the number of times i've seen hera pulled out an impossible comback, this is by far the craziest. the game was so over, yet somehow he managed to snatch a w.
Didn't he mentioned something in meta shift video about full walls then proceeds to make in intentional hole in his base? Maybe he wanted to lure more units after he caught those scouts in feudal.
Those monks were a game changer. Dragonstar didn't make light cav to counter, only few. But otherwise he didn't make that many mistakes, Hera outplayed him in the end. Not giving up will get Hera to 3000.
When I was first learning the game, I started by maining Britons. One of my first losses was getting FC’d by a Goths player and getting my resources walled in. Learned the power of Huskarls against archers that day
what a crazy game, great work with the monks and defense, this is the best come back i have ever seen in aoe2 history you're the best aoe2 player for sure, and you're my favorite
Wow. That was insane and very interesting to watch. I feel your knowledge of resources management using the market like that. You balanced everything. I cannot believe how you could micro against the constant raid like that. It’s funny to see fights and the vils just working like that. In the midst of war. None of them ever get war fright or shell shock. All of your vills end with a lot of PTSD for sure.
You know, the funny thing about this... it's kinda how my life is going atm. Just a relentless attack that I feel is never going to end. It only soothes my heart seeing how defending as best as you can and waiting to go on the attack is executed here so strongly that I can't help but feel optimistic to keep going. Hera, that's one of the best matches I've seen you play. Congrats!
The comeback was legitimately insane. How you survived those raids is incredible. Truly unbreakable defense. But I don't understand why you consistently spent a lot of resources on booming in castle age when you desperately needed more army on the field to defend yourself. The knights did more damage than the huskarls this game. The Britons do have options against that at least in castle age, right? More monks earlier makes the most sense. And the cav archers never really worked, crossbows would've been cheaper. Then again, I'm a noob on the sidelines, what do I know!
I think the idea is that he was at disadvantage, fighting in his base and getting raided, with no strong civ advantage against opponent. In that situation, building army doesn’t help you win, it just helps you lose slower. Booming to build a big economy, try to get to imp first for trebs, while extensively using monk conversions to make extremely cost effective trades and buy time. I feel like Hera might be literally the only player who could’ve pulled that off, I was stressed out of my mind watching this. Incredible game sense and execution.
At high elo the mobility is extremely important. There's also the fact that archers can't run from Huskarls and that they do less damage against Kinghts than the Cav Archers do (once you substract that 2 armor out of the damage you edn up with 4 vs 3, so 33% more damage than the crossborws AND mobility AND much more health). Sure, Hero could go Pikes against Knights, but Huskarls would have countered both the Pikes and the Archers with no way to escape from them. The Pike upgrade would have been useless and so would have been the crossbow upgrade. Instead, mobility was important in order for Hero to hold the decision over what fights he engages in with those Cav Archers. The transition to Champions was important in order to get an upper hand against the Huskarls (even with the Goth discount, Huskarls are more expensive than generic Champions). Even if the opponent would have went for Champions in the late game, Goths lack the last infantry armor upgrade which means those Champs would lack 2 armor while having to deal with Cav archers which are perfect for engaging with most infantry. I may be wrong, but I have a feeling the opponent could have used some Elite Skirms in the late game to be able to engage with cav archers while protecting thsoe Skirms with Champions.
I'm getting back into this game, I used to play the old CD versions back when I was younger. Watching you play makes my head explode because you're mad fast and the multi-tasking micro stuff just amazes me. I don't think I'd get this good, but man I'd love to play at this speed lol.
Just want to give a thumbs up to Dragonstar. Usually Hera does not have to fight this hard to win a game, the way he is playing right now. Maybe civ match up was not in Hera's favor but we have seen him easily win in even worse civ match ups.
I think you won because you converted enough of his units to tip the balance. The monks came in clutch here. He did really well to keep the pressure on you on all sides but its also a double edge sword, meaning he would only have a cluster of half a dozen units in one area at all times, so with a group of monks, you could keep converting his units. At the castle age, it would have been better if he coalesce all his units into one group and just run you over through middle. I figure he had maybe 35-40 units at some point, definitely enough to overwhelm you.
This is why I like the existence of the Huskarl -- the fight is no longer just Knights vs. Archers and Spears with proper positioning, no, you gotta pull out freakin' Champions, a unit you'd almost never use on Britons, while enemy Champions are also being produced, Hand Cannons are get mixed in, Longbows are worthwhile again, and everything's countering each other.
completley lost for words. The 2nd hand stress from watching this was unbareable. I litterly couldn't take it at 22:40 and looked at the end if you won or even if it was the same game. MY GOD it was over like the whole game. Imagen being that dude dragonstar just assulting with full force - with no breaks - attacking every single spot of your base and having your oppenent just never giving up. This was truley a incredible game. It was a game of endurance! His brain must have been hitting the lava point
They should have a setting where every time you kill a unit or raze a building you get a percentage of what it cost the enemy to build. IRL if you are attacked and you repulse it you get to scrap all of the destroyed tanks and sell all of the captured supplies and such. It'd be like an anti-feeder setting where just sending waves of trash has a consequence. Maybe even bench mark bonuses too like 100 gold at 100 kill, 200 gold at 200 kills.....etc. Maybe some kind of fixed stipend for the player with the best kill ratio.
Thought Hera was going to tap out multiple times or his push would fall completely apart. Cav archers felt like a mistake that almost cost him the game but the opponent just made too many vils and should have went all in on military when hera was weak
I love seeing these comments. Why do you think pros don't make walls that often? Why are the people who do make walls not at this level? Weird. Also, I believe he already answered that question in an older video.
@@wanyshu1671 I "think" they don't do it because... they jut don't I have seen countless Vids of AOE2 pros and stonewalls maybe come up in 1/100 games (not counting arena, where you start with stonewalls) and a short wall with a gate would have went a long way here to keep the constant raids outside. but low elo players like building up the base, including walls. I did it back then and many others do as well. ofc they often overdo it until you hit an elo, where any bit of wall could suddenly be a castle instead, even if a wall worth 20 stone could save 40+ vills
That’s insane. I thought Hera gonna lose this game when watch half of this video. This is why Hera is the best player. How to counter Goth if you are archer civ? This video will tell you how.
The title doesn’t do this video justice. Insane plays.
10000% agree. This was a ridiculous insane game.
the number of times i've seen hera pulled out an impossible comback, this is by far the craziest. the game was so over, yet somehow he managed to snatch a w.
He is the "we are so back" meme 😂
Screaming just build the gate at that spot the whole time, but who am I to speak 🤣
omg so true
Id rather lose 40 villagers than waste 30 wood on a palisade gate

Yeah, 40 conversions is insane. Well dragon was in a tough spot because cav archer eat light cav.
@@EagleTopGaming it would be more cost effective to lose some scouts to cav archers to kill monks, than let monks convert gold units.
@@Jaageful Defensive monks jumping in and out of TCs are still tough. Not a bad idea to have more light cav for sure though.

This is the CRAZIEST game I have seen ever !
Maybe the coolest comeback I’ve seen from Hera!
That one holl in the wall fcked Hera royally, or am I trippin?
for sure. but as we know, at a certain elo you can't build walls anymore. it is physicaly impossible, so there was nothing he could do against it
even more worth to see the replay, how many villagers Hera lost but still managing to win is insane
