So often when I talk to my American friends I hear them being negative about USA, always talking about downsides and failures... And taking for granted all the essential things most of the world cant even imagine having themselves. Being born and raised in the region where by my 30s I lived through 3 wars, poverty, electricity rationing, even hunger on daily basis, it always disturbed me how they fail to understand what kind of birthright they have been blessed with. It does come with the price, but trust me, its the price hungry people would gladly pay in a split second

We’re doing great and our employees are young, healthy, with zero debt, houses in the country, and young families. At age 25 they’re 15 years ahead of their college educated, urban peers.

I guess it's all relative... We need more college educated workers in the coming years for specific trades. If you plan college right it's not that spendy. And some companies pay for college. Unless you're okay with visa programs filling the classrooms and then leaving to go back to their home country? If you're 18 and still reading this, not really sure what to do, find a welding, fluid power, electrical, electronics, etc program in your area. I get phone calls weekly for job offers. Don't rule out what a degree can offer. With a four year degree out of HS you're done at 22 and possibly making $100k a year. But if by chance you know someone that'll give you a chance as a tradesman without an education take it.

@@satchell78 It's worth noting that the idea of a college degree for the necessity of work is starting to slowly die. First Gen Z is often rebuking college having learned from the millennials that it doesn't actually help you in many instances. So many ways to basically waste it. Secondly, companies have been learning that the college degrees previously used as a mark of qualification really aren't that useful since so many went through college and came out of it dumb, in debt, and useless. Largest employer of English degrees I believe is Starbucks and don't underestimate how many have English degrees. With a relevant degree in the relevant field it is important. And finally, worthwhile to mention is that an Associates Degree isn't really the degree most are referring to. Associates is effectively the "some college" in the education category for a lot of questionnaires. The 4 year bachelor's degree is the one which is major specific and the one which a majority of college degree holders hold since that's the one which is ideally supposed to get you a job. That's the one which marks you took a field specific course load. 2 year college is none of that. That's a trade school or Associates. Not actually one which is in colloquial use with "college degree"

It makes the most sense to get the largest group of people possible for insurance to spread the risk. The largest group of people is EVERYONE. You want to spark entrepreneurship? Disconnect healthcare from your place of work. I know so many people who can't afford to quit their job because of their work provided insurance or who were only able to start a business because one spouse could grind out at a job they didn't especially like so the family stayed covered while the other got a business started. The numbers speak for themselves, the most efficient and cheapest way to get healthcare to everyone is universal healthcare. A Koch funded study grudgingly came to the same conclusion! Unless of course, you like people suffering with preventable diseases and tied to shitty jobs. Which, I think, is the unspoken truth behind many of these arguments. The US has financed and protected development of the world for decades. FDR isn't responsible for that though. The best thing FDR did for the US was keeping troops out of the ETO until 1943-1944. The US is the only major participant in WWII who didn't suffer a massive loss of prime age males as a percentage of the population.

I am Native American. My Family has lived in Texas since the beginning of Recorded Time. We had to learn to Adapt and Change when the White-Man Arrived (Perhaps I should say Europeans Arrived). I was taught to buy my own land and grow my own food and to make My Own Way in the World. There was a time when the Comanches would kill you so you had to learn to make alliances with the Spaniards & Americans. Our land seems to always be changing, be Optimistic, You Just Need to Adapt.

The sanctions against Russia is so badly advised that it can, if not split European Union (EU) and NATO, at least paralyze it. I would say if EU goes down Russia will stay on it feet's. And to import a workforce to US. suggest you do as Canada do.. try to find the people that fits in and not get all the misfits..

