They then wanted me to take them out to Swiss to get used to riding in Europe as well as doing a bit of riding in the Alps. Well, they had a great time in our hotel near St. Moritz sitting on the balcony, with a drink in hand, admiring the views. BUT, I will say something. On their wing, which was loaded up to the gills with everything they could possibly need for a multi month tour of the UK and Europe, they could keep up with me on my Pan European and I'm not a bad rider. I just couldn't lose them! That bike, 2 up, fully loaded, could stay with me however fast I rode. What a great bike and what a great couple!

Remember brakes are always cheaper than clutches!! Also way smoother ride without all that shifting! That’s what I was taught and I’ve been driving over 50 yrs.
The only legitimate issue I have with putting a car tire on the rear of my cruiser is the bead geometry. Car tires and motorcycle tires have different shaped beads. I am waiting for someone in the aftermarket to make a rim for these heavy Honda battle cruisers like the GL and VTX that will mate properly to a car tire bead, then I am all in.

I think honda engineers would have tried all sorts of tyre,s on a goldwing use what Honda tells you to use . That is a beautiful part of the world. Glorious colours in fabulous sunshine. That's one hell of a bike. Superbly maintained & crammed with service paperwork WITH matching helmets. Life isn't so tough now eh. Marvellous.
These Honda GoldWings lifespan are legendary, much like the Honda Accord and Civics, with mileage well into the triple digits. On the other hand, as much as some people would like to believe, the car tire was never designed for the unique performance characteristics of a motorcycle. Dark Siding as it is known, is living in the world of the unknown. Without sufficient research or the supporting data on the use of car tires on Honda’s 1k pound touring rig.
One other thing...yeah lots of Wingers beg for a 6th gear....I have always felt like it was not necessary....notice how up above 70mph it really smooths out even more!!!!
I did the darkside tire thing on my roadliner I sold the bike but I had a new motorcycle tire put on to replace the car tire I didn't want to sell it like that.
I have two Gold-wings ,Aspencade and Interstate 900 lbs plus both are top heavy to drive in the city .I also can’t back them up. I had to put a carousel in my garage to turn them around. 1980 Interstate is fully loaded with only 19,000 Km. 1983 Aspencade is fully loaded with 165,000 Km. I have a 2008 Honda 750 Shadow Areo for city driving or a little highway 😅 . Their all kept up to date with maintenance and original parts. I love them all. Any way how is that one to drive in the city like for a couple of hours maybe three times a day?😊
I noticed he didn't get on the freeway like I did on a test ride. Still needs another gear top end. The tired oh it's supposed to wind tight at 70 doesn't work for me.
Yeah, you can feel the difference. I tried it, and hated it. Tried it on 2 other bikes, hated them! Now I have tryked it and look forward to a car tire.
You didn't signal right turn blinker when you pulled out onto the highway, and you didn't account for the car coming up behind you....I saw him in your side view mirror and he was only ten feet by the time you accellerated up to speed. Be careful dude!
These are a really beutifull bike and yes i love that color also obviously the previous owner was a member of the darkside plenty of pros and cons on car tyres ,the engines just sound so sweet these have been the pinacle of tourers for a long time smooth ,power comfort what more can you ask for.
Is that bike not amazing bro? You can see why I am partial to a Wing! You can see how you can easily log 500-800 miles a day i do not run a car tire but I go thru a couple sets a year usually running about 20k miles/year on my Wing. Most Wing riders are older riders and therefore do TAKE care of their stuff!!! Great vid. I have a 2008 model.
Love your episodes and channel Sean. Myself and the other half are thinking of visiting the US from Ireland next year and doing a tour from New York all the way down to you to check the shop out.
honda gold wing is my number favourite motorcycle rides good i mean I've seen 80s goldwings still riding i like also ultra classic but i don't see older Harleys riding around.
Sean I agree with the people that say you need to learn what you are talking about. First you say it is a " comfort" it is NOT there is no heat lever on the left nor the heated seat/grips controls . As for car tires there are people that like them. that is up to ones taste I'll go for the bike tire. You cut three left corners off that you were over the yellow lines and on the on coming traffic side of the road! Not a safe way to ride. As for life on bike I put 300000 on mine in 18 months so I hope there is a lot more than 35000 to the life! They run 200000+ . The 2012 -2017 as a new look to it than the 2001-2010. little changes in them.I know you are trying to sell it, BUT learn about what it is that you are selling. AND RIDE SAFE!
