I just love Oona the moment she was first introduced. At first i was really scared that she will fall into the typical evil stepmother trope but im beyond happy that she didnt! And she instead was the actual kinda motherly figure for Bean even if just small ways
She’s so underrated, and Bean never realised Oona was the mother figure she needed and wanted all along - if she had just opened up to her. Oona wasn’t a mean or cruel stepmother either (which is great - it could’ve been so easy to fall into that trope); she’s eccentric, independent, a little lonely (so they definitely had that in common) and has a very weird sense of humour, but she obviously cares deeply for Bean. Plus... when you’re another species it’s a bit hard to give your stepdaughter advice on sex, even if your intentions are good 😂🤷♀️. I love how much her character has been developed this season too ❤️

So she got added to the list of favorite characters that I originally wanted to punch or kill (which is eternally growing...)
I too love Oona. She's got like aspects of that monster stepmother in appearance and weird habits but overall she's generally pretty cool. I was sad we didn't get much of her after she went to become a pirate queen but her and Bean's drug trip bonding session was honestly fantastic.

The thing about Oona is that unlike a lot of characters, she has actually had character development and character growth. While a lot of characters have remained fairly the same since the first episode.
Yeah, I kind of agree on this. With Oona, everyone seemed to be much more consistent. For me, even though the show uses a more medieval setting, the two queens seem to be more like pastiches of 4 of Henry 8th's six wives; Dagmar being more Anne Boleyn and Jane Seymour whilst Oona is more of a Catherine of Aragon and Anne of Cleves situation. Fantasy loves to hate on step parents so it was a good idea to make her the weird but loveable one. In a way, despite being one of the most fantasy-based, she's also one of the more contemporary characters. It does bring a point though; Oona must have been married to the king for over a decade and been Bean's Stepmother for that long. That's a long time to go without any sort of bond. What is interesting is that, when she's no longer her stepmother, she and Bean are able to bond. Kind of cliche but, in another life, they could have been close friends.
Great video! Oona has definitely become my favorite side character, glad you’re giving her the attention she deserves! Though I actually think this latest season was the first time it embraced its story driven focus and serialization. Not sure I agree with the characterization issues you have!
I think all the characters are good, and I think that season 3 was the best one so far. I like it because while it did cut back on the comedy, it focused MUCH more heavily on plot, which is something this show needs. I don't think it's fair do judge Dagmar just yet, since we still don't know much about her. I also think that Elfo and Luci are interesting because their demeanor often contrasts with their actions. Elfo appears childlike and generally tries to do the right thing, but a lot of times can be petty or overcome by lust (lust isn't a bad thing as long as you're not hurting anyone. Elfo doesn't hurt anyone, but it does contrast with his childlike energy), with his more negative aspects shining through in later seasons. Luci is the exact opposite. He appears crass and rude and generally wants to be bad, but in the end can help doing the right thing, with the more positive aspects of his character shining through in later seasons. I hope we get to see more of this contrast as the show goes on.
this season felt so slow omg and so many storyline opening like dreamland elf secret, luci in heaven, the steamland, the mermaid romance, the prophecy and dagmar continuation, I just hope Zog could recover (it would be funny if he recover because of chazz treatment lmao) and Oona came back for season 4
I wish we got more Oona and Bean bonding moments - hopefully Bean will end up crossing paths with the all time best pirate queen in a future season either while sailing or even accidentally getting rescued from a ship that Oona’s crew happens to plunder leading to shanagins at sea.
i love Oona so much. i was so afraid that she'll be the "evil stepmother", but she actually loves (or at least likes) and cares about Bean and i think it's so cute
I agree with you, I loved Oona already since the beginning, immediately recognizing her as the exotic oddball. I also love how you mostly sync your voice with the footage shown, it´s great! :D
Agreed. In the first season it would makes sense to see her as a melania trump figure. But then her character grew and became much more of a person than any of the trumps will ever be.