Is anyone else skeptical of his optimism? I’ve been binging him the past 6 months cause he does think broadly and he seems to factor in a lot of moving parts. But man…as Americans we’re so thirsty for optimism since there’s clearly a lot of dysfunction both internally and abroad. On 2 levels I’m skeptical of his optimism cause I almost can’t unsee the fundamental dysfunction I see….but in addition to that I am craving an optimistic sounding voice. Peter is certainly correct about the demographics of Russia vs Ukraine and, all things "equal", that would mean an eventual Russian victory. However, The Ukrainians have proved to be formidable and have the "unequaled" advantage of defending their homeland. It makes me think of Vietnam where, demographically speaking, the US should have won easily...but did not. Because of the previous example, I think Peter may be wrong about this "prediction" of an eventual Russian victory.
This is an old repost. PZ's "predictions" were predicated on the known buildup of the initial invasion. 6 months later he's singing a different song. To be honest, I don't think anyone expects Russia to come out of this alive, let alone "win" something.
He almost contradicted himself when he said that the midterm forecast for Ukraine wasn’t looking good, because he also said that the U.S. can’t let Russia win. There is no situation where Russia pushes past Kyiv because the U.S. and our allies can not and will not let that happen.

Were I President, I think one of the first things I'd do is what Zeihan has described. We have had programs like Job Corps, though I don't know if they are still around. I'd like to see a President recruit people like Zeihan and maybe Mike Rowe, as well as the likes of Thomas Sowell, to formulate plans and then help implement them across the country. Trade schools, apprenticeships, a revamp in middle and high school education, the promotion of job training through military service, encouraging more in the way of part time work for those who can't work full time, better counselors for people who need to discover career options, and so on. I think one of the problems we have is that young (and sometimes old) people just don't know what to do with themselves. They need to be productive, but they aren't sure how to get there. I am also fairly convinced that is part of why some end up in college. Because they can just put off work or choosing a major for a couple of years. So much that people could be DOING.