I’ve had many different motorcycles over the years.. I’ve never actually owned a gold wing but I have ridden them and I have several friends who own them. The gold wing is the best most comfortable motorcycle on the planet. If properly maintained they are also at least a 500 thousand mile bike.
Did you actually just say a goldwings lifespan is 35000 miles.. ive got 75000 on my 2019 .... Had 218000 on my 07 when i traded it in .... Both look like and ride like new
I think he either mis spoke, or he's thinking if a guy rides 1500 miles a year then this tire will last 20 years then he'll get a new bike, but alot of gw riders ride that in a year or 2....
35k miles??? "Life of the bike???" My '08 Honda 'Metropolitan' has 17k on it...and looks/performs as 'showroom fresh'.(original 'untampered' engine/power-train and exhaust...but w/just enough 'performance upgrades' to hit 42mph WOT)This little scooter is likely to out-live me! (I'm almost 64) Properly cared-for...a 'Gold-Wing' is 'life-time' purchase!(I've heard-of and seen 'wrecked' or 'neglected' Wings being 'down for the count'...but never of one 'worn-out' from riding)
@@andrewtucker9279 i plan to do that next year and get a trailer to tow up into the cascades. get myself a GF then meet up with Bigfoot for a forest orgy. lol
Same as my bike! Except...replace the grips with a thicker pair! You will not be sorry! Rides like a 600 cc sport bike! Get an Arai helmet, by the way! It is your head!
I'm watching you ride without gloves and listening to what you think is important, riding in the wrong position, not signalling at all and realized I am wasting my time here.
I hope that the entire life of the bike is a lot more than 35000 miles. The motorcycle tires I put on mine certainly last a lot longer than. couple of months.
On some of your other videos, you preach about safety equipment. Yet, in many of your vids you are not wearing gloves. The first thing to hit the asphalt when you crash is your hands. Practice what you preach!.
@@CurtisL8.3066 it shouldn't take anyone to instill common sense. A mate of mine crashed at 80mph with no protection. He was virtually skinned alive. There's an old saying "it's always the fools that die young" Listen and learn.
Ian Podmore buddy I’m 41 years old and wear gloves helmet riding pants and jacket wherever I go on a bike. I got in a wreck and after that I don’t play with that stuff. I was explaining what you were seeing while watching his videos.
This is both *dangerous* AND *foolish.* As a lifelong motorcycle technician/service writer, I can promise you that tripping over a 100-dollar-bill (your life) to pick up a nickel (save a few bucks) is the *very worst* of ideas. The Goldwing is one of the best engineered motorcycles in the history of such machines. Car tires are NOT - I repeat NOT designed for the rotational stress and shear that a motorcycle generates. I have heard every justification in the book by guys who want to put car tires on motorcycles - but more often than not, they all have two things in common: 1. A tight-fisted desire to save money, and 2. Laziness. And for the folks who make the insane assertion that it's been "PROVEN" safe? This is simply false. Car tires have and do fail on motorcycles. It has in the past, and (as long as people continue this foolish practice) will cause fatalities (that's death) in the future. Any number of nonsensical statements made here should tip any experienced/professional rider off to the absurdity of this post, but for those who are looking for good advice, this ain't it. I've ridden and serviced more brands and models of motorcycles than I care to remember over the years. No matter what flavor of bike you own - FOLLOW THE SERVICE GUIDES FOR THAT MAKE AND MODEL - NO EXCEPTIONS ! Some of these bikes have been wonderfully engineered down to a flea's eyelash over the years. Decades of precise mechanical engineering has worked out every detail of operation. The sport is dangerous enough without tinkering with something as critical as tires to save a few bucks. Good luck and safe riding - ATGATT ladies and gentlemen! :-)
you have no idea what you are talking about i have over a half of million miles of car tires on all four of my wings that i have owned and i dont do it to save money the car tires that i used are twice the price of any motorcycle tire let me tell you something else when you have a flat on the rear you can go to any tire shop and get it fixed i always tell them its off my trailer they fix it with no problem try to do that when you are hundreds of mile from home and you walk into a tire shop with that motorcycle tire on there they wont touch it oh but the way we ride all of the ozarks and all the curves we can find out west in the rockies
fedoragibson Remember this guy is just doing a ‘review’. He probably has ‘crotch rocket’ mentality. Haha. There’s one dude that has over 400,000 on his wing. I met him working at Daytona 2 years ago during bike week. He probably has more than 500k now. That’s all he drives!