Can we just talk about how talented and funny Tress MacNeille is as a voice actress? I legit cackled when she was tied to the ship bowsprit screaming. 😂
As you already said it would have been even better if they showed her realization and decision to become a warrior. They even had an amazing opportunity when she was chained up under water. They could have shown her struggling to free herself and being close to giving up, but then making her remember how she dreamed of becoming a warrior from childhood on. This realization who she REALLY is could become what gives her the finally strength to free herself.
I got to your channel through a random recommendation. The last time that happened, the person had 37K subs 10 months after, up from 250. And with this video quality, lightning will strike twice.
Oona is the perfect mix between crazy and reasonable and she seems the only person who really wants to help Bean. Also she is the only part of Beans family who isn't too absorbed in their own business to be helpful. I needed some episodes to really like her but then she got straight to the top.
While it isn’t perfect in how it’s done, Bean does get some level of character development. By season 3 she’s more responsible and tends to react more to situations rather than causing conflict through being drunk or rebellious. Contrast to season 1, where nearly all of the conflicts were caused because she was being drunk or rebellious. She’s seen how easily the people of Dreamland will turn on her and her own father, the king, isn’t in a position to aid her. Derek is a doormat for the likes of Odval and the Archdruidess. When she does become queen she does more in a day than Zog has done as king the whole show. Bean has also developed in her relationship with Dagmar, in that she is clear in not wanting one anymore because of Dagmar’s duplicity.
Call me crazy but I've always liked Queen Oona and thought she was beautiful! The more we get to see her character the more I am fascinated by her reactions and ability to stay level-headed during a crisis! Personally, I would love to have a wife like that by your side despite how crazy things can get!
She been my favourite since ep 1 when she first did the drugs I just loved her character it sounds kinda weird but I just thought she was really funny and underrated
Oona is such a genuine character. I love her, and to this day I still do. She has a genuine sense of humor, and I adore her. I love and appreciate that you called Oona "nice" because she really is. I also appreciate you pointing out the fact Oona has no friends. This is a wonderful video essay about a character who deserves it. More than any other character in Disenchantment , Oona deserves this the most. I agree with everything you say about Oona, but I didn't consider Zog going insane was a joke. Infact, I found it incredibly painful to watch seeing him become this way.
Subscribed. Finally someone gets it! If it wasn't for her, I would've stopped watching somewhere in season 2. Criminally underrated. Edit: Yes on the Zog-madness too; it was old by the next episode for me. Also, how badass the writers made such a solid female character. A total badass who still doesn't sacrifice her compassion or anything!? So. Refreshing.
Oona is such a fantastic character!! Thank you so much for this video! I love her because you don't initially expect much from her aside from lazy "trophy-wife" trope writing, but I love how the writers have subverted her whole arc, she is a loving person, genuinely cares about Zog, Bean, and Derek, is wonderfully warm, funny, unapologetic and a badass. They could have easily written her out of the show once she went off to become a pirate but she comes back, takes care of Zog/holds the kingdom together the best she can, supports Bean when she can, and wants Derek to grow up more independent. She's initially portrayed as an unhappy desperate housewife and people esp the cast write her off. She *tries * to deal with the situation with Dagmar as best as she can but is set up to be the fallguy, (in her own words 'evil step-mother' trope is problematic) but Oona handles herself when it becomes apparent that Zog and Bean are too infatuated with who they believe Dagmar to be. But when Dreamland is under attack she attempts to save Bean because while she and her step-daughter aren't initially close she is a mother and knows how much Zog cares for Bean. Hers and Bean's relationship has been one of my favorite arcs of the show. She becomes a pirate queen, is politically astute, and she and Zog part ways as friends- because I believe that is what they always have been- they were both forced into a marriage due to Yog's death and the war between their countries, and they made do with a crappy situation. Oona is very independent-moreseo now that she has a "kingdom" of her own- and she doesn't believe in handholding Bean and Derek, she's there to support them so they can be their own people. Anytime Oona is on screen the writers do so much with her character that she has been a joy to watch.