What does Peter mean when he says that America is the only country with Millennials? Does the US have a disproportionate amount of people in that age group relative to other developed countries? For reference, he says it at 7:09 but I’ve heard him say that in other videos too.
He is referring to the idea that the US has a demographic benefit from more young people coming into the workforce than those retiring. In China the opposite is true. They have more people retiring than new people coming into the workplace.
I really like listening to Peter Zeihan and this guy, the optimistic American, sounded reasonable until he called the Russians the Soviets. You do realise the Soviets have been gone for 30 years.
You assume that the Soviets were not the Russian Empire Redux. Certainly, the Cheka/NKVD were filled with veterans of the Czarist Okrana for decades; I have read arguments that Stalin won because the Czarists supported him as best to recreate the Empire.
Good analysis as always from Peter, and I certainly appreciate the contrarian view on Ukraine. That said, I'm not sure I agree with it. First, the United States possesses vast stores of weapons and ammo which are quite capable of supplying Ukraine for months and even years to come. Second, I think he underestimates the productive ability of the US, so thoroughly proven in World War 2, to gear up to more than meet Ukraine's wartime needs. Third, even if America alone wasn't up to the challenge, he neglected to mention that the US happens to be among a 30-nation coalition called NATO (soon to be 32), many of whom posses huge stockpiles themselves and have already been pouring aid in much aid, from arsenals like the UK to the small Baltic states. It will indeed take some time to fully gear up production and fully hammer out logistics. But in the meantime, all Ukraine has to do is more or less hold the line and Not Lose, for which they've already demonstrated a remarkable capability. To be sure, the fog of war is indeed a reality and who knows, Putin just might manage to pull this off. But time is definitely not on Russia's side.
a news agency that was going to drop an expose on the supplying of arms to Ukraine and then pulled it, was saying in the trailer of the documentary that 70% of the weapons the West is supplying is being fed on into arms black markets. Ukraine was the most corrupt nation in Europe prior to the invasion and still is - especially as thei conscript army is severly demoralized and losing badly. So they just concentrate on making the best of a doomed situation which means selling arms to see after their own situations as best they can. We've been providing a lot of weapon systems that were ill suited to a virtually untrained conscript rag tag force and they can sell these systems to shady actors that will have all the time in the world to train units on how to master and be effective. The Ukraine is just the Biden Aftganstan fiasco all over again but on a vastly greater scale - especially in terms on long term consequences
I agree. There are more modern weapons the USA is already supplying to Ukraine that don't need a lot of training of Ukrainians. M777 howitzers for example. Ukrainians already have soldiers trained in artillery. Sure the M777 is different from what they're use to, the same way a Ford F150 is different from BMW i3. But a driver of one can get into the other and drive it virtually immediately. To drive it well, that takes practice, training that is best not done on the job. Similar with fighter pilots. They're use to the Su-29, and many of them were already trained by NATO in tactics. Putting them in the cockpit of an F15, F16, F/A18, or Grippen is a matter of getting them familiar with the new craft, not training them how to fly. (An F35 is a much bigger leap, but that leap becomes smaller once they're in the previous mentioned planes.) So the west can relatively easily keep giving weapons to Ukraine for quite some time and doing so as a way of upgrading NATO (If you send Ukraine your 12 F-16s, we'll send you the same number of F35 as replacements.) The one thing Peter is forgetting, to prevent a direct NATO-Russia confrontation which even Peter says would be coming and would put nukes on the table, NATO needs to win this, even if it means fighting to the last Ukrainian.
better to get Zelensky to concede and negotiate with Putin to become a neutral state and cleave off eastern Ukraine to Russian Federation occupation and then do huge defensive build ups on that list of NATO nations that Peter says Russia would invade next. There it will be very clear top Russia that they would be clashing directly with NATO military might and would get utterly decimated Pushing Russia into a desperate corner just means triggering the use of tactical nukes on the battlefield (which rather quickly probably becomes ICBM exchanges and the true end of the world as we know it)
Retired now. But still have my skills as a laboratory tech, Water and Waste Water Operator both domestic and industrial. I would be willing to teach my skills to others. I don't need the money but love seeing the success of other people and that would be my pay off. Plenty of us boomers are like me.
I don't mean to be flippant, but the point of Boomers as we move forward is that you need to STOP TAKING OUR JOBS! Every retirement age Boomer who keeps on working is forcing someone in their 50's and early 60's to NOT be a manager, leader or senior person. You are taking the best paid, most senior positions, and as a secondary effect, no one younger than you has the income to buy a nicer house, travel to Europe, pay off their kids student loans to let them start their adult lives debt free like YOU did, etc.... You are responsible for managers being able to deny mature workers raises since, hey, they have the dude with 40 years experience still working.... If you do it as a volunteer... THAT'S WORSE! What company will pay a totally competent 55 year old to train someone on a paycheck when you offer to do it for free? Your heart is in the right place, but please, for the love of god, stop earning money. Let someone else take the top slots. Even today our demographic group outnumbers the 40-60 year olds. You crush us underfoot BY ACCIDENT. Stop. Enjoy your retirement. You earned it, you deserve it. And the rest of us deserve our chance to be on top now.

They're not getting fired en masse, they just have a hard time getting a new job. It's not the same thing at all. And while I do not know you personally, it is extremely unlikely that you have a single unique skill that cannot be found in someone in their 50's. If your industry is that blind to the future, it deserves to crash and fade away. All your HR people should be fired for incompetence. Demographics don't lie. There are more older workers still working today than at any time in the past. This is because Boomers as group were the largest group in our history. And if you think "prospects are better today" then you truly have been ignoring every bit of data showing massive income inequality, decreased upward mobility from lower to upper quintile incomes (it's measured in 1/5ths, I have no idea why), a complete lack of wage increases compared to any historical period and a wealth of data that very clearly shows the increased difficulty in making a living today and for the past 30-odd years. Did I mention multiple recessions and economic bust cycles and COVID? Student loan debts for AA's, much less BA, BS or other advanced degrees that need decades to pay off? Homes costing 10x an annual wage instead of 5x (which is what my own Mother had)? One thing you can control is retiring. Force employers to find, groom and PAY new workers for the most advanced jobs. The sheer number of Boomers at all levels is one reason wage growth has been so slow for the rest of us. We have no leverage! COVID has driven a few million older workers to choose to stay retired. Now we have some leverage. Why do you think the $15 minimum wage has caught on NOW and not any time in the past 30 years people have been screaming that it's nowhere near a living wage? It's not an accident, or the media. It's employers not finding workers. And that's where you and millions of other older workers (who can afford to) retiring helps. It's not about you, it's a social problem that you can help fix by retiring. You can't stop greedy CEO's, or rapacious student lenders. I like Peter ,but in 2000 to 2005 as they shut factory's down in NC it felt like we were embracing globalism in that time.. Although starting around 2016 ,most of those jobs came back!

