I wouldn't call the story incredible, but sad and horrible

its actually heartbreaking what they went through. this is how i dont understand why athletes knowingly take steroids.
Ye? I can not understand how someone can drink alcohol and get dumber and dumber every time.
In a lot of cases many of them didn't know what they were taking. Many of them were given injections and told they were B-12 shots.
Some people will do anything to be the best in the world. You can warn of the risks but denial is a helluva drug. Nobody thinks the worst will happen to them.
They were lied to, it says in the interview
They were East German they had no choice . Either take the steroids or be declared and enemy of the state and thrown in prison
This would make a great movie. Love story, political drama and sports.

There's a bigger physical difference between Heidi the attractive, feminine girl in that picture (showing her standing next to another woman) and Heidi at the 1986 European Championships, than there is between doped-up masculine Heidi and the man Andreas she then became.

She was turned onto elite sports like many young girls are turned onto turning tricks. 1. Lie about drugging her. 2. Keep her doped up to perform through the pain and abuse. 3. Keep her chasing the money until she is worn-out/burned out.

At around 2:20 the translation of Andreas Krüger is wrong (ok, that he said that he toke the pills because he trusted the trainers and he was never informed about where the pills where for - he was told of "vitamins", that's right. But everything else is just wrong.) ... I have not seen the film right to the end right know. Perhaps there are further wrong translations later, too.
Krüger = Krieger.
Now I have seen the film to the end. Althrough I could not not understand all german words anymore, I think that the rest of the translations were - more or less - right. Althrough mostly, they were told in a more sensational, more 'loud' tone, than Andreas is speaking himselfs.
What is the correct translation?

I wouldn't say cute, but he definitely had male and female characteristics, very strong male characteristics.
Around 4:01 the narrator says "By 1991 her career was over." The Berlin wall came down in November 1989 and Germany reunited in October 1990. The very least they could have done for her was tell her the truth, stop the pills and pump her full of estrogen. It might have restored her body's ability to produce the right balance of hormones that a woman needs.
From everything I’ve seen, the results of the steroids is permanent.

Caspar yes! Totally loved this show. I am going to go search for more episodes now. Funny how the thing about journalism shows like this that hasn’t changed is that they still like to do a lot of sensationalizing through editing to make people’s heart strings pulled. Not that this is not a generally accurate story but they definitely could have picked several other Athletes to talk about doping with that also had similar focal points.

I don't understand how professional bodybuilders can take steroids. She should sue her coach.
He should, not she.... The coaches and people involved are probably in their 70s and 80s, or dead. It's too late to take legal action, and generally you don't have decades to sue, usually it's only a handful of years.
Andreas deserves to be happy and it was horrific what his coaches did to him. Oddly enough--with all his masculinization--I still see small remnants of the woman in him.

Most trans-men, you can tell. With Andreas, I’d never guess.
No many many transgender men look like Andreas. It's called you only "see" the ones that don't, the ones that do walk right by you and you would never know. It's mainly due to how long somone is on hrt. After 5 6 7 years.. basicly indistinguishable. But also how young they are when they start is also a factor however nowadays trans kids are able to get treatment earlier because we now have awareness of this medical condition and it is slowly becoming less taboo. So trans people passing flawlessly will become the norm in the decades to come.

What a story what's one individual being subjected to doping. E.G govt said it's supplements. They didn't have a clue with their bodies turning more male like?Maybe Andreas the others from East Germany were too young to realize this since they were in there twenties. Would be an interesting movie I wonder if this correlates with what's happening with trans male transgender athletes transitioning to female. Giving them the confidence to participate in women's sports like swimming. I don't feel that the women who remain women are giving a fair shake when men were having completely transitioned are allowed with their high testosterone and muscular development to participate in women's sports purchase doesn't sound fair.. even college wrestlers have white categories too not give a weight most likely strength advantage over the smaller wrestlers. Does that make sense? Also it's like the special Olympics back 20 years ago weren't disabled athletes will participating in various sports. And back in Spain the coach trained non-disable athletes and pass them off to the Olympic committee that they were disabled. Watching them play basketball it never think they were disabled making all those great shots.. that's a disadvantage for the disabled. That was a big scandal the coach should have been hung upside down like Mussolini

She didnt have to get a sex change operation, she would have gone back to "normal" with time, and supplementing with estrogen pills would have made the feminisation faster. However if she is happy living as Andreas, there is nothing wrong with that.
People who tried to go back to women had series of miscarriages and stillborns, so maybe what he chose to do was right.
He actually said he felt like a man even before the doping, but wanted to go through the transition by himself, not in that way.

There's a key factor that is being misunderstood here, judging by some of the comments... Andreas had already felt gender dysphoria, prior to unknowingly being given steroids. The fact that he is trans is not the result of steroid use, although that ultimately contributed to develop masculine traits.
