it so lack luster and boring. I really wanna dnf it but I tried her book the bone season and also found that one really boring until the last like 50 pages. Maybe I should just let Samantha Shannon go lol
chandler in her fantasy era we love to see it
I feel like this video is my sign to finally become a Brandy Sandy girlie as well.
These words are accepted
@@Morfeusm 🥹 I appreciate this comment.
DO IT!!!
DO IT! You won't regret it!
Confused, flying koloss.
Chandler loving WoK is the highlight of this video but referring to Kvoth as "our boy sweatshirt" is a close second😂😂😂
i think it’s super interesting how booktube and the bookish-side of the internet in general has sort of imposed the idea that there is one singular reading of a book… if you found satire and humor in the secret history chandler, then it’s certainly satirical! don’t let other people’s readings influence how valid you found your own feelings about the story 🫶🏻
This is such a good point!!!
this!!!
I think people just like to go by what the author personally intended
This is honestly the most impressive TBR tackle I've seen 😆 I barely have the ballz to read even 1 of my longest books on my TBR let alone 5! You are a queen ⭐️
this makes me want to read a chonky book
Chandler this was sooo good! You’ve made me want to reread TWOK. I’m so happy two of my favs were hits. I can confirm that TWOK is the weakest book in this series it gets soooooo much more complex and the characters omg
i'm literally so READY to be able to talk to you about stormlight
I read The Secret History in 1992 and was forever a Donna Tartt fan. Though I didn't care for The Little Friend, I remain committed. The Goldfinch was beautiful.
I vote the next I Read 5 should be “My Most Intimidating Reads”🖤🖤
Seeing your excitement about reading the Way of Kings made my day!!! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Words of Radiance!💜

The secret history is a fave of mine and I can confirm that the tone of the book was meant to be satirical since the point was critiquing academia
So glad you enjoyed Way of Kings! Thanks for spending so much time talking about this chonky book. Looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the series.
I think the second book of the storm light archive will be your favorite. It has some of my all time favorite scenes

Was that Pickles giving the Greek statue some kitty ears at the beginning of The Secret History portion? So cute!!😂🥰

dying to see another ff reading vlog!

SWEATSHIRT 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The Name of the Wind and The Way of Kings being good fucking foods sounds about right.

i just picked up Babel! need to get thru that one now too haha

Can we start a petition to officially change Kvothe's name to Sweatshirt?