I thing Iceland is the oldest Governed State in the world? Peter always ignores what Keynes wanted the Bretton Woods conference to be. If his plans had been taken on it'd have cured the economic problems in the world. It is NOT true Bretton Woods or its results was only about security. It was economically very successful compared to the pre-War state of the world. Peter is so successful his over-simplifications are potentially noxious.
Keynes was not in charge and his world view was not the aim of the conference he was there like everybody else to hear exactly what the Americans were going to do.
Peter is right in everything being discussed, except his frame of reference is only this past century--the worst century in its 4500 years under inept Manchurian Dynasty. The CCP has had the right attitude in learning to do the right thing and has a brief record of success. I believe it will continue and outperform America in the next few decades, realizing its potential.

I have a hi-tech and aviation background, retired, and hated retirement. Went back to work as a PLUMBER and now help run a fantastic services company. Peter is RIGHT regarding the trades. We’re doing great and our employees are young, healthy, with zero debt, houses in the country, and young families. At age 25 they’re 15 years ahead of their college educated, urban peers.

I guess it's all relative... We need more college educated workers in the coming years for specific trades. If you plan college right it's not that spendy. And some companies pay for college.

If you're 18 and still reading this, not really sure what to do, find a welding, fluid power, electrical, electronics, etc program in your area. I get phone calls weekly for job offers. Don't rule out what a degree can offer. With a four year degree out of HS you're done at 22 and possibly making $100k a year. But if by chance you know someone that'll give you a chance as a tradesman without an education take it.

@@satchell78 It's worth noting that the idea of a college degree for the necessity of work is starting to slowly die. First Gen Z is often rebuking college having learned from the millennials that it doesn't actually help you in many instances. So many ways to basically waste it. Secondly, companies have been learning that the college degrees previously used as a mark of qualification really aren't that useful since so many went through college and came out of it dumb, in debt, and useless. Largest employer of English degrees I believe is Starbucks and don't underestimate how many have English degrees. With a relevant degree in the relevant field it is important.
And finally, worthwhile to mention is that an Associates Degree isn't really the degree most are referring to. Associates is effectively the "some college" in the education category for a lot of questionnaires. The 4 year bachelor's degree is the one which is major specific and the one which a majority of college degree holders hold since that's the one which is ideally supposed to get you a job. That's the one which marks you took a field specific course load. 2 year college is none of that. That's a trade school or Associates. Not actually one which is in colloquial use with "college degree"

6. Medical schools
7. Nursing and diagnostics technician schools

10. Orthodontics
Dentistry and orthodontics are some of the big separators, as are EMS and advanced diagnostics that are standard at Level 1-4 trauma centers.
The established narrative is just false, erroneous, filled with bad info and uninformed data sets compiled by people with an agenda.

I keep hearing the narrative that, 'people come from all over the world for our healthcare'! Poor people aren't coming here for care, the ultra wealthy are. Because they have the means to pay for it.

Try calling and getting mental health professional help right now. Many are booked and aren't taking new patients and the ones that will have months long wait times.
Insurance works the best spread over a large group of people. Working for small companies the high costs of insurance were always blamed on a smaller pool of workers. It makes the most sense to get the largest group of people possible for insurance to spread the risk. The largest group of people is EVERYONE.
You want to spark entrepreneurship? Disconnect healthcare from your place of work. I know so many people who can't afford to quit their job because of their work provided insurance or who were only able to start a business because one spouse could grind out at a job they didn't especially like so the family stayed covered while the other got a business started.
The numbers speak for themselves, the most efficient and cheapest way to get healthcare to everyone is universal healthcare. A Koch funded study grudgingly came to the same conclusion! Unless of course, you like people suffering with preventable diseases and tied to shitty jobs. Which, I think, is the unspoken truth behind many of these arguments.

