    I had both an 86 gl1200, and a 94 gl1500 and loved them both! My problem is every bike I buy I fix all the issues the previous owner never bothered with, and then sell the bike for the same amount I buy it for! Not a really solid investment strategy....

    I have an 89 Wing with 170k+ miles on it. Just had the water pump replaced. No problems. I switch between it and my 2018 Wing as my commute bikes. Love it! BTW, I get 40+ mpg on it. Biggest problem is sticking switches, like the cruise control! Electronic cleaner becomes a great friend!

      Yeah must be a Honda thing my 29 year old Shadow needs the turn signal switch cleaned ever so often or they start acting wonky. Another trick I learned about electronics on a motorcycle if you want to avoid down the road problems is dielectric grease in all the electrical connections. It keeps water out so they don't corrode, and then you have to track down where the short is.

      I have a '99 model. Getting all of the hoses replaced and thermostat now. Costing a small fortune in labor. Enough to buy another motorcycle. Runs good but I wish I could get 40.mpg. I can only get 30 out of mine with all new tires AND a tuneup still only gets 30. Have to fill up every 120 miles.

    This is the best test ride I have ever been on. I laughed so hard I cried. Driving down the road at 75mph whilst trying to force the vent open and balancing motorcycle parts on your lap. If only we had more of this kind of entertainment our world would be a better place. I am praying for your safety and your Honda.

    Watched your Goldwing video a couple of times while shopping for a mid '90's GW. When scouting craigslist and facebook market place I was amazed at the amount of Goldwingsthat are never garaged or covered up when not in use. The rain and sun ruin the plastic stuff. I found a nice one owner '98 for about 500 bucks more than the ugly bikes. As you say, great bikes.

    Grew up loving bad-ass choppers and racebikes. Finally at the age where i feel mature enough to ride bikes. For some reason i keep going back to a Honda Goldwing. Sure it's not hip,doesn't look dangerous or extravagant. But tbh...that's not what i'm after. I want to be able to sporadicly take a bike and do a 6 hour trip without breaking myself. Riding a bike should be relaxing at your terms. This type of motorcycle is actually exactly that for me.
    My granddad had several bikes. He's choppers were super cool but they gave me a headache and jointpain. The trips we made on he's Goldwing(exactly this model) were the most memorable to date. Wish me luck finding a solid one!

    I have a 1994 GL1500 and love it and agree about not being 100% cosmetically correct as long as it runs well. it have been stored for 5 years with no stabilizer in the fuel before I bought it and started it right up with a fresh battery and only had to run a bottle of seafoam through the tank to get it idle properly. I also have a 1976 GL100 and it still runs just as well as the 1994 :)

    I bought a 93 aspencade Cash only. Paid 4200 2 years ago. Good body flawless but not added chrome. Plain Jane. It does hesitate from the hole. Reverse works. Thank god. The bike flies. Seems to have no engine problems except the hesitation. Bought it because that body style was a favorite of mine and my dad had one of the first gold wings. Love the ride. The radio works but only out of one speaker. I’m not dissatisfied with my bike but it needs attention has all panels. After market windscreen. Needed new battery. Great bike.

    lol....ok here we go
    1...side covers explode off of gl1500's at speed, or when trucks pass you.Old school users glue a rope to inside so they dont lose it.
    2... 80% of all gl1500 have a cruse control out of calibration ( 5 components, all have to be perfect )
    3....50% of all gl1500's have a radio stuck on mute
    4....fast as hell for 900 pounds and a wall on the front...4th gear will pull so hard your eyes bleed ...will run forever....literally , old school, and I'll never trade mine in.
    The GL1500 was build between good old last forever engineering ( CB 550 4 for instance ) and modern sleek street bike eras (gl1800.....241 buttons?....really? ) ......the perfect combination of craftsmanship and modern tech

    • @ApexPredatorBoids
      @ApexPredatorBoids 2 роки тому

      Funny that you mentioned radio being stuck on mute. Mine was like that for so long and it irritated the hell out of me, even though I never actually use it. In my case, there was something about parking the bike with the handlebars all the way to the left that would make the radio mute. When I make it a point to turn the bars all the way to the right before starting the bike, mute usually goes away. Weird.

    Hey Sean!! Great vid as always. I see this vid is 2 years old, so I’m guessing you’ve gotten more education on ‘wings, but just wanted to help you if need be.
    Cruise: single button is off/on. Should light up on the dash when it’s on. I believe there’s a gear threshold as well as a speed threshold. I think it’s 4th gear and 30 mph at a minimum. Bottom button of the 2 is set/coast, top one is resume/accel.
    Suspension, the book SAYS not to air it up other than on the center stand with the rear suspension unloaded. Looks like it aired up for you just fine nonetheless.
    Hopefully this helps you out if you hadn’t found out about this stuff yet.
    I’m with you! They’re a great bike! I’ve got a ‘95 SE in green with 25k on it. Just did timing belts last year for safety measure, but never a hiccup out of it. As smooth as pudding!

    May not be doing a high enough speed for cruise control to work

  • @baldandbiking
    @baldandbiking Рік тому

    With any cruise control you have to turn it on first before hitting the "set". There should be a button there that turns it on and you should see a light on the dash. At 10:23 I can see the button that says "on/off" and I'm pretty sure you didn't press it.
    As for reverse, this is one of the few bikes that has it, and mainly because it's just so huge and heavy, it can really help with getting in and out of parking spots, or as you said if you accidently pull down to park on an incline. It's pretty hard to paddle walk an 850 lb bike backwards uphill. I have a hard enough time on my twin and wish it had it.
    Old Goldwing's are definitely becoming the old classics that people buy simply because of the nostalgia, then they ride them and have the time of their life. If I had enough garage space, I'd probably get one just for that reason. I've seen quite a few 80s and 90s models for sale (cheap!) that are in absolutely mint condition. It would be a blast.
    With the air vent in the windshield I think that black clip unlocks it, then you can open it.
    Good luck with the sale! Better get some gas!

    In my '84 1200 interstate, the high windshield is great because I am just shot enough that I don't even have to have my visor. All I need is bugslide put on my windshield, makes it spotless as it I don't even have one.

    As i can recall the cruise control works only in the OD (5th gear) and only when the speedometer has at least 60 k/h (or 80 ?) . I had the GW 1500 SE(1990 m.y.) back in '93-'94. The CREME DE LA CREME ! for those who have heard of that GW's nickname, because of the 2 tone white-beige color !

    I bought an 88 goldwing about 3 weeks ago and have yet to decide if I like it or not. It's big. It runs good. And none of the accessories work and I am putting all the plastics back on it, the guy I bought it from had taken off.
    But blah blah blah.
    Do you know it there is a lowering kit for these monsters and how hard is it to rebuild the front end?

    • @edwardjones8170
      @edwardjones8170 6 років тому

      The front is just an old school sliding forks, just like a billion other bikes. At least my 2001 GL1800 was, and PS it felt like a horse cart next to my 2000 R1150GS with telelever front.

    To open the vent, try lifting the deflector/damper a little to free the selector lever. They all stick a little.
    You're rough on your equipment. Maybe less coffee? Just a suggestion -
    I have a '94 1500SE. It's taken me thru 27 states thus far, towing a Bushtec trailer, and in comfort 👍 Great bike & affordable too 😊 Good times on a Goldwing !
