This album is too huge to absorb in one sitting you did a good job. I hope you go back for more lessons kicked it in the sun is one of my all-time favorite songs.

Built to Spill is kind of its own thing but influenced many bands they get no credit for. Duster is kind of the same genre in fact two members of duster were in Built to Spill for a while.
One of my favourite albums of all time, I love how Doug Marstsch made an entire album revolving around his struggles with manic depression and the like, only for the very last song on the album to turn to the listener, asking the same question that Doug did throught the whole thing. Just like "Rock 'n Roll suicide" by Bowie, this song cut through to me so fucking hard when I first listened to it. "You don't like anything,0cause you're unlikable, all because you're not interested in you anymore"
One of my all-time favourite albums, here's my recommendation list: The Wrens - The Meadowlands Self - Subliminal Plastic Motives Bark Psychosis - Codename: Dustsucker Bark Psychosis - Hex 12 Rods - Split Personalities
You gotta do a Death Cab album if you haven't already, my vote goes to Transatlanticism or Narrow Stairs, both really atmospheric groovy records that this album heavily reminds me of!
Love this album so much. Top 5 for me. I don’t know what genre but I call it swirly guitar indie rock. I want you to know I appreciate the thought you put into your comments! Especially when it’s a favorite album, one hopes you’ll catch the special verses/sounds/etc and mention it after, and you killed it with this one! Another excellent record they have is Keep It Like a Secret. Similar vibe but shorter, punchier tunes. It’s fantastic. Cheers!
What I like most about your channel is that I can actually discover new music watching you thanks Smags. Allsosome emo would be sick Deja Entendu by Brand New is an amazing experience. I loved this album aswell. ❤️
Built to Spill is the best! Oldie but a banger! Velvet Waltz is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Definitely my favorite live band. Great review, you should check the newest album, "When the wind forgets your name". Its amazing. Keep it up!👍
Some albums i would love if you reacted to: Queens of the stone age - Like clockwork System Of A Down - Self Titled The Clash - London Calling Gorillaz - Demon Days The Voidz - Virtue
Bro you can react to: Clube da Esquina - Milton Nascimento & Lô Borges ★ (Blackstar) - David Bowie Mount Eerie - The Microphones Songs in the Key of Life - Stevie Wonder Atrocity Exhibition - Danny Brown Donuts - J Dilla The Forever Story - JID 22, A Milion - Bon Iver
I was waiting for this one :) Seems like you really got immersed in this album's sound because you didn't comment much while listening, haha. That's not a complaint though, I get it. Keep It like a Secret is their other masterpiece and you should definitely check it out. It's more "normal" structurally and the songs are shorter and poppier, if I can say so, so that's why it maybe doesn't stand out as much in the indie rock scene. In terms of quality it's pretty much on the same level though. It also contains their most popular song! Not gonna name it though, try to figure it out yourself Other legendary indie rock albums that you need to react to are The Moon & Antarctica by Modest Mouse and Emergency & I by The Dismemberment Plan. I've been requesting the first one on your videos from time to time so perhaps you remember some of the things I said (probably not since you get so many requests but whatever). The production on it is not as aggressive as on The Lonesome Crowded West so I'm sure in that sense it'll appeal to you more. For me it's an S-tier album and really, there's not a single complaint I have for it. I don't expect you to be as enthusiastic as me but I have a good feeling you'll react positively to it. It's certainly not a happy album and has a cold and melancholic sound (accurately conveyed by the title). It should fit the current season though, so don't miss out on it, heh. You'll probably forget about it but one thing that I highly recommend is to listen to the track Night on the Sun off the eponymous EP. It was made around the time this album was recorded and man, this song blows my mind every time. As much as I love almost everything from early Modest Mouse, I don't think anything tops this one The second album (Emergency & I) is also amazing. A great mix of neurotic energy, creative sound and clever and occasionally funny lyrics. Early 20s (talking about your age, not 2020s) is THE time to get into this album, haha. I also have to say that while this album is quite well-known, at least among indie rock fans, the band is kinda forgotten which is unfair. Their next album Change is almost as brilliant but it seems like no one ever talks about it for some reason. If you really like E&I, it'll be awesome if you check it out as well
Everytime I see you upload I'm so happy!! Genuinely this is one of my favorite channels out there. You already know, you should check out Jim O'Rourke "live at Japan 2002.9.16" (thanks to these comments I know the title by heart now, but is it "at" or "in" Japan?). Anyway I'll wait however long to see the reaction I only want you to listen to this album cause I want to share it's beauty!
Love built to spill! Recommendations Lil Ugly Mane - Volcanic Bird Enemy and the Voiced Concern Oneohtrix Point Never - R Plus Seven Arca - Kick I-IIIII
If you're having doubts about the genre I'd say it's indie rock/ art rock. Post Rock is generally caracterized by songs with big build ups and a focus on texture, which to be fair this album has to an extent, but a much better example is what you heard from Swans. Not that any of this matters tho, just nerd shit after all.
It can definitely be put in with post-rock. It’s indie rock primarily but probably post-rock secondarily, the telltale signs being the 1-2 minute instrumental climaxes at the end of pretty much every song and the constantly increasing energy and volume on most songs.
I haven't heard this one but going by the comments in past vids, people love it. Look forward to checking out . Nearly at 10k dude.. Everything Everything - get to heaven or Giles corey will get you there 😬🤟
on the topic of classic early 2000’s indie, check out “Plus, Minus, Equals” by The Velvet Teen. Short, 9 song album with some interesting production and catchy instrumentals/vocals
George clanton put out an amazing 90’s psych pop album this year, filled with lush sound scapes and amazing melodies. I always gotta give a shout out to Parannoul -after the magic
still loving the videos my guy a few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
smags u are absolutely hitting every banger out of the park, i know u get a billion recs but if u dont have NFR or ultraviolence by lana del rey near the top i HIGHLY suggest them i think it would be cool to see a genre ive rarely seen u do.❤

In the spirit of 2000s indie classics, emergency and I by the dismemberment plan is beyond essential!
Just realised PFNO actually dropped in ‘97… only goes to show how ahead of its time it was 🙃

Incredible live!
Doug is a legend man
Their cover of Cortez the Killer they do live is so good
I agree, he had more members when I saw him then the girls he has now though.
Listen to Keep it Like a Secret next. It’s their best album in my opinion.