I drive a Vulcan 2,053cc brute. My last payment is October. I'll be trading it in for a Goldwing...used. How many cc is a Goldwing? I'd love to have that 6th gear though! Vulcan has five & I keep looking for that sixth highway gear & it ain't there. What size is the car tire?
The car tire is a really stupid idea for many reasons and a car tire won't last any longer than a quality bike tire that is properly installed, balanced, loaded and ROTATED. And yes you can and should ROTATE motorcycle tires. How? Remove the wheel and "flip" the tire on the wheel. The main "advantage" to a car tire is they're CHEAP for a CHEAP ONE and you can buy a "new" one from a salvage yard for $20 vs. $150-200 for any new quality bike or car tire or a cheap new tire for $75-150. Car tires are not DOT-approved for motorcycle use, most are not "speed rated" for the speeds those bikes are capable of, they will KILL you in a heartbeat should you ever have "slam on the brakes" because they are far too "hard" and easily skid and/or spin out if you're braking and/or steering simultanously because they are "square" and "flat" and you end up on a "knife edge" when the bike "leans" and your "contact patch" and "grip" shrink to nothing in a heartbeat just when you want and need as much as possible. A bike doesn't put nearly enough load on one to make it "grip" and you damn sure better never ride in the "wet" with one because they will "hydroplane" in a heartbeat and again kill you in a second. And NOTHING will "highside" quicker than a CAR TIRE on a motorcycle and on a "top heavy" touring bike like that ESPECIALLY riding "2 up" you pretty much gotta be a complete idiot to "save money" running a car tire. And oh by the way, even if you're too bike clueless and inexperienced to "tell the difference" riding and/or looking, any "tire guy" AND "insurance guy" that works on or looks at your bike before and after the inevitable "accident" you're going to have "piling up the miles" on a bike on a car tire WILL "tell the difference" and you'll be "on your own" when it comes to "meticulously maintaining" and "replacing" your shitbox shadetree-mechanicked retard-ridden "new" motorcycle. Having any non-DOT-approved on a licensed motor vehicle i.e. "safety equipment" immediately makes it NOT "street legal" and in an "accident" in an "at fault" state OR especially a "no fault" state when law enforcement and insurance adjusters and lawyers start circling, it's a foregone conclusion someone will "catch" that car tire and no matter the circumstances "surrounding" the "accident", who hit(s) who and where/when/why/how, there will be "fault finding" in your "corner" for operating an unsafe non-DOT-approved motor vehicle on public roads and ALL "liability" will be on you at least as far as your own personal "damages". You cannot safely operate a motorcycle on car tires or OBVIOUSLY THEY WOULD PUT THOSE "CHEAPER" TIRES ON AT THE FACTORY. F'ing IDIOTS.
First of all, it has been PROVEN safe to put a car tire on the back of a Goldwing. Doing so has never caused even a single accident. When something works, it works, whether you like the sound of it or not. Motorcycle tires wear out way to fast on a Goldwing. But, I think it is fitting to put a car tire on a Goldwing, because the Goldwing is essentially a 2 wheeled car, without any of the advantages of a 4 wheeled car, and none of the fun of a motorcycle. The original Goldwing 1000 and 1100 models were nice bikes. But then Honda took it too far in the wrong direction. It definitely needs a lot less gadgetry, and a healthy dose of character.
A two wheeled car is called a motorcycle. I use motorcycle tires on mine so the bike will lean over safely and handle properly as it was designed to do.