I really love this show, even though it might not be 'lmao', it still has its moments and I'm a huge fan of medieval settings so it's a treat for me 😂 however, when it came to part three of the show I was pleased but also a little annoyed. I think Oona got some INCREDIBLE development in part three, so much as to actually forming a bond with bean but I think it was a little drawn out in episodes, and as much as shows want to leave cliffhangers and plot holes to explore its the like the show seems to open new ones and it gets frustrating as you want to know more. Perhaps thats just what they want do people keep watching? But that still doesn't entail some of its drawn out nature. Oh well, I do really enjoy this show regardless. This is purely just my opinion ofc 😂 this video was awesome and I agree completely :) Oona is great!! 😂
Glad I'm not the only one who thought this. When they *spoiler alert* had her go off on her own and become a pirate I thought that was so badass. If they made a spin off show for Oona that was about her adventures at sea, I would absolutely watch that
I saw this in my recommendations when I started the show and told myself I wouldn't watch until I finished. I'm two episodes away from the end of season three and I really did see why you loved Oona so much as I watched the show. Luci is still my favourite (despite his issues because I'm just that type of person) but Oona is definitely my second favourite
I don't think Zog going mad was played for laughs, to me it was very dark and sad because his madness was brought on by being tortured by Odval, Sorcerio, and Arch-Druidess.
Excellent video! Oona really is the best character. I agree with your observation about the writing/character inconsistencies for Bean and Elfo but for me Odval always seemed power hungry and any timidness in the first season seemed to come from a predator waiting for an opportunity kind of thing. Also even though I am unsure of what they are doing with Dagmar I think she's consistently unlikable as that is a big part of her character not unintentionally
I've never watched the show, but Oona seems pretty awesome. I'm getting some Morticia Adams vibes Also if she becomes a pirate... Might check it out eventually
I wish she would show up more. My favourite season is 3, mostly because she's has the most screen-time. Also, because it shows just how good of a person she is. She bonds with Bean, helps her with the conspiracy, and genuinely cares of Zog - even though they're separated.

I adore Oona so much, her design is wonderful, her personality as well. I love the way she speaks the most.
She's the ultimate girlboss.
“you probably didn’t think much of her in season 1”
bold of you to assume Oona isn’t everything i’ve ever dreamt of in a partner but go off i guess
I loved the quote from oona about how the evil stepmom trope is so toxic. She's a great subversion of the trope, truly the best girl.
@@vaermina5081 It's spelled Chazzzzz
@@TodosLocosOfficial 😂😂
Tentacles down the best character, all hail the pirate queen! Ya-har!
Oona is actualy the only reason why i still watched this show.
She is by far the best character and i hope she gets a happy end by the end.
Oona was a actual mother to Been
oona is single-handedly the best character on the show, period. she is so likeable and unintentionally funny. she deserves more recognition
I agree with you, I loved Oona already since the beginning, immediately recognizing her as the exotic oddball.
I also love how you mostly sync your voice with the footage shown, it´s great! :D
The real ones been knew Oona was the best character
Leavo wasn't the only elf who left Elfwood. There was Returno who never returned & Elfo's dad who probably snuck out & snuck back in.
Agreed. In the first season it would makes sense to see her as a melania trump figure. But then her character grew and became much more of a person than any of the trumps will ever be.
You gay bro?
...
Oona has the purest hero arch
Can we just talk about how talented and funny Tress MacNeille is as a voice actress? I legit cackled when she was tied to the ship bowsprit screaming. 😂
She is a gift from the Lord himself.
The thing that really solidified her as my favorite character was when she ate her drugs
It kills me every time
As you already said it would have been even better if they showed her realization and decision to become a warrior. They even had an amazing opportunity when she was chained up under water. They could have shown her struggling to free herself and being close to giving up, but then making her remember how she dreamed of becoming a warrior from childhood on. This realization who she REALLY is could become what gives her the finally strength to free herself.
One running joke is when Oona goes
"Is ____ ... Or is??"
And I literally can't get over it I use it for everything 😂
Is funny...or is??
YES. It's my favorite XD
I got to your channel through a random recommendation. The last time that happened, the person had 37K subs 10 months after, up from 250. And with this video quality, lightning will strike twice.