The US has financed and protected development of the world for decades. FDR isn't responsible for that though. The best thing FDR did for the US was keeping troops out of the ETO until 1943-1944. I am Native American. My Family has lived in Texas since the beginning of Recorded Time. We had to learn to Adapt and Change when the White-Man Arrived (Perhaps I should say Europeans Arrived). I was taught to buy my own land and grow my own food and to make My Own Way in the World. There was a time when the Comanches would kill you so you had to learn to make alliances with the Spaniards & Americans. Our land seems to always be changing, be Optimistic, You Just Need to Adapt.

Our political class did a poor job explaining this to our people since the end of WW2. I suspect some of that was by design: It was easier to obtain forgiveness than permission. The sanctions against Russia is so badly advised that it can, if not split European Union (EU) and NATO, at least paralyze it. I would say if EU goes down Russia will stay on it feet's. And to import a workforce to US. suggest you do as Canada do.. try to find the people that fits in and not get all the misfits..

The more grounded constituents, in those places, are naturally abhorred by the behavior of the US government.
The philosophy of grab, steal, kill, lie, cheat and then brag, doesn't sit well with high value, moral begins, and never will. If you believe that a cesspool of degenerate, ungodly creatures, made so by those who control their government, is on a path to any kind of success, you are gravely mistaken. America was chosen as a resource with which to create an Army for Satan. This may sound crude and unforgiving, but is it deniable?
My condemnation does not extend to any genuine, decent person who happens to be an American citizen. I respect such souls, and really would like nothing better than to go to America and meet them.
Perhaps that sounds like a contradiction, but as much as it is a clichéd sentiment, it must be true. There are good American people. They just have the worst government in all of human history.

Is anyone else skeptical of his optimism? I’ve been binging him the past 6 months cause he does think broadly and he seems to factor in a lot of moving parts. But man…as Americans we’re so thirsty for optimism since there’s clearly a lot of dysfunction both internally and abroad.
On 2 levels I’m skeptical of his optimism cause I almost can’t unsee the fundamental dysfunction I see….but in addition to that I am craving an optimistic sounding voice. Peter is certainly correct about the demographics of Russia vs Ukraine and, all things "equal", that would mean an eventual Russian victory. However, The Ukrainians have proved to be formidable and have the "unequaled" advantage of defending their homeland. It makes me think of Vietnam where, demographically speaking, the US should have won easily...but did not. Because of the previous example, I think Peter may be wrong about this "prediction" of an eventual Russian victory.
This is an old repost. PZ's "predictions" were predicated on the known buildup of the initial invasion. 6 months later he's singing a different song. To be honest, I don't think anyone expects Russia to come out of this alive, let alone "win" something.
He almost contradicted himself when he said that the midterm forecast for Ukraine wasn’t looking good, because he also said that the U.S. can’t let Russia win. There is no situation where Russia pushes past Kyiv because the U.S. and our allies can not and will not let that happen.
Russia has no interest pushing any further in. If it was an invasion it would have been unbelievable. It was I believe an incursion. The United States not only incurred relentlessly into other nations we shocked and awe bombed the hell into Iraq. Now we proxy weapons by the billion dollars into the Ukraine. What about serving the eighty billion dollars towards peace in the Ukraine. It is a mad mad mad mad madness!

Were I President, I think one of the first things I'd do is what Zeihan has described. We have had programs like Job Corps, though I don't know if they are still around. I'd like to see a President recruit people like Zeihan and maybe Mike Rowe, as well as the likes of Thomas Sowell, to formulate plans and then help implement them across the country. Trade schools, apprenticeships, a revamp in middle and high school education, the promotion of job training through military service, encouraging more in the way of part time work for those who can't work full time, better counselors for people who need to discover career options, and so on. I think one of the problems we have is that young (and sometimes old) people just don't know what to do with themselves. They need to be productive, but they aren't sure how to get there. I am also fairly convinced that is part of why some end up in college. Because they can just put off work or choosing a major for a couple of years. So much that people could be DOING.

