Oona is a treasure. Although she was not appreciated by that family, she still cared a lot about her ex-husband and is a wonderful mother figure to Bean.
Bean connecting with Oona was honestly the keypoint for me.
then both on drugs was amazing
I love that they're close now. Bean has someone to talk to.
@@slashercat8649 that was so funny
This taught me a lot that I still have to get through in my family life!
I'm the "666th" like!
the best parts of part 3 were oona and bean’s ‘friendship’ and mora
Oona >>>>
Oona has always been my favorite character ever since she said she was the "Class clown?... Is joke? Or is?" 😂 every character beat since then has been great. And the drugs 🤣🤣🤣
Dude... is okay, you can call romance
@@heyitsnasira how Bean recaps 3 seasons while she was high is hilarious 😂

I overall just missed Lucy a lot this season. He's my favorite character. I loved seeing Bean's growth tho and that moment when she was talking to herself felt so relatable it hurt!

"It's a comedy..."
Yeah, didn't feel like that with the king. His story was dark, so dark. I really didn't see anything funny there.
At some points it made me want to cry.
His story really made me cry. Bean taking care of him broke my heart.
Comedy is not supposed to just bring cheap laughs. Comedy can be many things, from a political satire and social critic to trump jokes. Although some are more rewarding or funny than others, that does not mean that having a serious moment in a comedy is bad. I think they balanced very well the funny part of his illness with the sadness it brought .
That's just the creator's style. Futurama had lots of arcs and episodes like that. Simpsons, too.
everytime the king honked i laughed my ass off
Also the show itself makes fun of the mysteries repeatedly. They are the plot, but the joke is that the plot going on doesn't matter to the individual lives trying to just get by. Them literally walking away from Leav-o repeatedly when he tries to explain, the dad's constant near death near confessions, etc.
Drawing attention to and making fun of the cliches you use and the problems with your plot don’t make them any less of an issue, it just makes your writers look significantly worse.
Yeah we know, we just don’t care enough to fix this shit ya’ll.
@@justincanu9153 I think it goes beyond that, though. It's not just lampshading. It's literally that all the magic macguffins and all the mystery boxes don't matter. They're outright saying that doesn't really matter, what matters is the people living their lives. That's the story they're actually telling. Like reading old diaries from famous wars and events, everyone's mostly just focused on living their life.
@@LowbrowDeluxe except the entirety of the plot and everything that goes on is dedicated to these magical macguffins and ancient prophecies with the character interactions being the filler in between.
@@LowbrowDeluxe I like that interpretation! Fantasy as a genre has much potantial, but most authors are lost between hinting, foreshadowing and big big mysteries. But instead of giving us a reason to care, most storys try to show, how cool they are. Big battles, epic scenes... but they all mean nothing if you don't care for the characters.
"All of season 2 could have been in season 1 and nobody would have noticed"
Here's the thing about that - it is. Season 3 doesn't exist at the moment. It won't until Part 5 & Part 6 for Season 3A and Season 3B if we get that.
They're called parts and not seasons because each "part" is only half of 1 season.
Parts 1 & 2 are both Season 1.
Part 3 which just launched is just the first half of season 2.
This also goes a long way to underpin alot of the problems people have with this show - both parts 1 & 2 are season 1 and so introductory. And part 3 was only the first half of season 2 - which sets us up for bigger plotlines later in the shows run. Many shows continue building stories and lore past the first half of season 2 where we are now. And given how little of the story we have at only a season and a half into the show, not even 2 full seasons yet (this will be part 4) it shouldn't surprise people we haven't gotten answers to everything yet or vast payoff. This will probably come up in the other half of season 2, and through parts 5 & 6 and season 3 if we get it.
Edit : Loved the video btw! Great work! and I adore your voice.
This comment didn't get enough attention because most people don't realize this and it does seem to be the biggest problem people have. Everyone assumes its season 3, while we are only halfway through season 2 at the moment. Netflix needs to make this more clear.
