You clearly love your job. I'm absolutely fascinated by your attention to detail. Please keep up the amazing work ! You've certainly had some excellent training 😃
Ooh dam mate I wish you were in Scotland as I have a pair of German paratrooper boots which I got resoled and the guy who done them butchered them 3 times I took them back to him he didn't even use the proper all.in one sole he even used separate heel every time I wore them they fell apart I haven't had them done since because of the fear of throwing money down the drain again but you certainly know your profession .all the best and thanks for the knowledge I can arm myself with..
If the shoe repair man is looking like that i am interesting to see what your blacksmiths look like in your part of the world! Probably like Ronnie Coleman... Great video mate.
I was always told it couldn't be done. I have a pair of Canadian Military Mark II boots issued to me in 1989. I have been wearing them every year except in winter (too cold in Canada) and they are highly polished. I need to find someone who can do this as I am now strictly instructing and the cadets can't figure out how I have kept them this sharp this long. It really is a spit shine. No heat gun or other gimmicks. Soles are getting pretty smooth.
Great video. I am 73 now and I have served in the Airforce. As My pension is not brilliant I have had to repair several pairs of shoes and slippers, with various results. I bought a pair of german army boots some years ago and the sole on one of them is breaking up and the rubber was cracking. I used a soldering iron to weld the cracks and seal the crumbling parts. I don't know how long it will last but I know where to go when I need new soles. I live in bedford so its not far to go. Thank you, Mike.
Great job on those soles. I like those boots, and the soles. Now I want to track down a pair of those boots. If anyone knows where I can get a pair of them, even used, let me know.
There's a few army surplus stores online selling used pairs, but supply is sparse. If you're in the UK and you can afford it, you can visit their factory in Yorkshire and get a pair custom fitted.
I've also got a pair of Alt-bergs which when I need resoling I'll give you an email. Real nice work on your mates boots, like the look of the Vibram Rocker sole. Atb Malcolm 🏴
What a job! Great work as always Dan. I have a pair kenzo Chelsea boots which the sole is just beginning to come away on. May well pay you a visit when it’s more acceptable to travel further than your locality.
@@Dan_the_cobbler the pleasure is all mine, honestly. I’m glued to your videos. It’s not all your chisled good looks 😉. I really find what you’re doing so interesting. Here’s fair warning that you will be meeting me when you least expect it 😂 peace and love x
Great video! I was wandering if you could do a video of the man you did the heel/toe n hob nail n sole walking cadence down the sidewalk, past your shop in those boots? That would be awsome!
I brought some Karrimor boots with Vibram soles about 10 years ago and the Soles haven't worn even 1 cm ....the uppers are fcuked mind you but the soles are like new
I’ve had my brown altbergs from 43cdo for eight years and never even imagined I could get them re-soled. They are my most comfortable boots and would love them to get fresh grip! My only concern would be the cobbler I go to won’t do as great a job as you’ve just done! Great work mate. 👍🏼
@@colp9492 Make sure they'll accept them for resoling first, too many surplus dealers sent worn 'Defender' boots for resoling to bump up the value that Alt-berg stopped accepting them, they might be doing them again, but check first.
Birch Tek 10 only appears to be available to trade customers on their website. What would you recommend as a replacement for a DIYer? Also, what contact adhesive do you use? Thanks
You viewed and commented on this video, and all that was made possible by someone behind a computer with skills you will never have. Don’t downplay one skill just to praise another.
I've fallen in love with the comfort of Vibram , it's just I'm scared to take my Goodyear welted nice shoes to a cobbler to replace leather soles with Vibram as scared the glue won't hold and the sole will come off. This is exactly what happened to me years ago when some soles glued on by Timson's came off while I was in the middle of a browse in Harrods- very embarrassing ! Can I trust a cobbler to do the job without having to send my shoes back to the factory ?
Hi pal, really enjoy watching your videos. I have a pair of altberg tetheras ready to be resoled is this something you’d be able to do . Thanks and ATB.
Excellent video sir. As a wearer and lover of Altberg boots I would love to know how much you charged for this service - If you don't mind sharing ?? Cheers
All I wear is Altberg Defender boots.. on my feet all day 7 days a week washing out my dog runs and out training the dogs.. only thing I will say about them is the soles wear out within 12 months on me
Hi Budy have you ever resoled Aku pilgrims mate. If so can you put a softer vibram sole on for better every day grip as I use them for work now. I found the original sole did not give good traction on everyday floors in work. Regards
I just bought from the carboot a pair of Goretex army boots with Vibram soles. The first time I wore them, the sole crumbled into pieces beneath the Vibram. The local cobblers say they are impossible to mend. Is that true? The uppers are in absolutely excellent condition
I’ve really been getting into watching all the professional shoe cobbler channels because I’m thinking of a career change. Thank you for you awesome educational and not to mention entertaining content! Side bar… dude, I can’t be the only one wondering, but seriously do you have any tips on getting by biceps bigger? I’ve had girls mention mine are too small. Anyways have a nice day, cheers from nt he states!!
My vibram soles have started coming off my merrel moab 8s within a week after wearing them. They have been stored in my clothes cupboard for 3 years. Is storage that bad or are they duds? Do you have a video on how I can fix?
Dear " Tring shoe repair & key shop" I suggest you to use abrasive belts having silicon carbide-SIC grain, grit 36 or even 24 (exist even to grit 16), usually they are black color from most producers. Much better working on rubber than blue zirkonia belts. If you are interested, let me know I'll give you material codes. The trick is that silicon carbide grain is much harder and consequently much sharper than zirkonia grains, so SIC actually cut of rubber off compared to zirkonia, which doesn't remove rubber so efficiently and makes more heat. Try it, and you will see difference immediatelly.
I had a pair of Cat Second shift whos' soles wore out but the uppers were in A1 shape- the problem was the shoes leathers were bulging outward due to supination.... any ideas on how to fix this while replacing the soles like in your video above? or toss the boots - that would waste of good leather.
I’ve no idea why I find these so interesting
irk this a mate was talking about this channel and it then got recommended to me its satisfying
Same hahaha!
Nor me but I love em

It's an occupation that was at one time, very common, but now is a niche industry.
As some of us America's would say..... you're a BALLER.... great craftsmanship !
Altbergs, top boots. Vibram, awesome soles. This footage was awesome. Keep up the good work.👍👍👍👍

The boot repair was excellent as usual. My favourite part was that cool Rubik’s Cube pen holder.
Nice work, it's always great to see boots get a second life.
No idea why this came up on my feed, but I had 2 pairs of Altberg Sneakers when I was in the army. Best boots I ever had in 10 years. Great video 🤙

Good job! You've given me hope for worn shoes, I've thrown out so many pairs 🤠
Great video mate I did this job for 30 years still do it part time for friends
Popped up on my feed, I love shoes and a handsome man.......I subbed...
It boggles my mind that there's been 67k views and only 1.6k likes. This is awesome content. I love the channel!

nice idea to sand the sole and then use the same sole as a midsole , so the boot will be very resistant .
Thank god you don't live anywhere near me! Cause I would deliberately damage my shoes so you can fix them! Great Work Mate!
I mean RIGHT?! He has no business being that HOT!

Are you taking precautions for the particles produced during the sanding?