What does Peter mean when he says that America is the only country with Millennials? Does the US have a disproportionate amount of people in that age group relative to other developed countries?
For reference, he says it at 7:09 but I’ve heard him say that in other videos too.
He is referring to the idea that the US has a demographic benefit from more young people coming into the workforce than those retiring. In China the opposite is true. They have more people retiring than new people coming into the workplace.

I really like listening to Peter Zeihan and this guy, the optimistic American, sounded reasonable until he called the Russians the Soviets. You do realise the Soviets have been gone for 30 years.
You assume that the Soviets were not the Russian Empire Redux. Certainly, the Cheka/NKVD were filled with veterans of the Czarist Okrana for decades; I have read arguments that Stalin won because the Czarists supported him as best to recreate the Empire.
Good analysis as always from Peter, and I certainly appreciate the contrarian view on Ukraine. That said, I'm not sure I agree with it. First, the United States possesses vast stores of weapons and ammo which are quite capable of supplying Ukraine for months and even years to come. Second, I think he underestimates the productive ability of the US, so thoroughly proven in World War 2, to gear up to more than meet Ukraine's wartime needs. Third, even if America alone wasn't up to the challenge, he neglected to mention that the US happens to be among a 30-nation coalition called NATO (soon to be 32), many of whom posses huge stockpiles themselves and have already been pouring aid in much aid, from arsenals like the UK to the small Baltic states.
It will indeed take some time to fully gear up production and fully hammer out logistics. But in the meantime, all Ukraine has to do is more or less hold the line and Not Lose, for which they've already demonstrated a remarkable capability. To be sure, the fog of war is indeed a reality and who knows, Putin just might manage to pull this off. But time is definitely not on Russia's side.
a news agency that was going to drop an expose on the supplying of arms to Ukraine and then pulled it, was saying in the trailer of the documentary that 70% of the weapons the West is supplying is being fed on into arms black markets. Ukraine was the most corrupt nation in Europe prior to the invasion and still is - especially as thei conscript army is severly demoralized and losing badly. So they just concentrate on making the best of a doomed situation which means selling arms to see after their own situations as best they can.
We've been providing a lot of weapon systems that were ill suited to a virtually untrained conscript rag tag force and they can sell these systems to shady actors that will have all the time in the world to train units on how to master and be effective. The Ukraine is just the Biden Aftganstan fiasco all over again but on a vastly greater scale - especially in terms on long term consequences
I agree. There are more modern weapons the USA is already supplying to Ukraine that don't need a lot of training of Ukrainians. M777 howitzers for example. Ukrainians already have soldiers trained in artillery. Sure the M777 is different from what they're use to, the same way a Ford F150 is different from BMW i3. But a driver of one can get into the other and drive it virtually immediately. To drive it well, that takes practice, training that is best not done on the job. Similar with fighter pilots. They're use to the Su-29, and many of them were already trained by NATO in tactics. Putting them in the cockpit of an F15, F16, F/A18, or Grippen is a matter of getting them familiar with the new craft, not training them how to fly. (An F35 is a much bigger leap, but that leap becomes smaller once they're in the previous mentioned planes.) So the west can relatively easily keep giving weapons to Ukraine for quite some time and doing so as a way of upgrading NATO (If you send Ukraine your 12 F-16s, we'll send you the same number of F35 as replacements.)
The one thing Peter is forgetting, to prevent a direct NATO-Russia confrontation which even Peter says would be coming and would put nukes on the table, NATO needs to win this, even if it means fighting to the last Ukrainian.

better to get Zelensky to concede and negotiate with Putin to become a neutral state and cleave off eastern Ukraine to Russian Federation occupation
and then do huge defensive build ups on that list of NATO nations that Peter says Russia would invade next.
There it will be very clear top Russia that they would be clashing directly with NATO military might and would get utterly decimated
Pushing Russia into a desperate corner just means triggering the use of tactical nukes on the battlefield (which rather quickly probably becomes ICBM exchanges and the true end of the world as we know it)