@@panspermiapancakes I entirely agree. Thanks for the comment.
Currently Disenchanted is only slated to have 5 parts... so by your logic this show will only have 2 seasons and a half? This kinda thinking is a little peculiar like they’re called parts but that doesn’t mean they’re different from seasons, because fundamentally they’re the same thing. Creators use different names on how they think it works with their show that’s why some shows call their seasons chapters, or parts or books. It’s what fits with the general style of the show that is chosen.
@@aussieboy4279 a quick google search will show you that season 2 starts with part 3.
They do parts because netflix never knows if shows will be a hit or miss. Thats why renewals can only go so far. Plus, when you split a season into parts, this typically means the fans of the show have something else to look forward towards later in the year because more episodes ideally will drop. We've had delays with covid, but generally speaking, this was how they planned on doing it. if you drop content twice a year, it keeps people wanting to return because its more fresh in their memory.
@@panspermiapancakes Netlfix production cycles are honestly very frustrating in general. 10 episodes every year or so is a ridiculously small amount, especially when compared to a network. I think it prolongs a lot of shows awkward growth periods for years. For example, with Parks and Rec, people say the show doesn't really get going until Ben and Chris show up, but that is at 30 episodes in. Had it been a Netflix show, we'd have been at the end of the 3rd year of the show at best before the ball got rolling at all.
If they just released more episodes at a time, I think that they would at least from the audience perspective be able to work out the awkward period faster
And Oona screaming on the ship and when she swam in the pool 😂.
I literally choked when she did it again in season 3. I forgot how much I love her until she did her drugs & just screamed like girl same
I needed to see more of Luci this season. I love that little shit.
The reason why everyone’s favorite episode was the mermaid episode was because Elfo wasn’t in it
elfo was lowkey annoying in this season
@@xra2581 I KNOW RIGHT!! He’s always annoying, but something about this season was just way worse
true
I think that episode shows that beans sexually is possibly bi or lesbian
@@skootergirl22 well I’m pretty sure in the earlier seasons it was said bean had a lot of sex while getting drunk and partying whether or not they were male or female we are unsure of.
I did like this season but the finale was.. Idk, it didn't really seem as intense as it should've. Just kinda felt like any other episode
I feel it's gonna be big in S4
@Liam Slater the troll with his eyes stabbed is named junior and is the son of the ogre queen and king
The fact that the green smoke turned out to be the exorcist almost lost me. Three episode buildup and it was a smelly pork cooler.
My favorite episode of Season 3 is “Last Splash”
In any case, it’s not the first time a Matt Groening’s show is thought to suck only to get better.
last splash was ass imo, not because of the gay tones. because of how the entire episode is bean bitching, just bean talking on and on and on. genuinely annoying
@@wageblackfur8400 I was mixed on it, on one hand bean’s whining got so annoying I actually ended up skipping it. There’s a scene where she complains for two minutes straight and it was really annoying. On the other hand, it’s nice to see a romance that’s not written terribly like most of the other relationships in this show. Bean and Mora had nice chemistry, though I do wish they fleshed her out a bit more.
No way, the part where elfo is trying to repair the ship while bean is having her internal monologue out loud with mora watching was gold imo
You know that's the second time Matt had an episode where the main character has a thing for a mermaid the first is that one futurama episode where Fry falls in love with a southern mermaid from Atlantis 🤣
@@scootermcpeanuts6699 I agree the whole episode felt boring and kinda pointless I ended up skipping the rest of the episode 😂
I genuinely feel like it just suffers from "Netflix syndrome." Like most shows on Netflix do this thing I feel where they just plant so many seeds to try to get people to care and watch and conspire online for netflix to keep renewing them but the story board people don't exactly have an actual story to tell. Its like they pitched an idea to Netflix and Netflix is like "brilliant I want episodes on it now or we aren't doing it" and the writers are just like well we will just keep bringing new ideas and see what happens and then jumble an ending. Sabrina did this so much where there were so many like plot points that just never got addressed again
The production staff has said this is an actual demand of Netflix
You mentioned getting rid of some the running jokes and them being old. But the one that I wish they continue is Derek and the Big Skillet.