Gerald, the Goldwing can be ridin like a sportbike and was initially marketed as such. I have scraped the pegs on this 06 of mine and I don't mean by droppin' it. The Wing is every bit as fun as any other motorcycle. They are badass bikes. Car tires were not tested on the 'wing and despite your claims of having been "proven" safe, they are not. Also ,if for whatever reason you get in an accident, even if not your fault the insurance company will see the car tire and they will not pay you, GUARANTEED.

I could not agree with you more. If you can afford a Goldwing you can afford the proper tire. The fact that some people got away with using car tires does not prove its safe. They are just lucky, so far.
Please show me an instance of where anyone has been denied a claim because of your opinion. By the way I have over 80,000 miles on a wing with runflat cars tire, more safety naturally.

That is a beautiful part of the world. Glorious colours in fabulous sunshine. That's one hell of a bike. Superbly maintained & crammed with service paperwork WITH matching helmets. Life isn't so tough now eh. Marvellous.
i know someone that has 460000 miles on his 1800 before he needed a overhaul. its not like a Harley Davidson every 60000 or 70000 miles.
I saw one with 510,000 miles.
Lay that wing down on exit at 60 me no if u get wheel hop u will different outlook on it
One other thing...yeah lots of Wingers beg for a 6th gear....I have always felt like it was not necessary....notice how up above 70mph it really smooths out even more!!!!
Any way how is that one to drive in the city like for a couple of hours maybe three times a day?😊
I noticed that you not corner very hard with the car tyre..........how does it handle excessive cornering?
The car tire would handle dirt and sand better. Especially bias ply.
Are your legs touching the fairing? That is the one concern of mine being right at 6' tall. I have heard that 6' is right at the limit.
What size tire is the one you have installed at the rear.
I love the wing
Way way way more than 35,000, think he was thinking 350,000 miles?
I love my GoldWing I hope to upgrade to a newer model in the next couple years
God bless you guys for being real and honest
That was a lovely scenic ride - Thanks
What size car tire is on the rear?
The best touring bike. The Cadillac of motorcycles.
scooby0006,....more like the BMW
Have you seen Cadillacs recently. Cadillac is the new saturn
short step BMW is the BMW of motorcycles
scooby0006 Cadillac suck
+MemphisMike respect the wing
Love your episodes and channel Sean. Myself and the other half are thinking of visiting the US from Ireland next year and doing a tour from New York all the way down to you to check the shop out.
Sounds like a nice trip.
honda gold wing is my number favourite motorcycle rides good i mean I've seen 80s goldwings still riding i like also ultra classic but i don't see older Harleys riding around.
How much is this gold wing if second hand?
¿where can I find the tire?
What are some good helmets to buy?
I have not own a bike in a long time and they are much different now than 20-30 years ago.
Shoei RF-1400. You won’t be disappointed
I LOVE my Gl1800 !! Best bike ever and I’m putting a car tire on mine next year after I wear out my newer rear tire.
I’ve had many different motorcycles over the years.. I’ve never actually owned a gold wing but I have ridden them and I have several friends who own them. The gold wing is the best most comfortable motorcycle on the planet. If properly maintained they are also at least a 500 thousand mile bike.
So no dark siding
8:24 im sure they didnt appreciate you cutting them off.
Which car tire?
i don’t get the title?
JBG TRAVELS he wants you to buy this Goldwing!
Did you actually just say a goldwings lifespan is 35000 miles.. ive got 75000 on my 2019 .... Had 218000 on my 07 when i traded it in .... Both look like and ride like new
What size car tire? Please and make
I hear winters are better softer
195/60R 16 , I also run a car tire on my 02 GL1800
The car tire did not come on the Goldwing from the factory.
Maby not automatic. It is a dual clutch transmission or DCT . Hmmm
hehe, 35k mile, life of the bike eheheh LOL try about 200k+
Why a car tire on the rear? Ok he answered 5:15 why the car tire is on the rear.
I have that bike color and 2007 and it is a gem. I love it
Too bad a bike this expensive doesnt come with flashers
good bike but i have both 1500 and 1800 since yesterday and i prefer the confort of the 1500 but the motor of 1800 , :)
Where's your gloves?
Oranje is the national dutch royal family colour. Thats why European like this bike in this colour.