Retired now. But still have my skills as a laboratory tech, Water and Waste Water Operator both domestic and industrial. I would be willing to teach my skills to others. I don't need the money but love seeing the success of other people and that would be my pay off. Plenty of us boomers are like me.
I don't mean to be flippant, but the point of Boomers as we move forward is that you need to STOP TAKING OUR JOBS! Every retirement age Boomer who keeps on working is forcing someone in their 50's and early 60's to NOT be a manager, leader or senior person. You are taking the best paid, most senior positions, and as a secondary effect, no one younger than you has the income to buy a nicer house, travel to Europe, pay off their kids student loans to let them start their adult lives debt free like YOU did, etc.... You are responsible for managers being able to deny mature workers raises since, hey, they have the dude with 40 years experience still working....
If you do it as a volunteer... THAT'S WORSE! What company will pay a totally competent 55 year old to train someone on a paycheck when you offer to do it for free?
Your heart is in the right place, but please, for the love of god, stop earning money. Let someone else take the top slots. Even today our demographic group outnumbers the 40-60 year olds. You crush us underfoot BY ACCIDENT. Stop. Enjoy your retirement. You earned it, you deserve it. And the rest of us deserve our chance to be on top now.
@@markpukey8 There is a labor shortage. Especially in high tech esoteric fields like mine. Who trains new blood? Companies are not eager as you think to hire old folks and put them in management. Your prospects if you are smart adaptable and hard working are much better than mine were at a young age. You will do fine.

Age discrimination is a real thing. But that has NOTHING DO TO WITH the multiple millions of older workers who can retire who simply do not. They're not getting fired en masse, they just have a hard time getting a new job. It's not the same thing at all.
And while I do not know you personally, it is extremely unlikely that you have a single unique skill that cannot be found in someone in their 50's. If your industry is that blind to the future, it deserves to crash and fade away. All your HR people should be fired for incompetence.
Demographics don't lie. There are more older workers still working today than at any time in the past. This is because Boomers as group were the largest group in our history.
And if you think "prospects are better today" then you truly have been ignoring every bit of data showing massive income inequality, decreased upward mobility from lower to upper quintile incomes (it's measured in 1/5ths, I have no idea why), a complete lack of wage increases compared to any historical period and a wealth of data that very clearly shows the increased difficulty in making a living today and for the past 30-odd years. Did I mention multiple recessions and economic bust cycles and COVID? Student loan debts for AA's, much less BA, BS or other advanced degrees that need decades to pay off? Homes costing 10x an annual wage instead of 5x (which is what my own Mother had)?
One thing you can control is retiring. Force employers to find, groom and PAY new workers for the most advanced jobs. The sheer number of Boomers at all levels is one reason wage growth has been so slow for the rest of us. We have no leverage! COVID has driven a few million older workers to choose to stay retired. Now we have some leverage. Why do you think the $15 minimum wage has caught on NOW and not any time in the past 30 years people have been screaming that it's nowhere near a living wage? It's not an accident, or the media. It's employers not finding workers. And that's where you and millions of other older workers (who can afford to) retiring helps.
It's not about you, it's a social problem that you can help fix by retiring. You can't stop greedy CEO's, or rapacious student lenders. You can create demand for skilled workers which will necessitate better opportunities for younger mature workers. It's a trickle-down that actually works.

I like Peter ,but in 2000 to 2005 as they shut factory's down in NC it felt like we were embracing globalism in that time..
Although starting around 2016 ,most of those jobs came back!

I thing Iceland is the oldest Governed State in the world? Peter always ignores what Keynes wanted the Bretton Woods conference to be. If his plans had been taken on it'd have cured the economic problems in the world. It is NOT true Bretton Woods or its results was only about security. It was economically very successful compared to the pre-War state of the world. Peter is so successful his over-simplifications are potentially noxious.
Keynes was not in charge and his world view was not the aim of the conference he was there like everybody else to hear exactly what the Americans were going to do.

Peter is right in everything being discussed, except his frame of reference is only this past century--the worst century in its 4500 years under inept Manchurian Dynasty. The CCP has had the right attitude in learning to do the right thing and has a brief record of success. I believe it will continue and outperform America in the next few decades, realizing its potential.