The reveal at the end was teased in season 2? It feels like theyre playing a super long con for every mystery and are just boring us in between and when something finally does happen it just feels like a "yeah...ok" moment.

While I agree this season had narrative drive, the overall structure was still wonky. Plot threads were just sort of shrugged off: "Um, my evil mom is living in our basement with an army of troglodytes should we maybe...no? No, okay. I like how the show broke so much stigma. Like the evil stepmom trope. The whole mermaids are into men to seeing a lesbian mermaid or possibly a bi mermaid.
Do you even know what stigma means? How is mermaids being into men disgraceful? They broke some stereotypes sure, but most are not really a stigma.
@@drafezard7315 what you or your culture think is a stigma is not the same as what I our my culture stigma. By asking this question make you sounds ignorance to others culture. I didn’t say that “mermaid being into men disgraceful at all”. What I meant was it’s nice to see mermaid in a lgbtqia community, bc normally at least in my culture mermaids or sirens hate or love men depend on the story. They only lure men and they only attracted to men. Just so you know this show has been watch my other people in other countries too and people outside of the USA exist, we watch shows on Netflix too just saying.

This show became probably my favorite animated show out there, though I have been following from the moment season 1 hit Netflix I just can’t help but feel good and excited when watching this show
Things I hope for: They reveal who Elfo's mother is. We have been waiting for too long. Luci becomes an angel, because he's been redeemed in the eyes (wherever they are) of God. Or, he tries to get back to Hell, so he can find Bean and Dagmar, then Elfo (or the other way around), but finds out the God is too humble to anger via insulting him directly, so he insults Jerry. We find out who Bean must marry in her destiny (it might be Guysbert), Zog gets a break (he's been through enough), and there is of course, the dark and vulgar humour that defines the show. And we learn what happened a hundred centuries ago, which is 10000 years ago (I did the simplistic math). And, there's an elf civil war fought over the throne found below Dreamland, Bean finds Mora's necklace, and we begin firing some of the Chekov's guns set up, as well as Derek getting over his PTSD (Post-Traumatic Skillet Disorder). And we get some villain team-ups, either temporary or permanent, because they are all after the magic of Dreamland, and we get more character development, and undeveloped characters get fleshed out more.
YES! I love the Luci getting redeemed theory!
But guysbert is dead
Ew No, Bean Will Marry Her GayMerGirlfriend
Oh man this season was great, worth suffering through school to get to watch it
The pacing now reminds me a lot more of Big Mouth and Bojack.
I love Oona and I hope she gets enough screentime next season.
I still chuckle when the jester gets tossed.
Oh and Jerry's banter with God is amazing.
We also mostly know the answer to Elfo's mom, even if it hasn't been said yet and the last episode is supposedly leading to a *GASP* reveal of it. ETA: Okay, you covered that.
I feel like these season finale cliffhangers have gotten a little played out.
@@NerdMiGerd yeah, that one is definitely them lampshading it unsuccessfully. It's clearly intentional, but it's still kinda just bad writing.
@@LowbrowDeluxe For Part 3? I don’t know if it was lampshaded per se, it felt like they were playing it straight. I just think that after two massive cliffhanger endings in a row it feels too predictable to be shocking.
More just getting to point of saying it out loud and getting it so Elfo knows. They made it clear who's Elfo's mom was in the Magic Berry esp.
I don't think it's supposed to be the Gasp moment.
That's when Luci ends up in heaven.
Not everything has to be a Gasp moment. Some things are just to move the plot forward.
I like disenchantment but I wanna love it. Like I wanna see where this end up
Kinda hoping in the next season Mora will show up with the necklace hurt, ready to argue and Bean's just so happy to see her that the fight goes nowhere and she just ends up confused as Bean just glomps into her and won't let go.