I think he either mis spoke, or he's thinking if a guy rides 1500 miles a year then this tire will last 20 years then he'll get a new bike, but alot of gw riders ride that in a year or 2....
joracer1 1500 miles in 2 yrs. most Wingers ride that about every 6-8weeks!!!
MemphisMike me and the wife just logged 5k in 10 days. Needles highway and Iron Mt in SD were amazing.
Dammit MAN!!!!
MemphisMike 92 GL 1500SE btw. No break downs. Proud of the old girl! Tail of the Dragon aint got nothin on Iron Mt lol
35,000 miles,, the life of the bike. Wrong info dude.
you must be a sales man not a winger! good luck
I think he is actually a car tire salesman. 35000 miles is the entire life of the bike?
Of course he meant the current life of the bike, not its total life.
Itd be cool to put offroad tires on a goldwing. Turn it into a dual sport type bike
thats what im saying it would be a blast
@@SrkcyclesI'm looking into getting an older wing for myself. I wanna turn it it to a dual sport type bike
The guy never once used the turn signals. I hate that!
I'm watching you ride without gloves and listening to what you think is important, riding in the wrong position, not signalling at all and realized I am wasting my time here.
he also cut off a car at 8:23 hehe :D didnt have a protected green arrow.
yeah,,he's not a MC rider noway
Hi
Please I need your help
Is there any difference in periodic maintenance for 2010 goldwing airbag model and the model without
Thanks
I hope that the entire life of the bike is a lot more than 35000 miles. The motorcycle tires I put on mine certainly last a lot longer than. couple of months.
I thought the same thing. It was not a good sales pitch but he did not say how many miles were already logged.
Joseph Howard ,The tire on a goldwing will go bad around 18 to 23ooo miles,A gold wing will run for 250,000 miles Sir.
Never got more than 12 or 13K out of a m/c rear tire, that's why I went with runflat car tire, 23-25K on them.
I could be wrong…but I heard that a car tired is baaaaad for a bike. No?
Lots more life in wing after 35k seen with 300k bulletproof bikes if cared for
He doesn’t know anything about the Goldwing
Congrats sir
My son has one and bought the car tire because he got it as a “run flat” tire. That was reason enough for him to try it!
A couch on wheels
Is this a bike that you can lane-split with in heavy traffic? I need something like this for the nightmare commute of the SF Bay Area.
Sure. You can squeeze these things into space like a street triple /s
On some of your other videos, you preach about safety equipment. Yet, in many of your vids you are not wearing gloves. The first thing to hit the asphalt when you crash is your hands. Practice what you preach!.
This was a few years ago, before the ATGATT guys badgered him into gearing up for his videos
Thanks for the ride
This bike should have been double darksided!
The car ride thing is called going to the dark side.
My dads gold wing has 100k on it so 35k is not the life of the bike haha never had a issue
You are a very lucky guy bud .
35000 miles the entire life of this bike? wtf.
I thought that was an odd comment too. Wings will go hundreds of thousands of miles. The whole review lost its credibility when I heard that.
I know a GW owner who has 275,000km (170,000miles) on his 2004. This kid doesn't know what hes saying obviously.
hr2 pilot he probably trades in every year
fedoragibson
Remember this guy is just doing a ‘review’. He probably has ‘crotch rocket’ mentality. Haha. There’s one dude that has over 400,000 on his wing. I met him working at Daytona 2 years ago during bike week. He probably has more than 500k now. That’s all he drives!
That bike had 35k on it. The tire would have lasted the current life of that bike.
I like bikes not computers on two wheel...
1975-79 1000cc 80-83 1100cc 84-87 1200cc 88-98 1500cc 99- present 1800cc the 1800 runs a 195/60R 16 on the rear
5th on the Goldwing is overdrive and the flat six has an incredibly wide powerband
Outside the lines .....Outside, thanks a lot! Made a copy!
35,000 miles is the life of the bike Fuck that!
"Oh no...."
Psalm.1.25 Always love golding unless u like CBR Better
CRAP. This is an advert. Most of this is about the one bike.

"the entire life of the bike"? No, not only no, but wow, you dont know wings hell no
The entire life of the bike is more like 300-400k miles.
the jaspion motorcycle...
Nice one!!
