      Annotating a mystery could be so fun! You could use a tab for all the clues you find throughout the book. And as you read through, if you forget some clues you could just tab back to see what you’ve learned

    I love annotating for multiple reasons, but the romantic in me loves to think about my children or grandchildren one day reading my books when I'm no longer here and them seeing my annotations as they read the books for the first time and it would be like we were reading and experiencing the story together. I have a book that belonged to my grandmother, she is the reason I have such a love for reading and stories, and she annotated it for me after she found out she was terminally ill and it's my most prized possession. Anytime I miss her and want to spend time with her I read that book and the notes she made and it's like she is sat right next to me talking about what she liked and what she didn't.

    I agree with many here that this is the best annotating video! I like how you broke things down step-by-step and how you neatly summarized those steps at the end of each part. It made things much easier to comprehend. I'm 51 years old and was an avid reader in my youth. I recently made a commitment to reconnect with my love for reading. I've got loads of books collecting dust on my shelves that need my attention! I've never annotated before, so with the help of your beginner's guide, I'm excited to try a more immersive style of reading, which as a fellow stationery junkie, gives me an excuse to acquire new pens, highlighters and tabs, hehehe!

    This is absolutely the BEST annotating video on this platform. As someone who is still fairly new to annotating my books I always catch myself watching videos on how other people annotate to see if there is something different I can add to my system or understand it better but what I find is that people tend to repeat themselves so it's not really beneficial to me as someone whose trying to really learn it, ya know?
    But, this video actually broke it down and provided examples on HOW to annotate and WHAT to annotate and how to use the different techniques you see on so many social posts.
    Truly, thank you so much for making this video ❤ I feel like it finally makes sense and im not just annotating for the sake of it lol

    Just wanted to share my appreciation for you sharing this video. I picked up seriously reading this year after not reading regularly since high school over ten years ago and fell into the world of watching booktubers too. So I’ve always been intrigued by annotating but intimated by not knowing how to actually do it. I know there are no set rules but the not knowing is scary. I watched so many videos trying to learn how to annotate that although were cool, didn’t really help. You’re the first person who has shown it in a way that makes me confident enough to start annotating. I love your deep dive into how to, why to, and what to annotate. Thank you!

    I will say the purpose of your annotations is really important. For example, if you were annotating for an academic purpose what you were looking for is going to be different than if you were annotating simply for your own enjoyment. Informer you are most likely looking for important information while in the latter it is information you want to go back to. For the latter this information could very well be important but it also could simply just be a quote that you enjoyed reading would you want to refer back to in the future even if that quoteis not vital for the novel. Hope this can help

      You don't have to annotate. You can enjoy a book just by reading it.
      I don't understand why everyone thinks it's good to write all over books. You're just making it so that copy can't be enjoyed by anyone else in the future in the same way you enjoyed it reading cleanly the first time.
      IMO it's just another consumerist trend to make people buy more stuff

    I really loved this video! I never thought about how annotating can help me reread favorites without going through all those pages again. It’s like having a personal guide in the book! Also, I learned that using thinner pens makes a huge difference in keeping my notes clear and easy to read. The tab placement trick is genius too; now my books will look nice and organized on my shelf! I’m excited to try the color system for my tabs, especially the idea of having one for emotional moments. Thank you for this video! So many great ideas.
    One thing I wanted to say was that with books, like a fantasy or any book with a lot of info, you can tab everything you think is important, then we get you further into the story (or even after you're finished) you can go back & underline/highlight/note what you found was important to remember. You can pick one color just for tabbing the "this might be important later" bits.

    Thank you so much for this video. I was always really scared of annotating my books because I felt like I had to get it perfect. And it also felt like everything was important otherwise the author wouldn't have kept it in the book... I now realised that I don't have to do everything and can start small. And that annotating for my own books and books for school is very different.
    The tip with starting with a book that you already read is such a good one!! It takes so much pressure away. Really thank you so much for this video you really showed that annotating is fun! ❤

    I have done this for many years, I started on library books, that my mum had to replace when I was a child. I had no idea there was a name for this way of marking up my books. I don't use any particular supplies I just use what I have to hand I do add tags now more and more... Much I do in my bible. I do like to use sticky high lighters now. I got them from Amazon. But like you said it's up to us how we do stuff... I do use glitter pens now and then too... I do use very thin pens for writing in the tiny margins. I actually was alone in this journey as none of friends or family mark up their books, and most don't even write in their Bibles, all my Bibles are marked up, and I hope when I go to be with The Lord my family will enjoy finding me in my books.
    It's really great for me to see the younger generation enjoying reading and marking up... Thank you for a good video on this subject. Watching from across the big pond as you popped up in my feed...

An actor friend of mine tried to start a channel reading books aloud chapter by chapter while also filming the actual pages so you can see the text and got copyright strikes for it. She could only read books that were in the public domain.

Very organized - you’re so clear with your messaging. Excellent delivery too. Public speaking prof here 😉 Couldn’t help but notice the skill on display.

    Thank you for all the tips, and wonderful that one of your tips of books was from a Swedish author, I might read it in the original language as it is my native tongue (Fredrik Backmans "Folk med ångest" aka "Anxious people"). His other book A man called Ove is very popular here as well. It is now a thing to call people that: "Oh, yeah, he is an Ove for sure". I have read his "Min mormor hälsar och säger förlåt" which I don't know the eng title for but the swe one translated to "My grandmother says she's sorry" but as in saying it from a distance or maybe from beyond the grave.

      Reading an author's works in their native language sounds like such a beautiful experience! I highly recommend Anxious People, and I have 'My Grandmother asked me to tell you she's sorry" on my list!

    Annotating is interesting and I want to try it, but I'm currently reading my cousins book which is fantasy so my compromise was to make my notes in a notebook, adding page numbers of the book and quotes and notes in it as well as my thoughts on it

    as a huuuge fan of the murder mystery/ thriller genre, i really love annotating them. they usually contain weird information and they often also talk about topics like justice, grief, etc.
    also, i dont like annotating about romance books. they just contain nothing for me to annotate about.
    but hey, to each their own!

    I have just decided to annotate and felt a little overwhelmed when I did research on what I need to do and use and how to do it all. I love this video because it give you things not to do because it didn't work for you and why it didn't. Thank you so much!
    What are you using to highlight now? You mentioned a neutral highlighter.

    Please keep doing the annotate of this book in a video, I want to start doing it soon but I do not like to write on my books at all, just my name and date I started reading... So if you do more of those videos, and continue with this one I am sure I am going to just want to do it! Love your explanations and exemples.

      Have you thought about trying transparent sticky notes?

    • @xxDebbyx
      @xxDebbyx 5 місяців тому

      @@ba_samsoum I did but I think I would need a bigger sticky note to do so and find a pen that will not stamp the other page. :x baby steps over here.... But I am starting to think that I would be making the book my own and not damaging it 😄

    • @ba_samsoum
      @ba_samsoum 5 місяців тому +1

      @xxDebbyx there are sticky notes that are full page sized. I don't personally use them. I just thought I'd suggest you start with those until you can do more. I also had a hard time annotating at first. I was thinking, what if I want a reread? I would want a fresh experience. What if I lend the book to someone. But once I started I think I like it, maybe? not sure yet. Highlights are a big NO for me personally, but I am able to underline passages and write on the margins... with a pencil.

    • @xxDebbyx
      @xxDebbyx 5 місяців тому +1

      @@ba_samsoum I do think I am going to start that way or maybe just using the tabs and have a journal to write down the page and my thoughts… whenever I start I will let you know 😊Thank you for being so kind and helpful 😘😘