This show is starting to feel a lot like Lost, too many questions and not even answers. You just watch they're gonna have to plug a sewer pipe beneath Dreamland as the series finale.
i agree that this season had better world building and characterization but less memorable character interactions than season 2 and more long un funny bits
Yeah I feel like that mainly has to do with the fact that this season tries to be more serialized which is a better option cause they were pretty much having a identity crisis in parts 1 & 2.
Commenting for the algorithm!! I love your stuff you are always so thoughtful with your reviews and call out the annoying/problematic stuff. ✨
Thank you Sarcastic Chorus! I too enjoyed season 3 of Disenchantment the most. I love the whole show in it’s entirety.
I totally forgotten about the Jester... Oh no!
I haven't actually watched this show myself yet, but my brother really loved the first season. Glad to hear it's still staying good into it's third year 😊
The mystery boxes are a huge headache for me as well. Not cause it's super complicated, but simply cause nothing gets answered.
Zog's story also seems hella bad handled. You mean you got this macabre setting full of death and decay? The ruler cracks under it just now. Although mental institutions apparently already exist?
It's just to get the plot moving forward, they acknowledge that some parts are just rewritten. Though it doesn't excuse bad execution
Remember the evil green smoke? That's just some dude grilling sausages. Oh and ogres are suddenly appearing scaling the castle. What a wonderful coincidence amirite?
Gasp! Convenient coincidences in a TV show. LoL, because that's literally every plot.
@@meoff7602 "all stories are made up, that's why bad story telling doesn't matter"
That's a bad argument. Why not strive for a cohesive story w/ complex characters? Avatar was amazing in their world building, adventure time was whacky, but the characters were compelling.
Why waste disenchantments potential with random events, when you can create an intertwined story?

Yes, I really liked Avatar. Even Korra.
Part 1 & 2 feels like a first season, where it's getting on its feet, introducing characters, setting up the world, and establishing the overall story going forward. I wouldn't be surprised if in the original plan seasons (or parts) were meant to be 20-ish episodes long
Are we all ignoring the crown on the corpse the Trogs dug up when the got King Zog?
Hot take. I think season 2 was good.
I don't remember any of them being bad, really.
It was just really filler
@@ambidexterity1 Agreed, just got annoyed by Elfo and how causal they are about the situations they're in, so many enemies lol.
I honestly thought the whole episode that the psychic machine Elfo was in love with was a younger version of the fortune telling machine from Futurama
Every season so far has ended with dagmar taking bean to some strange previously unknown location. Is that intentional or just uninspired?
Hell isnt unknown tho, part 2 basically started in hell, if you mean the church yes but it is still hell

I think there just recycling the same formula tbh bean and her friends end up in trouble and Dagmar shows up ones again out of nowhere leaving the episode off on another cliff hanger rinse and repeat
Intentional? If you think about it from Bean's perspective, each time, the stakes, the danger she represents, are higher and higher each time.
I'm just glad they did something with Steamland, though it should have been the main focus over Dagmar and the Ogres.
One thing this season had was a theme. It was abandoned or being alone. Dealing with mental health. It's funny this came during a pandemic as hits hard
Well the one thing I think everyone can agree on is that the most talked about thing in Part 3 is; Bean and Mora.
This seems to be something of a trend at the moment in animation. Girl/Girl Shipping. We've got Catradora, Lumity, Harlivy etc. So what do we call their ship? Morabeanie?
That's a trend everyone needs to thank Korrasami for
Tiamora is a good ship name, or Splashzone, or Kiss The Girl: Gay Edition

Wooooo yeah baby!! That’s what I’ve been waiting for that’s what it’s all about!
I really liked first two seasons, something with it's chill atmosphere and aesthetics helped me with waiting for rather scarce great jokes. Third season is a blast tho, story catched up and humor is much better (or better paced).