My top favorites in Disenchantment is def: 1.Oona 2.Luci 3.Bunty :)
Honestly, I love Bunty. She's probably my favorite side character next to Vip and Vap.
I loved in "Tiabeanie Falls," while Stan is rescuing Bean, he says, "Other than me good self, there's no one in the world Bunty loves more than you."
She’s my favorite character! Thanks for giving her some attention!!
Oona screaming gets me instantly, especially when she did drugs with Bean 😂
She is my fav character too! She really becomes the mother Dagmar could never have been. Her relationship with Bean is very sweet.
Oona is the perfect mix between crazy and reasonable and she seems the only person who really wants to help Bean. Also she is the only part of Beans family who isn't too absorbed in their own business to be helpful. I needed some episodes to really like her but then she got straight to the top.
She appeals to my mommy issues to luch after finishing the series and I have a teeny tiny crush on her now
While it isn’t perfect in how it’s done, Bean does get some level of character development.
This is wonderfully explained, you covered literally everything I couldn't put in words
Im impressed by her morals, even when they treated her as they did so did she still aim to fulfil her duties or help people.
Oona is literally the only entertaining character
Luci kills me though. He cracks me up more then any, but Oona is definately tied for best
Luci, Elfo, Merkimer, and Derek are amazing too :(
Ahhh I’m so hype this was recommended. I was very excited to click on your channel and see you have more disenchantment videos!!
She been my favourite since ep 1 when she first did the drugs I just loved her character it sounds kinda weird but I just thought she was really funny and underrated
I have loved Oona since Part 1, way more than the main cast tbh. :D
She was my favorite character since episode 1 for certain
Anytime Oona is on screen the writers do so much with her character that she has been a joy to watch.
this is so eloquently done, i couldnt agree more with every point!!
13:31 Watching her fix Bean's hair I wish I had her skills as a hair dresser. She one handed made a bun.
7:30 Okay this part is great
Hell yeah someone talking about my favorite character! Awesome video!
I started this video fully believing I'd go away without believing the title, but you sold me on the idea for sure
Oona makes a big comeback in season 3.
Glad I'm not the only one who thought this. When they *spoiler alert* had her go off on her own and become a pirate I thought that was so badass. If they made a spin off show for Oona that was about her adventures at sea, I would absolutely watch that
Oona was my favorite from the start to this day. Like, legit- she's just epic. xD
Is epic...or is
My favorite in Elfo it might sound weird but I love him as a character
Anytime he's just a little tougher than the other elves I'm dying lol
@@PeterFrikadelle lol
Even though the show treats him like a joke Elfo has his moments. He's a badass when he has to be
We really need more of this show it was epic
Oona is indeed best...
...or _is_?
As bean once said “Oona you beautiful blue goddess”
I quite enjoy your way of making this video, this is the first video of yours I've seen and I know I'm going to watch quite a few more, cheers!
I think Oona telling her dream rather than flashbacks is meant to play into her whole “Alien Bluntness” thing she’s got.
Comment "character analysis" "Dreamland" and other key words for the algorithim
Same, I love Oona. I love her character design and profile.
OH YEAH this is the content i needed today
Same!
Tress MacNeille elevates Oona to an Epic level
I saw this in my recommendations when I started the show and told myself I wouldn't watch until I finished.
I'm two episodes away from the end of season three and I really did see why you loved Oona so much as I watched the show. Luci is still my favourite (despite his issues because I'm just that type of person) but Oona is definitely my second favourite
I don't think Zog going mad was played for laughs, to me it was very dark and sad because his madness was brought on by being tortured by Odval, Sorcerio, and Arch-Druidess.
Well done, thank you.
You are excellent, and deserve 500,000 subscribers.
I'm getting some Morticia Adams vibes
Also if she becomes a pirate... Might check it out eventually
I wish she would show up more. My favourite season is 3, mostly because she's has the most screen-time.
Also, because it shows just how good of a person she is. She bonds with Bean, helps her with the conspiracy, and genuinely cares of Zog - even though they're separated.
2 years old still true
she reminds me of hilda from ranking to the kings
i still think they should rename it to "ranking of the Queens" due to her love power