I loved the first half of the show. I loved seeing steamland, it dipped down a bit in the middle but then picked up again towards the end and answered some questions while opening up more.
While I understand they end each season on a cliffhanger to get more viewers, I'm starting to find it a bit repetitive and irritating. It also seems season 4 might confirm a Theory I had
The Elfo-Bean romance was not dropped at all, in fact it was referenced a lot part 3, even more than in P2 i would say as Bean is actively talking about it, mostly with the "yeah he its nice but no", and Elfo is channeling it into jokes "this ruins some many fantasies but it open some news ones". So it was placed in the background and at the same time they gave Bean and Elfo other LIs.
For reference, the Fry-Leela romance was also place into this state a few times. But yeah, it was good they ease it a bit because it was getting old fast.
I agree about the lack of payoff and the frustrating use of Dagmar to end seasons in the same sort of cliffhanger again. The season was still an enjoyable experience but it's hard to be invested in the characters when we don't understand their motivations like you said.
i legit loved this season. I am totally invested.
Imagine side lining Lucy the best character, what was the writers thinking?
Watching to get a little refresher for part 4 soon 😮💨💅🏽
Haven't watched your review yet, but I agree part 3 saved the franchise. Loved everything about FAR more than I did the previous seasons.
Testamnt to how weak the mysteries are was, despite watching the whole show, I only knew of three of the mysteries you brought up. Any mystery that wasn't talked about this season I completely forgot about. No lasting power in my brain, and I often remember shows pretty well.
I think the reason why some arcs aren't developed (eg Luci) while others were partially (eg elfo) cuz Im pretty sure each season were split into 2 parts and Part 3 is actually the first half of season 2. I imagine this might have been envisioned as a network tv show
Most shows have a mystery box. Disenchantment has an mystery Christmas gift exchange.
I wanted to drop on Disenchanted because of how it wants to act like it all "one long story", but the episodes didn't connect. Part 3 changed it and made me excited for Part 4. I still believe that they should work on "set up -> pay off" part.
Hate having to wait a year for 10 new episodes
The king losing his noodle was pretty hilarious. All the honking and such.

I think this is progressing like the creators are used to tv and now they are getting used for a new-ish medium, and about the mysteries, it is like 3 at most, because most of them are intertwined
I'm in a minority here but I actually prefer Part 1 and wish they'd have made it more of a traditional sitcom with standalone stories. It's been 3 years and we still have no idea WTF Dagmar is actually up to, just more vague mutterings about a prophecy and greatness and blah blah blah. There are too many 'stories' at once going around in circles with no payoff and I just want more adventures like Bean throwing a party in the castle and it being crashed by vikings and the episode with Hansel & Gretel. That's where I thought the show was at its best. Part 3 - although visually STUNNING - mostly just confused me and raised more questions. I need to watch it again and play closer attention I think because I'm just a bit lost. The show hasn't exactly been a hit so I can see Part 4 being the last, if so they've got a LOT of loose ends to tie up in 10 short episodes!
15:49 I truly believe they write a draft for each episode with all these holes and forget to fill them before they air.
I agree so far part 3 is my favorite I love it when they're in Steam land I like the steampunk Style also the graphics were beautiful I'm glad I was high when I first watched it lol it was trippy😵
I do wish the money and arrows in the Merkimer episode had come back. I was wondering when that was going to come in during the climax and seeing it not get used irritated me to no end.
I believed I commented on this last video, but I think Part 3 was when the writers had finally gotten audience feedback for the show, and could implement changes accordingly. By the time they released Part 1, I think they were still well into production on Part 2.
Part 2 was when the writers hit a groove pacing-wise, and Part 3 was them actively addressing Part 1's issues.
Plot twist: The curse is the amount of plot tie ins Bean's family has to deal with.
I absolutely loved the story driven episodes of this season and I think the comedy was still really good with just a lot of jokes landing
personally picked up on part 2 but part 3 is elevated!
The Merkimer Episode was Kind of tied to the rest since they freed the his body at the Freak Show so we got at least the payoff off that
This season definitely caught my attention unlike the others. Don’t know how they did it, but I want them to keep that spirit
Anything calls it's seasons "parts"
Every anime fan: jojos?
That’s completely different,
Netflix calls the seasons parts that is different than the original jojo manga being called parts
At this point Elfo's inconsistency feels like is on purpose
The mystery plots so far. Elfo's mom. Where is Returno. The guy in the ice cave who knew Bean's name. Bean the Chosen One. Maru's debt to hell. The Maru crown that needs to be jabbed in a head. Why Bentwood wants Dreamlands resources. The curse of the Oøgs (House Grunkwitz). The deal with the mermaids. Why did that Orc help Elfo? Bean's magical powers. The Secret Society of Oddval, Socero & others. The deal with the Trøgs & why Elfo, Bean & Luci are their saviors. Why does Steamland want Zøg dead. Why is Bean in a hell wedding. Why does Alva "really want's" the love of Bean. Is it more than love? Was that bear cub the offspring of Ursula & Zøg. Is Freckles alive. Is Mop Girl & Miri the same person & is she part dwarf & possibly the daughter of Yøg? And the only solved mystery is that The Elves want Dreamland back.
I was so relieved Bean got character development lol it was a close call
I love how you call it Disenchanted every time xD

You know what bothered me the most in part 3? the missed opportunity to do a Witcher reference, when Bean goes to "hunt a moster" in E8... i was fully expecting to ser her with dual swords on his back!!!! argh!
Gotta love the beard dude
The coin scene in the mercermer episode is so good
@sarcasticchorus have you seen Final Space?
If not, you should give it a watch. It's awesome and would love to see your take on it.
Wow actually seeing ur actually self paired with ur voice feels so weird😂 U look handsome btw man!
Honestly say what you want elfo will always be one of my favorites especially in that hi I'm elfo scene
Honestly, my biggest problem with season three was that episode ten didn't have the naming scheme of the last two, being titled "X Falls".
Esposodic episodes are new... I like it
Luci and elfo are my main favorites. But I'm starting to like chazz. Hope there's more of him in the show.
I totally agree! I've finish it right now and I'm soooo annoyed by the fact that nothing seems solved, they brought things from the first season again and I didn't remember or care about them, and then they add more on top of it. It's so much going on that I find it to be more and more difficult to care about the characters and the plot in general. To me the humor is not paying off the effort, so I think I'm dropping it. Still some good moments in this part tho.
Ik its only going to season 4 but i need more! I kinda feel like theres gonna be a spin-off or movie
Yea completely agree with you. Season 1 gets a pass because it’s the beginning. But with season 2 being exactly the same as 1 and just mostly filler episodes really hurt it. I felt like season 3 was the perfect middle. There no big overall story but each episode works together. I hope that if there is a season 4 it’s like season 3. But idk I feel like they keep hinting stuff and never paying it off.
The biggest problem is that they dont make me feel that build up tension of what’s gonna happen next, cuz after u really watch a episode that had the plot, they throw u in abundance of jokes and filler till the tone and mystery of the show is just a hollow shell till u hit the end of the season🤦🏽♂️
Well I'm pretty sure the Elfos mom thing has been answered aswell. She was almost definitely those new grey creppy elf like things. (Cant remember what they're called)
They are called Trøgs but there is a slash in the o. Lol
@@leosolcanonizado4065 Thanks dude
Actually it’s almost definitely the ogre queen. Elfo kind of looks like a trog, sure, but in season 2 the ogre queen recognizes him, then the ogres come and raid Dreamland in season 3 saying they’re not leaving without Elfo. And in S2 Elfo’s papa finds out about his feelings for Bean and makes a comment about how his mother was a tall lady too.
@@nixxdra oh yeah I guess that makes sense
